So, we just sat through our High School graduation, and I was wondering how many times your band had to play the dreaded Pomp and Circumstance.
Our band hit a new record this year with 42 times through. Last year it was 27. We really need to do something about the senoir class.

Our high school only has about 230 students per class, so we only had to play it about 4-5 times. The thing I hated the most was playing our recessional music (everyone's favorite march, Stars and Stripes). i wanted to stab myself with my clarinet.

We had to play it about 30 times this year, and next year's senior class is even bigger. In fact, this year's graduating class was small compared to what it usually is. It was only about 900 kids.

My freshman year, not sure how many time we repeated it, but it was a full 35 minutes of playing. I transfered schools for my Sophmore, Junior and Senior years. And the band doesn't play it at my new school. I just graduated, and when it came on I instantly remembered my hatred for Pomp and Circumstance.

Thank goodness we didn't have to play it... The head drum major and I just played a recording through the sound system. It was horrible enough just imagining having to play the thing... *shudders*

We got out of having to play it. It rained really hard the night before graduation, so they moved it from the football field to the local mega church. The whole band wouldn't fit in there, so we just had a brass ensemble. We just had to play some prelude music, and they had the rest of the music on a CD.

I didn't have to play it this year but my band had to play it only a couple times. Five times at the most.

mine wasn't bad. just like....idk really about three times thru. (we don't play while the students' names are being called) but we played a long concert piece beforehand tho. and the priciple decided to start seating the gradsright after that song was done and we barely had enough time to get out the pomp and circumstance music

I don't know how many times the band had to play it. I couldn't hear them, but we had almost 400 people in our class this year, I believe.

It was more than 6. but the music they walked in and out to consisted of; Raiders of the lost arc, Star Wars, Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone and the lord of the rings. it was epic. biggrin

8. Not too bad, bu i almsot stabbed myself with my clarinet. both on purpose and accident. It was a bit windy, so i had to stop my stand from falling, and almsot stabbed my throat with it0.o But, nothing broke, and the reed was fne, so I kept playing. that was about time #7 anyway.

I believe we only had to play it about six times. Which isn't bad, considering we only played about 25 measures of the piece. ^^; I guess it's a good thing that there were less than 200 graduates at my school. Especially since we wouldn't have had room in the gym (due to rain) for them, plus the 70 band members that showed up (and the orchestra bells & xylphone that we dragged into the room).

Did it rain at everyone's graduation?! It waited until after at ours, but it was really windy. As soon as everyone had stormed the field to find their friends and family, it started to sprinkle. About five seconds later it got harder. It was pouring by the time I got homeXD
