Thoroughbred Egg
The Thoroughbred Egg is placed right next to the Kiger Mustang, rivaling it in size. The Thoroughbred Egg comes up just shy of the Kiger Mustang, though it seems to be slimmer as well as shorter. The egg is a very bright coppery-orange color, smeared with a white blaze right down the center. Bright as it might be, it is not nearly as forward as the Kiger Mustang Egg.
Brown Matsukazaeth to A'nt

Quarter Horse Egg
What the Quarter Horse Egg lacks in size, it certainly makes up in beauty. Tucked near the back of the clutch, the egg’s base color is a deep, chocolately brown with strings of white and lighter shades of tan and cream drizzled over the top and dripped down as though someone had actually spilled paint all over the egg. The Quarter Horse Egg is rolled over on its side, lost somewhere behind the Kiger Mustang, but it really only gives the patterning more of a visual appeal.
Blue Bayarth to J'ken

Kiger Mustang Egg
Well, someone certainly wants to be the center of attention! One of the largest eggs, the Kiger Mustang Egg sits in the very middle of the sands, surrounded by all its siblings. It’s leaning back ever so slightly; if there was ever any way an egg could look pleased, this one certainly would. The egg itself is actually rather plain, a dull sandy color fading darker around the top and bottom. While it is rather big, it doesn’t tower over the other eggs, though it does seem to be hoarding it’s clutch mates closer.
Bronze Xanthoth to B'lin

Arabian Egg
Ever clutch has its rebel, and the Arabian Egg is no exception. Not actually outside the Kiger Mustang Egg’s reach, the dark egg is tipped on its axis, pointing away from the rest of its clutch. The egg doesn’t actually give off any strong vibes, it’s just pointing the wrong way. The Arabian Egg is a bright mahogany and with a splotch of white at each end; each splotch of white has a crisp black ring circling it.
Blue Redhath to M'al

American Paint Egg
One of the smaller eggs, the American Paint Egg is nestled close to the Kiger Mustang’s side, tucked in nice and close. The egg itself is easily one of the most noticeable in the entire clutch, a bright white with patches of orange littering its shell. The patches are uneven and rough with speckles of orange littering the white surrounding the patches, giving the egg a very messy look.
Green Hwinth to Ferris

Shetland Egg
The Shetland Egg is the smallest egg in the entire clutch, but it doesn’t seem concerned at all! Directly in front of the Kiger Mustang Egg, the Shetland egg stands at attention, just as ready to be admired as any other egg in the clutch. The little egg is dark, somewhere between black and smoky brown with a grayish patch right in the very center. The patch looks like it should be white, perhaps, and someone just got the egg dirty.
Green Eponath to Inaari

Clydesdale Egg
The Clydesdale egg is dappled brown, white flecks littering the egg like little grey hairs. Quite large, it’s impossible to actually measure the size of this egg versus its siblings. Why? The Clydesdale Egg has been knocked over and seems to have rolled away from the herd, though whether this was intentional or an accident is completely up the imagination of the viewer. Exact measurements or not, the Clydesdale Egg is pretty large. Perhaps not obscenely so; it could hold anything from a very large blue to a small bronze; it’s anyone’s game.
Blue Hasufeth to M'rik

Gypsy Vanner Egg
The Gypsy Vanner Egg is nearest the wayward Clydesdale, standing proudly as though it was ignoring its sibling. The egg is also patchy, like the American Paint Egg, though it is larger, closer to average sized. Its patches, however, are black, and much more cleanly cut than the American Paint Egg, giving it a much more distinguished look.
Blue Toronth to W'in

Akhal Teke Egg
The Akhal Teke Egg is the furthest in back of the herd and thus, closest to the Nightmare Egg. The Akhal Teke may actually be larger than the Kiger Mustang egg, but it’s hard to judge. Nevertheless, the bright, sandy-colored egg shimmers brightly in the light, the dapple pattern on the egg giving it some sort of glowing effect. The egg is leaning forward ever so slightly and the egg itself gives off a very forward aura.
Brown Varth to A'bri

Nightmare Egg
The furthest back, with good reason, is the Nightmare Egg. Smaller than most Queens, the Nightmare Egg stands on par with the Kiger Mustang, Thoroughbred and Akhal Teke Eggs, and it’s not impressed with that. The egg itself is very bright, fluctuating shades of reds and oranges wrapped in the natural golden sheen of a Queen egg, it appears to be smoldering. Everything about the egg is fiery, even the aura it gives off. The Nightmare Egg is tipped ever so slightly, leaning towards the Akhal Teke Egg.
Gold Arioth to Rinfala

American Sport Horse Egg
Up close and comfortable with the Sorraia Mustang Egg, the speckled American Sport Horse Egg seems quite content to be with its sibling. Still part of the herd, the American Sport Horse Egg is wedged in front of the Sorraia Mustang, clearly the more forward of the pair. It's equally as visually appealing, a dark base speckled with white until it slowly fades out near the top of the egg. Placed against the Sorraia Mustang, it makes quite the visual effect.
Brown Ormeteth to G'ran

Sorraia Mustang Egg
Nestled with the American Sport Horse Egg, the Sorraia Mustang Egg seems content to be out of the limelight. It is neither large nor small and the pattern is not bold, but upon closer inspection, it is actually quite beautiful. A dull, sandy color, the egg's bottom half is darker, cross with small dark strips that slowly meld together, making the very bottom of the egg a large dark patch.
Brown Tanith to Ash'ran

Andalusian Egg
A very dashing egg indeed, the Andalusian Egg is quite large, rivaling the Akhal Teke and the Kiger Mustang. While in the herd, this egg is standing toward the outer rim, as though unimpressed with the Kiger Mustang. The egg itself is really quite beautiful, light grey and dappled dark with lighter flecks littered across the egg. The egg has a very uneasy feeling hanging about it, getting close to it only intensifies the strange feeling.
Blue ??? betweened

Freisan Egg
Small and stout, the Freisan Egg is fairly close to its sibling, the Shetland Egg. Larger, though not by much, the Freisan Egg is just as commanding. The egg is black as night, with very little variation on the entire shell. However, when light strikes the egg, it shows patterning impossible to see in dimly lit areas. Slightly tipped to one side, the Freisan Egg is nevertheless proud to be there.
Green Condoroth to Kesslan

Sandalwood Pony Egg
A relatively small egg, the Sandalwood Pony Egg could be a large green, or perhaps a small blue. It seems sort of obscure, nestled towards the back (though far away from the Nightmare and the Akhal Teke) and tipped to one side carelessly. The egg is mottled and the colors dull, really nothing exciting to look at. Nonetheless, it gives no sense of shying away from its siblings.

Times must be getting tough, K'em mused, if Weyrlingmaster F'sey was allowing outsiders into his little poker games. It used to just concern greenriders and the stray bluerider and brownrider (weyrlings of his, if K'em understood correctly), but numbers had dwindled. With all the turmoil in the Weyr, it appeared that some had started to keep to themselves. He was even having trouble finding a nice girl to spend a night with, these days. Somehow, he ended up here.

Yes, times must be getting tough, K'em decided, that, or F'sey had heard how horrible he was at dragon poker. That was always a very strong possibility.

"You know," the wingsecond said, "I think I'm going to-"

They hatch! My children, they are hatching! Cheoth's roar rattled through Ista.

F'sey gave K'em a blank look and gathered up the cards. "It looks like you got lucky, wingsecond," he murmured. K'em rolled his eyes and said nothing, making for the door. It wouldn't do, for him to skip a hatching for a game of dragonpoker. (Really, it was fantastic timing. He was about to lose the rest of his marks.) Besides, he wouldn't want to. Hatchings were so exciting! And the sun had gone down hours past. People might be sleepy, but at least they wouldn't be keeling over with heatstroke.

"Best we get to the Sands quickly," he said to F'sey, heading down the corridor. K'em grinned. "Faranth only knows what sort of horrors Cheoth has mothered."

Meanwhile, none other than the Nightmare Egg had started to rock, slowly shifting back and forth in place as the young dragon inside began to stir.

Vaythel hadn't expected the clutch to start so soon, and without a Touching no less! He jolted awake at the first echo of Cheoth's roar and changed into a fresh white robe as fast as he could, the dumbest grin on his face. Hatchings were really something, as he remembered from his last one, and even if you didn't Impress, it was still amazing to watch the dragonets unfurl their wings for the first time and emerge from their shells. He trembled with excitement as he dashed down the corridors to the Hatching Sands, skidding to a halt to wait for some of the other Candidates before entering. Vaythel put on a thin veneer of composure, but it was easy to see that he was excited about this one. Fourteen eggs in this Clutch! He knew that each dragon inside would be something, as he could tell from the eggs that stood--or laid, in the Quarter Horse's case--on the glittering sands that sparkled like a sea of jewels in the heat. Each egg was beautiful, the darker colors splashed with white in many cases, and some creamy tones that reminded Vaythel of klah. The warm browns and sandy tones of the eggs were emphasized by the stark sands below them, creating a stunning visual effect that Vaythel would have to tell his old master about. He was sure that Master Karanhy would write something about it after he told him, and why not give the guy something to do besides scribble down notes and poems by others?

His gaze locked onto one of the eggs, a somewhat smaller one, but still, one that had caught his eye. The Akhal Tekhe egg in all its shining splendor seemed to draw him in with a siren's song, and it was all Vaythel could do not to go in and stand before many others even got here. He couldn't wait for this! Vaythel had no room for doubt right now, and he was sure that even if he didn't Impress this time, he'd had a good chance of it. Maybe he'd stay on as one of the weyr's Harpers? Vaythel would like that, but what he really wanted to do was be a dragonrider. He had come for that, after all, so why not shoot for it instead of Weyrharper? That's not to say that being a Weyrharper wasn't something nice, but really, Vaythel would much prefer the life of a dragonrider. Soaring into the skies on the back of a mighty dragon, flaming Thread out of the skies--now that was what he wanted to do. He went into the Sands, seeing that two others were there already, and was a little surprised to see that the Nightmare egg was already rocking, soon to hatch.

Sen was not hard to find. If there ever lived an anti-enigma, it was her. Unless she was assigned to some specific task, or sleeping, or getting into some sort of trouble with Nasundu, one could easily track her to her natural habitat: the kitchen. She was busy sweet talking one of the bakers for some sweets--all while eating a bowl of berries another cook had handed off to her out of the goodness of their heart-- when the word spread like wildfire from dragon to rider, rider to candidate, candidate to everyone else.

The excitement was almost overwhelming, and she nearly tripped and fell on her face just standing up. The dash down the hall was more of a fast-paced stumble than a smooth run. Somewhere between her room and her previous location, she ran into Nasundu and cried out joyfully, "Nasundu, we have to get ready! They're hatching!"

The duo rushed to get ready, fixing each others robes to look acceptable because they themselves were in too big a rush to worry for their own. Arms linked, they half-walked, half-danced down to the sands, giving the queen a unified bow. What? It was twice as respectful that way!

Trembling from the emotion, now in a frenzy like she'd never been before, Sen took her arm back, but remained at her friends side, the fit of whispers continuing back and forth between the pair. "Hey, I bet the queen is gonna eat somebody by the end of this!"

(Sorry for three posts! XD I'll only do one once the intros are out of the way)

Everyone has someone they don't like. Balin hadn't been around long enough, or tried socializing enough, to have filled that role quite yet. But he had an enemy of his own in advance, and it followed him wherever he went. Not a person, but the curse that was insomnia. He'd been awake for some time now when, suddenly, there was chaos all around him. The disorder commenced unexpectedly, but Balin had braced himself for what was to come the day he'd arrived.

The young man had been pacing, back and forth, wherever he could do so that wouldn't disturb his roommates or anyone else that need focus for whatever reason. He had done things asked of him, and then taken on chores of his own accord, simply in the hopes they would tire him out enough to get some rest. All those efforts were futile in the end. He hadn't remembered the last time he'd been this awake. Nor he could he remember the last time he moved this quickly, and Balin wasn't a slow fellow on a normal day.

After changing into his robes, making sure they looked just right, he hurried to his little brother's living quarters to bark at him to get a move on. Knowing Bachi, the little moron was running in circles. However, he felt foolish when his sibling was nowhere in sight. Hoping to spot him on the sands, Balin rushed to scene, giving a hasty but acceptable bow to the queen before visually scouting the landscape for his brother.

The day was not so exciting for some patrons of the Weyr. Roka had been dreading this day since she caught wind of what had happened. Something was going to go wrong here. Something had to go wrong. Candidates got mauled with Touching, let alone without it. The woman had positioned herself as close as she could, ready and waiting. She stood watching the queen curiously for quite a while, then casting a glance over each and every candidate as they arrived. Very few of them did she recognize by name, but that was fine. She wasn't looking for familiar faces. Rather, she was scouting for those least likely to move out of the way when something went down.

A hand tapped her on the shoulder, and, for a split second, she spared a glance over her shoulder to determine their identity. An amused, soft, somewhat bitter laugh followed. Bitter not because of who stood behind her, but simply in preparation of things to come. "Better stay out of the way, old man."

"I don't plan on getting in no trouble, Roka. Don't worry bout me none." After offering her a sympathetic pat on the same shoulder he'd prodded only seconds ago, Razaphon found his usual spot among the spectators, more eager for this hatching than any other since the last time he'd been on the sands. This one was different, and everyone knew it. Before taking his seat, he waved to Kesslan from afar whenever she arrived; a silent call of 'good luck'.

Alanna had been trying to allow herself some sort of a Nap when the sudden unison of 'GET YOUR ASSES OUT HERE NOW' occured, sending every candidate into a flurry of 'AHHH!' -- Or at least that was as 'sane' of a full thought as Alanna had been able to make. Even she had been swept along with the rest of the girls to go and change and get her butt out to the bowl.

She hadn't even had the time to snark about a certain other-candidate who she had butted heads with only the other day (or the idiot who had touched the eggs. They'd become her favorite things to be bitchy about).

But the real thing that had gotten to her was how freaking IN UNISON everybody was about getting out there.. and not even Alanna was stupid enough to forget to bow to the queen (albeit from a good distance, she didn't want the queen to maul her) before she too had run off to join the rest of the girls.

However, she'd made sure she was standing with nobody behind her. If she'd learned anything by listening to the more experienced candidates (which she had listened to them and paid attention.. she just hadn't made very good friends with the group), it was that the best way to get mauled was to be between a hatchling and it's impressed -- thus, she'd made sure she wouldn't be between point A and point B.

She liked her limbs unscarred a touch much.

When Kyllae heard the call for the hatching, a flurry of emotions presented themselves to her. Excited? Nervous? Kyllae would be lying if she said she wasn’t either. It didn’t matter that she wasn’t allowed to be down on the sands…she was determined that she attempt to make a stands impression. She didn’t expect to be fruitful in her endeavor, but…if she didn’t have hope, she had nothing.

Thanks to her ill thought out actions, she’d made more than a few enemies recently. With no one else to support her, all her strength…it had to come from herself. She needed her hope. Needed her confidence. They were her shield against a newly hostile world. Now more than ever she had to learn to be self-reliant, strong, and to hold her own council. The Weyr wasn’t exactly friendly towards her now. She was well-aware that a great deal of her future hinged on just what happened tonight, or what didn’t.

She had it all planned out. When she heard the call, she was lucky enough to be in her room already. She had a special set of clothes already set out, hidden under her bed. Unlike her usual attire, these were bland, neutral, the least conspicuous articles of clothing she could find. There was even a hat, into which she tucked her hair. Her height still gave her away a little bit, but if she slouched, kept her head down, and stayed with the crowd…it would hard to spot her. Favan said she couldn’t be on the sands, but she’d never specified that she couldn’t watch the hatching.

How quickly it seemed she’d made her way down to the stands, crowding and pushing to find a seat as close to the action as possible. She held her breath, nervous as all get out. She could probably get in a lot of trouble for this…but…Kyllae was never one to care much about trouble. Part of her was actually happy that she wasn’t down on the sands. If there was a mauling, it wouldn’t be her. She was in the stands! Which…still was a poor trade-off. But she would take anything she could get.

Keeping her head low so as to remain inconspicuous, she watched fascinated as none other than the Nightmare Egg began to move. Quite a fabulous beginning, wasn’t it? Oh shards, why did she have to be in the stands? She wanted to be in the sands, it was her right! Damn Favan…

Uuni had just gotten to sleep. She'd been racked by a short bit of insomnia that night, and she had maybe gotten thirty minutes before the loud sounds had ripped into her brain and torn apart her dreams.

At first, she groaned and worked her way farther into the sheets. It took quite a few seconds for her to register just which dragon's call had broken the night silence. Her roommates had already taken off. Was it natural to be that fast? For now, she took her time to get into proper garb.

When she'd finished however, Uuni felt anything but calm. She could already hear her heart drumming in her ears. It might have been beacuse she was still slightly busy from being tired, but she owed it mostly to excitement. It didn't help that quite a few people were rushing by in their robes, and she felt the sudden desire to run as well.

But the sands came soon enough at a quick-walks pace, and she wasn't at all surprised to see quite a lot of people there. Some of them looked like they'd been ready, and others, like her, looked more like they'd just been out of bed - slightly ruffled hair and tired eyes.

Yawning, she scanned the area for anyone she knew. She recognized quite a few people, but no one she really knew yet.

-

Balin's guess wasn't too far off. Bachi was indeed running. He'd gone into a panic when he'd heard the roar and had literally leapt out of bed.

His job with putting on his clothes wasn't the most expert. He was busy trying to fix it on the way there, but he luckily had a roommate that helped him out in that task. Otherwise, the whole thing was liable to fall off in the middle of the Hatching.

Scurrying down the hall, he arrived panting heavily. He saw Senra and grinned. As far as he was concerned, they were on level grounds since they'd gotten lost together.

She seemed occupied, though, so he didn't bother her, instead finding a spot where he could see the eggs hatch well but hopefully still have plenty of moving room just in case.

Veyes had finally dragged himself to bed after a full day of chores and laundry. It wasn't nearly as fun as running across the sands searching for firelizard eggs but chores were chores and candidates had tons of them. Rolling on to the cot he peered around looking for Mal's flit, Aeron just to make sure he didn't lay on the boy or get his toe bite. The flit had a terrible habit but Veyes slowly got used to the little guy. Pulling his clean sheets over him, he sighed and smiled because things always smelled better and seemed cooler when they were fresh.

However, that content feeling didn't last long as Cheoth's roar filled the boy's ears. "What??? Oh shards! They're hatching!" Veyes through the sheets back and and slapped his fee to the floor as he leaped out of bed and raced to his trunk to find his now clean white robe. Pulling his arms through the sleeves , he hoped he wouldn't miss the first eggs so he bolted out the door into the throngs of other boys rushing to the sands.

This time, he knew he had to be very aware of the eggs because there hadn't been any Touching and who knew what would happen when the hatchlings tumbled forth. He took a deep breath as he finally managed to plant his feet on the sands. His eyes widened as he saw that the first egg shaking was the gold! It was a complete surprise because usually the gold had waited at each other hatching.

However, before even moved himself further on to the sands he went over the rules in his own mind. So he bowed deeply to Cheoth and made sure that he was very respectful. Considering she had an awful time with her first clutch, he wasn't taking any chances.

Taking a deep breath, he slowly worked his way around the sands and took a very open space that wasn't too far from the eggs but offered him plenty of room to move about in case one charged. Veyes was determined not to be caught in a tight group this time and...also...he wasn't sick - thankfully. He took this hatching as one that might be a physical test of endurance...because it could be quite dangerous. He didn't know what to expect, but he hoped with all his heart that his partner was in this clutch.

Looking around at all the eggs, he finally got a view of everything that he lay his hopes on; this clutch was filled with earthy tones and a few splotches of colors that made the whole pile look like a painter's pallette. He smiled softly and took another deep breath as his imagination wandered just a little before he settled in and prepared himself to watch the eggs crack one by one.

Limbs shaking with mingled anticipation and nervousness, it took a couple of tries for Rinfala to successfully pull her white Candidate's robe over her head. Shim crooned slightly and fluttered her wings, but remained huddled in 'her' box of sand, standing careful guard over her own clutch. Flashing the flit an approving--albeit hasty--grin, Rinfala trotted out of the barracks to the waiting riders.

Landing upon the hot sands with a faint thud, Rin wasted no time in favoring Cheoth with a deep bow. Her 'chosen spot' wasn't in the back like many--no, she was near the front like last time, but instead of directly in front of the main group, she was off to the side.

Firyal was in the middle of praising Chance for bringing her a hairpin when she noticed the humming in the Weyr. The Hatching. She finished crooning her congratulations to her brown firelizard and then set him on her pillow, saying firmly, "Stay." She reiterated the command for her bronze firelizard, who had been showing off that he already knew the trick she was trying to teach the brown. Numenor knew what she was doing, being plenty old enough to remember previous Hatchings when reminded of them, and he knew what she wanted from him. With a disgruntled mutter he curled up on her pillow, putting a forestaying wing over his young companion as their human pulled a white robe on over her tunic and leggings and then left.

Firyal had no idea that the Hatching would begin with the most important egg of all, and so she did not rush to the sands. She was, of course, eager to be at the Hatching, but she was not eager to take an accidental spill down stairs that would keep her from attending the Hatching at all. If there was a dragon there for her, she would still be there if Firyal was a little bit late to arrive, she told herself philosophically. This was before she reached the Candidates' enterance to the Hatching Grounds and saw that it was the Nightmare Egg rocking.

She made a hasty but deep bow to Cheoth, whose temper had been legendary since the incident with Kyllae touching her still-soft eggs, and then strode onto the sand with her head held high, joining the other girls who clustered near the largest egg on the sands. At the last Hatching she had left invisible and in tears, and the one before had been even more humiliating with the incident on the beach. She was determined to keep her pride for this Hatching, and force some sort of happiness for everyone who Impressed, even if she wasn't among them. She was a gifted liar. Surely she could fool herself if she worked at it.

Raedue jumped in shock at the roar heard throughout the weyr. Wow. He knew dragons got loud, but that loud? WHoooo. He scrambled to get out of the lake and took off running for the candidate barracks he had been shown on the tour of the place when he first got here. Fast as he was, he was one of the first ones there, and managed to change into a white robe and almost uselessly thin sandals. He dodged a few people here and there, and was back out and running for the hatching grounds before the majority of candidates had made it inside to change.

His thoughts were as flighty as a flits at the moment. While his dream was to be one of the few runners that had traveled to every hold, major and minor, on the planet, the thought that maybe he could be a dragon rider was exciting as well. For who didn't secretly want to be a rider? To know that you had the love and companionship of at least one being in the world no matter what you might say and do? To never be alone? In a matter of minutes he was racing into the hatching grounds, slowing himself to a more reasonable pace and bowing to the queen before standing alongside the other cadidates who had made it.

Terisa had started a custom of staying up past sunset to work on her weavings, since it was the only time she seemed able to find for herself. True, there were nights when she simply collapsed on her bed, but on the few days when work hadn't been so difficult, she liked to decompress with her loom. Having set it up in a corner of her tiny room that evening, she wove as quietly as she could to the light of a glow, not wanting to wake up the many other girls sleeping around her. This also meant, however, that when an odd hum started through the Weyr, she heard it and recognized it immediately! Gasping, she dropped her yarn and hopped across the room to the peg where the candidate robes hung. Looking to the rest of the girls, some of them rousing themselves, but some still sleeping, the shy girl bit her lip and stuttered out, "H-hey guys! The eggs!" She couldn't wait to see if they were getting up then, though, since she was just too excited. Straightening the robe as she hurried over to the Hatching Sands, the black- haired girl thanked Faranth that at least with the sun down the hatching sands wouldn't be quite as blistering.

Once she arrived, however, she realized that short of blistering was still fairly hot. Shifting from foot to foot uncomfortably, she joined the growing group of girls who were excitedly chittering about the shaking egg.

Nathail had been in the process of beginning a new day's set of chores when he'd caught wind of the humming. Thanking his luck, though questioning absently if going to stand on the Sands in the heat was any better than simply doing some shoveling, he hurries back up to his room to throw on his Candidate robes and the blasted sandals. "Can't be late, come on!" Of course he was a bit worried still about the fact that without a touching, it could go very wrong, very quickly.. being late was the last thing he wanted to face. Cheoth didn't need any more reasons to be angry at anyone.

Almost skipping with his own excitement, Alirien hurries towards the Sands to join the boys lining up. He spared the gold dragon her deserving bow in his rush, and skids to a halt among the back row of boys. Only then does he look to see what egg is making the slight grating sound against the sand, and his eyes light up as he looks towards the girls. Oh, how exciting! The gold was going to hatch out first? Which girl would Impress to her? Grinning broadly he looks back over at the egg to watch raptly.
