I meditate, every night for an hour or two. And I recite a few calming mantras, but I find that it doesn't help that much. I don't have time to meditate before school... is there something you guys do that could help me? By the way, I'm Zen and Tantric 3nodding

I'd suggest exercise. Martial artists I know never seem to be stressed.

I've been training myself for 6 hours of sleep a night, so that I can bed down at 10 and be up at 4:30. What I would suggest you doing is that after you meditate and find a peaceful place of non-attachment, try to carry that mindset with you for the rest of the day. Zen isn't one thing but not another. There is Zen is all things, in all activities. Carry your Zen with you. Buddhism doesn't end when you get up from the mat. It's a lifelong journey and should be part of your life, everyday.

Well, as a stress reliever, I tend to find something out of the Theravadan school useful, Anapanasati or Mindfulness of Breath Meditation and Metta Bhavana or Loving Kindness Meditation (links provided). Whenever I feel stressed out over work, taking long deep breaths and being mindful of its sensations help a lot. On the other hand, when I'm stressed over people, that's when Metta comes in. Just a thought with regards to other forms of Buddhist practices... ^^

I'll practice my Kung Fu and meditate. Other times I'll just play an instrument.

bluewolfcub I'd suggest exercise. Martial artists I know never seem to be stressed. Well part of martial arts can be meditation training, so that can explain why some of us are calm.

I stare at myself in a mirror. I dunno. Try it sometime. See how unpleasant you look when you're angry? Stressed? It doesn't look too good. You can see the results of calming right before your eyes.
But really, meditation and excercise are the best ways to help relieve stress long-termed through the day. It helps you gain control.

I find an intresting one (which seems to be very close to a method in Dzoghen) is to just look at the wall.
It's best if there's some sort of anomaly on the wall (e.g. a spot)
Just stare at it and don't think about anything. It's suprisingly effective (for a short amount of time) Now, if only chanting didn't need to use my brain I'd be set.

Alot of you seem to say meditation or excersise, but all meditation does for me is wake me up, help me concentrate. And when I excersise I don't even think at all. The thing I do to relieve stress is play the violin. 3nodding It's my precious. heart heart heart heart heart heart

Meditate, do pushups, call the guy I love heart , work out, or play the ukulele. Sleeping helps when the stress is from being overworked, but not always when theres something on my mind. biggrin

I simply think about whats good in my life instead of whats bad. Its like if i get yelled at by my parents, then i go in my room, possibly lay down on my bad, and think about whos nice to me, and what i have to look foward to in my life.
