Curiosity killed the cat.

He knew that better than anyone, but he had relented to the curiosity he felt. He'd been able to ignore it for long, keeping to himself, watching the mortals and dealing with them from the God's Haven, but there had come a point in time where he'd felt curiosity.

Some mortals cursed their bad luck on him, while others prayed he would change things for the better. What they didn't seem to understand was that they made their own luck. It wasn't luck at all, most of the time; most mortals got what they deserved, be it good or bad accordingly. They did it to themselves. Those that lived obsessed with hurting others eventually died alone and in despair. Those that lived for others had loved ones that lived for them in turn.

He'd watched them from the haven, unsure of what made them tick... unsure of why they did what they did, till curiosity got the best of him. He'd descended down on earth, feeling the grass beneath his paws for what felt like the first time (was it the first time? Really? He couldn't remember...). He watched his intended target; a male that had chosen to kill his mate out of fury when she'd fallen for another lion. The male had woven a web of despair, guilt and anger around him... he was now laying on the ground, unable to eat, far too immersed in his thoughts, guilt and anguish to do much of anything. Samsara was sure his end would soon come; he'd silently cursed the lion to be unable to eat or do anything but think of the mate he'd killed in a rage.

The judge remain nearby, always watching, regarding his target till one day the male had dropped his head on the ground, closed his eyes and given up on life. As soon as the mortal had died, Samsara had turned around and walked away; it was no longer in his paws to do anything. It was no longer in his realm or his job. He was sure his Soul would be tended to by others now.

That in mind, he'd walked the grasslands curiously in his disguised form, his head lowered as he sniffed the flowers silently. What was love, he wondered, and why was it.... it held such power over mortals? What did it mean to love someone?

She was near the border, watching the scouts on patrol and not for the first time wondering what exactly she was doing, what she was GOING to do with her life. Pride life was nice... but so hum drum, so boring after a while, compared to all that there was to see in the world. Something always kept her from moving forward, but curiosity was pushing from the other side. She'd spoken to her father countless times, but there was no getting around the fact.

Kairi was miserably undecided.

If someone, something could just give her some kind of a sign, or if someone might come along to whisk her away to see what else life had to offer. She was afraid to make the journey alone but hadn't found the right person to ask or accompany yet.

Blue eyes scanned the grasslands beyond that invisible marker, the invisible wall marked only by the scent of the pride and faded as one went. How easy or difficult would it be to step past that line, just a little more, then just a little more, then just a little more still?

She lifted a paw to do so, it hesitated a moment, then settled back down with the other four where she sat.

Apparently much harder than she would have thought...

A flash of blue and vibrant green caught her eye al of a sudden, and Kairi stood wondering if the scout had seen-- but they had already moved on along the border. Her whiskers flared along with her nostrils just briefly as she sought a scent, nearly knocked off her paws just by the color overload. She'd rarely seen so much bold blue and green on a lion before!

Whoah, who was THAT?

His gaze had remain on the grass for a long time, fixed on a small lady bug he'd found, so thus he was unaware of his spectator. It wasn't till the insect spread it's wings and plunged up into the sky that the god-in-disguise looked up.

His eyes rested on her, watching her as she watched him. Unfortunately, he soon grew weary of just watching, and the question of whether he should retire back to Haven or pursue his curiosity presented itself in his mind. On one hand... he left now, it meant no wrong could come out of the situation, however, on the other hand, it also meant nothing interesting would happen. Torn between safety and the unknown, he remain standing nonchalantly, watching the female.

Curiosity won out the battle though and with a small click of his tongue over his fangs, as if to chastise his own decision, the god moved forward till he was at a comfortable talking distance from her, "You look lost," he told her; he didn't mean lost as in physically lost, but something about her... told him she was torn and lost in her mind, "Why?" he tilted his head to one side as he regarded her.

He noticed her halfway towards him. She stopped, looking at him with mild curiosity. She couldn't help letting her eyes wander swiftly over his coat, somehow a deeper blue than the sky, but paler than her twin's eye color. Such vibrant colors... he must have an interesting time hunting and stalking. His question shook her from her thoughts, though, and her eyes met his again, thinking briefly over her response. Should she answer truthfully? He was a total stranger to her, but... if she seemed lost... something about him did too.

She blinked, clearly thinking it over, then finally with a flick of her tail she answered.

"Do I? ... I guess? I was trying to decide something, but I can't make up my mind if I should do it or not."

It was an odd question to greet someone with though, but if it made this meeting interesting what was the harm?

It was interesting to note that Samsara... rarely, if ever had to hunt. He rarely found himself with so little energy that he was forced to consume actual food, and thus, his coat never really bothered him all that much. In fact, he thought it was rather dashing, really. He had no idea if he'd inherited it from his father, or mother, as he could remember neither.

Then again... he couldn't remember much of anything at all. His whole memory was a blank slot. All he knew was his job and how to carry out, but no matter how far he searched in his thoughts, there were no recollections of past events. No face, no emotions, no information. Nothing.

"You do," he told her as he paused at a respectable distance. His eyes looked her over, practically into her, but saw nothing in her that seemed to call for his inmediate attention. Her scale was nicely balanced, "Hmmmm.... perhaps you should throw a bone?" he was suggesting she leave the deciding up to Lady Luck herself. Something told him he'd seen her once, but he couldn't recall that either. His memory was a giant lagoon, and frustration showed on his features briefly.

For some reason his confirmation caused a small smile to come to her, unbidden. She shifted on her paws where she sat, feeling his stare and wondering why it felt as if he could see her very soul itself. It was a piercing stare without being harsh at all, at the same time. Throw a bone... she looked amused, since she had been thinking along the same lines.

"I was hoping for some kind of a sign, actually... What about you? You seem lost too. What's on your mind?"

He actually startled at her question and for a moment, he looked as if he weren't all too sure of the answer himself. However, after a moment flew by, he frowned, "Nothing," it was the truth, though something told him that leaving it at that might make the female wonder if he was brushing her off, "Nothing what so ever. At all. It's a big blank, unfortunately. I can not remember much at all. So it remains mostly empty for the most part," a pause followed, his tone of voice had remain polite but flat, but it was gaining a hint of curiosity, or even familiarity (which was odd since she was a stranger - not that Samsara seemed to mind, for everyone he met now a days was a stranger), "Thus, you could say I'm a tad lost myself."

He turned his gaze heavenward, as if searching for whatever sign she might be waiting for, and after a moment, he arched a brow, "What kind of a sign? A divine sign?"

Oh, the irony. It stung.

In the time that he had paused the lioness stood up. She tired of simply sitting in the same spot, suddenly restless, anxious to move. Perhaps she had just found her sign? He couldn't remember? He seemed to remember the basics at least, so that told her something. How to talk, walk, those kinds of things. Had he maybe hit his head somewhere...?

"Well... if you can't recall anything, maybe it's your chance for a fresh start?"

She moved to come closer, trying to figure out even just a little bit of him, but of course if he didn't know himself there wasn't much she could learn right? Or maybe there was. Some of the time it took someone else to see the qualities, good or bad, about you, and she had certainly honed her instinct for reading others.

"A divine sign... a mundane sign... anything would do. I'm trying to decide if I should leave home. I've spent my entire life in this pride with my parents and my siblings, but my friends have both gone off to find adventure. I'd like that for myself.... I think, or just to see other places at least."

Her head tilted as she stopped a little closer to him than he had to her.

"Maybe I'm meant to help you try to remember. You might just be my sign." A toothy grin indicated that she had come to this conclusion even before suggesting it or speaking up.

"Hmmm..." he looked down at her again, as if pondering, then shrugged elegantly, "Perhaps so. But what on earth might be so bad that one needs a fresh start? Ah... it's a conundrum indeed. One which I may never find an answer to," as he spoke, she drew closer, inspecting him, no doubt. Even under disguise Samsara knew he was larger than any lion she'd seen (unless she'd stumbled across another god, of course). In a way, he was certain she was as curious as to what made him tick, as he was to find what made her tick, in turn. After all, he couldn't recall meeting many mortals face to face - simply those few he'd cursed of rewarded.

Alas, he let her approach, for he knew she meant him no harm, and allowed her to inspect him at her leisure, "Anything at all?" he seemed vaguely amused, though why... was up to her interpretation, "You think so?" ah, yes, amused indeed; no sooner did the female grin, that Samsara allowed his grip on his illusion to shatter, his four wings now in plain sight. Something told him he was beyond anyone's help in that particular department, but for whatever reason, he didn't want to burst her bubble.

"People purposely block things from their memory all the time... someone in my family even had a dual personality for a time just to cope with the pain. I hate to sound ominous, but there may be a good reason you cannot remember, in which case, a fresh start is the perfect way to distance yourself from it." Her nose twitched a little as she took a few inquisitive sniffs, curious to no end, not just about his size, but where he'd come from.

Her inspection was paused so that she could slide her eyes back up to his with a cross between a crooked grin and a dry smirk. Before she could answer, however, than-- and it was really very difficult to properly describe this --his image seemed to break. She hopped back in surprise, blinking wide eyes at him with a soft gasp.

"Y... you're..."

She hadn't thought that gods were REAL! She and her childhood friend, Lela, had always joked in theory about their strange wing patterned markings, and her grandmother had always told stories-- but this was certainly not what she had expected to find today. Now she knew this meeting was a sign, a very divine sign.

"I can't believe it... my grandmother was telling the truth, you're real!"

Now, who "you're" referred to wasn't specified, but it could be safely assumed that she meant gods in general and as a whole.

He was quite, quite sure he hadn't blocked things out in his memoery. If he had, he wouldn't have blocked out everything. He would have picked out what to block and what not to block, because quite honestly, it was rather inconvinient to have no idea how others would react. He felt like a newborn in some ways, yet old as the savannah itself in others. It was frustrating, to say the least, "Perhaps you're right. They say there's a reason for everything, don't they. I keep thinking maybe I should seek out those 'they' and ask them myself," it was a small atempt at humour, but he wasn't all too sure she was paying attention now that his wings were happily exposed.

He'd never had a problem with revealing himself as it didn't influence his work. Or... at least he thought he never had a problem with it. He really couldn't be sure, "Samsara," he finished her sentense for her, "I'm Samsara. That... I can indeed remember," a pause as he watched her, dryly amused at her reaction, letting his words sink in, "Karma," he answered an unspoken question that he had no doubt was swirling in her mind, "It's a pleasure to meet you and ... I mean you, particularly, no harm."

A small snort escaped through his nostrils, his amusement apparently showing through the small sound, however, he looked mildly taken back by the fact he'd produced it, "Your grandmother must be rather wise then. Kudos to her."

Kairi had to have a laugh at that, be it the joke, or the unbeleivable suspension of her idea of reality in the situation wasn't clear. She composed herself again gradually though, oh, but if Lela could see her now!

"Oh, I'm sorry, please excuse me. I just think this is too ironic... My name is Kairi, it's a pleasure to meet you, especially since I've never had the pleasure of meeting a god before... Karma, you said? The god of karma?" She believed him when he said he meant her no harm, she could not recall doing anything that would warrant any bad karma anyway. A grin was his answer to the compliment for her grandmother. "She is, she's the storyteller of the pride here, she's been around for a long time. Age does seem to equal wisdom, or at least experience."

This did raise the question though, of how he could have lost his memory? The other question she had came back to mind again. How much was "not much"?

"So you remember your name, and your calling... but not much of anything else? Do you think I can be of some help?"

He'd always known he rather like laughter. He wasn't particularly evil, even if could be vindictive, and preferred leaning towards the brighter spectrum of emotions in life. Thus so, when the female laughed, he nodded his head to himself, as if secretly pleased or accomplished, "Yes, Karma is my domain," he arched a brow at her, "Though you have nothing to fear. I saw nothing in you that needed immediate attention. I came here for a job and... it is already completed," granted, his job had been more on the deathly side.

His eyes narrowed a notch, but they soon recovered their spark and normality when he looked back down at her, "I've always liked story tellers," a pause and he rolled his eyes heavenward again, "At least, I think I always have... I'm not sure," again he shrugged, almost as if he were horribly used to that strange feeling of uncertainty, "Why, yes. I remember my name, my domain, and anything pertaining my role upon this earth, however... others' names, faces, places, and emotions linked to that are horribly shattered. So much so that there's not even a hint of them. In a way it's almost as if I had been reborn just a moon ago. Which would make perfect sense. Except..." he motioned to himself, extending a paw at her, "I am hardly a cub. This body of mine is grown and it takes far more than a couple of moons to grow, does it not?"

After speaking, he took a long moment to look down at her; she was sweet for offering, and still he really didn't want to burst her bubble, but... he couldn't really lead her stray, for it was not in his nature, "Ahh... alas, something tells me... not to fix what ain't broke," his last few words seemed almost stolen from someone else, the accent he used and the broken words not at all like his normal speech, "However, while I don't think it would be wise to recall what I can't recall... some assistance on the world around me would be rather nice. I seem to have forgotten a lot of information. Emotions, mortals. It's a bit embarrassing. Maybe it's a side effect of whatever happened."

"Hmm, good to know I'm not on your most wanted list." She chuckled, finding it interesting that for a god he seemed so easy to talk to. Somehow she had always pictured regal-- and he did appear regal, of course(!) --and aloof beings who would sooner ignore any mortal that they had no business with, rather than hold a random conversation with them, let alone offer advice and share personal problems. This was... nice. She realized that she had missed having a friend to talk to since Lela left. Regarding him again with curiosity, milder this time, she quiped. "No, you're certainly not a cub by any stretch of the word."

It suited her just fine if he needed help in other matters. Should she be so trusting of strangers? Probably not, but for the moment she could not see the harm. He said he meant her no harm and there was a definite lack of evidence to the contrary, so why not? In all honesty the thought to be suspicious of the truth of his words hadn't even crossed her mind!

"Then it's decided!"

Her ears perked up, as did the corners of her muzzle into an almost toothy grin.

"I'll come with you. I can act as your guide to all things mortal"

Never mind that she didn't know much about the lands outside, her uncles had shared their stories, not to mention her mother, and why not take a chance? Can't be afraid to get a little messy if you wanted to live life!

"Hardly," he couldn't help but chuckle - for a girl that had met her first god, she was taking the whole situation in stride, really, and he couldn't help but admire that, for some reason, "If you were, you'd know."

Had he been able to peer into her thoughts, he'd have informed her that different gods acted in different ways (of this he was sure of!) and just like mortals, they all had different personalities. In fact, as far as he was aware, gods had even more... extreme personalities that often time mirrored their domains. You could find a nice, mild mannered god, or you could find a horribly volatile, violent one. He liked to fancy himself one of the nicer ones to talk to.

His ears perked up as she spoke up again. For some odd reason, he hadn't actually entertained the notion of her coming WITH him, "I beg your pardon?" despite his polite question, there was a smile threatening to tug at his maw, "You would come with me?" a pause as mock pondered the notion and then stood to circle her, "Why, my fair lady, I have no clue how you wish to accompany when your wings aren't.... very capable of flying," he reached out with a paw to touch the strange marking, and then turned towards her again, "That aside, wouldn't you wish to talk this over with your family members? Are you really that certain that you would come with me this very instant?" he wasn't refusing her, by a long shot (in fact, he was nw strongly entertaining the notion), however, it was clear he wanted her to be sure of what she was saying, "I'm afraid that if you leave with me, you will be rather far away from your home, posibly for a very long time. Are you still interested, despite knowing this?"

It had, maybe always, been a nice trait of hers that she'd gotten from her father, to be able to take and experience most things with a smile. She was one with a very positive personality, to be sure, something she had come to like about herself and learned to nurture. She'd grown into the lioness she was today by this. She was endlessly curious about him, besides, and whatever she might be able to learn in his company, though her offer was made of a genuine desire to help as well. Her grin only grew at his surprise. "Mmhmm."

He made a good point though. Her eyes followed his paw much like a captivated cub's might, feeling his touch on her side. Very true, her wings weren't real, and thus incapable of giving her any type of advantage of flight, but she wasn't discouraged. She'd follow on foot, try not to be a burden or slow him down.

"If I were to go on my own I would travel just as far, be gone just as long. At least this way I'd be helping someone else as well. My wings may be false, but mortals have their own way of soaring all the same." She gave a little cheeky grin, just a touch sheepish at her own cheesy metaphor. "I promise, I'll keep up!"

He couldn't help but laugh. It was clear he wasn't laughing at her, at least not directly - in fact, it seemed more like he was amused by the situation at hand and her fervent need to overcome it by nay means. She was optimist by nature it seemed, "Oh... oh, oh gosh, I've not laughed in quite a long time, actually," which was true; he couldn't remember the last time he'd had a good laugh. But then again, he couldn't remember much at all, so that was not of much help.

Patting his own stomach, as if in need to calm himself down from his small laughter fit, the god winked, "I don't think you'll have to do that, love. I'll tell you a little secret. We have the ability... to appear in places. In a flash of light, snap," he actually, somehow, beyond all reason, managed to snap his fingers, "Like that, gone and back. We don't always have to fly. Plus, we can take one other with us while we do that. Which might be easier than me flying and you running to catch up," he seemed amused by the mental image, "We could have tried the whole you riding on my back, since you're small enough I can carry you, but teleporting is much, much easier," granted, while teleporting with her, he could only do so for short distance and would actually require rest and food after doing so. Still, if she seemed so convinced that it was her fate to follow him, then so be it.

"It'll be nice, having someone to talk to, for a change. Clouds don't make very good conversation holders, nor do rocks or trees," that said, he began to pad away, pausing after a few strides to see if she was following, "We can walk for now though. The scenery here is quite pleasing, and this way you can say your farewell to the land."

Kairi's only response was to grin at the laughter, liking the sound of it. Such a happy sound, and one that had been abundant in her life, it was only natural that it would remind her of home and family. So long as there would be laughter between them she knew she'd be fine.

Her tail flicked once again, chuckling with him as his laughing finally died down. Her ears perked once more at the mention of teleportation, now THAT sounded absolutely fascinating. How was it possible? She was sure she probably wouldn't understand it any better than he may be able to explain it, so she simply took it as a fact of life. Okay, so gods could be anyplace they wanted within the time it took to snap their toes! Riding on his back, running to keep pace, or just going where they wanted instantly by the power of will and walking in companionable conversation, yeah, that sounded pretty good. "Well it certainly sounds like the most plausible option." She laughed again, bouncing once into a step which evened out a moment later as she began to follow, watching him. "Thank you." She smiled, catching up quickly and now walking alongside him, taking slightly quicker steps to be sure to keep pace without them having to move either too fast or too slow.
