“So, WTF did you do to our subforums?”

Long story short: we’ll be having two additional subforums added to the roleplay subforum mix (so I don’t have to worry about it six months from now if things expand a bit) and the “closet under the stairs” subforum is going to become the new announcement subforum.

I’ll be doing most of the “heavy lifting” myself, so don’t worry - I won’t be forcing anyone to help me shove hundreds of threads around AGAIN. The way I see it, if I shove them into a blank subforum and leave it at that, I won’t have to worry about them taking up important space. Guilds no longer lets me leave subforum titles blank, but as long as I don’t touch the ones I have I won’t have to worry about it.

As I finish the main roleplaying subforums, I will be moving them to the top, so that eventually the Ministry will be the first thread, and the rest will be beneath it in their new order, which will be as follows:

Ministry
St Mungo’s
Hogsmeade
Hogwarts
London
(New City)
(New City)
Order
DE
The Rest

There’s been some questions about how everyone else can help, and here’s what I want you guys (Mike and Cassy, since Janine is away) to do if you’re up to it: come up with a new city or town to have its own subforum. I know what I’m doing with one of the subforums, but I want you guys to come up with the other together.

Some stipulations that the Vice Captain and I discussed:
• It must be entirely magical (like Hogsmeade)
• It must have been founded sometime after Voldemort’s fall
• It cannot be larger than Hogsmeade (which has become, like, the wizarding capital), or take in as MUCH business
• You must come up with at least fifteen threads to initially populate it with
• You must write a three to eight paragraph introduction (see the Hogsmeade sticky for an example)
• You must create a header for its sticky (see the Hogsmeade sticky for an example)
• Annnnd I’d like to see an article for the Daily Prophet written on reasons to move there

I ask this because while Hogsmeade still has a lingering reputation for being safe, it really hasn’t been in the past, oh, two years. I thought it would be nice to have a town that is legitimately safe for families. XP

Please keep in mind all of the guild’s threads are given only brief descriptions, and more detailed explanations can be provided through articles or threads in the community subforum. Additionally, because this is an all-wizarding town, you can make neat things like a magic zoo for the kids or a private elementary school created to teach wizarding children before their Hogwarts years.

Questions? Ideas? Are you two up to having it done by July tenth? You can say no if you want, lol.

EDIT: I swear I'll be on later to respond to stuff, guys; I'm just uber busy at the moment. x_x Wanted to get this out there, though, so I know if y'all are interested.

What about a whole town that derives it's business, looks, and names from being a sort of 'tourist' spot? But as well as being family friendly?

Such as having it named 'Pottersville' or 'Scarsburrow/Scarsburough'

And there's like 'The Moody Bar and Inn' 'Dumbledoors Carpentry' 'Granger's Gifts and Souveniers'

XD And the last could be run by a Granger completely unrelated to Hermione Granger.

XD Just like a quaint little town that built itself up on the end of the war, like you said, and one shop decided to name itself after a hero, and then other started to do it, and then they changed the name of the town/named the town after Harry Potter. XD

Visitors/unruly tourists would mostly be regulated/closely watched out for by business people and the towns people. Just a nice, small town where everyone knows each other/cooperates, and it's not really creepy either with it's Hero-named stores and harry Potter bobbleheads- just... cute. Quaint. ^_^

Maybe they have a book store too where lesser-known contributers/associates come in and sign things. xP Hahaha. Just a cute place, is what I'm imagining. Probably no club. O_o *BLASPHEMY*

I don't care what it is as long as it has a zoo. Magical zoo is NEEDED.

But I like the idea of that, Cassy. Like a how themepark shops are named after whatever section they're in and stuff, and the names are really corny but cute at the same time. And the zoo could be Hagrid's Zoo or something. x3

EDIT: and I really wouldn't mind helping to move threads or whatever. o_o

What about 'The Rubeus Hagrid Magical Animal Zoo and Sanctuary'

They couldn't take the MOST dangerous animals, of course, but it'd be a cute stop and magic kids (little ones) could learn about things. 8D And they could take in poor abused/mistreated magical animals too.

I bet Hagrid would love it. <3

That sounds adorable, and pretty realistic too - the wizards in the books seemed to thrive on cute themes, and the Weasley twins made LOADS of money parodying common aspects of their own world.. The Wizarding World is such an interesting culture. So are we, then again, with all those children's books on Obama's dog...

Fred should have set up a branch of WWW there, lawl.

I really like the idea. :3

:3 Yay! biggrin

YES! ANOTHER WWW! biggrin Moar! ^_^

D: Good, I was dreading I'd thought up the same thing as you did. xD HAhaha! >_> Cuz that happens sometimes. :3

Nur. :3

..... there's books on Obama's Dog? O_o

Okay, so far we've got:

Name of Town: Scarsburough

1. The Moody Bar and Inn (Bar and Inn)
2. Dumbledoor's Carpentry and furniture store (For all your housing needs)
3. Granger's Gifts and Souvenirs (From bobbles to shirts to personalized merchandise)
4. The Rubeus Hagrid Magical Animal Zoo and Sanctuary (Non-Profit)
5. The Spectacled Cat (A bar/restaurant)
6. Weasley Wizarding Wheezes (Branch of main WWW stores)
7. Arthur's Muggle Curiosities, Odds and Ends (Selling modern Muggle/Wizarding mixed devices, as well as being a thrift/pawn shop)
8. Siriusly Fine Clothing (Mend your cloaks, robes, and clothes, and make you new ones out of the finest fabrics!)
9. Main St. (The Town's Main street, with the quirkiest shops on either side)
10. The Weasley District (Residential area containing such streets as Ronald St, George Lane, Fred Lane, William Avenue, Percy Rd, Charlie St, Arthur St, Ginerva Rd, and Molly Lane)
11. Snape Memorial park (Bring the kids! Feed the ducks! A small, quaint park featuring the best of the natural scenery as well as a wide variety of natural, harmless magic plants, next to a wide but somewhat shallow river and natural wade pool.)

HAHAHA! biggrin D< O_o Do you like those, Mike/Naz? biggrin Any suggestions, Mike?

I'm trying to think of some other places here in my own small town, that'd be frequented a lot and easily translated into magic...

A grocery store? :3 I know there's more names I should cover. XD

But mostly it can be assumed that all Heroes have some sort of small street or something named after them.

The place isn't so big, and if there's a Weasley district, I'd think it'd take up er... most of the residential area. xD

So name for a Grocery store and a name or the Book Shop.... Hmmm......

Narnarnarnarnarnarnarnarnar.

Nev and Luna... Reg..... hm... Aberforth.... Remus, ..... Tonks.... um....

.... Draco? ..... nuur..... Trying to think of more major players names. xD

*Should go look up seventh book death list*

HEDWIG!

Hedwig's Haven, the local bookstore. XD HAhah!
PostPosted: Sat Jun 20, 2009 10:51 pm

Dobby's Sock Emporium (Smells like freedom! And feet.)
Gregorovitch's Wands Extraordinaire (Not endorsed by Gregorovitch)

Maybe an anti-Deatheater shop or something, too. Like uhmm...

Down with Voldemort (He may be gone but Dark Arts live on)

And should we post them here or actually make the threads? o_o

Hn.... I awnt to make the Weasley District just as oen thread. Think that's doable?

Y'know, isntead of making all the individual weasley street threads. XD Hah! Just for... walking's purposes? To cover all the streets. 3nodding Individual houses of course get their own threads, when needed.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 22, 2009 9:58 pm

Yeah, definitely just make it one thread.

I've moved/deleted about 250 threads in the past seven days. Go me! User Image (Before anyone asks - I only deleted threads with no posts, that had been turned into new threads when I started posting roleplay topics on The Wizarding World.)

I don't know if Reg or Draco would get any recognition - Kat and I's, anyway. Her Reg is technically a felon, and my Draco refuses to apologize for what he did.

Do Neville for sure!

@Mike: Bwa~ I'm a horrible, braindead muffin-face. I'll finish the guide thing. XP

Oh, hey, Cassy - there's been one small policy change. You haven't designed the logo have you? I just need a picture (real life, of a town or building or whatever that could serve as the top header in the Welcome sticky.) I've got an artist making uniform headers for all the roleplaying stickies to draw everything together.

EDIT:
Also, my to-do list and guild information are located here: http://www.gaiaonline.com/journal/journal.php?mode=view&post_id=28232287&u=5052247

GO NAZ!!!!!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin <3

*Gives you a Medal for awesomeness*

^_^

O_o Okay. :3

Neville's Grocers, probably. EXCEPT EVERYONE WHO WORKS THERE IS DRESSED LIKE A HARRY POTTER PERSON. So it's like 'Dumbledore, clean up in aisle nine. Dumbledore, clean up in aisle nine*

And it's this old guy who works in a purple robe and has a long white beard and glasses, or a somewhat trimmed beard, and of course a Neville's grocery store apron over it. x3

biggrin

O_o LOGO? Nuuu. :3

I'm still searching for pictures, so okay! biggrin

Welcome to Scarsburough

Welcome to Scarsburough, reputed to be the most unique wizarding town in all of the U.K!

It was founded a little more then ten years ago and was originally called 'Travershill.' In the beginning the businesses were few and the homes were built by their occupants. More of a pit-stop than any sort of village, it was settled primarily by those who were alarmed by the rapid growth and progress of Hogsmeade. Buildings and houses in 'Travershill' were built neat and quaint, the lone street- now dubbed Main St, and the most bustling part of this small town- was narrow and neatly cobbled.

More people began to trickle into town, buying up bits of land and building houses here and there- usually the ones who found it difficult to purchase in Hogsmaede, and Witches and Wizards who were finding it increasingly uncomfortable to live in the muggle world.

It's never been actually clear who first started theming their business around the Heroes of the war- though it's been rumoured that the Neville's first started having their employees glamour as various War Heroes, since one of their sons somewhat resembles Harry Potter himself- but it has never been confirmed and no record was ever made.

The town of 'Travershill' gradually began to change. The main street widened, shops were moved aside and made more orderly, and the street grew in length. The area where most people found it most suitable to place their homes was organized better as well, and soon the three Randall brothers had been hired by investors to build large, spacious wizarding homes that spanned six long streets. Fully furnished and at a very reasonable price, there came a flood of people to the small town. More businesses sprang up, and it became customary to not only give your name a quirky, hero-themed name, but to mold your business around a certain theme. Shortly after one of the Randall brothers opened his own shop, 'Dumbledoor's Carpentry and Furniture,' the town held a meeting and voted unanimously to change the name of the town to 'Scarsburough,' after Harry Potter himself and referring to where he spent many happy days of his youth.

However Scarsburough hasn't quite managed to expand beyond that initial leap, which pleases the residents as it remains a rather small and quaint tourist town that caters to the residents just as much as it does to curious travelers.

Most shops on the main street are evenly spaced, with wide, bright windows for you to see inside. Scarsburough gives one the feel of living in a fairy tale, and awe at its appearance is often palpable. At night the street lamps light up, shining warmly down on the cobbled street and sidewalks. The Moody Bar and Inn is always brightly lit and welcoming, and strains of music spread up and down the long Main St. every evening.

While during the night you can have your fill of wine and good food, dancing and great company, during the day Scarsburough holds all sorts of delights for witches and wizards of all ages. You can spend your day lazily browsing the shops- why don't you visit Hedwig's Haven? Check out a book, or if it's the right Friday you might just be able to get your favourite book signed. Towards the end of main street and nearer to the Severus Snape Memorial park is the Rubeous Hagrid Magical Animal Zoo and Sanctuary. It's a great place to take the kids, to educate yourself by learning about all the creatures they house, and perhaps to see an exotic creature you've never seen before.

Scarsburough offers delight and fantasy to all who walk its streets, whether you're a resident or just a visitor. It's also family friendly and safe, with the community watching out for itself and keeping the small town secure but welcoming.

1.
Severus Snape Memorial Park

'The Ladies Club of Scarsburough' pushed the vote 42 to 36 in favour of naming the memorial park after the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Severus Snape. Afterwards, everyone agreed anyway that it would have been rather ridiculous to name it 'The Very Long List of People Who Contributed to the War Effort Against the DLV' Memorial park, which received 28 votes, or 'The Guy who threw a rock at the Unnamed Death Eater but May Have just Tripped and Kicked it' Memorial park received 7 votes, and 'The Robert P. Fannyweather' Memorial park received only one vote, by old Robert P. Fannyweather himself, who didn't contribute to the war effort at all and actually had spent the past thirty years hidden one hundred feet below ground in a magical bunker living off of spam, dried peas, and wheat toast.

2.

Main St.
(x)

The town's main street, it holds the most popular, and by far quirkiest shops in all of Scarsburough.

3.

Neville's Grocers
(x)

Run by a family whose last name is Neville, Neville's Grocers seems like your average, but not super sized, grocery store. They have a fresh butchers and baker's section, fresh produce, canned and boxed goods, coffee, candies, and more muggle-like items such as soda and Doritos.

They also have Harry Potter working the cash register, Nymphadora Tonks stocking the shelves, and a man who looks eerily like Albus Dumbledore who alternately bags groceries and mops the floor.

Oh! That's the intercom now!

'Dumbledore, cleanup in aisle six. Dumbledore, cleanup in aisle six. Bring the Lysol and sawdust, please.... '

Scarsburough Trivia:
P. Q. Randall and D. C. Randall, of the Randall Brothers Housing and Construction corporation- along with their other brother, R. J. Randall -helped build many of the houses and buildings in town. All three are Architects and were commissioned to design, build, and furnish a number of ready-to-move-in houses when the town was still in its early stages.

13.
The Moody Bar and Inn

Far from any sort of actual moodiness, the Moody Bar and inn holds an inviting atmosphere, and is quite frequented by locals and tourists alike. Though the sign may sport a painted replica of the famous Auror's eye, the inside is warm and inviting without overwhelming you with tacky themed items- the perfect place to listen to a Quidditch game on the radio, or even watch a game of football or cricket on one of the TV's.

Strictly Non-Smoking, however there's a long porch out back with tables and seating, and most importantly warming spells on it for those colder nights.

14.
Hedwig's Haven Bookstore and Library

With a Scarsburough residential library card you can check out a number of books from the Library, relax at the few small tables or bean bags placed throughout the store, or select a copy of a book of the shelf and buy a brand new or used copy of that title at the counter!

Hedwig's Haven also sells some novelty items, and also sells freshly brewed coffees, teas, espressos and more in the combination gift and coffee shop. No food or drink allowed in the library, however!

Book and autograph signings are on every third Friday, check the board outside to see who we've got this month!

------
EDIT: Whoops. xD Still need one mroe thread, accidentally posted the gift shop twice. :3

GIMME ANOTHER THREAD, MIKE! D<

^_^ Now all there's to do is to write the intro/welcome post for the town and find pictures. :3

If you have time/want to mike, find pictures you think might fit for places and PM them to me or post them here.

D< And I will be like an evil Nazi in my scrutinizing of them. xD

Haha, no, not really. :3 It's hard for me to find pictures, I'm too picky. XD

I'll write up the itnro in a minute though so you've got a better idea of how I've got it pictured. xD

Sort of think of the little town in Cars. But like a cute little disney-ish town with log cabin/wooden stores that're not squished together because Scarsburough isn't so big that they've got to make the buildigns one huge block just to have space.
