To say Claude was tired would be an understatment. He had teaching gigs all day long. Don't get him wrong, he loved what he did. Training Lady and Sir Knights was a dream vocation for him. But he'd been at it all day. Now he was at the river which marked the halfway mark between his last student's home and his. Perhaps a quick dip to clean off wouldn't be such a bad plan. He was, afterall, dirty and sweaty from his classes. The vast majority of his students really had a fervor for learning this stuff, and put up more than a decent fight. In fact, he had a few good bruises and bite marks. He laughed at the memory of the day fondly, proud of every one of his students.
The cool water was like a tonic to him. It washed away sweat and caked on dirt easily as well as the aches from constant movement. He sighed and sunk into the water easily. Maybe not a -quick- dip. Perhaps he'd just sit in the water for a while and relax. Gods knew he deserved it after today. Tomorrow was set to be a great deal slower. Just one class, then a day to himself. He'd like that. Maybe he'd find Istas and take her to the beach. She'd been so upset about his hawk Genevive latley, that she deserved the alone time with him. Maybe he'd just nap... who knew. The point was that he wasn't looking for any great adventure tomorrow.

The black filly had long since lost her blue and black wolf companion, whose sly nature had rubbed off on Kai when she was in her basket. Renji was her best friend, her protector, and almost a father to her, and at the same time, he was the biggest annoyance around. No, you cant go out. Aunt Corine isn't back yet. No, thats not something your mother would do, so no you can't do it. And on and on and on. It drove Kai up the was as both he and Aunt Corine started scowling her and comparing her to her mother.

Her mother.... that stupid, lying, silent, weak, cowardly mare that ran away from her own daughter. Kai hated her, hated her with a passion. One could say she should hate her father too, but she believed he was just with her sister, caring for her. She didn't hate her father at all, seeing as she didn't even know him.

Duskai, though, that was a different story. Kai shook her head and stamped the ground with her hoof. That no-good excuse for a mom probably never even wanted her, no matter was Corine or Danae had said. She glared at the river, glaring at her own reflection and the glowy markings that reminded her she was Duskai's daughter. Her vision seemed to turn water and her reflection was far more distorted than normal. Kai shook her head again, squeezing her eyes shut. She would not cry. She would not cry.

Claude's wings flittered a little at the mare who stomped over to the river. He tilted his head a little as he watched her. It looked as though someone was throwing a temper tantrum. He smiled to himself and waded over to calm her down until her parents found her. It shouldn't be long, parents almost never stray too far from thier foals. He almost didn't see her at first, to be honest. She rather blended in with the night-time air around her. It was the markings that alerted him to her whereabouts and her white mane as well. My, she was an adorable little thing, wasn't she, he remarked to himself. Any parent would be very proud of her. However, this pretty little face was marred with a frown. Now, that certainly wouldn't do.
"Now, what could be troubling such a pretty filly, hmm," he asked softly as he neared her. "It's such a nice night, I can't imagine such turmoil." He put out a wing as an invitation to come closer, maybe have a dip with him. "It's alright, Little One, I won't hurt you. It's strictly against my honor code."

Kai froze, her grey eyes wet and wary of the red winged stallion. She didn't once tremble, but her ears flattened against her skull. Her eyes flicked from his open wing and back to his face. "N-no... I don't need your help! I can get along just fine with out a weirdo like you helping me," she stated, turning away.

And yet... she looked back over at the open wing and a longing filled her to accept the invitation. And he didn't seem like he wanted to hurt her... She kept looking to and from his wing as she inched closer. Maybe... maybe it wouldn't be so bad?

Claude was unaffected by the name. He worked with children, and had been called all manner of things when they didn't want to learn a certain thing, such as flying, or defense. He simply kept his wing open, and his smile kind. "For someone who doesn't want help, you sure look like you could use it. What has someone done to reduce you to such sadness, Little One," he asked softly. He didn't move towards her. It would be better if she came to him. She would trust him more if she accepted his comfort herself. He was in the shallows of the water, it only came up to his knees. Oh, the poor thing. Claude couldn't remember the last time he'd seen a foal so upset. What could have caused this? Anger bubbled in his stomach. It was a child, an innocent child? Who could be so evil? He couldn't fathom the kind of Soquili who could do this. Even Kalona's loved thier children, and this wasn't a Kalona child. She wasn't a Skinwalker child either. She was a regular, Soquili foal, in tears, because some monster hurt her.
"That's it, come on over," he cooed gently, only betraying his happy face with and angry twich of his ear. He truly wanted to help her. Not just because of his Hero Complex, but becasue... he felt that it was necessary. He knew what could happen to foals who grew up in this way. He knew that they could grow callus and angry with everything. If he could show one foal that there is love... then maybe he'd done enough...

Kai was reluctant to speak as she made her way over to him. She tucked herself under his wing and wondered why she felt safe, truly safe. Was this how a parent was supposed to act with their young, winged or not? Kai wasn't sure at all, and this only helped better betray her tears to him. She looked at the water beneath her, and took a small drink.

"I... my mother... sir," was all she said. For a foal who despised everything that had to do with her mother, she was pulling quite a Duskai-eske quietness, even if she didn't know it. Truth be told, she'd find that she had far more in common with her than just markings and blood, if she truly wanted to. And she very much did not want to.

"She... left, sir," added the foal, though one could hardly call that clarification.

Claud curled his wing protectivley under his wing, gently. He mulled over that statement for a bit, before carefully calculating his words. He gently nosed her tears away and placed a small kiss on her fore head. Finally, he weighed each word as she spoke. "I couldn't tell you what the reason for her departure was, Little One... but I can tell you... that it was the biggest mistake of her life." Again, he felt anger biting at his insides with her mother. He knew something was wrong to have reduced a child to such devestation, he just never imagined that she would have left her. to leave a child, one of your own flesh and blood, was disgusting to him. He knew the feeling, having been abandoned before. He, however, had the grace of god on his side and Scarlet found him. This poor thing had no one. "That's alright, just cry Little One, I'm here now, it's alright. Everything feels better when you've had a good cry." He kissed her forehead here and there. Somehow, he felt an overwhelming love for the child, and the need, to protect her.

Kai was torn. She wasn't the type of girl to cry. She screamed, she spat, she fought with all her strength. She played off pain like it was nothing. She couldn't afford to cry. Not when there wouldn't be anyone to comfort her. Even her best friend, the wolf Renji, couldn't comfort her, not like this.

She was quite for a long time, tears fall from her eyes.

She spoke softly, voice cracking, "I'm Kaidus... I didn't say that."

Claude wipped her eyes gently with his wing and smiled gently. "And I am Claude. It's a pleasure to meet such a pleasent and pretty filly." He nudged her cheek gently and whispered, "Kaidus, it's such a shame you haven't a feminine acceptence. Other underestimate that impact of such affections. If you don't mind, I know of a mare who'd be delighted to pose as a sort of mother figure for you. She's my mother, and absolutley adores everyone." Yes, if Kaidus wanted to see Scarlet, then he'd take her to see his mother. But something inside of him wanted her to rely on him. He suspected it was his Hero's Complex, hitting his again, but he knew also, that he needed to have this little filly rely on him, and only him. It wasn't a romanctice feeling, not by a long shot. But more of a paternal, territorial feeling. It was just as his mother had said. When the Gods give you someone to help, you know. He knew that he was going to help this pretty little girl. There was no two ways around it. "Come, let's get out of the river. Somewhere dry. I know a field, positivley over flowing with clover, I think you'll like it."
