The area around the den seemed to be deserted by any of Lucian's family. For one it was quiet, even though it was normally quiet any way considering who their mother was, and second the he hadn't seen any one. With the following observations the cub just figured the den was deserted. Lucianus had no objections for today he just wanted to practice his speech. It was hard to do that around others. Not that the cub didn't do it any how, it was just irritating.
Lucianus stood on a big slab of flat boulder and looked around with his lidded arrogant eyes before he started to speak. The cub imagined the pride all gathered around him, eyes up on him and his mother proud in the back ground. Of course even in his mind her face didn't show she was proud but he imagined feeling that she was.
"Brothers and sisters, " The cub started. He spoke beautifully about this and that, nothing major, just talking like it was important. To a stray ear it might sound important but really he was rambling. Practicing those speaking skills. Speech was an important tool he'd need when he was older and fighting for an important spot in the senate. The cub carried on, his voice soothing and calm, as he spoke.

Amaranta had been happily curled up behind a rock about half way into the den. She was enjoying the same quietness that Lucian was quite in love with. Of course this silence that quite disturbed when Lucian began his absurd speech of his. She slowly got to her feet stretching, quite peeved that he brother had wrecked this time that she was enjoying to herself, it wasn't something she got all that often.
She crept up behind her brother, and just before she reached him shouted "Excuse me but do you mind I WAS trying to relax." She recognized that her brother wouldn't take kindly to being interrupted during his important practice. But she didn't overly care. She was tired of her siblings constantly practicing, she knew that they were just trying to impress their mother, but she felt she didn't have a need to practice, she had another plan for herself, she would slip under the radar to her siblings, but insure her mother saw a different side of her, then when they least expected it she would totally take them all over, and she would be everything their mother hoped for in her heir.

Octavian, normally, wouldn't have moved an inch. Though, since he had been sure no one was around, he nearly jumped out his skin. His tail poofed out and the scruff around his neck stuck straight up giving the effect of a newly dried kitten. He was lucky he hadn't bite down on his tongue with the rambling the cub had been doing on his 'stage'.
"What in the gods name!" The cub turned to Amaranta, his sister. The cub blinked. Truthfully, Lucianus never gave her much thought. She was always around but never had he given her praticular attention. Now , face to face, he wanted to know more about her. After all she was competition.
"Amaranta..." The cubs tone was dry as his fur settled down and his face retained a semi arrogant mask. Still, the mask was edged with his confusion and his curiouosity. "No need to be so uncivil and shout. Now now, hasn't MOTHER taught you better. Was the perfect time to back stab me," The cub gave a coy smile as he got up and circled around her. Amaranta, just why was she staying back. Suspision sprouted in his mind like weeds.

Amaranta was aware that her mother hated her cubs drawing up an notice really, she was aware that she wanted to teach them all she had to teach and that she wanted them, for now to fly under the radar. She really didn't want her cubs to draw attention, she didn't want her plan to be seen by others. "Of course mother has taught me better Lucianus but if you haven't noticed she is no where to be seen."
Amaranta gave her brother a sly smile.... she enjoyed playing coy and leaving things up in the air. "Why is it that you feel a need to practice all the time Lucianus, you think its honestly going to make you good enough to run this pride sometime?" She knew insulting her brother would get his blood boiling, and hopefully draw his questions away from her.

((Lawls. Character fail in my last post X"D been rping with demo to much))
The arrogant mask didn't waver neither did the coy smile planted on the cubs maw. He wasn't interested in playing cub politic's right now, he just wanted to practice his speaking skills. His sister seemed to have another agenda though. Fair enough, he'd play them too he supposed.
"You speak like you already know who is going to run the pride sister," Acid laced his words as he went on, "When one doesn't work hard to obtain what they want.... it would seem one becomes ... whats the word? OH yes, ignorant." With that Lucianus took his seat and just eyed her. His tail twitched in annoyance in a thrashing manner.

Amara giggled under breath as she saw her brother's tail flick in annoyance as much as he was keeping his arrogant mask glued to his face, the tail gave it all away. She gave him a cocky smile she wasn't worried that he thought he was better then her.
"Well Lucianus frankly put some of us don't feel a need to practice to be the best, we just naturally are." she gave him a grin again. She loved to get him going, one of her favorite pastimes. Deciding she was tired of holding a tense position she rolled over on to her back exposing her stomach and stretching. She let out a sigh, and gazed up at her brother.

This was getting on Lucianus's nerves, and the thrashing of his tail showed it. How dare his sister come out of no where and bother him then on top of it insult him. Though, that was Lucianus's view of it. Deep down he knew he helped her stir the pot with his own comments but the cub would never admit to that. Never. Maybe. On a good day perhaps, but not today.
Unlike Octavian, he couldn't just pounce her. He was small for a male and about her size. That tactic just wasn't what nature intended for him, even though right now he really wanted to smack into her. Hard.
Then he realised that he was angry and that wasn't good. Mother always said anger is blinding and caused stupidity. When the enemy was angry they were stupid and right now he was playing into what ever trap Amara wanted him to play into. Even though his mask had yet to shadder, it was clear he was the loser.
"What ever you want to believe," He said and turned his back on her starting off toward the enterance of the cave to see if he could get a few breaths. He was angry, beyond angry, that anyone would think that they were better then him. Of course, one could deduct that being around Atia's little pard, Lucianus was often annoyed on a regular basis. All of Atia's cubs seemed to think they were gods gift, yet, only time would tell. Lucianus was no exception to being part of the twisted little mind set. He was completely guilty.

Amaranta laughed again, it was funny getting under her siblings skin. Particularly Lucianus', it was sometimes harder to do it, but he was one of the few that wouldn't attack her for doing it. She took a deep breath. Taking a step towards her brother's turned back.
"Relax Lucianus, you know how mother things we should control our tempers." She had had her fun and didn't want her brother getting completely bent out of shape. Occasionally he could be one of the fun ones to be around. She wasn't overly sure of how to help her brother calm down without bugging him further.
Atia had away of making all the cubs high strung, but yet expected them to hide their feelings. It was rather difficult some of the time and Amara recognized this. She had begin to get there. She started thinking of it more as something she would do for her self... not doing what her mother wanted, she would just use her mother to get there. "You relaxed yet Lucian? You can practice your speech to me now if you want?" She was trying to relax him and be nice.

Amara could feel that same sadness she could see in her brother's face. It was truely unfortunate they couldn't have a sibling relationship that so many others had. "I was actually trying to be nice.... I guess we can't all be good at everything." She replied to her brother.
Though it was an honest feeling when she first tried to be kind to her brother, it was quickly evaporating as she felt her anger brewing up in her again. Her tail flicked back and forth as she stared at her brother, why had he wrecked one of the few chancess they would probably ever have to make a sibling bond, or more technically a healthy sibling bond.

Guilt and surprise bleed through Lucianus's face. He so badly wanted to believe his sister that for a moment his eyes looked bright and hopeful. Quickly, however, the feelings desolved as he built back up his walls. He could never fully trust his siblings even if he wanted to.
"I'm..." He paused for a moment and shook his head, "I'm going to be honest. Im not normally so ... forward but," He sighed, " If it means anything I really wish that I could believe you. One hundred percent not just put trust in you but believe you." He took a seat and faced her with empty unsure eyes.

Amaranta rolled her eyes, she didn't believe her brother really wanted to be close to anyone, she was sure that he was just trying to get her the back down. He wanted her to let her guard down so that he could be their mother's favorite.
She huffed, she wouldn't be tricked that easily. "Sure Lucian I am sure that's how you feel." She was very sad on the inside that this was always going to be the relationship she would have with her siblings. The only one she was mildly close to was Octavian and well who could say that was a healthy relationship.
"I don't know why I bothered to try, it will always be a competition with you boys wont it?" her eyes were downcast and sad.

Lucianus's empty unsure face turned to stone as she talked. He felt a little foolish now putting what little of a heart he had on his sleeve but it didn't show. He just watched her with orange, stone cold , eyes. Being so cut off from his siblings and even his mother was already doing a toll on him. His heart was already withdrawn and slowly starting to freeze over. Who knew how long before this cub became totally withdrawn from everything. The clock was ticking.
"Your saying its not a competition for you." His voice was flat and matter of fact. Lucian just watched her for a moment wondering if on the inside she had already started to go cold too. Did everyone in this messed up family have such attitude problems? Course, Lucian did not have much room to talk.
Slowly his stone mask melted to his arrogant mask and he went back, awkwardly, to being him self. "Well , sister," He smiled a mild smile that just meant nothing, "I think we can both agree that its a good idea to watch our own backs." The words seemed distant to even him.

"Of course its competition for me dear brother, and its because of the competition I know I will have to keep you in mind." It was a little attempt at paying him a compliment after bothering him so much. She may be competitive and she may want to win but she wasn't completely heartless.... not yet anyways.
" I more then agree that we should watch our backs, never underestimate me because I am a girl brother." Amaranta often used her sex to get her place but when it came to her brothers she never wanted to them to think they were better then her just because they had an extra appendage. She would ensure she would make it fare, after all the heir to the pride would be a male.

Lucianus just gave her a nod and said nothing more. He wasn't sure what he wanted to say back to her and so said nothing. The siblings would never have a normal relation ship and Lucianus knew this. He was well aware that their family was far from normal.
Still, the cub wasn't sure if he completely envied the normal families of the pride... or the world.
Lucianus was pretty sure he would never want his heart to thaw.
