 A lighting marking stallions hooves thumbled around the lands.He was certianly enjoying his life at the moment.Quiet.Peaceful.Thinking back upon his mothers new children,He was going to be a brother.Then he was also hopeing soon he'd be a father of his own children.Thinking upon it all he shook his head."Life goes to fast,only if we could enjoy it while we could."He said quietly to himself. Brian's hooves took him to the forest.Brian wanted to do something different for today,the last time he went into the forest he got caught in the mud.Couldn't get out.He shook his head and laughed at himself.

Selena lay down quietly in the tall, overgrown grass of the forest. She peered above at the thick leaves and branches that turned the sun's rays into dancing shards of light. She began to hum to herself. A tune she had caught a few days ago on the wind, some far off Soquili had been singing it, and it made her calm. She felt the tickling strands of grass stick to her wet body. She had bathed in the cool lake not long ago, and now she needed a nap. She lay her head on her crossed legs and closed her eyes. She continued to hum until dreams swept her mind.

Brian appeared into the forest,He hoped he wouldn't fall into the mud again.Soon he became closer to the tall grass.Brian smiled and laughed at himself.He loved to be happy,always will be.Running as fast as his legs could take him he slowed down seeing a cloth of some sort,and ears sitting in the tall grass.Brian walked over close to the figure and sniffed the hat.Then he jumped back at the sight of a mare.Brian whinnied and was scared.It caught him off guard.

Selena yawned and fluttered her eyes. The sound of another Soquili had awoken her. She looked around to find the owner of the voice and saw the dark stallion. She yawned again and spoke while stretching, "Is it not rude to awaken a lady from her slumber?"
Then she noticed the fear in his eyes. "Whats the matter?" She looked around to see if there were a snakes or rats in the tall grass. But then she realized the truth. She sighed deeply. She knew her luck would run out soon enough.
As a foal, running away from her so called 'home' she had found herself in many different lands, all unknown to her. She had been judged for her dark color and the blood on her face, and loathed by all. Most would run in fear when she tried to ask for food or water. Was he the same as them?
She looked at him and sighed, and began to walk off.

"I'm truely sorry.I noticed that thing on your head and i didn't know what it was,"Brian seen she because upset."Please don't put yourself down,Your not ugly or what other say about you.When i seen that thing i didn't know what it was.It just startled me.Please don't be upset."Brian became very sorry.He didn't know what the thing was that was on her head.

Selena turned a little and cocked her head. "On my head?" She looked up, trying to see if there was a leaf or some little creature asleep on her hat. She saw nothing.
Then it occurred to her that the poor stallion meant the hat. She tried not to giggle, afraid to hurt his feelings, which was strange for her, she usually wouldn't give it a second thought or any extra effort, but this stallion seamed so shy and on the verge of tears.
"Oh, I see, I thought you were afraid of me personally, I tend to get it more than fear of my hat." She could no longer hold it in, she laughed loudly in his face, then blushed, also a first. "Im sorry," then she shook her head, making her hat fall to the ground and revealing more silver curls, "This is a hat, not many Soquili have one, but it is something I wear, just like my handkerchief. There's no need to be afraid, i wear them for a reason, but they don't bite." She smiled at him.

"I just had no clue what that hat thing was.Its called a hat?I've never seen one.I've seen like your hankercheif.But not a hat."He was amazed and excited."What is it like?"He looked at her as she decided to laugh."No need to be sorry.I would have done the same thing.But that hat is just different for me.I've never seen anything like it."

She moved her head to the side and smiled. A true smile. These were rare for her and she expected the recipient to treasure them. I was the kind of smile that was given to foals when they emerged from their baskets, or given to a mate after having a pregnancy announced.
"Some of the two-leggers have hats, Im sure you've seen one." She nudged the hat towards him, flicking her ears, "And you tell me what it feels like."
She picked the hat up with her teeth and placed it on top of his head. She could see he was excited and jumpy, and he would be clapping if he could.
"Im Selena."

Brian became excited.This was a brillant moment for him."I've seen the ones with feathers and they are huge,but nothing like yours."once she put it on his head he jumped back,trying to flick his ears he smiled."Wow,its akward feeling,but couldn't you get use to it?"Brian was very excited,a new friend and he learned something."I'm Brian,Pleasure to meet you."

Selena smiled at his enthusiasm. He was like a foal when you have their favorite treat. She enjoyed his company.
"Pleasure to meet you too," she nodded, "would you like to go on a walk with me through the forest? Im afraid the field would be hard for me, with my dark coat and all," she laughed.

Brian smiled and laughed.He looked up at the black hat.He nodded at her and still looked at the hat."Its different,but it shades your head!"Brian smiled more and looked at her."Sure,I wouldn't mind,I also have a dark coat,no need to be afraid!"

He spine shivered and she winced. She hated those words. She would forever hate them. She glared at the stallion briefly and then stopped herself. He has done nothing wrong, he hasn't hurt me. He seems so nice.
But the shadows seemed nice too...they told me not to fear them.
"Shaddup!" she screamed to herself. Then noticing that she had said it out laud, and the horror returning to the stallion's red eyes she straightened up and quickly apologized. "Im so sorry, I didn't mean to..."
She lowered her head.
"I didn't mean to..."

Brian looked at her and nodded.Then he watched her,she seemed to be fighting with herself,by the look on her face."Are you..."Once she heard her scream...shaddup!..his ears went lean and went to his cheeks.She yelled at him,why?Then she started to become sorry,upset."Are you okay?Why were you yelling?"

She looked up at him then down again, then up again. She bit her lip.
"Im really sorry Brian, its a..." she tried to think of a very convincing cover story, a lie. She was daydreaming. No, no. She had a nightmare and she was reminded of it...No that didn't make sense. She heard voices in her head. Yes, that will ensure her sanity!
She had no choice...
The truth had to be told.
"Brian..Ive never told this to anyone...so I trust you not to either..."

Brian blinked at her and shook his head."Relax..."He watched her.He was conufsed."Whats..."He stoped once she started to speak.He didn't know what to do or say,she seemed to be upset,hurt."What happened,I wont tell a soul."
