Have you ever "Hurt" your Viola? (Dropping it, smashing it, popping a string, etc.?)
  Oh Yeah...
Nope, I could never be so clumsy!
  Uhhh....I don't want to answer that... :D

Has anyone here ever.... "Hurt" their Viola? Hurt as in, dropping it, smashing it against a chair, popping a string, breaking a bridge, etc.? If you have, post the accident you caused here and tell everyone a little bit about what happened!
Thanks Much!

Oh my god, the list goes on...but I'll post the most drastic ones.

~When I first learned how to tune it myself, I was so proud. But once, literally five minutes before a performance, I turned the peg for my A string too far and it snapped. Made a terrible sound...I cried.

~I played so hard the string unraveled xD

~I knocked it against a stand and it went completely out of tune.

Those are the worst. I've had some near-viola-death experiences, but I saved them. I'm so clumsy when it comes to my instrument sometimes...

~ I was taught how to tune my viola, but then before a performance, then it went out of tune while I was playing o_o"

~ I accidentally knocked it off my bed, and it didn't break, just made a dent in it o-o

and more to come xD .

Our teacher always told us to treat our instruments like they were small children, even in like 6th grade, so I've always taken ridiculously good care of it. I get a little OCD sometimes, with cleaning and making sure its not getting all sticky and stuff. Especially now that i have my own viola, I really don't want anything bad to happen to it XD

I was balancing my viola on my leg, when it started to fall over...
The neck hit my stand, and it made two dents on my A string and D string.
It was still in tune though! xd

well one of our 6th graders was carring her viola properly but it was old and it fell apart and that same day we had an orchesrta concert so we gave her a different one but she droppd it and the bridge popped out (we put it bac in) but the first one was also the one myfriend used and our orchestra teacher told me not to tell the others about the dead viola so when opend the case he found it in pieces. We all crackd up lafin xd

Ehehe, um. In 6th grade, I was stupid and put my viola in the trunk upright, and my dad did a hard turn, which sent my viola flying across the trunk. I opend the case, and needless to say, I kinda cried.

Then, in 8th grade, we were practicing outside because he had run out of practice rooms, and the door was right off the main room. The wind blew my music into my face, scaring the crap outta me, and I dropped it onto the concrete. The fingerboard was completely removed from the neck, and two pegs were snapped. I needed a new viola after that one.

9th grade. I'm tuning my instrument, and it's pretty good, or so I thought. My teacher comes to tweak it, and I, trying to fix it before he got to me, snap the string. That time my viola punished me back. The string whiplashed at my hand, and made a nice gash.

On a side note, my friend, who plays violin, did a bad number to hers. We were going down the stairs to get on stage for our concert, and silly her wore high heels with her uniform. She tripped on the stairs and fell right on top of her instrument. Crushed it pretty much. Although, it was slightly funny. My friends and I were all running around like chickens with their heads cut off, screaming for a spare violin, some others were trying to comfort her but crying themselves at the sight of it, and the parents were watching us through a doorway that hadn't quite closed. All the while she was just sitting there, staring at her violin. I think it traumatized her.

I would be traumatized too! Wow, I feel so "out of the club" for not having anything happen to me. Although, hearing some of the results, I can't say that's a bad thing... sweatdrop

I had no idea walking in heels could have such dramatic results... I've never had a problem. I was kind of a dork in the sense that I practiced walking in heels before i ever wore them to events or in public though XD

._____. Well, I have to get a new bow, because my previous one had been completely destroyed, my friends and I were heading out of my school's grounds, I accidentally dropped my bow in the middle of the street, (because we were crossing it and I forgot to stick it in my case).

Inconveniently, there was a car that was driving down the road after we crossed, and ran over my bow gonk . It was really broken up after, what was left of the bow, I picked up, placed in a box in my room, shoved it into the back of my closet, my friends and I paid our respects to it, and let it rest peacefully.

Ouch. We sometimes had to practice outside also...In December, but I live in Florida so it doesn't get very cold...just super windy xp We had to put rocks on our stands and tape down our music *shiver shiver*

Yeah Arizona doesn't get too cold either when we practiced outside. But yeah, I know now to not ever let go of my viola. My dad gave me a good talking to after that incident. I should mention that I won't be getting my own instrument until I can go without an accident for a year. Only three more months to go!! Oh god, please don't break on me!

Whats weird for me is that mine never breaks around me!
During summer, i was practicing my viola, and my grandma called me downstairs, so i put it in the middle of the bed, and when i came back 10 minutes later, my D string broke, and my bridge slid off.
So of course I'm like WTF?!!
Other than that, mines never been broken.
