Shinoma snorted rabbit fur off her nose, skinning the little corpse neatly, and chewing on the sweet meat below. She'd not eaten rabbit since she was a filly, and this for her was comfort food, a snack to take her mind off the fact that she still couldn't fly after that last fight. Her wing was slowly healing; she'd frightened the two-legger her mother had told her about into fixing it, and because the woman had a reverence for life she'd done so.
She'd soon stripped the meat from all the small bones, and she chewed on one as she lay in the grass, a striking patch of colour against the greenery around her. Her ears flicked as she ate, listening to the sounds around her, cautious of a rival Kalona approaching when she was unable to take to the wing, and for all purposes was still injured.
Shinoma grumbled to herself; it had been a hard learned lesson, but worthwhile as well. Even if a Soquili looked meek there was a chance they would attack, and so she would remember that. When she found those two again..things would go differently. She grinned as she remembered how close she'd come to strangling that mare with her tail, and lazily licked her lips, the sun on her back making her slightly mellow.

Deception had somehow managed to slink out of the sight of his mother and grandmother and so was enjoying his time exploring the world. Pupilless eyes took in everything around him, searching for something .. anything that would prove interesting. Alas he saw nothing and let out a disgruntled snort, leave it to this hell hole to have nothing for a board kalona to do. The brown dappled colt paused and turned his head this way and that, he was large for a foal standing maybe a hand or two taller than your average foal and already showing the hints of what would be well defined muscles once he reached adulthood. His, for now, flightless wings flapped at his sides for a moment then he caught a whiff of something that made his ears perk. Blood? Yes that had to be fresh blood. With a fangy grin Deception commenced to slinking forward following the scent of the fresh blood to it's source.

Her wings were open now, the injured one stretched out in a careful fashion, the bindings still firmly in place. She lay, catching the sun like some overly large, demonic butterfly and yawned...her wings slowly shut and her eyes drew open. She was sure she'd heard someone approaching, and she slowly got to her hooves, scanning around her.
'I hear you..' Shinoma whispered to herself, all alert now. Her nose flared, she couldn't yet catch a scent, but if they were trying to sneak up on her they had failed, and would find her ready and waiting.

Deception followed the scent right to the mare. His head tilted back as he looked up at her his face emotionless for a moment. Pupilless eyed studied the mare, she smelled kalona .. but never before had he seen a tail like hers, wings like hers, and her body .. the way it shifted and flowed like the shadows themselves was so very delightful ... such an interesting creature.
He eyed the carcass nearby and wrinkled his nose, to late ... ah well he found a more interesting prize anyway.
His head snapped back to the full grown female. "Might I ask ... what -are- you? Never before have I seen a creature like you in my ... short life. He stretched out as if he was going to try and n** at her smokey legs as if drawn to them. He was much like his mother in that way .. drawn to those that were different or strong in some way.

'You're too late,' Shinoma replied offhandly, looking down at the Kalona colt. It was a slight disappointment; her mother's tail had all but vanished from the Kalona bloodline. Were they the mutation, or had it been her mother, the first of her kind to come into these parts who was not the norm? It was only slight though, his interest in the scraps of her meal at least meant this was not another who was afraid to be what he should.
'What am I?' she snorted faintly. It really was rare if new generations didn't even recognise a fellow Kalona with her tail. She flicked it on the ground in front of the colt, a warning to keep his distance. Being injured meant being on guard. She would never show that she was potentially weak if she could help it.
'I am my mother. I am my father. I am their blood co-mingled.' she knew she more closely resembled her mother, despite her father's shadow influences.
'I am Kalona. I am Shadow Unicorn..and I could snap your little neck if I felt like it.' she added with a sly grin. Of course she wouldn't, she was no Skinwalker and did possess a set of morals that meant no reckless killing of other Kalona.

"Lucky for me then I wasn't too hungry," his tail swayed back and forth and he only straightened slightly under her gaze but he was still leaned towards her eying her shadowy legs ... such an interesting creature she was.
He rocked back as she waved her tail at him but his grin only grew wider. So she -was- kalona, his ears twitched when she said 'shadow unicorn' normally that would have set him off, but he ignored it this time, he didn't smell much unicorn on the mare so he let it go.
"I'd heard of Kalona with tails such as yours, but thought t only legends and fairy tails." His wings flapped in delight and he snickered taking half a step back to look up at her again.
"I have no doubt you could, I am still young," he flexed his wings again and folded them down against his back as he gazed up at her void like white eyes glowing with maniacal delight. This day was starting to prove itself to be very interesting.

He was a bold little fellow, Shinoma continued to be pleased by this colt the more she was in his company. How refreshing it was to find one outside of her family that wasn't a pale mockery of a Kalona! Their blood and inclinations should never be wasted..
'Oh? Well I'm not a twinkly little flutter,' she replied with evident distaste at having to say that word.
'I'm very, very real.'
She stared back at him, returning the 'empty' gaze with a steady one of her own. She had no doubt that his eyes would probably disturb most, but she wasn't one of them.
'I've killed one around your age before now.' she affirmed with a smirk. 'Though of course he was a shade compared to you.'
She laid it on with a slightly wheedling voice, trying to look admiring. Inwardly she was laughing at herself, but it never hurt to encourage young predators.

Deception's tail swung and her rocked back far on his heels so the claws on the back of his hocks nearly raked the ground, How he wished he had a rock to scrub them against and sharpen them so he could easily shred his prey with a well placed kick out of his hooves. His tail continued to swing as he considered things and weighed his options. But her voice soon brought him right back out of his plannings.
"I would hope no kalona ever breed to a flutter and gave those little bugs our blessed looks."
His wings flared out making the muscles along his back ripple under his leathery coat. Shifting again he turned his attention back to her.
"Was said colt a lesser?" A delighted grin that screamed malice, and to another breed would have screamed danger stretched across pearly fangs and he leaned closer again. "Even better was it a bird brain?"
A shiver of pure pleasure ran down his body as he pondered what it would feel like ripping that one bird brain's wings apart feather by agonizingly brutal feather.

'I would hope not either.' Shinoma replied, in full agreement with that statement. Generally she wasn't so full on when it came to hybrids, to mixing Kalona blood with other breeds, they could still be skilled, and vicious. She was a testament to that. She had a feeling however that the flutters 'goodness' would win out in such a melding.
'It was a grounded.' she replied. 'Died as it had obviously lived, in a pitiful manner.' she snorted faintly, amused at the malice he obviously felt for the winged ones.
'What is this? Do you have particular reason to hope for it have been a winged, is there some slight you wish revenge for?'

"Those .. bugs, have nothing good to pass on to offspring of a -fine- kalona," his tail flicked "if one must mix bloods then it should be with a creature that can pass on the right traits to the offspring of the union." Had she not said she was part unicorn before? "As must be proof by your parents, if you are part unicorn as you say." The colt eyed her again, she didn't show any unicorn heritage.
"Mmm .. grounded .. they are not my favorite dinner, unless it is a young one, those with wings just have better meat to my pallet."
"Indeed, I have been on the hunt for a wind stallion who thought he could bulley off a kalona foal." he snapped his fangs "as soon as I'm grown and ready I plan to rip those wings apart feather by feather." He grinned again and shivered in delight at his own devious plots.

'I am as I say, on my Father's side, but be assured that half of lust for the kill comes from him. He is a very dark unicorn..' Shinoma smiled, she owed her father much and he was greatly respected by her.
'They aren't mine.' she replied, remembering a taste that had never left her though she'd had it just the once, and that when she was a filly.
'It was more a test of skill, I was hunting with my sister and my father wanted to know if we could hunt well together.'
She grinned, delighting in what he was feeling as though it were her own vengeful thoughts.
'I'm sure you will be a force to be reckoned with, perhaps when you are grown we can go on a hunt together?' she offered.

His tail snapped behind him lightly "I've heard of dark unicorns, but I didn't think it possble .. then again who would think pansy kalonas could be prancing around spreading their seed to lessers not worthy of the dirt they trod upon." He growled deep in his throat and his tail flicked for a moment.
He chuckled at the comment and grinned "well, we all have our own tastes, it would be quiet sad if we all ate the same kinds .. far to many lessers would get away unscathed."
He let her talk for the moment as he listened "you both must have done well, my mother didn't tolerate failure very well so myself and my siblings learned quickly."
He chuckled but grinned at her complements "I would love to go hunting with you once I grow. It would be a great honor."
