It was late into the night and the ever restless mare decided to take a small walk about the moonlit forest. Oathkeeper was fast asleep luckily, or she'd been forced to stay right next to the teepee no matter how she 'couldn't sleep.' Tonight felt---safer though. Plus, she had horns. Maybe they'd be helpful against a possible foe. Though she doubted she would run into something dangerous. There was a light fog drifting about the ground. It seemed more...ominous than dangerous this very night.

The stallion glided through the shrouded forest, his graceful movements causing his shimenawa to rustle. Bestowed by a long-dead priest of his homeland, the braided rice straw rope was charmed to keep ancient spirits at bay- and the tantalizing devils that lay within at rest. A rare smile flitted across his stoic feature: he was due for harae- ritual purification of the tainted soul.
His ears flickered as the sounds of gentle approaching hoof-falls. He turned, ethereal features magnified by the moon's gentle glow.
What have we here?

Ariadne came to a dead hault. Something else was rustling about. She turned her head in all directions quickly, her eyes suddenly blinded by something that looked like pure moonlight. But no, it wasn't moon light. It had a form. Goosebumps flushed her furiously. Was she staring at a ghost?! she paniced. It didn't have a pelt, nor did it resemble a kalona...but it still looked like another Soquili; just glowy. Had to be a ghost she worried. Ari was sure that if she ran it would follow or something, but she was also sure that if she stayed there it would see her anyhow...maybe it was too late and it already HAD seen her. A frightened "What the heck are you?!" escaped her lips at the creature. It was all she could manage at the moment.

He blinked, occult gaze momentarily shrouded in confusion. He smiled in understanding a moment later, though the normally jovial expression was twisted into a virulent sneer when he noted her twisting horns.
Kegare! Impurity, tainted, unholy- a creature of the night, disguised by her charming form and delicate features, the soft hues of her glistening coat and those vibrant (if somewhat frightened at the moment) golden eyes! Purification- rid her of the taint, save the soul, such a beautiful Kami spirit should she be free of such blasphemous-
He stopped, suppressing the welling religious fervor. Did not goats, deer, sheep have horns? Harmless creatures all. Horns, though traditionally a symbol of the underworld, were not always an indication of some internal flaw.
He heaved a gentle sigh, cleansing himself of all rapturous desires to drag the mare to the closest cool stream and give her a brisk dunking.
"I am a Kione - my father's choice, blame me not for such ominous syllables. 'He who comes from Nowhere' indeed." He offered the mare a reassuring nod, giving his name with the ease of long practice. He was still new to the Kawani lands, his rumbling sepulchral voice lilting slightly as though he was speaking his native tongue.

Stepping slightly closer, Ariadne smiled. At least he meant her no harm...or, so it seemed thusfar. Something that was about to kill her wasn't likely to introduce it's name and it's origin even. "You answered your name" she began smartly, "That answers who you are, not what you are." Seeing him a little closer wasn't that much more intimidating. Although he still seemed ghost-like. She was tempted to touch him with a wing---test if he was solid, but she held herself back. Ariadne waited. She didn't bother to introduce herself, but she supposed she'd give her name if he asked.

A sparkle of mirth glinted in his cerulean eyes.
So... this mare was intelligent as well as pretty? Or just snappy, a lover of childish feuding?
He had thought his answer would suffice. After all, did not having a name make him... corporeal? Had he been a denizen of the lower plains, would he not have simply consumed her- not offered his name? He would not even have a name, for all evil is Evil and not individually tagged or labeled; all evil is...
"I am a... Kirin, in your tongue." He quirked one querulous brow, wondering if the winged mare knew of what he spoke.
"Forgive me for my impudence..." he bowed respectfully, his single-pronged horn glinting in the moonlight as his shimmering scales cast a prismatic effect on the nearest tree "... might I have the pleasure of knowing your name?"

"Oh there was no impudence" Ariadne replied, "I do believe asking my name a moment earlier would have caught me off guard." She almost laughed. She wasn't sarcastic, just witty. Wit could be used for fun and laughter OR as a weapon. She prefered the nicer half of it so long as the other soquili she was conversing with was on the same 'nice' page as her. "Pleased to make your acquiantance Kione, I am Ariadne. And thank you for clearing that up. I've heard of Kirin, just hadn't seen one yet" she answered. She was young and inexperianced but was trying not to let on about that.

"I see." He nodded once more, though this was more of a confirmation of her words than a gesture of respect.
Her laughter pleased him- it was warm and kind; he had no ominous suspicions about this mare's intentions, nor did he truly believe she required a brisk dunking... well, maybe a little splash, for all require ritualistic purification at least every few moons, but nothing so urgent that he must force her to the nearest brook.
"The pleasure is all mine." The words seemed somewhat corny to him, but he had been assured by a recent acquaintance that in the Kawani tongue they were no more than a courtesy.
"Hopefully I do not disappoint?" He did not ask out of egotistical pride, rather queried out of a desire to please. Perhaps he should glimmer a bit? Turn his body just so- ah, but the moonlight played its tricks well. He need no aid it.
"Come to admire the forest on this of all nights?" it was an innocent question, but... why, he was out and about because he wished to see the starry sky. Why might this young mare wander the same roads as he?

"No you most definantly do not disappoint" she smiled, "You're as mystical looking as herd leader Oathkeeper described most Kirin to be." At the second question, she looked up a little. "Couldn't sleep" she replied simply. "That's pretty much it." What a boring contribute to the conversation... she thought. She wished she had something a little more interesting than that to have said.
