I think it is a surprisingly well done hackjob of three completely unrelated anime series.

I think Lynn Minmei songs make excellent torture devices when I have no real preference on her as a character.

I'll always love Robotech truthfully..... It's what really got me into the whole anime and by extension mecha thing
But I shall forever hate harmony gold for taking my favorite Battletech Design (the marauder) from me because of it crying

Do yourself a favor. Don't pick up the comics they did. I've got the four out to date and one of them dedicates half the book to a crappily drawn flashback which recaps the entire story. I think the artist wanted to be abstract in the dream sequence, but it came out nothing short of suck.
Wait! Hold the mustard! Got one exception. A fifth comic called "From The Stars".
Quick Spoilers Ahead
It starts out just before the famous Valkrie we know and love is about to be dismantled. Thats right boys and girls. They're taking apart Skull One. Rick recaps about the days he and Roy used to spend at the airshow and how Roy left to fly with the military. Somehow, in what SHOULD be a recap from Rick, we find out about Roy's early military days. Everything is pre-Zentraedi invasion, short of when we return to Rick, who gets permission to take Skull One out for a last spin. After that (Which we don't get to see) Rick has a date with Lisa and pops the question. You all know how it goes from there.
End Spoilers
It's nothing terribly standoffish, and it's not required to understand anything else in the Robotech/Macross universe, but it's much better looking than the other four comics. If you see it lying around in a bargain bin, it might not be a bad idea to buy it or at the very least flip through it.

Max's rapidly transforming antics and the missile barrages were what always fascinated me.
... Lancer/Yellow was totally drool worthy too.

So, it looks like Best Buy got a few complete box sets of Robotech in. Priced at $88, I considered getting one.......then Volume One of Macross crossed my eyes. While the deal was pretty good, I couldn't help but wonder at the changes from Robotech to Macross (I've never really seen the original Macross).
All "Digitally Remastered" and everything, Macross looks better than ever. The story is more or less what you see in Robotech, so old fans of old cut n' paste might stay away. Still, if you've got a few buck to blow, the original content looks fine.
I'll assume we all know the good story here.
The voicing was beautiful. Hikaru gets the talent of Vic...um.....something or other.......sorry. I always forget his last name, but he did the voice of Shogo Yahagi in Megazone23.
.........Minmei's voice sounds a bit off kilter......still, guess it could be worse.
Anyway, you get six episodes for about 20 bucks, which covers everything up to the creation and usage of the Pinpoint Barrier (And the first Pinpoint Barrier Punch). A fairly nice way to blow a twenty and some free time.

Its a love it or hate it thing. I can see how those that grew up with it would like it, and there's no real problems with the story it tells. On the other hand, I just don't like the idea of it - the mashing of 3 series together.
I prefer Macross, but I've got nothing really against Robotech.

I wasn't a huge fan of Robotech especially after Roy died but yah it was a good anime. Have the Game Cube game which revolves around an original character. Probably would've beaten it long ago but I suck at "guard this from a bunch of these" missons. Really, who would send an unarmed Catseye into potentially hostle space with only a lone Veritech Fighter to guard it?
