Description: Unlike last year, the stone platform has been removed, making the entire ring nothing but a sandy ground. A twenty foot wall surrounds the ring to protect the audience in this open ceiling stadium.

Field Measurements:
Ring: 70 yard diameter

Ten Count Boundary: As soon as a fighter enters the bleachers, the count begins. The flying rule remains, as well.

"Ahh," said the samurai, whom sniffed the air on his way through the enterance. "The fresh smell of battle." Kuroha looked out at the sandy battlefield set out in front of them. Two hundred and ten feet of open space, with an open ceiling and all of the fans a fighter could wish for, what could possibly ruin such a righteous day? Oh, possibly a severed limb, an accidental death and the occasional dumb spectator climbing up on top pillars of the arena may do the trick, but the chances of each of those were pretty slim in Kuroha's perspective.

Many spectators seemed to be having a good time, sipping away at customary overpriced beers and munching on those delicious but EXPENSIVE garlic fries they sell at conveniance stands. The frequent sighting of a screwed up child holding a sword, or some sort of prosthetic limb was a kind of sight that could not be explained. So joyous, so amusing, so... ******** up! Kuroha couldn't help but man-giggle at the sight of it all, and how the parents were no better than their own children. This truly was a bonding experience for them, in a twisted, sick way.

Rules and such had been explained in the hall, so no briefing on what he was allowed and not allowed to do was necessary. However, as Kuroha began to observe more of his surroundings, he noticed something odd. He was the only competitor there, which was quite... unusual. The samurai always arrived a few minutes late to his fights, for mental prep time if anything was to be explained and he always found that his opponent was usually waiting with an annoyed or awkward face when he did arrive. In a way, it was comforting to not have to see that annoyed face of an opponent, for once, and maybe even give a judgemental expression of his own! But for now, he'd wait, observing the crowd and watching as they cheered on his enterance. Something told him that it was going to be a looooooong day...

His voice entered the arena even before he did.

"Yaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnnn!!!"

Benjamin had just had a rough but enjoyable night, and he hadn't got the recommended eight hours. So his opponent must forgive him if he was a bit more cranky than usual. And more drowsy too, as he took to a slow waltz rather than a run as he entered the arena.

Ben dressed simply yet stylish, using the classical white on black color scheme. Long black gloves comforted his forearms, white slack adorned his legs, black boots were strapped to his feet, and a black tee stretched across a chest too big for his pecs. The balance between light and dark kept steady by the light cream of his uncovered skin.

His armaments were equally simple: a pair of gauntlets that reached from elbow to knuckles, a spiked buckler held deftly in his left hand and a arming sword rested across his shoulders, kept buoyant by his right. Whether that was the extent of the weapons he had brought to bear had yet to be seen but it was probable that another talent or equipment was hidden up a sleeve.

All that metal clanked softly against his form as he continued his waltz straight towards the stands instead of his opponent. And for a moment the crowd hung silent, surprised and amused at this turn of events. And that silence hung for a moment more as they waited for an explanation.

"...."

Ben raised his hand towards the heaven.

"...."

The silence grew even longer.

"...water..."

Silence was joined by confusion until....

"BENJAMIN ROCKS!"

And one of his few fans tossed the tired contender some water.

Twist. Splash.

With one quick flick of his wrist, both his throat and head were wet forcing Ben back into wakefulness.

"Aaaahhh...."

And then and only then finally Ben would proceed towards his opponent so the fight could begin some time. It seemed that this man was but an after thought to the blond, but then again the peasants always were.

Well, what had walked through the arena enterance wasn't exactly what the old man expected, but it was still a surprise none the less. This man looked drowsy, tired, and a little pale as he walked in, which lead Kuroha to believe he was hindered by some sort of ailment. Though as awkward silence grew, so did the rise in Kuroha's eyebrow. The man had raised his hand to the sky for... well for really no good reason to be honest, until he asked for water of course. Looks like this guy had a few fans out there as well, which meant Kuroha was most likely the underdog of this match. Greaaat...

After Benjamin's dousing of water had been finished, and his approach started, Kuroha tucked his left hand into his Haori, while his right crossed over to grab Kanesada's hilt. A simultaneous pull of each revealed what looked to be a fan in his left hand, while an almost generic looking katana was in his right. Kuroha couldn't help but grin at the thought of his forgetfulness, as his bow would come in great handy right about now. Oh well, he would have to make due with what he had.

And so, the warriors non-chalantly approached Benjamin, obviously intending to cause a severe amount of damage to him in the least of lethal ways possible. All the samurai wanted was a good fight, and hopefully this pale, ill looking man could give it to him. He mouthed the words, "Good Luck", and slowed his pace. He was ready.

A bit under the weather and a bit tired Benjamin was, but sick he was not. And with his mind and body made more alert by the shock of cold water, he was more sure of himself than before. Still a bit off, but enough to dehabilitate himself.

They both moved in towards one another, making small movements to prepare themselves for the battle to come. As his opponent revealed a fan and katana, he responded by bring him sword down from his shoulders and steadying his buckler. His left hand up in a boxer's grip around the single handle of his spiked defense and his right hand (and side) extended forward towards his approaching foe.

The distance closed at a steady pace and finally they stood face to face, so they could size each other up. Ben took note of the fact that he had a few inches on his opponent though he was a bit less stocky. He greeted Kuroha with the aura of arrogance he extended to all his foes, servants and people of lower status than himself.

"Yes, luck is something you will need today."

Cliche but effective. There was a time for niceties, but this was not one of them.

Kuroha swung the fan out in front of his face, and used it to hide it away from Benjamins view, stopping right in his tracks. Kanesada was brought out to his right side in a rythmic fashion, and the blade itself turned toward Benjamin. The wind in the arena immediately picked up in Kurohas surrounding area, which started to focus around the area of the fan. Sand began to revolve around the fans base, and then the paddle itself. Obvious wind force was building up around this makeshift weapon of his, but what could it possibly mean? One spectator looked on, and then another, and more following that, until it seemed that many began to silence themselves in the sheer heat of the moment. Tensions built, suspense filled the air, and somewhere, a fat guy was shitting himself in pure delight in a public stall. Finally, the symbol imprinted on the fan () glowed with a delightfully bright white hue.

As Kuroha held his position, he could only think what was in store for Benjamin, and how Kuroha had also left himself vulnerable in many different ways. Since this ability restrained most of his movement for a few seconds, he had to be 100% on par with his senses in order to defend himself, if this was going to work.

His opponent waved at him with his fan, blowing a bit more than the normal wind and sand said wind picked up in Benjamin's direction. So Ben lifted up his defense a little higher for a moment, to prevent any particles from preventing any blindness or irritation. And then as quick as he brought the buckler up, he brought it back down to see a vastly different sight than he had been seeing a second ago.

Now sand was building around his opponent, tossed around by a swirl of wind that could only be coming from that strange fan. At the moment it wasn't doing anything to him but he figured it he just left it alone, his foe would start sending it his way. So he didn't wait around to see what would happen, he didn't start sitting back and building energy but instead charged forward letting his adrenaline and focus start the slow build of energy within his body as he moved into action.

He took a step forward on his right foot, bending his knees as he lunged towards his opponent to both close the distance and gain force for impact. His target was the opponents fan and the most probably source of mayhem to come in the next few moments. If successful in piercing the fan, he's continue his slice down and to the outside and if not he'd at least find out how tough this fan was. Either way, his eyes, now shining a bright blue would glower at his opponent.

Benjamin came within a foot of hitting his mark before Kuroha reacted to it. It was simple from then on, for Kuroha's plan had worked out even better than he had expected. He though that Benjamin was going to stop when he stopped and just wait. Instead, the young man lunged forward in order to stop what looked to be something that wasn't there. Kuroha smirked, and snapped the fan out forward before the edge came close to piercing its reinforced wooden face. Kuroha yelled aloud,

"裕之の戦争ファン! "
(Hiroyuki's War Fan!")

and out blasted the the built up air pressure in the great gale force of hurricane-like winds, unavoidable at this distance without instant travel. The wall of air and sand turned into what one may call a whipping whirlwind. Now if Benjamin had stayed back, he would've been able to avoid some of the force that this 150+ MPH wall of wind carried. But instead he dashed forward in a deadly quick movement. This meant that the effects of the wind would be full, the speed, force, and whipping power of the sand upon his body. Though the wind and sand would not do any lethal damage, the force of the wall would be more than enough to cause damage upon landing upon (or into) something. This was going to be a new definition of whiplash.

"s**t!"

Nothing else to say when you charged face first into a Tornado fan being wielded by a guy chanting some Japanese mumbo jumbo. Nothing else to do but go along for a bumpy ride and hope that the shield held in front of you helped buffered the damage. So hope he did, as his blade was ripped from his hand by the gale force winds as he was picked off his feet and sent spiraling towards the nearest arena wall. But hoping was not all he did.

To any who could see what was going on, a group that contained only Benjamin and eagle-eyed spectators, his buckler would give a brilliant blue hue was a second before said hue and the energy it foretold was released a second later. Only a second or two was given for energy to build because at 150+ miles per hour impact came quickly, as only a few passed before Ben hit into the wall face first. Face first but not unconscious as one would expect.

For that feat thank that 70 yard distance to far wall, the spinning nature of a gust of wind created by toque involved in snapping the fan, and the burst of energy released from Benji's shield. That energy, a meld of elemental and concussive power would soften up the wall before impact as well as create an opposite force to kill his speed. All in all, it could be said that the energy would break his fall and all him to crash into the wall painfully but with at least some of his whits still with him.

And there he would stay, for a moment, good old Benji stuck in a crater in the wall that resembled more of a sphere than his body giving his opponent a hint that things went a bit differently than planned. Then once that brief moment passed, his body would peel back from the wall and land on the floor. His piercing blue eyes, now lacking their luster, were peeled upward to observe a blurry dot in the distance as he mumbled incoherently to himself. Something along the lines of...

"Why is the sky green?"

With the c**k of an eyebrow, Kuroha put away the fan and chuckled a little. The samurai had been around for quite a long time, and has had more than his fair share of faults when it came to dashing in too early, and he knew very well what to look for. He also knew that there was only one thing you could do after something like that, and that was to get up and try again. No sense in laying down and looking like an idiot, right? And besides, you have a fight to still go through. Best thing to do is to do your very best, and come out of it alive.

"You alright there son?!", yelled Kuroha. Sportsmanship was a big part of his etiquette, and ol' Benji was about to hear. "Y'took a bit of a spill over there my friend!" He wasn't exactly sad that he had hit the wall, since it was one hell of a deabilitating blow all in its own, but it didn't hurt asking if the boy was ok. Kuroha brought his Kanesada up and over, balancing it upong his right shoulder. "I'm not going to be so nice next time kid, so I'll let you gather your bearings just this once."

With those words, Kuroha waited in place, smiling and tapping his sandled foot against the sandy ground. Benjamin had no idea how he was to be getting this deal. Mercy dealings are fun.

Ben shook his head, shaking away the cobwebs or he began to recognize what was going on once more. And surprisingly enough, there was nobody standing over him with a sword or at least headed his way. Most of time when he got the air knocked out of him and a few screws came loose, he came to with someone barring down on him. This change was both strange and mysterious, which made him both thankful and angry at the same time.

Seemed like someone was taking pity on him and pity was something he was not used to receiving but rather doling out. Since the wealthy tended to do that from time to time as a PR measure and out of spite for the lower classes. So to be pitied and thus seen as someone deserving such a base thing as pity, it was a blow to his ego. A blow that had him seething like a pot of water left on the stove for too long.

He rose back to his feet and walked over to his sword, tracing the ring with his head tilted towards his opponent. He listened to his words as he walked to retrieve his sword, taking the words with a grain of salt, those which he heard anyway. Something about being nice and not being nice, something that just added to the fire burning through him. Fire that set his eyes ablaze, glowering a blue that extended even onto the white of his eyes.

"Your patience was not required, I could have done fine without it."

His words came off as a bit of snarl, his upper lip raising and his nose pinching up as he spoke, his blade now in hand but downward and his feet continuing to keep him on a circular path albeit one which now resembled a spiral as it brought him closer and closer with each turn.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 17, 2009 2:32 pm

"Heh," Kuroha smirked. "Ungrateful even after a beating. Looks like I may have to beat a little more sense into the boy." He said to himself, bringing Kanesada into both of his hands, forward of his body. He turned with Benjamin's spiraling aproach, watching every step, every foot that he got closer. Kuroha knew full well that things were on an even playing field at the moment, and that there was nothing but shield, sword and man in this fight, for now at least. He raised his blade higher when Benjamin came closer, nor more than ten feet away. One more step, and Kuroha quick stepped forward three times, raising the blade and allowing it to fall speedily back down again in that period of time. It was his aim to alarm the boy at least.

"KYA!!!!", cried the ronin as his sword made its move.

The blade came down, falling towards Benjamins left shoulder in a controlled slash. Though it was an obvious fact that the warrior was going to dodge or avoid the strike, the chance of it striking the muscle and bone was still there, and in this case possibly severing the limb completely, due to where it was aimed. Let us hope dear old Benji had gained all of his bearings in the time he had been given.

His foe charged, taking a a succession of steps, which held such a fervor and abruptness that caused a momentary pause in Ben's steps. A moment frozen not out of fear but of preparation, as he prepared to meet the force head on instead of trying to avoid it. A flick of his wrist twisted the shield horizontally along its axis so that it was now parallel with the outside of his forearm, which was held at a slant, even as energy was building around and through the piece of metal.

Then as the two handed lash came down like thunder, it would ricochet against his buckler the angle at which the shield was held serving to direct the strike outwards and away from Ben's body. His arm pulled in with the blow to diffuse some of the force even as a wave of energy grew outward from the shield. This wave of energy, a bluish sphere of both electric and concussive force that spread off surface of the buckler, would serve a two-fold purpose. First, the concussive force would repel the sword away from Benjamin, a few feet at most seeing as it was a lower power chaotic energy assault, enough to give Ben some breathing room and open up his opponent who had put all of his arms in one basket. Secondly, the electric aspect would transfer to and travel down the blade even as it was cast off, continuing into his opponent unless otherwise impeded, and give him a low level shock that would cause him to seize up his muscles for but a moment or two.

A moment or two that Benjamin would capitalize on, as he swiveled his body to his left to carve a diagonal slash that aimed to cut a gash into Kuroha's left armpit and dig into all the nerve endings held within.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 18, 2009 8:45 pm

Ho ho ho, it seems things were really starting to heat up in this first round bout between the two warriors. Benjamin seemed all but normal again, in the terms of his senses and was full aware of every opening he had. When his arm raised to intercept the blow, a shock of force would run down the shaft of Kanesada and rumble within Kuroha's hands. A blue flash surged through the mettalic edge of his blade as well, and a bolt of electricity crackled off around the blades edge. It looked like Benjamin had a trick up his sleeve with that special buckler of his, though it would serve him little in this instance. Yes, it is true that a Katana is made of metal, (Iron and Steel to be specific), and that it had a poor but still measurable conductivity in terms of electricity. However, like every Katana out there as well, each hilt is encased within several different materials, ranging from cloths, bamboo reeds, barks, wood and any sort of smooth material that could serve as a safe grip for a noble samurai, or wandering ronin. It is then wrapped in a fine silk, and decorated with symbols and colors of various types. Cram all of these materials around the steel end of the blade and put it in a mans hand, and you've got yourself a non-conductive piece of equipment, since the electricity would not be able to pass through the resistant properties of such a weapon.

Benjamin was on the right track with that, though it was directed in the wrong way, leading to the electric portion of this counters downfall. The shockwave that permeated from the buckler was a completely different story, knocking Kuroha's blade back with about the same amount of speed anf force as he had put into it. When he felt the pull backwards, Kuroha shifted along with it, hopping a step back and to his right, turning as Benjamin lunged further out, and evening out the distance between Benji and he. Benjamins sword narrowly missed its mark, ripping lightly into the fabric of his Haori's left sleeve. A few thousand yen was much less expensive than the loss of a limb, plus it gave Kuroha an opening.

"Jeeze," Kuroha thought to himself, "That was close!!! I think I'd better step it up a notch."

The samurai had narrowly avoided that one, but when he had hopped to his right in order to avoid Benjamin's crippling attack, it left Benjamins entire left side open for attack, and so right after landing on the balls of his feet, Kuroha made a move. He leaned his bodies weight forward, and forced his muscular frame in the direction of Benjamins torso. Kuroha was going to full-on shoulder slam the guy into oblivion, and hopefully knock the wind out of him so that he could clock the kid in the back of the head with a left hook that he'd most likely forget a few seconds afterwards.

There was no lunge, as Benjamin's slash drew power from firm footing and good hip rotation. Therefore there was no big opening on any side only an almost profile torso as Ben's followed through with his missed attack, his sword coming to stop high off to his left.

So when Kuroha dashed back in, there was both ample time and space to drag his weapon back through its previous path and lop his head off. But this was a non-lethal tournament and so Benji opted to turn his blade as he did the above, allowing the flat of his blade to strike Kuroha roughly in the head. Hopefully diverting his off to Ben's right and off track for any sort of tackle.

But that was not all, Benjamin wasn't sure the strike would have the desired effect and so even as he drew back his blade to the right, he brought up his buckler in such away that both arms moved in tandem linked once again by the motion of his hips. His intent? To drive his fist and the buckler held within into his foe's shoulder, the spiky aspect of his spiked buckler digging into flesh and muscle. It would give him some control of his opponent's direction and hopefully this grip in addition to the force of his strike would do what one strike could not and knock Kuroha off course.

In the most painful way possible, of course.

((Sorry for the wait today and the rest of this week, rough week at work. Busy season and all. ))
