By the time that they had made it up the mountain pass it had grown much darker, the wind had changed bringing with it a piercing cold that had shuddered against Jalil's body. He hated the cold, and he hated this place. Why he suggested coming here he was beginning to question. She wouldn't offer the girl any answers she sought, she might be hard pressed to do much more than go for Jalil's throat. "Eh..." He grunted heavily now that they were on the ridge overlooking the island. "She's here... I just don't know where... damn shadow." He cursed under his breath.

Cherie cast her white gaze about the place in which they had stopped. It seemed almost leery, but that didn't scare her much. The cold breeze ruffled her fur an she pulled her feathered wings closer to her side to trap in the heat. Taking a few cautious steps forward, she peered down at the Island. "Well... this is interesting." she muttered, simply for the fact that she was at a loss for words.

Jalil was getting a little irritated at this point, tilting his head up toward the mountains he began to shout, "Come out demoness! We know you're here, you can't fool me! We wish to speak to you, to seek your council."
After a long streak of silence suddenly a very strong female voice boomed over the ridge, "Be careful of whom you seek Son of Shannati. I hold no remorse for you nor the heritage of which you came. Even if you are the grandson of Tredes." A slight hiss came from her throat before any movement from a bought of shadows started to move. And just as it did you could suddenly notice that the figure didn't come from the shadows but oddly was the shadow, slowly shifting and forming into a lion body still as black as the night except for the slight white markings that seemed to appear only after the shadows shed from her skin. "What is it you want?" Her dark blue eyes began to glow.
Jalil hissed in response to her, he knew what his mother had done to Arei and so part of him understood her hatred for him, but he also had no desire to be met with her mistakes, "I've come so that you may talk to Cherie, she has some things to address with you." He motioned toward the red lioness, giving her a slight nod so that she might tell Arei what she had told him.

Cherie, if she were any normal lioness, might have been terrified by what she had just saw, however she remained un fazed. Dipping her head only slightly, her pure white gaze never left the shadowed cat. "Jalil tells me that you might be of assistance to me. I want to know why I can not remember the killings that I have been accused for, or why I can not shut my eyes without seeing a rain of blood. Why I can feel the sensation of ripping flesh beneath my claws constantly." she said, scraping her claws into the ground. "Or what I even am." she added a bit more quietly.

The midnight black lioness took a hard stare in Jalil's direction before finally stepping passed him, her blue eyes focusing on the bright girl in front of her. Taking a moment to process the information, she tilted her head slightly to one side, her tail flicking up against the stone floor. "I'm not quite sure what he thinks I can do for you... However, it isn't all that uncommon Child." Sitting back, "Do you know who I am?" Her eyes raised in the girl's direction and seeing a lack of luster in them she shook her head slightly, "I think not... I am Arei, the Shadow Maiden. I was once the goddess of the moon, the goddess that was meant to shed the world in complete darkness and turmoil, I was born and bred to kill, to lust for blood.. until I turned from that path. Jalil's own mother helped lead a revolution that was out to murder me." Her voice let out a harsh hiss.

Cherie tiled her head just a little, seemingly lost in deep thought. "How did you turn from that path?" she questioned. If this Shadow Maiden was able to stop herself from killing, perhaps there was some way Cherie had too. But why couldn't she remember anything besides blood and screams? "And how did you escape their angry claws?" she added as she sat down upon her haunches and curled her tail about her paws.

Arei couldn't help but let out a long sigh, "I was forced. I was given two options after my capture, change or be killed. You see this?" Her head moved up as the moonlight glinted off of an amethyst shaped diamond on her forehead, "I was put under large amounts of radiant magic... to subdue my dark inner demon. And then I was forced to become a guardian for their cause, to redeem myself for the countless numbers I've killed. I do not suggest this path if you have the will to overcome it yourself... but if it is what you wish I believe I could find a way to help you... but it might take some thought on my part for how to do it."

Cherie shook her head. "I can not remember a thing about my past, and yet at times I feel an overwhelming need to kill." she stated, her eyes now shut. Drops of crimson red rain began falling in her mind. It seemed so real that she swore she could feel it dripping down her pelt. "How can you help me? Anything is better than the nothing I have now." she said, opening her eyes into slits. She glanced at the Shadow Maiden, back to Jalil, then to the Shadow Maiden once more.

"I suggest trying to help yourself... your own will power goes a long way vs using magic to help. There are still days when I wish to kill more than anything else... however... there are other options if its too much that could at least give you time to regain your strength and mind." Sighing, Arei shook her head back and forth vigorously. "My dear... when did this start? How long have you had these thoughts and feelings?"
Jalil remained mostly quiet, unsure of how to address what was going on. Yes he was demonic himself but the helplessness that Cherie felt with it was way beyond him.

Cherie concentrated hard on her paws. It was hard to pinpoint exactly when these things started happening. "Sometime....shortly after my parents disappeared. I was still young." she said, shaking her head in frustration. She knew that her absent mind wasn't helping any. How could she get this shadowed lion to help her if she couldn't even help herself. "I remember hiding in a fallen log for three days that felt like eternity. On the fourth morning all I remember is a menacing looking shadow reaching in to get me. After that, all I see is blood." she said with a sigh and a shrug.

Raising her head up toward the moon a slight shimmering of stars could be seen lighting up the darkness on her pelt, almost as if reflecting the stars that were shining above the trio. "Believe it or not that helps more than you might think. If I'm correct that should mean that it isn't you. I was created to kill, you on the other hand seem to be in a bad predicament where you might actually be possessed." She took a step closer to the girl, "In that case, not all hope is lost. We need to figure out where and how you received this demon and what it is. Then we can figure out how to get rid of it or at the very least subdue it."
Jalil listened to this with a slight muse, to rid her completely of it wasn't exactly what he had in mind.

Cherie tilted her head. Possessed? That sure as hell seemed to clear up a lot of things. Her mind twirled with possibilities. She was so used to the screaming inside her head she wondered if she could sleep without it. Smirking at her thoughts, she let out a light chuckle. "I'm not so sure I could live without this demon completely.... but at the very least, I can live with a subdued one. It is an answer none the less and that is all I really wanted. Clues. A slight glimmer. Something." she stated, seeming a tad more of what she considered to be her normal self than the confused sulky lioness she hated to show.

"Well, that is your choice, though I can understand why. I'm not sure I could live completely without mine either." She watched the female carefully before turning her eyes over to Jalil with a slight glare. Still, he had brought her there out of a selfless act, for that she held a little more respect for him than previously. "As I said... I can probably find a way for the demon to be subdued much in the same way mine is, but it might be safer to know exactly what we're dealing with before using anything. We don't know what kind of reaction the demon might have to certain magics. But there should be a way to do it, at least eventually. But for now... I should leave the two of you be, I have a family to attend to." She glanced back in Cherie's direction, "If you need me.. you know where to find me, I'll be watching." She then blinked out of existence.
Frowning, Jalil walked up a little closer to Cherie, "So what are you thinking now?"

Cherie shrugged. She had gotten more out of this than she had expected and she really owed it to Jalil. "Well... I'm thinking how do we find out just exactly what kind of demon I'm dealing with." she mused, glancing back at his direction. She let a smirk crawl over her jaws. "What are you frowning at now?" she teased. "You helped me figure out something about me. For that I am grateful."

"To find that out we need to find out the source, which is locked in your memories. The location... is the best place to start." He let out a soft sigh, shaking his head back and forth, he really had no desire to want to figure this out right now. There would be months of hardships for her once they did and for some reason he couldn't bring himself to be the cause of them, even if it was what she wanted. He merely grunted at the last of her questions, "I suppose... but I don't really feel like I helped, because in the end you might hurt worse than you do now."
