LECTURE TIME.
When making a simfile there is one thing you want to keep in mind. Actually, a lot of things but the main one should be making the file FUN. Who the hell wants to play a file that isn't fun at all and makes you want to just quit right there but you're interested to see what you're score is going to be and that's the only reason you continue to play? I've ran into many of those files and sadly, some of my own cause me to do this, but I'm starting to understand the importance of the fun factor in simfiles. If you would like an example of fun files, Toph. TOPH MAKES THE BEST SIMFILES IN EXISTENCE PERIOD NO QUESTIONS CLASS DISMISSED GOODBYE GET THE ******** OUT IF YOU DON'T LIKE TOPH BECAUSE HE IS YOUR MASTER. He really really takes every song to the next extreme. He can take a laid back song and make it so fun that you have to play it again back to back to back and you don't even realize you're playing the same sim.
Another thing to keep in mind is patterns. Please please please make your patterns flow right. If you don't make your patterns flow right, indexers will trip up and spread players will hate you for forever and ever and ever because flow is another key part in making the sim fun. Emerald Sword has a real good flow but if you want a faster flow, I guess HST's Vertex Beta is a good example of one. Vertex Alpha is pretty much just like Emerald Sword except Emerald Sword has little breaks inbetween and Alpha.. well.. doesn't. Try not to staircase so much either (left down up right; right down up left). It's okay to do it form time to time. A good time to do it is when you've run out of other patterns. Also, try not to do left down and right down too much because spread players HATE that.
Yet another thing you need to get right is the GAP and BPM. The Gap is the hardest to obtain if you're just guessing, but it isn't extremely over the top difficult to find. BPM is mega easy because of all the BPM analyzers out there, but they're not always right. The songs I choose to do are on, however.
Just keep these things in mind, download some Toph files, and you win.
