It really depends on the situation. For instance, I'd much rather have a Death Knight or Paladin tank for fights where Multiple mobs need to be tanked. For pure threat gen and the ability to take/mitigate a hell of a beating, I'd rather have a Druid or Warrior as a tank.

DKs have lots of cooldowns and are good for fights like Sarth +3 Drakes, Mimiron, or any boss with a tank-eating encounter/ability. I think they have less TPS than most though.
For (target the weak point for) massive damage I'd pick a DK and for AoEz I'd pick a paladin.

Warriors have one thing that sets us out I think, and that's immediate AoE threat. We aren't as good in the long run like paladins, but Thunder Clap -> Shockwave is a lot of threat quickly. We also make fantastic off-tanks, and great trash tanks especially specced into cleave.
I do think that paladins and DKs are better tanks though, and that druid tanks can be better suited to some encounters. We all have our ups and downs (but paladins and DKs much less so imo).

andycamacho50 WHos better at tanking at raids Paladin or Death Knight My guild has 3 tanks: A druid, a paladin and a death knight. All of them are equally good at tanking and keeping AoE aggro. The only thing we especially need the death knight tank for is for General Vezax, because he can eat up the blows from the increased damage from Surge of Darkness. Yes, we could kite him, but that causes issues with interrupts and we found it works best to zerg-tank him. But in general, the best tank depends on who's playing it.

Dudes DK's cant tank as good as pallys because of the whole shield thing. No shield so less armor=more dmg intake. So pallys all the way. Unless you link a DK armory 80% or more avoidance. Then that is my verdict.

Druids don't have a shield so does that mean they're a horrible tanking class as well? My verdict is that you, sir, have never played a death knight tank.

Agreed on last poster.
It does depend on the player. Ive seen some AWEFUL DK tanks and I've seen some AWEFUL paladin tanks. Ive also seem some awesome examples of both.
DK tanks tend to be better at tanking bosses with large burst damage (ex, Sartharion, Mimiron) and bosses where the damage might not be big but their cooldowns would come in very handy because of a cripple put on healers (ex. General Vezax). Even with death and decay, i trust a pally tank more on adds as a general rule (ex. whelps and elementals on Sarth). But like i said, class doesnt really matter very much so long as the person behind the character isn't a noob.

808Taiga So you guys don't think a Warrior is a good tank then? O_o The OP is asking if Paladin or DK is better. Just because warriors aren't mentioned doesn't mean we think their bad tanks. Just this thread is talking about "paladin vs DK"
