He had come so close to dying and the day wasn’t even over with quite yet. Kirk had kept his cool afterwards, trying to calm down his crew and taking care of the problem obstructing the Enterprise.

Scott had given him an hour tops to having it neutralized. Thank God for that man, otherwise they’d be stuck on this unknown planet.

Though his mind was still uneasy as he situated himself in the captain’s chair. He still had to deal with Janice and any crewmen that happened to catch them. Jim couldn’t afford to lose the Enterprise, not now.
“All right. Hail Vulcan, and inform them we have fixed our problem and are heading to them now.” He ordered. Kirk smiled slightly, "Also, no more surprises on the way."

Cool and composed, at least he hoped to be conveying that now.

“Don’t worry, its gone…” Bones assured his staff with a warm smile. He still couldn’t believe that the problem had happened here and nearly took out his friend. Jim had been a fool. A dumbass. McCoy could go on with that list but his attention was on his nurses who had been afraid to come back in the sickbay.

It was normal to react like this, but they had jobs to do. Bones gave a brief speech, comforting words that seemed to fall on deaf ears. He wondered why he bothered trying with them. “Nurse, you have the scanner backwards…” he arched a brow.

Why? He asked himself silently. McCoy wanted competent staff which is why he was grateful for Chapel. She knew how to do things properly.
“If you need me, I’ll be in my quarters..” he still had those medical reports to look through. Staying here and trying to do it would result in his tolerance level vaporizing. Giving a nod, he gathered his medical data pad and left.

Kirk nodded, ending the transmission with the Vulcan councilmen. At least things were getting mobile. Jim would be grateful once Spock was aboard. The captain glanced sideways when Uhura entered the bridge. He wasn’t alone anymore.

So much for solitude.

He cracked a grin, chuckling slightly. “Everything? Ah, that’d take awhile to list off…Though lets go with everything is all right.” without much thought, Kirk stood up and walked forward, past the console for helms and stood in front of the view screen.

“What are you planning for shore leave?” he asked randomly it seemed. Kirk wanted his mind on other things. Also, it was strange considering Shore Leave wasn't until a couple of months.

Kirk shook his head. “No Lt…its quite all right. Sounds like a lot of fun.” He turned from the view screen and headed back to his chair. It felt strange to be away from it too long. Almost as if he’d lose his command.

Jim wondered what he’d do on his time off? He knew what he would have to do, it was just painful to think about it. He loved his mother dearly but sometimes, she’d see him as a ghost from the past. She never looked at his brother that way, just him.

The Captain cleared his throat, sitting up straighter when Janice entered. He couldn’t slack around that woman. “Could use some more CPR, but otherwise dandy.” He teased lightly. “So, how long before we arrive on Vulcan? It seems to be taking longer than expected..”
