As of July 5th, 2009 at 12:00 AM, I developed an incredibly useful strategy to hunting down those infamous creepy crawlies stalking you in the night.
Now, this method has 2 different scenarios, and a strict set of guidelines that come with them.
As always, human error and bad luck sometimes foil these methods, but if you keep trying you'll eventually get it right.
GUIDELINES
>NEVER run when searching for tarantulas/scorpions.
>Hotkey your net by putting it in the top left corner of your pocket (you can get it quicker by pressing D-Right)
>Keep your net put away until the instructions tell you otherwise.
Hunting
One of the hardest parts of catching a tarantula or a scorpion is often just finding them.
A good strategy would be to walk in a large circle that cover most of your town.
If you happen to stumble upon one without your net out, FREEZE IMMEDIATELY. That means stop moving so that you can calm down from the shock and excitement of finding one.
If the arachnid you've stumbled upon hasn't noticed you yet, you're in luck, and there's an 85% chance that you'll catch it.
If it does run away, refer to the section I'll have on how to handle that a little farther down.
Now, if your creepy crawly hasn't noticed you, move only a few steps at a time as slowly as possible until it's to the south of you.
When its back is facing you, pull out your net and creep up (SLOWLY!) until it's within range of your net. The moment you feel it's within that range, swing your net. If you've done this right, the bug should disappear, you should hear a -bloop-, and your character should hold up your prize and make a pun about it.
-If you've been spotted-
"Oh NO! I've been spotted and it's fleeing!"
Fear not, for all is not lost.
Try to chase you little bug into a northern corner of your town if you can.
If you can get it to the northern corner, move so that it's at the very top of the plane, as far away from you as possible. Now, pull out your net.
When I did this the scorpion I was chasing suddenly calmed down. Now put your net away and refer to the scenario above this.
If you are unable to push your bug up to a corner, simply chase it in the southern direction, and when it's barely visible at the bottom of the screen, pull out your net, stop running, and swing in it's general direction.
These are by far not the most successful methods, but they're more effective that seeing an arachnid, pulling out your net, and swinging it like a bat out of Hell.
If you have other questions or scenarios that you would like clarification on, simply PM me and I'll do my best to assist you.
If you have other effective methods, feel free to post them in this thread.
