Selena trotted through the tall grasses of the forest, night had finally come and she was excited to return to the cave she had discovered the night before on her hike.

It had not been touched by any Soquili before her. I ran far into the heart of the mountain, and it was well hidden. Selena nearly mistook the entrance for a trick of the light at first.

She neared the border between the rocks and the grass and began to climb. The trail upwards was familiar to her.

She was half way up the mountain when she saw another Soquili, not far from her. She smiled, but noticed the mare was preoccupied with something. Selena trotted a little closer.

Then a rabbit ran past her, she quickly ran after it, as her strong legs avoided the rocks.
She caught it by biting the skin behind her neck, as to not hurt it. She had no intention of eating it, she was no skin walker, she just liked the thrill of the chase. She would soon let it go.

She giggled softly as the wind blew, lifting her curly hair and causing the strands to tickle her neck. It was a peaceful night, bnt her muscles ache from the training she received earlier. It was tough, and the newly grown mare harbored thoughts of giving up... But then the promise she made to her beloved family before she left on her journey would ring in the back of her mind, and it had always given her the required strength to carry on.

"I wonder how everyone is doing," She muttered softly to herself, closing her eyes. It was then she heard a sound from behind her; quickly, her muscles tensed and she half turned. To her horror, there was a Soquili chasing after a poor, defenseless rabbit! As the other mare picked up the small creature, Brioso felt her ache and fatigue drain away as she galloped at full speed towards her target.

"Hey! You! Put the rabbit down!" She yelled, what little training she had jumping into play as she focused on the dark colored mare with a scarf around her neck. She dug her hoofs into the ground, displacing some soil to stop a meter in front of the stranger. In a determined voice, she puffed out her chest, "Put it down... Now."

Selena saw the mare running towards her from the corner of her eye. She was young, and obviously not the strongest or vicious of mares.

When the deep blue mare, with me many beautiful markings, stood a meter away from Selena, she spoke.

"Put it down...now."

Selena blinked. And cocked her head with the rabbit still in her teeth, struggling to free itself, its heart racing.

Selena saw that the mare was serious, it amused her slightly, she wasn't even hurting it. No matter.

She placed the rabbit back on the ground, and it wasted no time to run off, scared out of its mind. Now Selena looked at the mare. She was correct with her previous observation. The mare was indeed quite young, thus small. But her legs were strong and she seemed to not realize the fact that she was slightly out matched. Selena was older, and could run faster than most.

Selena smiled at the mare, "Alright, alright, he's down and gone. No need to worry."

Hero wannabe.

Brioso's expression softened a little when she saw the rabbit run off; it must be frightened... The way it ran away reminded her of the time she saved a turtle with a friend, and returned it to the river where it belonged... Only turtles seem to go at a much, much slower speed.

However, thinking back, she didn't see blood on the creature, so the mare in front of her hadn't actually done anything to it. Of course, something might have happened if she hadn't arrived! As she turned to look at the stranger again, Brioso frowned a little; she had to know the truth - her mentor didn't train her to be one to jump to conclusions... After all, she had been hasty to jump right into the situation - a mistake she had to rectify.

"What were you doing with it?" She asked after a short pause, looking expectantly at the dark colored mare. Her muscles were tensed, ready to spring any moment if needed; this time, she won't commit any mistakes.

"The rabbit?" She cocked her head. "I was just chasing it, I meant it no harm if thats what your afraid of, I do it all the time, good exercise. And I would have let it go soon enough anyway." She stated with a shrug as if it was normal. Selena was in many ways, quite different.

She could also see the mare was not quite to believe her. Selena smiled at how the mare was so set on interrogating her.

"I bit the skin right behind its neck, there are few nerve endings there, so it was not hurt. Cougars and lions, and the odd wolf, use the same tactic for carrying their young."

The mare shook her head at the excuse, "Even if it was for exercise, you were scaring it..." Her voice faded away and she looked intently at the other mare before letting out a sigh and relaxing just a little, "Small animals like that can die of shock from fear... Fear of the hunt. I know some carry their young in that manner, but the young are not scared because the one doing it is their mother... Someone familiar."

Sometimes, she can sound older than she really is.

Offering a smile, Brioso relaxed for the most part, although she wasn't letting down her guard just in case, "Sorry for butting in so suddenly, but a friend once taught me that I have to respect nature to be part of it and appreciate it more. From the sights to the smells!" She paused, taking in a deep breath before slowly letting it out, smiling contentedly.

"Lets start again! Uh, Hello! The name's Brioso!" She exclaimed with a smile, giving a nod of acknowledgment.

Selena nodded.

"Its not an excuse, its more of a habit really. As a foal I would run after animals for hours on end."

She smiled. "Its more teasing than harm, thats why I let them go fairly soon. I don't really want to kill them. Im no skinwalker. I would feel quite horrible about it, I do have a conscience."

She could see the mare was still tensed, she respected the fact that she did not trust her right away. Thats how it should be. You can't go on walking the world hoping that everyone you encounter is trust worthy. That they won't harm you. A lesson Selena learned the hardest way.

"I am Selena."

Brioso smiled a little, "To you, it might be mere teasing, but when a creature larger than you chases and then grabs you... Well, its really scary. You might not have the intention to kill them, but it happens. I've seen rabbits die from shock before, so..." She trailed off, looking hopefully at Selena, hoping that the mare got her message.

"Anyway," The mare continued, brightening up, "Selena? If you really want to play with rabbits, you could ask them first." She giggled, throwing Selena an apologetic look, "I know it sounds weird, but if you befriend them first, its possible to play tag with them without scaring the wits out of them! The thing is, they must know you mean them no harm."

"Yes, I know its scary and beyond frightening, like being sucked into a nightmare." She was not talking about the rabbit.

Selena looked the young mare deep in the eyes, she could hear Brian's words ringing in her head. It all comes out of how you act. And how you wish to treat Soquili. She promised him she would try, and try she would. If this mare was to be her first victim or...kindness.. so be it. But she did seem quite odd...

"Befriend a rabbit? Like a familiar? I don't have any familiars..." now she was a little confused. Was that normal? A familiar yes, but just a random animal the runs in front of your nose?

This mare's logic reminded her of another mare she met awhile back. But she specialized in chasing butterfly, not matchmaking friends for Soquili.

She giggled.

There were times when Brioso felt like someone wasn't talking about the present, but something that happened in the past... This was one of those times.

"I don't have any familiars either," Brioso grinned, shaking her head gently before trotting a little closer to Selena, all the while speaking, "In fact, I've never seen anyone with one before, although I've heard of them." She paused, and at the same time, stopped in her tracks. Looking up at the star filled skies, the newly grown mare added, "Although I'm sure with as many Soquilis as stars in the sky, I'll sure I'll meet one... One day."

She looked back down at Selena, "Befriend them as in... Well, convince them to play with you. I heard familiars follow you willingly, but I'm sure creatures who don't want to be familiars won't mind having a larger playmate some times! If they don't want to play with you, well..." She paused, giving a firm nod, "There's always me! I'm currently staying nearby, so I can visit you if you want! And we can play tag under the moon, if you don't mind."

Selena was struck speechless by this mare's actions, words, and behavior. She was obviously young, but she acted as if she was still a foal. She did not seem to understand she was now an adult.

When the mare spoke of meeting a familiar, Selena thought of the little bat she had encountered in a cave not long ago, he seemed to have taken quite a liking to her. How does one even find...or..get...a familiar anyway?

Now she put her attention back to the dark mare, she looked her in the eyes. Selena could tell she was still tensed, which was good.

"I do not find tag very interesting, but if you would like a sparing partner, I am always open."

Now she tensed, showing her strength and strong legs. She was ready to show off.

"And its polite to give your name when the other gives theirs." Another lesson learned from Brain.

{If you have a teepee, we could spar via dice rolling using stats? o.o}

"Really? I used to play tag with my siblings and friends back home," The female replied, blinking at the other mare with a curious expression. She then paused, and chuckled, "I even played tag with some Soquilis I've met on the way here... Tag when you're grown up and tag when you're still a foal isn't that different. Its still fun."

At the challenge, Brioso grinned a little; she was young, but from the foal that was born the smallest and weakest of three, she had grown a lot over time... She blushed a little, "Ah, thanks for the reminder... The name's Brioso."

She took a few steps backwards, her eyes scanning the area and committing every stone and rock to memory. Then, she took a defensive position and despite it looking a little different from what she was taught just a few days ago, the female was able to grasp most of it. The muscles under her skin tensed up as she focused her attention on her target.

Suddenly, her playful and cheerful demeanor faded into one that was more adult - serious, cautious and ready to put her life on the line when needed... A product of Islagiatt training. Although she was taught that her offensive training is more for defensive purposes, the young mare knew that not putting 100% into sparring matches was an insult to her partner.

"I'll explain to any patrolling Islagiatt guards that you're not an enemy," She went into offensive position, "So let's spar without worries."

"My pleasure!" Selena whispered, jumping into the air, propelling herself with the sturdy rock that she had placed her hooves upon. Her strong back legs let loose all the built up energy and the rush of adrenaline kicked in half leap. She had not sparred for a long time. Too long in her opinion. She smoothly flew above the young mare and landed lightly behind her, keeping her balance perfectly. She lifted her leg up quickly and shot it in the direction of Briso's back.

It came as a surprise, for not many mares can leap over mares that are almost their own height. However, she was on the alert and had darted away the moment her opponent had lifted herself into the air - she was rather embarrassed to admit to herself that it was more instinct and reflexes than the result of training, but instincts are what keeps one alive sometimes.

Brioso's heart rate went up, and she felt more alive as she made a quick U-turn, swinging her body with the help of momentum so that her back was no longer facing her opponent. Her hoofs dug deep into the fields to help halt her movements, causing soil and grass to be displaced. Wasting no time at all, Brioso lurched forward towards Selene, her mane and tail flying backwards with the force.

She aimed for the other mare's shoulder, her mouth open and ready to force the other down if the attempt is successful.

Selena's fierce kick ended unsuccessfully, she had only grazed the young mare's back. Not the effect she had wanted. She was more leaning towards spine snapping force. But the fight had only just begun, and she already saw so many opportunities awaiting to be seized. Her first attempt had been a failure, but a smile was plastered on Selena's face. Along with a piercing glare. This young mare looked so much more mature, so much more her age when she was tensed and ready to fight. It made Selena secretly proud to see that the female was not all fun and games. She had a mask.

She saw the mare run at her. Her speed was more than Selena expected, but instincts were strong so she kept her eyes focused on her target. Sel lurched forward as well. Her speed had always been quite a gift. She could run fast. Selena was proud of her strong, fast legs. She used them as often as possible. Why not now?
They clashed. The sound ran through the mountain, dust from the gravel and powdered sand rock flew, some blood and sweat dripped onto the boulders.

Selena's upper lip was cut. But she was years away from being out of the match. She jumped back quickly after the dust had resided, positioning herself for her next attack.
