Well, you know it just didn't pop out of nowhere, right? Tell your story!
I sort of started turning into one after watching "Yellow Submarine" in April or March (this year! i'm a baby hippie xDD). I got really into the Beatles and hippieish stuff and all... Then after a bit it died down again and i was normal again.. or so they thought XD
Then this summer my friend introduced me to the MONKEES! heart I dont care what you think, I adore them! And that helped bring it back.. and i got into Janis.. and Grateful Dead.. and lotsa other stuff! >3
Ta da. Here I am. o_o
TELL TELL TELL =D

Well, I suppose it started around this time a year ago. I began taking a lot of classes having to do with environmental issues, metaphysics and world religions. That kind of just started to open my mind and helped me be open to what I really am. I think what sealed the deal was in last June/July (actually, when I joined this guild xd ) when I was volunteering for the Dreamtime festival. I was around a lot of "hippy" type folks and I just loved the atmosphere. So when I came back everyone was calling me a "hippy."
Although, I really have always been into things like inspirational music, respect, unity and nature. It's just been a side of me I've, in the past, been more prone to hide from others.
And so the story goes. Awesome thread xp

One day when i was watching T.V and i was pondering. Im like you know what, todays world really sucks, all people want is women to be whores, promoting violence, promoting all this jewlery that kids in Africa are slaving over. And it got to me, So im like s**t, pulled up my pants, grew my hair long, and express my views 2 everyone. And music wise i only listen to 60s and 70s music now. Joplin, Hendrix, Zeppelin(huge fan of Zeppelin) , Scott McKenzie(just the San Fransisco one) The Lovin Spoonfull. I like blues also but it doesnt really fit in to my hippy side of music, Like BB King, im huge on Robert Johnson, Muddy Water of course, and why not Buddy Guy!

I was raised on the Beatles, and I'm into other hippie music. I make candles for a hobby (my uncle used to do it for a living..he lived in a big hippie commune thing. He's my hero.), I've always been a nature freak (and a freak of nature..) I'm really liberal, and I've even used the phrase "Give peace a chance." So I guess, I've always been somewhat of a hippie, but lately I've been.. embracing it.

i was raised to love nature and animals. like for instance i can't watch those shows on animal planet like animal cops and the vet ones where the animals get really sick. i don't care as much about what humans do to each other as much as i care about what humans do to animals....i mean don't get me wrong.....it would be great for people to get along but people can help themselves (hopefully) but animals and nature can't. they need to be protected and cared for. you know what i'm saying?

I never really had a defining moment where I decided that I was going to be a hippie. I don't really think of myself as a hippie by definition, either. I just sort of be and I am, you know? I don't really favor the typical hippie things over any of the other "genre" things like I like, I just like them and lump them all into one big catagory of "things that I like". I never really discovered 60's or 70's music because that's what my mom sang and that's just what was around, along with other kinds of music at any given time; classical, 80's, rock, alternative, metal, etc. I've always been sort of a pascificst. I hate it when people fight and when they do when I'm there I'm always trying to find solutions that benefit everyone and trying to calm down the fire. I try to not get pulled in to verbal fights. Peace is just better than getting angry, you know? My mom's always burned incense and candles, so I just grew up loving them. My favorite incense is patchouli, on the basis that my mom burned two prominant kinds: patchouli and vanilla, and vanilla got old. Vanilla's a great smell and all, but it was in everything from incense to candles to air fresheners, ect, and it became not that "Mmmm, vanilla" smell but that neutral, everyday expected smell. But it's got to be good patchouli smells, because sometimes some sticks are too strong. So yeah. . . I never really had a defining moment. It's just been there and I continue to like the things that I've liked. (: ~<3

I guess becoming a hippie was partly based on my mom's influence. confused (she's a hippie) But I didn't really turn into a hippie untill I listened to Jimi Hendrix, I think it was two years ago? He music was mind-blowing to me; and because of him is how I became what I am. (including learning how to play guitar)

I see "hippie" as a state of mind, the way you live your life, and that affects your beliefs and actions. Ever since I can remember I've loved peace and respected life. Music I didn't discover 'till I was in pre-teen years. It sure affected that period in my life, but it did not determine what I became. I allways knew about hippies and thought that they were cool, but never considered myself one. Not until I was doing a retrospective of my beig and realized, "I'm what people stereotipe as a hippie." So I'm cool with that.

How did I become a hippie? hmm... actually, that's a good question. It has to be a mostly because of aspects of my upbringing. My dad was (and still is) a hippie, so I was exposed to people my mother would have told me to avoid talking to. Also, I was raised in the Owens Valley, so I got a lot of exposure to mother earth. big, ol' mountains in my nick of the woods. So yeah, I ended up believing in 'peace and love' and it was all groovy from there.

well one night i looked up a whole bunch of beatles music(dont ask why). the next day i listened more. i got into the beatles(btw im listening to them now). i always thought of hippies as dumb a** retards. later i got into the peace sign. i want peace. but when i really got into it is when my mom got a 60's cd. i fell in luv with the music. i started and am currently reading about eastern religions outside of school. i luv my long hair. i think the only thing i kill is spiders(sry guys) but i apologize afterwards. i even avoid grass when walking to different classes. i want to be a naturalist and study mushrooms for a carreer. i want a VW bus and am gettting one. and i want to live in san francisco on the beach and wear flowers in my hair(lol biggrin ) oh and bush sucks, too much racism and violence, and animal abuse. im remodeling my room with lava lamps and black lights and black light posters. when im done its ganna be awsome.oh and beatles rule!
