The Meij seems to dictate that we move north once again, so northward bound we are. It's getting colder now, around late autumn, so be prepared for nights bundled up in the wagons and huddling by the fire.

Valelldia hitches up her wagon and prepares to move the newly-ordered caravan away from the beach and north to...wherever the Meij directs her. She'd bought supplies in town for the whole caravan, which would hopefully last them until they found another city further north. Val pats her animal's neck, facing backward toward her gypsy family. All around people are preparing to move out. Just a few moments and they'd be ready. She hops into the wagon's seat and checks the reins.

Zak was glad that they had already left that dratted island, the general feel for the laws had been particularly unfriendly to outsiders and transients, he had made the wagon ready to go hours ago, long before anybody else had been ready, and now after persuading the horses into their harness, and taking his place in line he was sitting on the roof's springy drivers bench with Rana behind him in the lookout's seat.

he drummed his fingers on the rail and bounced in his seat with the springy sprangy noise of rusty iron under reasonable stress as everyone else in the caravan bustled as if they had only just had the idea that something was happening.
"come on," Zak muttered "the hells we waiting for?"
Rana had been told that her job was to watch out for bandits, she was not sure what a bandit was or what they looked like aside from "bad guys in masks" and was thus scrutinizing everything that walked past.

There had been nothing that really worried Heather on the island, in fact she didn't find it that interesting at all and it was probably a good thing as now with Kala being able to do things for herself meant that keeping track of the leopard girl was near impossible.

Heather had allowed Kala to hold the reins of the horses for now and at the moment they were just waiting. Amkia was wandering around the caravan at the moment, he was generally to big to go in the caravan now. His wings were huge and so he spent a lot of time off on his own, flying or just finding somewhere that he could rest while being confortable.

Heather let out a soft sigh as she watched Amkia check the caravan before she went to sit next to Kala. She wasn't about to let Kala lead the caravan without supervision or they might just loose the horses, caravan and possibly their lives. Heather couldn't trust her daughter no matter how much she loved her.

Nervously Rojiza hops into the driving seat of Honeyed Aria. She's to drive it herself, with no direction from Caroline at all. It's all well and good, since she'd gotten a good bit of instruction and practice, taking shifts with her mother in driving their own wagon, Mountain Air, during the long trip down here in the first place. As Vahe hops from her shoulder to the roof of the wagon, she wonders now what to do with Solas, as the last time she'd driven with him he was an absurdly-colored bird. Now an absurdly-colored toddler who can't stay on the seat or catch himself if he were to fall off the jostling wagon. And he'd wiggle out of her lap if she tried to hold him there, and she doesn't trust him alone in the wagon yet...

Caroline's heart swells with pride as she watches Ro jump up onto the aviary wagon in front of her. It's hers now, since the original owner seems to have disappeared. Her little girl is growing up! She's so proud of her for being so responsible and taking care of the wagon, and Solas, and all her Banya. As she hears the clucking sound Val makes to her animals to get them moving, Caroline hops up into her driver's seat. "Awright, ye great lazy beast!" she exclaims, flicking Cornelius' reins gently.

Further back, Baptiste jumps up into the driver's seat and offers a hand to help Tamlin up. They're moving again, and it's just as well, as his gypsy's bones are aching to be on the road. "Is your horse secure?" he asks Tamlin, referring to the long lead he'd made to keep Brid attached to the wagon while still allowing the animal some freedom.

"Ah Brid. She should be fine, she is a smart horse anyway, the food is all here and with winter coming there isn't much to graze on and she knows it." Tamlin replied as she took Baptiste's hand and hopped up into the seat next to him.

She was in high spirits ever since leaving that island and traveling made her all the more so. As they meandered down the trail she passed the time singing songs, playing with Alais, and bantering with Baptiste. There was still a bit of awkwardness in the air since their little tiff, and Tamlin found herself blushing for no reason during their conversations; but she was determined to get over it.

Near the back of the long caravan Tsura sat on the wagon seat and kept a careful eye on Ink and copper. The pair of oxen were well fed, well rested and in good spirits today. Still, it had been a long time since they had traveled with a caravan. While they'd done well while they'd been camped here the young woman was taking no chances, she'd keep a firm eyes on them and her hands tight to the reins at all times at least for the first few days.

Perched contently atop the canvass top wagon Gisli watched the entire caravan with curiosity. The Banya was not above visiting the other gypsies if they might have food to offer.

Berit was for the moment sound asleep curled in a pile of cleaning rags the quail was using as a makeshift nest.

Leshyae

Leshya'e stood up and headed inside Varekai, giving it a once-over, making sure that everything was ready. She checked the cupboards and trunks, assuring that they wouldn't fling open as they journeyed on. Grabbing some twine, she pulled the windows closed and spun the twine around the latches, tying them closed. "All right...everything looks good in here...You ready to move along, Ani?" She tied her hair back and moved out to the driving seat, waiting for her daughter to join her.

Anezka nodded to her mother, "Just having a double check of everything." She finished checking the reins and harness, then patted Alexander neck, "Ready, mate?". With a stomp on the ground and an exaggerated nod, Alexander whinnied and made his readiness known. "Great!...All ready, Mum." Ani climbed up next to her mother, clicked her tongue and snapped the reins, guiding Varekai into it's position in the caravan.

"Soon Skellick...Soon." Veshengo stroked his horses mane. The two of them were antsy to get going, as was usual. But, as was also usual, they were at the back of the caravan. Veshengo pushed his hair out of his eyes and leaned back against his wagon, waiting for the moment when he could pull out into position and start moving.

The wagon train moves almost as swiftly as the river they're following. While Leshy'ae is driving, Ani happens to see something glinting in the river; more than just the sun reflecting off of the water. It'd be a simple matter of hopping off of the wagon and getting it.

Anezka leaned out, looking ahead at the lead wagons, feeling the breeze on her face. She smiled and closed her eyes for just a moment. When she opened them again, a light caught her eye. Thinking it was just the sun through the trees, she leaned back into her seat. But there it was again. She leaned out and looked again. Glancing back at her mother, she gestured with her hand, "Be right back...keep going." She hopped off the wagon and knelt down on the shore, reaching out for the strange shimmering object.

Just as she's about to grasp the shining object, a rock tumbling down the river dislodges it and sends it floating away. Luckily the river isn't terribly swift.

"No...oh no, no, no...get back here!" Ani let out a frustrated grunt, then scrambled after the shining piece of...whatever it was...she didn't know, but she knew she wanted it.

Rana in her role as vigilant animal companion spotted the commotion farther down the caravan as the grass girl splashed in the water and barked helpfully into Zak's ear.
"gods dammit, there's nothing there" said Zak as he steadied the spooked horses.
Rana whined, speckle guy it is very much almost an emergency, and this is boring and I am bored and seriously, emergency. she nosed Zak's elbow and when she was ignored simply sat back down in the shotgun seat and chriped at what was obviously something more interesting than sitting on the wagon going absolutely nowhere.

The river up ahead is about to turn a corner, and there's a nice eddy Ani could trap the shiny in if she were clever.
