Ah! I see you've found my little guide I've decided to make! From reading the title of this thread, you should expect to see various sections dedicated to making a good RP with helpful tips along the side. Before hand, I would like to say that I am NOT an expert on creating RPs, but I have a lot of experience. From looking back on my first RP, I would definitely say I've come a long way... Anyways, I hope you enjoy this little guide, and that it helps you in creating an awesome and successful RP! Sincerely, -Masta Tobiah-

Step 1: The Plot Probably one of the hardest part of making an RP is the Plot. It needs to be descriptive, else it be broad and undefined. It needs to be easy to follow along with, but not a simple Plot itself. It needs to make sense, most importantly. How do you do this? Before you even begin making a new post in Barton Town or in a Guild, take some time before hand to think about it, maybe even jot down a few notes in a notebook. Organize your ideas in some sort of way. When your done, ask yourself these three simple questions: 1. Does it make sense? 2. Is it easy to follow? 3. Would this be a fun/exciting RP to participate in?After that, type it up (if you already didn't) and revise it a little. I usually read over my plot multiple times, making sure I have no spelling or grammar errors, and so it looks good in general. Usually, a good plot is at least one paragraph long. You might choose the 'Ornate' post style to make it look prettyfuls, or the 'Document' style to give it a more olden look. I'll be using one of my plots for an example: Masta Tobiah "Almost 1,000 years ago, the Elemental Gods blessed 8 humans with special gifts; one of them controlled the powerful element of fire, Reion; one with the gentle water ability, Myst; one with the sturdy earth element, Juxt; one with the unpredictable wind, Faynora; one with the malevolent lightning, Raikuu Lei; one with the beautiful light element, Islidan; and, last but not least, one with the sinister dark ability, Onxya. The last was Tobiiahu, and with a pure heart...
She controlled them all.
With their newly obtained gifts, each with their own marks of their element, they each built grand cities for themselves and soon-to-be followers. Within a decade, the sages - as they liked to call themselves - taught new magic users about their element. Although there were many magic users, they were often rare among the single city: any mother or father was proud to have a child with such a gift.
It was often called the Era of Peace.... but, of course, not everyone is good.
An evil man named Cyruo was born. He had an evil heart and extremely powerful dark abilities. He thought that the normal, non-magic-using people should be used as slaves. The sages disagreed and cast him out of all society. 10 years later, Cyruo returned with an army of soldiers consisting of all the elemental abilities. Using the cities' elemental weaknesses, he quickly gained control of them, locating all the normal people and taking them to slave camps. The elemental-users were also imprisoned until they agreed to join Cyruo's dark legion. The Sages could not watch their cities being destroyed and their people enslaved. They called upon their most mightiest of powers and slayed all the armies, dieing from the loss of their energy. The last standing was Tobiiahu, who challenged Cyruo and defeated him, taking her own life as well.
The survivors mourned for the deaths of their leaders. At the same moment, 8 babies were born, each having birth marks that were the same as the fallen leaders.
The gifts were passed on through death to those who are worthy; within 20 years they had new leaders, and as they were to be for thousands of years to follow. And thus was the second Era of Peace...
-------------------------------------------------------
Now, you come in.
10 decades later, the peace is broken once more. A man named Harou - descendant of Cyruo - follows in his footsteps, but with a different approach; he seeks anyone with elemental powers and brings him to his castle to be used as slaves and warriors in his armies. The sages have been reborn, and he seeks them as well. All the Great Elemental Cities lay in ruin from his siege a year before. Now all the magic-users can only take refuge in the normal world....
Will you hide with the humans, escaping the clutches of evil? Or will you fight for the justice you and fellow magic-users deserve? Maybe you will help Harou, the bane of all that is evil in this land and turn on your brethren?
....Its your choice...." (This was actually my first RP's original plot. Definitely not the best, but it could be worst.)<------------------------------------------------------> Since I've given you a few things to do, here's a few things you should avoid: Cliches Cliches are quite common now a days in the RP world, and it is good to be one of the few who actually have an original storyline. The most common I've seen are the Vampire and Werewolf RPs. Unless you actually have an original plot, I'd suggest to stay away from this category. The most common plots often go like this: A person somewhere probably "It is 2056, and Vampires and Werewolves are still in conflict. Humans have recently discovered their existence, and are now setting out on destroying them. Will the Vampires and Werewolves continue fighting, or will they put aside their differences and fight back against the Humans?" Short and Confusing Plots These often annoy me. You come across a title that looks interesting, and BAM! A one sentenced plot, not to mention the laziness in spelling and grammar. These are generally unappealing to most literate RPers. 'Short and Confusing Plots' are, all in all, just an example of how lazy you are (I do understand writer's block, but this is no excuse in my opinion). An example might look like this: Another person somewhere probably "alright u r in a enchanted forest do watever u want, any races accepted" Well, that's some basic information on the Plots. If you like it so far, continue on to the next section! (If you have anything else to add to things to add to the things that should be avoided, give me a quick PM!)

Step 2: The Rules Every RP should have a good set of rules. They all vary, but there are always the basics. For example: 1. I am god of RP, do not disobey me, mortal! 2. Follow the Gaia T.O.S. 3. Keep it PG?? 4. PM me/Post your profiles 5. Have fun! Now, you don't have to have these rules, but they are the most basic and cover most everything that goes on in an RP. Of course, feel free to add some more. Maybe you want the PMs with profiles to be specifically named something? Maybe you allow cursing? Maybe you don't? Do you want the RP to be semi-Literate, or completely Literate? How much do you want everyone to be able to post? This is your time to have complete control over the futile minds of your RPers... twisted That pretty much covers the basics of the Rules...

People, upkeep of the RP, profiles, discipline, choosing profiles, and how to keep it alive. There is also how to keep a plot on track or insert a twist.

Try fixing the url in your signature, and possibly just have the title right there and clickable. TITLE
