vision of a dying embrace•

A soft moan escaped Evelyn’s soft lips as she squirmed in her chair. After finishing her meal, she and Triumph had both decided to take a nap before running off to battle. Evelyn was still seated at the table; her head rested on its cool surface while her arms curled around her head. Triumph, on the other hand, had been asleep on the floor not far from her until her had woken up. The house was empty except for them, and Triumph worried that they might have slept too much. They had to join up with the others, but Evelyn wasn’t waking up from his nudges. That was when the creature got the idea to start licking her…

With a start, Evelyn awoke and tumbled to the floor breathing heavily. “You… dirty dog,” she mumbled as she tried to calm her racing pulse. Curses fell like water as she stood up and slapped her blushing face. It was disgusting, they were about to go into battle, yet Triumph had decided to lick her in sexually explicated places. She shuddered in remembrance of the moment that occurred not even a minute ago. Triumph whined in response to her curses, but Evelyn made no further motion to address the dog as she made her way down the stairs and to the door.

“It’s locked…” she mumbled when the pair had reached the door, only to find it had closed behind whoever had last gone through it. More crushes fell from her lips as she pounded on the door before turning on her heel and walking back up the stairs. There was no other option now; they were forced to get to the battle field on their own. Before leaving, Evelyn walked over to Teifi’s body, which Triumph had placed on the couch before falling asleep. “Mommy, I’m going out now… D-don’t worry, I’ll avenge you a-and…” Her voice cracked as she spoke, and she had to choke back tears. “We’ll we together again one day… I love you, Teifi… You’re my one and only mother.” Evelyn leaned close to Teifi as her lips brushed the woman’s soft, cold cheek. She hugged the body once before parting from her and going to Triumph’s side. “G-goodbye…”

A shiver traveled down her spine as the pair stepped outside. It was time to depart for battle once more, and Evelyn found herself overcome with excitement. “Chizakura,” she cooed softly as she hugged her beloved tome. It was a tome all her own; she had made it; written it all by herself, and not a single soul had ever used it besides her. A sick smile spread across her face as her hand ran along the tome’s bloodied spine. “Triumph… I…” The Gwyllgi shook his three heads as he cut her off and curled his tail around her body before placing him on his back. “Yes, Triumph… Let’s ride!”

Her heels pressed into the monster’s side roughly as Triumph took off running with blinding speed. The battle field was far though, and to conserve energy, Triumph slowed his speed once they made their way out of the forest and raced along an open field. His tail twitched violently as he ran, making sure to keep close to the ground to avoid causing too much air resistance. The air carried the smell of battle; blood and carnage. The smell excited Triumph as her continued to run. The battle field wasn’t far from them now.

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!"
"The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!"

They had left the castle posthaste and made great speed toward the north camp sight. The defenses were being taken care of, and it's not like the citizens could get passed the guard and the watch. The members of FEF needed help more. And a serious pack of help was on the way.

From the direction of Eyris, a brigade of wyvern riders being led by a huge black wyvern and a relatively small white one appeared in the skies over a field, not too far from the battle. The menacing captain of the brigade sniffed the air deeply. "Ahhh, it's been a while since I've smelt the true smell of battle. I can hear the cries coming from the north. It calls out to me! Umbriel's appetite has never been this big before! Hahaha! The time for bloodshed is approaching." She turned to her subordinate, who was also carrying Sophia with her. "We're increasing speed! Don't fall behind!"

Mihira nodded to her captain, and gave the motion to the other wyvern riders, and then boosted her speed as well. "Hold on, madam crew." she said, speaking to Sophia. She looked down, upon the land. It was the same as where that first battle had been, that she had witnessed. Oh, and there was even the same... uh oh. "W-wait! There's a person below, riding some beast! I... I recognize it! It's the one who was able to control those beasts who were attacking the FEF members! Captain!" Mihira looked up, wide-eyes at Vaida.

In response to Mihira's cry, Vaida looked down at the ground. She did, in fact, see what seemed to perhaps be a woman riding a strange beast. Monsters around these parts could only mean two things. And this was a person, not a Loki-douche. It could only be one of those so-called heroes. "Well, well, lucky us! Castle Guard! Pursue that b***h! Capture her at all costs!" Vaida jerked her wyvern down, and drew her spear, soaring down toward the one riding the beast. Tori giggled and squealed, as if it were a fun ride. That type of monster was fast, but fliers had just a bit more speed. She was much more faster than the rest of her brigade, as well. Her face grew near psychotic, feeling the anticipation of battle. She cried out, as she got within hearing distance of the beast rider. "LET'S SEE HOW WELL YOUR BLOOD SPILLS!"

“Ah, y-yes,” Sophia managed to choke as the wind beat against her face. This was the first time she had ever ridden on a wyvern, so it was reasonable that she was at least a little nervous. The crew member was doing her best not to be as her stomach did flips from the strange unnatural feeling flying brought. Maybe she was just wasn’t cut out for this thing, she had never even ridden a horse before. She was glad she was riding with someone else though, or she would surely plummet to her death.

The ground that was far below was a courage killing sight though, and Sophia held on tighter lest she fall. She only had one tome with her, as they had left in haste and she hadn’t the time to grab much else. It was the dark tome, Luna, which she was prepared to use on her foes without mercy. That was exactly what she did when she heard Vaida’s shouts and they got within attacking range on the enemy. “Luna!” Please hit, she wished as she unleashed the spell, hoping to use it to stall the enemy while Vaida landed a blow.

Triumph reared up on his hind legs as a new smell pierced the air, as did a loud strong voice. He fell back to the ground with a thump as Evelyn whipped her tome out. Fliers, she hated them. They always seemed to be just out of striking distance of her magic as they took their time whittling her health away. They were fast too, it was a speed Evelyn feared, for it matched and even sometimes beat the speed of her own mount. Usually she didn’t have to worry about them thanks to Castello, but the Raven was with the others and thus she was stuck facing these new foes alone.

The odds were not in her favor, as she was greatly out numbered and she would easily be overpowered if she didn’t add to her own numbers. “Rise from the depths of despair!” Evelyn shouted as passed a hand over Chizakura’s glowing pages. In response to her call, the shadow below Triumph grew and spread across the field before it started gathering in select spaces. From the shadows Gargoyles rose, ready to take on the threat of the flying units and buy Evelyn some time. Already some of them vanished as the Luna spell descended upon her, ripping away a chunk of her strength.

She wobbled on Triumph’s seat as her hand passed over Chizakura’s pages once more. “Triumph, try to dodge,” Evelyn hissed as she felt the creature’s muscles ripple beneath her legs. The wyvern lord was fast, so damage was unavoidable, but she would be able to avoid a death blow this time around. “Chizakura.” The tome’s name was whispered, but the tome responded none the less as petals began to appear in the air around her. The petals shot towards the wyvern’s aiming to do them some harm or reduce their numbers.

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!"
"The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!"

Vaida flung passed the beast rider, grazing both the girl and the monster's sides lightly with two of the three points of her spear. The beast was fast, as was the girl, to react so suddenly. She would be plenty fun!

Tori, seeing a new toy in the sky reacted by shooting fire from her mouth at one of the gargoyles. She cheered in delight, as it hit, and fried the monster, as it fell to the ground.

"Evasive action! Stay clear of the petals!" Mihira jerked her wyvern, and spun around, just barely avoiding the dark soaring petals. Unfortunately, one of the others wasn't quick enough, and fell from the sky, as the wyvern was done in by the attack. "Hold tight, ma'am!" Mihira called out to Sophia, as they spun in the air. Coming out of the spin, a gargoyle was awaiting them. Mihira quickly drew her lance from the side of her ride, and slashed through the monster, as she rushed passed it. "Take out the beasts! we'll support the captain by dwindling their numbers!"

Elsewhere, Vaida had swung around swiftly, as was soaring back toward Evelyn from the back. "Come on, I'm know you're faster than this! LET'S STEP IT UP! SATISFY MY THIRST!" Perhaps she was enjoying this a little too much, seeing as her soldiers were dying, but she couldn't help it. Besides, she rider would be her opponent in any situation anyway. Vaida just hoped the legends held their truth about the beast mistress' power.

Sophia didn’t have to be told twice to hold on tight. Heck, one had to wonder if it was possible to hold on any tighter, as Sophia was literally holding on for dear life. She had expected many things for this flight, but not a battle during it. It was bad enough to have to be flown to the battle field, but to have a battle mid flight was not something she wanted to experience. Experience it she would though.

Her stomach did another flip as Mihira’s mount did a spin in the air. Luckily for her she had managed to not get dizzy from the very unnatural action, not to say she enjoyed it though. “Luna,” she called once more shortly after Mihira cleaved a gargoyle sending it falling to the ground. Before it impacted, it simply vanished though, for it was merely a creature of shadow. Her attack smashed into another of the monsters also sending it to its death as a single thought floated in her mind. Glad that isn’t me…

Evelyn dipped forward as Triumph’s legs nearly buckled beneath him. The woman was powerful to have injured the tough hide of Triumph, and she was fast to even be able to scratch him. A terrible foe; there was no doubt. Her best bet at dealing with the woman wasn’t an option she had. Evelyn’s strangest attack, was a summoning; the summoning of a basilisk. Such an action left her much too vulnerable though, due to the complete summoning it took many minutes to just set up the magic in preparation for the summon, and many more minutes just for the creature to rise up. Evelyn didn’t have that kind of time, and if she decided to risk it, she had no doubt she would quickly meet her end.

“Chizakura,” the Beastmistress growled once more as more petals were summoned, this time aiming towards the Wyvern Lord, rather than blindly targeting whoever was in their range. Her heels were digging into her mount’s sides, both to keep her atop the creature and to order him to move quickly. Staying still wasn’t a luxury she had like the battle of before. Moving was necessary, not doing so was but a death wish for it turned her into a sitting duck.

The petals not only targeted the woman and her wyvern, but they also started to ascend into the sky. As the petals gathered they created large, black clouds that blocked out the sunlight, casting the area into shadowy darkness. Some sunlight manages to ebb through the clouds though, for it was not yet night, leaving the area hard to see in, but not pitch black. Again the time restraint though, so instead of repeating what she had done at the last battle, she allowed the clouds to remain rolling in the sky as they crackled with electricity instead of falling down and poisoning her foes. Lowered visibility was a weapon she would take advantage of.

"The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!"

"Yes! YES! Show me your power! Hahaha!" Vaida cried out, as the sky began to darken. Visibility was becoming a luxury very fast. The skies boomed with thunder and lightning sparked along with it. It was perfect! A beautiful setting! Of course, Vaida didn't really need to see where she was going. Not for a certain move she hadn't publicly used before. "Can you hear me in hell, Nergal?! Time for you to see just how powerful this weapon you made for me is!!"

With that, the wyvern lord swung out her spear to the side, and then swung it mightily in front of her, releasing a powerful wave force of dark magic. The petals crashed into the wave, but were pushed back and defeated against the wave's currently greater force. After it got passed the petals, it soared straight for the beast rider. "You were a disgusting being, old man, but you got me one hell of a weapon. A weapon that grows in strength and power as I do. Brilliant." She continued on, full speed, ready to slash her prey. Umbriel cried out in desperation of a meal.

Mihira continued to sharply evade and counter the enemy gargoyles. If there was one thing she was good at, it was being fast. In Bern, she was one of the fastest on her squad, and that didn't change when she came here. It didn't matter is she wasn't as tough as others, she was still good. But apparently, not good enough.

Out of nowhere, a gargoyle swiped its spear across her side, causing her to lose her balance. She countered as quickly as she could, and it seemed that she was able to cripple the beast's wing, forcing it to fall. However, her wyvern reacted to its rider's actions, and jerked suddenly, causing the grip on Sophia's grasp to come undone, knocking her off. Mihira gasped, and darted after the girl. "N-no! Madam crew!" Mihira stretch out far, and flung out her hand. "... ...Reach; Take my hand!!" The ground; the portal to death, approached nearer every second. "HURRY!!"

“Blast.” Evelyn could do nothing but helplessly watch as her petals lost the contest of power. She hadn’t expected the woman to have such a skill up her sleeve, and she had to curse the fact that her petals would never be a match for it the way they were. Why was it all so oddly reminiscent of a time far in the past? The memory was blurred though and she could only remember what she did to get out of the situation. It was an annoying move to perform, and she had only ever done it thrice, but rather than trying to dodge or counter the wave with magic it was obviously the better choice.

Quickly, she raised her arm and pointed to the fast approaching wave. The air around her seemed to shudder as Evelyn’s eyes drooped closed and she parted her mouth to speak. “Shatter,” she said softly, almost mouthing the word. Not a second later, the wave sliced though her; splitting her body in two. It was as the wave sliced through her, her body and Triumph’s dissolved into thousands of petals. The shimmer purple and pink petals hovered and swirled in the air a moment before fading into a bold red color. The red petals melted as they fell to the earth in the form of blood, forming a puddle of the substance on the ground. The unnaturally red puddle formed a startling contrast against the green grass as it started to seep into the ground. Before the earth could fully absorb the blood though, it simply blinked out of existence.

Faith… Faith… no… you changed your name… you’re known as Evelyn now. Listen to me. I must speak with you… Do you know why your family hated you? It’s my fault. I made you. Your family displeased me, so I cursed them so that they gave birth to you. They feared you, and they had good reason to. Did you know you were the reason your mother died? I’m sorry, but I’ll make it up to you. Take my hand. If you come with me, I’ll give you a second chance at life and a new family. All I ask in return is that you help serve me and defeat the dark god. Your only other option is death. Those villagers, they’re coming to kill you because your nameless tome destroyed their village. Here, I’ll name it for you if you come with me. It shall be called… Chizakura.

Evelyn’s eyes shot open as her body and Triumph’s materialized far to the right of where Vaida was. Blood was rolling down Triumph’s hide, but it was quickly dissolving into nothing. The technique she had used was one similar to transportation, in which when attacked her body would dissolve into petals before becoming blood that would seep into the earth. The blood would then travel though the ground and bubble up else where before the process reversed itself and Evelyn appeared in the new area unharmed. Though extremely useful, it was not a skill that could be used often due to the intense pressure it put on Evelyn’s mind.

You want to know who I am? You should know me, after all the studying you did on monsters. Don’t worry, I shall tell you, my child. I am… the goddess of the moon, the child of mischief, and the guardian of monsters. I am known as…

A single petal appeared near Evelyn as she held out her hand for the small fluttering object. Instead of landing on her palm though, the magical creation sliced her hand before winking out of existence. “Chizakura, live up to your name… you are...” Blood splattered to the ground as Evelyn flicked her wrist to open her tome to a certain page before pressing her hand to it firmly. The tome started to glow a deep red as Evelyn’s blood was devoured by the tome instead of marring its pages. “Bloody Cherry Blossoms!” A strong gust of wind blew in the field, sending any remaining animals in the area scurrying; as suddenly as it came though it vanished. In response to her call, more cherry blossom petals were summoned, but this time they were larger, much larger, ranging in size from a man’s hand to the size of a large dog. They were also red, unlike their pinkish purple predecessors. Like before they were intensely sharp, but due to their size they weren’t as fast as the smaller ones. On her command, they started to recklessly shoot towards Vaida.

Crimson; the color of blood.

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!"
"The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!"

Vaida growled, when the girl vanished. "Damn it! where'd she go?!" Vaida kept going, looking around for some trace of the beast mistress. Suddenly, she heard the woman speak far right of where she was. "WHAT THE HELL?!" Vaida shot around and rushed at the woman. However, she didn't make it in time to stop her from casting her spell. Many huge blossoms suddenly shot up from seemingly out of nowhere. They were huge, but slow. They wouldn't be much of a- They started going after Vaida. "DAMN IT TO HELL!"

One of the blossoms soared by Vaida, forcing her to jerk suddenly to a new course. Tori held tight, but still slid a little as they turned. Vaida roared with fury as she increased her speed as much as she could. These petals were actually a good match for her. Given Umbriel's huge size, speed wasn't her best trait, though she was still pretty fast. The wyvern lord spun around several large petals as they came at her, slicing them with her spear, as they went by. The petals seemed to be following her. That gave her an idea.

She soared straight up, and got very high. a petal sliced one of her arms, as they arose, but Vaida ignored it. When she got as high as she wanted to, she then darted to the side and then straight down again. She suddenly stopped in mid air and stood up on Umbriel's back. She looked up and saw that the petals were coming down upon her quickly. Perfect. She swung her spear into the air and started to spin it wildly. She roared out, and dark power then shot out at the petals, causing some to halt, some to crash, and others to dissolve.

However, there were too many, and their combined force was crucial. Vaida growled, as her footing began to weaken under the petal's might. "T-Tori..!" Tori then jumped up and fired a powerful elfire spell from her mouth with traveled up and combined with the spear's dark magic. It was as if the dark magic acted like gasoline for the fire's growth and power. The flames covered the petals and scorched them all, making them crash down to the earth.

Vaida knelt down, and breathed heavily. "Good girl.." she finally was able to say. Vaida then got back to the reins and flew for the woman once more. They had both used a lot of their strength, but the fight wasn't over yet. "I'll slay you yet, you witch!!"

Sophia’s head was spinning, even literally at times as she did her best to hold on. It was difficult, but she tried to help Mihira out by casting magic whenever the opportunity presented itself. They were keeping strong, making good progress with cutting down the enemy’s forces. It was looking good on their side once again… despite the worsening weather. It had been so clear and easy to see, but now the battlefield was cast in shadow making locating targets a bit more troublesome.

Vaida and Evelyn seemed to be having no trouble with the strange weather though. Sophia had turned her attention to their battle for just a split second before the Luna tome suddenly slipped from her fingers. Ah, no! In a desperate attempt to retrieve the falling weapon, she leaned over slightly, just barely managing to snatch up the weapon before it plummeted to the ground below.

Just as she was about to breath a sigh of relief, Mihira’s wyvern had suddenly jerked before she had time to regain her balance. With a cry, she slipped off the animal. T-the ground! The ground was coming closer and closer, with startling speed as she fell, sending waves of panic through Sophia. She heard Mihira’s voice, and instantly reacted by reaching her hand out to grab the wyvern rider’s own. It didn’t matter if Luna fell anymore; what good was a weapon to a dead person?!

Evelyn balled her hands into fists before sending her right one crashing into one of Triumph’s heads. “Stupid, Crimson!” The Gwyllgi yelped in surprise as it reared up on its hind legs before crashing down to the ground and running around in circles like a chicken with its head cut off. She hadn’t meant to let her rage get the best of her, and now she really wish she hadn’t. It was like a roller coaster ride being on the startled monster, and this running around sure wasn’t going to help her win the battle. If anything, it would help her bring about her own end.

“No, no, no, Triumph, stop!” At the sound of the word stop the Gwyllgi suddenly did as commanded nearly sending Evelyn face planting into the creature’s neck. It was just in time too, for up in the sky she heard Vaida shout at her sending her throbbing head into a spasm. Evelyn jolted her head up to notice the woman approaching fast after rendering her latest attack useless. Did she have any hope of defeating this woman? No, there wasn’t time for such trivial thoughts. Teifi was dead, and Evelyn had to avenge her. This woman was in her way and she had to defeat her in order to avenge Teifi. Failure wasn’t an option. You’ve always been a failure, you abomination! You’re useless!

The air around Evelyn suddenly felt heavy against her body as she blankly stared at the space in front of her. In front of her and Triumph, was Teifi, fully healed with her usual warm smile on her face. Teifi was dead though, but such a thought didn’t occur to Evelyn’s mind as she stared at the apparition in front of her. “Tei—“ Stay away from me! I hate you! Evelyn flinched in response to Teifi’s words; they weren’t words Teifi had ever said, but rather they were the words of her birth mother said in Teifi’s voice. You are not my child! You’re nothing but a curse, a burden on this family! We never wanted you! Go away! Just go away and die! Evelyn’s breath hitched in her throat as she stared unmoving at what appeared to be Teifi. What she thought was Teifi though, existed no where except in her mind; she was hallucinating.

Next to Teifi, Kyros appeared and began to speak the words Evelyn’s birth father had told her before she ran away from home. You’re disgusting. You’ve put us through so much, and we’ve done everything we can for you yet you only ever continue to bring us pain. Our family was perfect, until you came along. You ruined everything! Tears stung the Evelyn’s eyes as she brought her hands to her ears and tried to block out the voices. More of the heroes appeared; first it was the rest of the men, speaking all in their own voices, yet with the words of her bothers. Why don’t you just leave? You should have known all along we never wanted you. Why do you think we always sent you away during the day to work and even went as far as to lock you out of the house sometimes? Misura and Jyoti appeared and spoke the words of her dead brothers’ fiancés. They only reason you were never killed was because we didn’t want to anger the goddess. Ugh, it’s so painful looking at you. You look so weird. Go die.

“No… s-stop…” The words got stuck in her throat as she could do nothing but stare at the Heroes; the people she had seen as her family. Suddenly the eight Heroes vanished and the goddess Crimson appeared before Evelyn’s eyes alone as she sobbed pathetically. Crimson appeared as a young child of four with long white hair and unnatural red eyes. As always, she wore a happy cheerful smile that masked her mischievous nature. I warned you, I warned you, but you failed me and now you shall pay! Your voice, I shall steal it away! Lucky day, lucky day! Before Evelyn could even so much as protest, the apparition only visible to her vanished and she was once again staring at nothing but air.

Vaida was still fast approaching, she had to hurry, she had to strike the woman down and go to the aid of the others to help them avenge Teifi. She flinched at the thought of the woman, remembering the hallucination that had just played before her tired eyes. Quickly, she shook her head and turned to Chizakura as the Heroes taunted her in her mind. Her mouth opened to say the tome’s name and unleash its power, but no words came out of her mouth. Once more she tried and it ended in failure. That was when she remembered that the name of the tome was not a name she had given it, but rather a name Crimson had. It was for that reason, that the goddess had been able to seal her voice away, so that she may never speak the name of her tome again.

Evelyn violently sobbed as she let her arms fall limp at her sides. Chizakura slipped from her fingers and landed on the ground with a thud, but she made no move to retrieve it. Abandonment; she was not loved. Betrayal; everyone had left her. The goddess that had sent her to this world, the heroes, and her birth family, none of them loved her, none of them cared about her; they all just wanted her to die. Her gaze turned skyward once again to see Vaida was almost upon her. She was going to die, she could feel it. No longer did she have the will to battle or the will to live. Evelyn was a child that should not exist; she should not be alive. A smile spread across her lips as she looked up at the woman Vaida who was now preparing to strike her. Everyone wanted her dead, so she would grant their wish. She could not speak, but her lips formed words…

‘Kill me.’

Mihira darted downward. There wasn't much time. She lunged out, and touched Sophia's fingers, but missed. She had to keep trying! After retaining her grip to her wyvern, she reached down again. She brushed the shaman's hand a couple times, then was able to get her hand down by the girl's wrist. Mihira immediately grabbed her strongly, and pulled the reigns on her wyvern, to slowly and safely stabilize. When they had halted their movement, Mihira directed her wyvern to slowly descend to the ground, where Sophia was let down gently, and most of all, safely. "...F-forgive me!" Tears started in her eyes. "I... I didn't mean to... it's my fault!" She dismounted and fell to her knees before Sophia. "Please punish me!" She lowered her head in shame. Above them, the remaining wyvern brigade had just about finished off the gargoyles, though there were still a few of them left. "II'm so.. s-sorry... " Wet marks hit the ground, beneath her lowered head.

Vaida raced onward. Her roar was fierce, and her eyes displayed a rage close to insanity. As she got closer, all sound began to fade. Soon, it was entirely silent. Though she continued to roar, and the sky quake with thunder and all around the sound of fighting, it suddenly vanished.

Vaida leaped from Umbriel and began charging forward on foot. Her mighty spear sailed beside her every step. As if in slow motion, the wyvern lord charge and came only yards apart from the beast rider. Vaida arrived within attacking distance and crouched underneath Evelyn.

Vaida's voice suddenly rang clear. "Enjoy the afterlife, b***h!" She then launched upward, and jabbed the mighty spear right through Evelyn's throat, clean through to the other side. She pulled her spear back, the blood dripping to the ground, and allowed the girl to fall from her mount. This was no trick... she was dead. And Umbriel was waiting behind the mount, just waiting for her master to allow her to have the tasty treat. "Eat up, Umbriel. This battle's over." She propped her spear upon her back, flinging more of the blood off of it. Umbriel then let out a roar, and commenced its feast.

"Damn good fight. ...damn good."

Sometimes I wonder why they need me at all!

… For this, a tragic journey•
… A
vision of a dying embrace•

Triumph was panicking, his master wasn’t giving him orders, she wasn’t casting magic; she wasn’t doing anything at all! His tail twitched rapidly bashing against the ground, carving fissures into the soft earth. It didn’t matter; it was still his job to protect the girl. He was about to move, to dodge the oncoming attack, when Evelyn placed her hands on his back and he was overcome with calm. Using the last bit of her magic, she had sent it into Triumph’s body linking their consciences for but a moment. In Triumph’s mind’s eye, he saw Evelyn; it was not the Evelyn of the present though, but rather of the past, the Evelyn from when he first met the young girl.

”Hey there, puppy,” the young Evelyn cooed as she seemed to touch and hug Triumph’s middle head. Her expression was softer than the Evelyn of today, but she was overall the same. Her eyes though, held great sadness, and even when she smiled her eyes did not display the same joyful emotion. “Do you remember the day I died? You promised me something. Can you tell me about it?” The young Evelyn faded into dust as a memory from the past transferred between the two.

A lush green field stretched out in front of the pair as they observed the past as but ghostly figures, mere spectators to events that had already occurred. Behind them lay a young forest, and far off into the distance there was a single pecan tree. ”Time such a cruel mistress. It has its irony, doesn’t it? To think we battled on the same field I died on 500 years ago,” the ghostly Evelyn, that was her conscience given form, said as she pointed to two lone figures in the middle of the field. “Do you remember? You were the one that killed me. Loki, the dark god, made it happen. He possessed you to kill me.”

The two figures on the field were the Evelyn and Triumph of 500 years ago. Evelyn had her head bowed in defeat as an angry Triumph growled menacingly at her. Chizakura lay abandoned on the ground a mere 5 yards away. Evelyn’s head rose and she made eye contact with Triumph. A smile spread across her face, it was a real smile, one that even showed in her eyes. The Triumph of the past seemed to flinch as it tried to resist Loki’s call, but in the end the pull of magic was too strong to resist and he lunged forward toward Evelyn.

The distance of 30 feet was covered in a single bound and Triumph landed square in front of Evelyn. She did not flinch though, only continued to smile as the monster that was her mount using the middles head bit into her neck; easily snapping the bone and crushing her air way. Blood erupted from her mouth as Triumph released his hold on her neck and her now lifeless body fell to the ground. Her eyes remained open even in death as her blood oozed into the ground. As Triumph stared at the girl’s lifeless form, control was returned to him and Loki’s presence in the area vanished; bound for other parts.

The Gwyllgi whimpered as he stared at his fallen master. He couldn’t remember what had just happened, but he didn’t need his memory to tell him the answer. The taste in his mouth, it was Evelyn’s blood; the wounds on her neck, they were from his teeth. It was obvious who the culprit was and the information sickened him. Defeated, the monster crawled to Evelyn’s side to lie down next to her lifeless form. This had to be a dream, some horrible nightmare. It was no dream though, and as reality sunk in Triumph found himself alone in the world. ”Evelyn… wake me up, I’m living a nightmare…” Evelyn’s corpse gave him no response as Triumph let him eyes close for a moment. ”Evelyn… I… will not die; I’ll wait here for you…” The monster’s tail curled around the lifeless body, bringing it closer to him. ”I feel alive, when you’re beside me…” The warmth from Evelyn’s body was fading away quickly as her blood continued to pore out from her neck. ”I promise you… I will not die… I’ll wait here for you…”

The scene from the past faded and the two ghostly forms were left alone in a world of darkness. “Triumph, thank you for keeping your promise,” Evelyn said softly. Tears streaked her face, as they were doing back in reality. ”Now… won’t you come with me… I don’t want to die alone… won’t you pass on with me?” The smile from the past spread across her face as she looked at Triumph; waiting for his answer. The smile sent chills down his spine, before he was overcome with relief. ”Until death do us part?” Triumph shook his heads before his ghostly form closed the gap between the two of them and licked Evelyn’s face. ”No, together even in death.”

Evelyn gasped as the spear passed clean through her throat, or she tried to at least. The spear had crushed her airway, causing it to collapse on itself. So that when she had tried to gasp nothing but a gurgling sound came forth before blood started to spill out her mouth. By the time Vaida had pulled the spear from her throat she was already dead as she fell backwards and off of Triumph. With her death, came Triumph’s own, for in her last moments before death, she had sealed their lives together causing them to die at the same time. As Evelyn fell onto the ground, Triumph crumbled beside her. Time was indeed a cruel mistress, causing the past to almost repeat itself. This time they were gone for good though and thus ended the cruel saga that was Evelyn's life.

They had made it… Sophia breathed a shaky sigh of relief as her feet touched the ground. It was hard to stay standing with her knees shaking as much as they were beneath her dress, but the task was managed. She only wished Mihira had stayed standing as well. “No… I can’t blame you for what happened…” Her fingers locked together as she held the Luna tome close to her chest. “We’re both fine so… please stand a-and don’t worry… about this anymore.”

Sophia turned her gaze towards Vaida. The Wyvern Lord had come of her battle victorious, as were other wyvern riders as the last of the gargoyles were finished off. “We should be rejoicing, though… there is still another battle to come.” Sophia’s eyes drooped closed as she turned back to face Mihira. “A great evil… even more ancient than the heroes it controlled still waits in the shadows… We must go to join the others before they face it.” Her eyes reopened as she stared off into the distance. They were not far from the battle field, but they had wasted a lot of time bringing Evelyn to her end. The battle was not without reward though.

“Chizakura…” Sophia mumbled as she turned her head towards where Evelyn and Vaida were. The tome still lay abandoned on the ground, undisturbed since Evelyn had dropped it. “Forgive me; I will be right back… I’m going to retrieve Evelyn’s tome. It may be useful… in the coming battle…” The last line was nearly yelled as the lavender haired girl trotted off to pick up the tome. Averting her eyes from the gruesome scene she ignored the fallen hero as she snatched up the girl’s tome. A small gust of wind passed by her as she opened the book and stared at its pages. Her hair and dress stirred from the gust and Sophia could almost swear she had heard someone’s voice.
May it serve you well…
