Chromaggia: The Making of a Blind Mag Costume

So, I'm making a Chromaggia costume, and pulling all the pieces together, and I just thought I'd chronicle it here in case anyone else was interested in such a thing.

The following is a list of the components of the costume....the links next to them are where I got the item, followed by the price.

As you can see, I don't yet have the eyes or the boots. I also haven't done the black tulle train, and haven't put the feathers on a top yet.

---->the HUGE problem with these is that both sites show what is theoretically the same product. As you can see, though, the first link shows a lens similar to the blue pinwheel. the second link shows something I like better. I have to wonder, WHICH IS WHAT THE PRODUCT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE??

The Process Develops....

6-18: Got a quote for contact lens fitting....$59. I think I'll go for it, just need to make an appointment.

6-25: Got boots today from hot topic! They're thigh high, and I can walk in them....however, they look like patent leather...i think they're vinyl or plastic or something...either way, they're shiny. If anyone knows how to get rid of the shine, let me know!

7-16: Discovered that Mod Podge creates a matte finish and am experimenting with it on the boots....so far, it seems like it might work to at least get rid of the shine. I don't think I could ever make them look like leather, but hopefully will make them look better...maybe will post a picture at some point.

8-8: Final decision: If you blot on a solid amount of Mod Podge using a sponge brush (the basic gray kind), it does in fact create a decent matte finish. Will take a while to do the entirety of both boots, but thats ok.

8-18: Posted some pictures!! Yaaay!!

10-15: So it's been a while since I last updated....anyways, last time's update has a sad conclusion: doesn't work. I mean it does, until you put the boots on. Mod Podge, while flexible, does not stretch very much. So, pulling the boots causes it to peel off in places, which just looks bad.
In better news, I bought contacts: white itachi lenses. relatively cheap. I didn't end up getting a fitting, but since I probably won't be wearing them THAT often, it hopefully will not be a problem. They have not yet arrived, but I'll post when they do.
I also have something to sew the feathers to! it's actually a skirt...it has a teeny bit of elastic at the very top so it stays up, but none elsewhere, so I can sew without having to worry about fabric stretch! Once I've done the sewing, I'll take a picture and post it.
