Summer in Ikebukero was always hot, there was just no getting around it. Drowsy golden eyes watched the throngs of humans that paced up and down a busy city street, and the young cat who owned them yawned widely before letting her head rest on her paws again. From her vantage point, high in the branches of a cherry tree, she was able to watch the humans without fear of being bothered by them. However, any mischief that she had planned to cause for them was quickly squashed by the heat that seemed to make her fur sag.

Well this was just no fun at all... Demi had to find somewhere to get out of the heat until the afternoon passed. Decisively, she stood up on the branch and made her way down the tree, leaping from it to the top of a high wall. Her ears drooped as she walked, and even the fluffy stump of a tail she had was limp. Following a cat's trail of walls, alleys, and rooftops, the small American Bobtail carefully weaved her way away from the crowded streets of town and into the quieter neighborhoods of an upper-class residential district. Although the heat was still terrible, at least here she could curl up for a nap. She paused on a fence to yawn again, and glanced into the yard inside. Fluffy green grass carpeted the ground and numerous flowerbeds decorated the yard. Beneath the shadow of a sizable tree was a cute little bench. Hopping from the fence and into the yard, Demi decided that this would be the ideal place to wait out the sunny afternoon. The grass felt immediately cooler underpaw, and soon she had made her way under the bench and in the cool, breezy shade of the tree. Circling in the grass a few times, Demi finally curled up into a small ball and allowed sleep to take over for her. Here she waited as the sun made it's way across the sky and was beginning to dip over the horizon.

Belle's new environment was taking a toll on her. After being re-homed, left out in the middle of a scorching hot day. She wasn't sure what to do with herself, or if she would even survive in the blistering heat. "Oh dear, the sun is killing me. My fur... oh my precious fur." She sighed hopelessly as she looked at her front legs and noticed how her coat was drooping miserably. She looked around this new found area and made a disgusted expression. "Disgusting place. How could one live in a mess like this." She complained about the condition of her situation in a loathing tone.

Belle had been snatched up by a stranger, brought to a house where the yard was never taken care of, the inside was always a dump, and not to even mention the little girl who always pulled her pretty tail. Right now she was a total mourning wreck. She'd give anything to be back in her cool air conditioned house right now. Where there would be the best quality food and water whenever she wanted. Where she would get attention of the gentle sort. Where when need be she would be taken to the groomers for a monthly fix up. Now all that was gone, and she was stuck here, unable to find her way home.

No, she wouldn't stand for that. There definitely had to be a way to get back home to her life luxuries. "I can't be thrown out everyday. It just can't work that way. I need to get home..." With that idea firmly stuck in her head Belle was off, walking over to the fence of the backyard of the house she was currently staying at and leaped up on the wooden post. "Hm, but where would I even begin?" She questioned herself with concern. "Well, I guess anywhere is better then here.... right?" She felt a bit afraid of leaving, where at least she was given a meal every night. If she left she would have to scavenge for food herself and she was completely against that idea. Right now, she was lost in her desire to be treated like royalty again. So, off she went, walking down the fence, trying to puff up her pride in being able to take on this adventure home.

Walking on the fence like a wire she kept her eyes on the look out. As she went on her search it only seemed to get better and better. The more she climbed and the more she snooped around the better the scenery, the better the housing, obviously. There was a point where she thought she had made it home but that house just seemed to look like every other in the area. She just had to live on the street where everybody had to have the same basic fancy house. By this time Belle had made up her mind. She hated the out doors. Finally, she spotted a familiar yard. Not that she would ever play out in front but she would look through the front window and stuff. When rushing towards her home, all to happy to see it, Belle stopped suddenly. Her expression went from joyous and hopeful to shocked and betrayed. There was a cat laying on her yard. The first thing to pop into her head was that maybe her owners had gotten a replacement.

She wearily walked closer and closer to the other cat, finding it very nerve wracking to face somebody who supposed to replaced you. "Excuse me," Belle began in a rude and pushy tone. "What do you think you're doing on my lawn." She let her overheated tail swish and sway angrily. At the same time this cat looked much more stealthy and probably was better at fighting then Belle was. She kept her eyes locked on the American Bobtail and held her ground, even though she wanted to just walk away from it all. To late for retreats now.

When Demi had settled down for her nap, she didn't count on the sun moving around all the shadows, so what started out as a nice, cool, breezy place to escape the heat was a sweltering, sweaty mess when she was roused. Blinking open lethargic golden eyes, the small cat murred in disappointment. "Geez, stupid sun..." She grumbled quietly to herself, not yet taking notice of the ball of fur standing before her in a huff. Demi yawned and lifted her head to glare at the hot, gaseous ball of light in the sky, only to find herself staring into the irked blue eyes of an unfamiliar cat.

Flicking her ears in mild confusion, Demi blinked at her and tilted her head. "Hey there," She mewed tentatively, "Who are you, and is there something I can do for you?" She had obviously missed the rude awakening call in her heat-sleepy state, but she was mildly annoyed by having a strange cat stare at her while she slept. As she became more awake and aware of things, the American Bobtail took note of the displeased expression on this cat's prissy little face and the way her annoyingly fluffy tail lashed about behind her. A little irked herself, now, Demi sat up and stared at the Ragamuffin with her ears tilted back defensively, "Well, speak up! It's rude to stare at someone while they sleep, you know."

Hey There? That's all this cat had to say after the greeting Belle had delivered. Something started to linger around her pretty little head, though. This cat seemed different. Surely, it was pretty much safe to say she was Belle's opposite, just judging by her less then elegant appearance. Would her owners really go out and buy such a cat to replace her? At least they could have gotten a prettier one. Well, in Belle's mind she wasn't all that much to look at, or perhaps it was just jealousy. To any other Demi and Belle were both pretty splendid cats.

"I am not watching you sleep. Please. I said what are you doing on my lawn?" She let an avalanche of snotty attitude lace it's way into her words. Her tail swishing to and fro from irritation. "Nevermind. How could I think somebody like you could have possibly replaced somebody like me, hah!" She straightened out her legs and began to walk in a dainty fashion towards the front door where she would meow to be let in. Little did Belle know that her family was out for the evening. Sitting there, meowing and betting to be let inside where the air was so much cooler and probably a bit clear then outside's, nobody came to answer, though. "Oh dear.... where are they?" She let out a sigh of embarrassment as Demi was probably getting the best of this.

Demi stared at the Ragamuffin flatly as the other laid the attitude upon her as thick as could be. The words buzzed in the Bobtail's hot little head as the fluffy cat kept going, and her golden eyes seemed fixated on the long, furry tail that kept waving around.

"...Replace you...? Oi, what the heck are you going on about...?" She murmured, yawning again as the prissy cat pranced away from her and to the door to the house, "Somehow, I don't think I'd be interested in such a position..." Recalling that she had been accused of stealing the Ragamuffin's yard, Demi flicked an ear and began sniffing around at various patches of grass, at the tree trunk, at the bench, and at the flower beds; all the while, the lightly-colored stranger yowled at the door to what had appeared to be an empty house. Finally, the small Bobtail padded up quietly to sit off to the side of the poor, distraught cat, giving her a tentative sniff as she did so. "Sorry to say, Princess, but I don't think anyone's gonna answer you." She nyaowed suddenly, opening one eye to look up at her mid-sniff, "I haven't been disturbed all day; that is, until you came along anyway."

Demi lapped at her paw a few times, then ran it over her right ear before repeating the process on the left. The bell hanging from her green ribbon jingled briefly as she smoothed the fur on her chest and adjusted the uncomfortable collar. She pulled at her sleeveless blouse, straightening it as she went about her grooming. What used to be a white tank and skirt outfit had been transformed into a dirty brownish-black mess and her skirt was ripped in several places from her careless lifestyle and her habit of getting lost. When she seemed to be satisfied with her fur, the American Bobtail again considered the haughty cat in front of her. "I thought you said this was your yard before," She began with a loaded tone, "it's really strange for you to say something like that, I haven't scented you anywhere around here." It was becoming apparent, to Demi at least, that this Princess was delusional or suffering from heat stroke of some sort.

The elegant feline swiftly twirled around, sending her tail swishing in the air as it hung high. There was a good reason this spunky little ball of fur didn't catch Belle's scent in her senses. She never ventured outside. Surely, if Demi were to wander inside of the household Belle's distinct and delicious fragrance would be everywhere. "That's because I never stroll around the yard you dim witted creature." She let her eyes turn cold as they stayed steady on Demi. She was never usually this rude. It was just, what with all the horrible happenings she was a little over the edge. It wasn't long before she noticed her own faults and sat in a calm yet disappointed manner.

"I don't mean to be so tense. I apologize. Just being outside for so long... and it's just so terribly hot... I don't know what came over me." She let out a soft huff of air and inhaled an equally warm one. The sun was probably getting to her, she decided, and without the safety of walls around her it was a bit nerve wracking. "My name is Belle..." she decided that maybe she could nurses some wounds she had clawed into this first impression. "What should I call the stranger who sleeps in my front yard?" she let a smile grace her lips to show how she was simply being a tad bit playful.

Demi tilted her head to the side as an amused grin spread across her face; yea, this cat was definitely overheated. Getting back to her feet, the young bobtail stretched her arms high over her head and gazed over to the fence that led her into this yard to begin with. "Consider your apology accepted, Princess." She mewed lightly, turning back with a good-natured smile. Her nap had done nothing but good things for her, and this prissy little lost cat wouldn't be able to dampen her mood. " Your Highness may call me Demi. If you don't mind a little water, I know a place where the both of us can go cool off."

Demi walked over to the fence and mounted it effortlessly, balancing on the top without much of a thought. "Come on, the sun won't be up for too much longer, but it's gonna take a while for this heat to fade." She beckoned, her ears flicking back mischievously, "With all that fur, it's no wonder you're going a little crazy out here..."

Belle wasn't all to sure on how to take the nicknames from this smarty pants. Was it an insult or was it just out of respect. The words seemed to twist and confuse the poor Ragamuffin's sense of social skills. "Demi, what is that derived from? I've never heard of such a name." She took sluggish steps towards the short haired Bobtail, feeling her fur weigh her down since it was so lame with the heat and all. What really caught her interest, besides her name, was when she spoke of a cool place. She had two options it seemed. A) Go with this little one to a place where she wouldn't feel like fainting from heat or B) Stay here and wait for her owners to come home, and that could take a while.

"Well, Demi. I would love to join you, but might I ask where we are going?" She trotted her way threw the grass quickly to catch up with her new acquaintance. She leaped up onto the fence, digging her claws in and finding it a bit different from jumping on furniture. Yes, she very much preferred the indoors. "Now, when you say a little water... do you mean a little water, or am I going to have to get soaked?" She lowered her head as she came up behind the younger female, eying her suspiciously. "I am not one for water but I can tolerate it if I must."

Demi merely shrugged at the Ragamuffin's question and smiled, "I don't know what my name is derived from, does it need a deeper meaning?" She giggled to herself atop the fence as the long-haired cat made her way miserably over to join her. The way her hair lay flat and lifeless made her look soaked already. "Hmm... I guess you'll find out when we get there, right?" Demi mewed mysteriously, giving the other girl a rather cheeky grin before wandering off along the fence, keeping her balance effortlessly even without a tail.

"Don't fall behind, okay Princess?" She called back over her shoulder, "It's really easy to get lost out here!" Bringing a hand to her mouth, the small bobtail stifled another set of amused giggles and kept her ears tilted back, listening for the Ragamuffin's following pawsteps.

Belle licked her parched lips and wondered if the water would be clean enough to drink when they got there. "Alright, Demi. I'll let you lead the way to this mysterious place but once we get there, missy, you tell me a little about yourself." She was interested to hear this feline's story. As Belle continued to follow the little punktress she couldn't help but notice her tail. It wasn't there. Belle had never witnessed something quiet like this before and it intrigued her greatly.

"Excuse me, but what happened to your tail?" she asked with concern, as if it wasn't suppose to be like that. "Did it get cut off in some unfortunate accident?" She watched as the cat walked along the fence and she was dying for her to give her a truthful serious answer. Hopefully it wouldn't be to depressing for Belle to hear. Little did she know that some cats were actually born like that.

Demi laughed at the cat behind her as she talked. "Sure sure, I'll tell you my whole life story if you want." She mewed, putting a hand on her hip as she walked, "You have some pretty interesting demands for a Princess." Turning her head, Demi took a moment to get her bearings before jumping down from the fence and padding at a brisk pace down a quiet sidewalk. At Belle's inquiry about her tail, the kit stopped and tilted an ear back before turning her head and glancing down at her stub of a tail. "No, it wasn't cut off." She mewed slowly, lifting her gaze to the fluffy Ragamuffin and giving her a playful smile, "It was never there to begin with!" Demi giggled and winked at Belle before turning to lead the way confidently again. "Come on, Princess, we're almost there!"

Down the road, up onto a wall, up a fire escape, and across a few more rooftops, the two cats found themselves looking down on a large facility with bright, joyous blue colors and fishes decorating the front of it. "Here we are! This place is wonderful!" She chirped excitedly, opening her arms wide and presenting the Namiko Aquarium to the hot, fluffy cat.

With the confession of never having a tail to begin with Belle slowly but surely displayed a stare of amazement. Without her tail she wasn't sure what she would do. She found it to be one of her most stunning features, but Demi was still a lovely little thing even without a puffy tail like Belle's. "Oh, how peculiar." She stared at it a moment longer as they walked on but soon grew more interested in her surroundings. Where were they going? The Ragamuffin knew that it wouldn't be helpful to ask because obviously this little kitten wanted it to be a surprise.

At last, when the small bobtail announced their arrival Belle looked up at the blue hued building. Interesting designs of fish painted all along the sides and decorated pleasantly. "Oh, and um, exactly what is this wonderful place called?" She asked keeping her eyes on the walls of the Aquarium. "It's cool inside?" She asked hopefully. Maybe they had a high powered air conditioner. She never expected large bodies of water to be inside of buildings, at least there weren't any in her house at the time.

Without waiting another second the Ragamuffin let her curiosity get the best of her. Just that slight wonder and amusement often triggered a series of unfortunate events, but she didn't seem to understand that. She quickly searched for a way inside, which wasn't hard because the doors were so light and easy to move. "Oh my..." She stopped in her tracks at the cool air hitting her face and the sight of all these tanks around her. It was truly something magical to her. "D-demi..." she stuttered from pure amazement. "This is so extraordinary!" She turned and gave her new little friend a large grin. "Oh thank you for showing me such a place!" She was quick to rush over to the kit and nuzzle her for thanks.

Demi raised an eyebrow at the Ragamuffin's hesitant response to their destination and grinned, "Of course it's cool inside!" She jumped down and followed the suddenly curious princess into the building and chuckled quietly to herself at the girl's reaction to all the tanks and fish and cool air.

"H-hey! It's fine," She laughed, jumping a little as the older girl suddenly nuzzled her, "This is the Namiko Aquarium! I found it on one of my exploratory trips through this part of town. Pretty cool, right? You don't have to get soaked either, and there's plenty of food here! It's the best ever!" Demi laughed, growing more excited right along with the Ragamuffin cat before her. "Wanna see more? They've got these really cool exhibits in some of the fish tanks with like, beaches and islands and stuff! It's a lot of fun!" Grabbing Belle's hand with both of her own, the bobtailed kitten tugged her eagerly to venture further into the building with her.

Belle took hold of Demi's hand as she was tugged along. "The Namiko Aquarium?" She repeated the name to store it in her mind. "How stunning." She let her eyes wander around the tanks and over the scaly fish inside. All of this glancing around was starting to make her head a bit dizzy so she hooked arms with her new friend and grinned at her happily. "Demi, I would love to see more! It's so fascinating!" She was surprised that she was getting along with such a feral thing but this girl wasn't so bad. She was actually really nice. Maybe, first impressions don't last. "Lead the way, Spunky." She smirked slightly and nudged the girl to let her know it was just a playful nickname.

(Tis fine! biggrin )

Demi giggled, pleased to see the prissy Ragamuffin loosening up a bit; her ear flicked at the playful nickname too. "It would be my honor, Your Highness." She mewed in response, holding her arm up in an escort's position, looped with Belle's. The young Bobtail led her down several hallways, all of them showcasing either several small aquariums or a few larger exhibits. Her golden eyes widened in wonder when the floor suddenly sloped downward and opened up into a long tunnel, the walls and arched ceiling made completely of glass and submerged under a huge tank. The corridor was illuminated in a soft blue glow and liquid patterns wavered and danced across the floor, thrown from the light far above them.

Out into the exhibit, one could see colorful coral reefs and fishes of all types, colors, and sizes. Swimming among the smaller fishes was a much larger whale or a small pod of dolphins. A dark shadow would slink over the hall as one of these larger creatures would drift over the top of it. Despite it being completely under water, this was Demi's favorite part of the aquarium. The base of her ears trembled slightly with her enthusiasm, and she glanced over to Belle for her reaction. "Now, this is stunning, right Princess?" She grinned, her eyes dancing.
