Tooki was running across the open field, letting the flowers fly in his wake. He'd been enjoying the sunny day, running to cool, himself with the breeze he made. It was also a good way to get dry after taking a swim in the nearby pond.
He'd slept in this day, having stayed up and watched the stars the night before. A cool swim had been enough to wake him, now the run was just to get him good and awake. He still had to make his way down to the beach to see his father...if he was still there.

 Kaliska, meanwhile, waded carefully in the shallows of the river, cooling off her dark coat in the crisp waters She had a feeling that, once she was finally fully on her own, she'd end up sticking to the forests -- this heat was ridiculous, the suns rays making her spend most of the time trying to find shade.
Suddenly, the sound of approaching hooves made her stand up, shaking water from her lengthening hair as she made to slink away. She had learned, a few times now, that her horns did not exactly make her usually welcomed, a figure named Chantesuta nearly attempting to squash her for being a 'demon', until her adoptive father, to whom the nutjob seemed to hold in high regards, made him back down. Apparently Kalona were often feared, especially since she was an omnivore because of her parentage, but she was too small to defend herself from the more vicious members of her fathers side, and especially too small to defend herself from a 'skinwalker'. It was often times better to be cautious when approached then the blindly allow for another to crash right into you.

Tooki slowed to a trot when he got close to the river. He shook his head, all the way down his body and ending with his tail, flicking sweat off his coat. He moved closer to the river, thinking a nice cool drink would help him make it the rest of the way to the beach.
"Ah water...cool water. Nothing better on a hot day," the stallion muttered to himself, wading a little into the shallow end to get a drink. He blinked, looking at a reflection in the water, then lifted his head to look at the foal slinking away. She was almost dark enough to blend into the shadows by the overhanging trees. "Hello there."
He smiled, then tilted his head seeing a glint near the foal's ears. "What's that on your head?"

Kaliska suddenly slipped deeper into the water, tipping her head up to dunk her upper head into the water, "Ah..." She sighed, knowing she had been caught, rising slightly out of the water and shaking her mane as she continued to creep further away, ready to bolt if she was attacked, "..M..my horns... My... My father was a half-Kalona... I'm a Quarter -- My mother was a Fluttercorn. I take after her, despite... Ah..." She hid behind a tree, using it as a shield between herself and the stallion for safeties sake.

"Horns? Really?" Tooki's eyes widened in surprise. Heinched closer, noticing the foal seemed afraid. "Can I see them? Please? I've never seen a soquili with horns. My mother had tusks...and my father looked like a fish...."
He titled his head, pausing to think. "Kalona...hrmmm...never met one. Or a flutter corn. I haven't met many...even though I travel a lot. Guess most keep to themselves."

There was a long pause before Kaliska slowly came out fro mbehind the tree, "To be honest, I've never seen a Kalona before, either -- my fathers only-half Kalona, but..." She shook her head -- he didn't need to know he had left her mother pregnant without even knowing she was, "I hear they can be really mean, though. Eat mostly meat - I can eat plants and meats because of it, though I don't hunt myself."
Dipping her head to show off the brightly colored, almost metallic horns nestled against her soft blue hair, "see?"

"They're very pretty. Like sea shells from the deepest part of the ocean," Tooki smiled, looking at them. "I've seen a soquili once with feathers, not wings...just feathers. I think the horns are more practical. You can use them for defense...or knocking fruit from trees."
He stepped back to give the foal some space, kneeling down in the water to cool off. "Should you be out alone with out your parents? It's not a bad thing...I started wandering at a young age. But...are there kalona near by?"
The stallion paused, then had a question. "You eat meat? Is it good? I've never thought about it...but I think where my mother came from they might have eaten meat. They aren't kalona or skinwalkers. I prefer apples myself...or some dew covered butter cups."

Kaliska raised an eyebrow, a little confused -- most of the shells she had seen were old or freshwater mulusk shells, either bleached grey or white by time, brown with pink fleshy insides to eat, cooked over the rock-summoned fire of the Native she took shelter with in a pot with other food. She never could think of her horns as being compared so something so drab and dull looking in comparison to her own horns, "I could, but I'm rather small for ny age -- my mother was of flutter decent, so I seem to be small like her kind are... Mostly the horns seem to just make me a target."
Hesitating she looked over her shoulder, "I'm not from this area -- I'm getting old enough to wander more away more, I'm from north of here. I haven't seen any actual Kalona yet -- mostly mixes that are much more friendly, from what I understand."
"I like it -- I prefer fish, rabbit, fruit, and river reeds, especially the roots. They're good, but if you're not built for it, I don't think they'd taste very good."

"so you get picked on because of your horns?" Tooki asked, looking at them again. He shrugged, "They're pretty. Maybe others are jealous because they don't have pretty horns."
"I haven't seen any kalona either," the stallion admitted, looking down at the water. "I've been many places, but never seen one. I went looking for a snow monster once."
Tooki thought about it, "I wonder if my father eats fish...he's a kelpi. He's brought me kelp and sea grass to eat before."

"Kalona are feared... Such as skinwalkers, only not as much." Kaliska smiled slightly, relaxing -- this man seemed to be much more relaxed about her parentage then others. Ignorance, perhaps, but an ignorance she was thankful for.
she cocked her head to the side, silently thinking before finally shivering in a slight shrug, "I've never met a Kelpi before, I wouldn't know."
