Pales and Armel walked along a random street of Durem. It was busy like any other day, but not as bad as it could be. As they had both seen much worse. They were walking by one of the shops, neither were hilding the other's hand though the boy stuck close to his guardian and made sure not to allow himself to be seperated. Armel wasn't the shy sort of child, and thus he wasn't afraid to shove someone much taller than him out of his way, while giving them a passing glare.
Every now and again a taller person would seem more stubborn about staying in his way causing the boy to make a last ditch effort to grab onto the untucked tail of Pales' black shirt, which served as a nice break device to make him stop. After a few more times of this, Armel spoke up in frustration.
"Da! Carry me a while, please." The boy looked pitifully up at the man. Though the look wasn't needed as Pales gladly picked Armel up and carried him in his arms.
"There, no problems." Pales smiled at the boy. Armel just sighed and shrugged as Pales continued a long the way for both of them.

Dragonfly was at it again, her sparatic dodging and weaving through the crowd was almost impossible for Lance to keep up to, so he contented himself with merely keeping the woman in his sights. He was tall enough now that he could easily elbow people's hips to move them out of his way, and people tended to stay out of his way anyway, after all, even in Gaia it wasn't everyday one saw a green dragon kid walking around. Every once in awhile, Dragonfly would double back to Lance, and lead the other into a shop, but mostly Lance had some freedom to wander.
Dragonfly wasn't as negligent as she looked, however. She kept the dragon close in her peripheral vision, though the dragon didn't know it. He was still just a toddler after all. But she knew he liked his freedom, and so she was only too happy to let him have it.
A little, at least.

Pales was about as good as watching who or what he walked into as he was about the proper care of vehicle, which was not at all. As it was in that very short order, that as his mind wandered, he managed to bump into Dee and stumble back a bit almost dropping Armel.
Armel decided this was a good time to get down and thus wiggled his way out landing in a crouch and staring up at Pales who was regaining his footing and trying not to fall on his rear end.
Pales didn't have time to apologize because Armel did it for him, he looked up at Dee as he stood up to his full short-ish height, having not yet caught a glance at Lance as he spoke to her, "Sor'y 'bout that miss. Da didn't see ye, an nor did I. Neither o' us were payin' much attention."
Pales dusted himself off and finally looked at the unfortunate one that had the misfortune of bumping into him, "Oh, yeah, sorry didn't mean nothing by it." The man added his own apology, turning red at the cheeks from slight shyness and embarrassment.

Dragonfly couldn't say she was paying too much attention at the time of the collision, either. She had been stealing a glance back at Lance, making sure that the Tale was indeed, still there, only to look forwards again, and walk straight into Pales. She reached out as if to catch the other, but it was more to keep herself on her feet as her balance went from her. She yelped a little, before righting herself, and pulling away quickly, smoothing out her pants.
Her good eye flicked to look at Pales, and then moved to focus on Armel, and she smiled brightly to them both.
"It's no trouble. It was as much my fault. I wasn't paying very much attention, either," she looked back to Pales, unable to keep from blushing at the other's blush.
Lance ambled over to the three, and his crimson gaze looked at them all in turn, before his shook his head a bit, and sighed.
"Mum is a little clumsy sometimes. She's only got one good eye, so it's hard for her to judge distances," Lance explained, trying to be helpful.
Dragonfly's throat constricted at the dragon's honesty, but then again, she couldn't blame him. After all, it was a knight's oath to always be honest...
"Lance speaks the truth, just as he always does," she laughed, though it was a bit of a nervous sound, and she whipped a hand up to rub the back of her head, pulling her hat down slightly, before moving the hand forward to smooth her bangs down over her left eye, her blind one, "Kills depth perception, wouldn't you know,"
She laughed nervously, and Lance raised his eyebrow, looking at her sideways, and wondering what on earth she was acting so- odd for. It wasn't as if he'd said anything that one wouldn't find out after being around her for very long. After all, her walking into walls, or trees, or falling downstairs, or tripping, all made it fairly obvious after a short span of time.

Pales nodded to the woman and then blinked down at the very green and draconic looking boy that spoke up to tell the truth behind woman's 'clumsy'-ness. Though he didn't stare too long feeling it impolite he instead looked at Dee and smiled a bit, "Hey no shame in it right? I have a few flaws of my own." He was trying to alleviate some of the embarrassment the woman must have been feeling of his own, but he knew it was likely that he failed miserably at the attempt.
Armel looked at Lance and he didn't avert his eyes, the ram-horned boy looked positively flummoxed about Lance's outward appearance, but he didn't keep it to himself for long as he suddenly exclaimed, "Gourry! Yer real'y neat lookin'! What is yer name?"
Armel's flummoxed expression had turned into awe after the initial exclaimation of the word 'gourry'. Apparently Armel very much liked the look of the boy as it was so different. The ram-horned boy apparently very much liked different and unique things.

"Nobody is perfect," Dragonfly replied, feeling a little better about Lance's blunt honosty from what Pales said. She blinked at Armel's outburst, and she looked to the child, before looking to Lance, to see what his reaction would be.
Lance blinked back at the other, before replying, "Well. Thank you!"
He'd never been called neat before! Ugly, scaly, green, maybe, but neat? Never!
A grin split across his features, and he bowed slightly to Armel, before introducing himself, "My name is Lance, soon to become Sir Lance when I finish my training,"
He puffed out his chest a bit, before becoming rather shy, and scratching the back of his hand subconciously.
"No one's ever called me neat lookin'" he admitted, staring at his hand, and frowning as he realized that some of his skin was peeling. He cast this fact aside for the moment though, and looked back to Armel. He blinked as he realized that the other had two ram-like- horns. Growing out of his head!
His ears twitched a bit, and he tilted his head, before grinning.
"You're real neat too! Never seen anyone with horns like those! S'real cool!"

Pales offered Dragonfly a friendly smile, and his blush was noticably gone now that he got over what had just happened. He looked over to watch the boys interact after hearing Armel exclaim in shock and seeming to be more unfocused than usual. As if the boy's mind just went all over the map and back again.
"'Oly carp? Y'gonna be a knight? My da tol' me about knights. Wick'd!" Armel seemed to struggle to bring himself under control after finally realizing what he was sounding like, "Oh, a knight, cool." He cleared his throat blushing lightly and a small smile, "What does anyone else know? Ye really are neat lookin', Lance." He apparently didn't hear the name as told by Dragonfly the first time around though Pales seemingly caught it.
Pales laughed a bit, "I'm Pales D'Arcy." The man introduced himself politely, "And he is--" Though before he could finish Armel did it for him
"M'name is Armel D'Arcy. I can introduce m'self, Da." Armel sounded briefly annoyed toward Pales, but he was all to glad to introduce himself to a knight in training, "I wan'a be a blacksmith one day. Looks so neat! Y'get to make stuff and work with yer hands. I wanna be a craftsman in general m'thinks. Mostly blacksmith though." The ram-horned boy explained.
"Glad y'think I'm neat lookin'. The horns get kinda annoyin' sometimes though." Armel said in response to Lances' return compliment.

Lance's tail was swishing excitedly from the other's words, but he paused as the other took a moment to calm himself, and Lance could only grin at this.
"Thanks! It's real nice to hear someone say that, af'er bein' teased so much," he trailed off a little, preferring to change the subject. After all, it wasn't a very happy one.
Dragonfly bit her lip somewhat at Lance's words, and her maternal instincts wanted to reach down, and wrap her arms around the dragon boy. It wasn't fair that Lance was teased because he was different... Dragonfly knew how it felt, too.
She zoned back into the convorsation when Pales introduced himself, and Dragonfly opened her mouth to reply with her name, though she seemed to flounder with her answer, her mouth snapping back shut and a blush spreading across her cheeks.
"I'm Dragonfly," she managed finally, after Armel had introduced himself, "It's very nice to meet the both of you,"
Dragonfly smiled to both, though her gaze didn't seem to want to meet either of theirs.
Lance meanwhile, grinned to Armel, happy with their convorsation.
"Armel's a real neat name!" he exclaimed, grinning broadly, "A blacksmith? Tha's real cool! I read about blacksmith's a'fores. They make real nice stuff- weaponry and shields and swords and gloves and all kinds of stuff! It'd be real neat if you were a blacksmith! Then mum an' I wouldn't have to search all over Durem for stuff, we could just come an' ask you!"

Armel seemed quite sympathetic toward Lance, as he himself was also at times oddly looked at with his combination of ram horns and ears. He was quite strange looking when paired with his human looking parental figure who insisted on taking him most everywhere. He let it go when Lance changed the subject, as he could agree and attest to it wasn't a proper start off when making friends, "Yer welcome, o'course. Yer name is pretty cool. La-aance~.." He pronounced the dragon-boy's name in his own form of brogue, making it roll off his tongue, "Reminds me of a knight m'da read to me about. 'E was knight for place called Camelot!" Armel was quite smart when it came to remembering stories, "Lancelot, I think his name was..." Though he didn't often remember full details like children are apt to do.
Pales watched the boys and then the reaction between mother and son and smiled a bit at Dragonfly when she introduced herself, "Nice to meet you too," he looked thoughtful for a split second before continuing on, "Want to go hang out for a while? It would be a shame to seperate them straight away now that they seem to be talking like old friends."
Armel was still talking, oblivious to his Da's conversation with Dragonfly, "Yah! I'd need ter get apprenticed first though. 'Fraid m'da doesn't know a lot about blacksmithin'." He grinned mildly at the green boy.
"It would be an honor t'make stuff fer a real knight. A great honor indeed." Armel said stroking his chin as if he had a beard there.

"Armel is real cool too," Lance replied, swapping compliment for compliment, ever being the curteous knight that he was, "It reminds me- of something... But I can' seem to put my finger on it,"
He stuck his tongue out of the corner of his mouth, and bit down on it, seemingly hard at thought, trying to figure out just what it was that the other's name spurred to life in his mind. But, for all his trying, he couldn't recall it was, and finally gave up, sighing as he shook his head.
"Maybe I'll 'member it later," he murmered with a shrug.
He blinked as the other spoke about Camelot, and Lance possitively beamed.
"They were REALLY brave! Lancelot, Gawain, and Galahad, and of course.. King Arthur," Lance looked positively awstruck as the name rolled off his tongue, and he swished his tail behind him, pleased at remembering so much.
"I dun remember much about the story- mum showed me a movie, and read me a little of a book, but I think she changed it in'a her own words so I'd understand- it looked real different when I took a look a' it. I couldn't quite get some of it- but it's a real neat story! All o' tha knights of Arthur's table have great, noble stories- but I like King Arthur's the best,"
Lance took a deep breath then, before dropping his head.
"I'm sorry. I ran off in a tangeant,"
Again, he scratched the back of his hand, frowning at how itchy his skin seemed to feel lately. He couldn't say he enjoyed it much... In some places it seemed to be peeling too- but Lance hadn't told Dragonfly that. Not yet, anyway.
Dragonfly beamed at the suggestion, and bounced her head up and down.
"I think that's a wonderful suggestion, Pales. Lance and I are in search of a sword... Lance is so insistant on aquiring a real one these days..." she sighed softly, before looking back to the other, the softest of smiles upon her features, "Although, I suppose it comes with the territory of being the mother of a knight in training,"
Lance was just as oblivious to their convorsation as Armel was, and he was only too happy to fall silent, and listen to what the other had to say about smithing.
"I dunno anything about blacksmithing- but Vincent, my mum's friend is teaching me how to swordfight! I was real lucky to have a mum and a friend of my mum who know so much," he smiled.

Pales chuckled and nodded, "My son is getting more and more insistant on having a proper forge built in the backyard. We have the room for it, but I am not sure he is ready for that much yet.. I do not even have someone for him to apprentice off of yet." he shrugged lightly and seemed thoughtful, "Anyhow, if you want we can accompany you two for a while and I'll treat you guys to a meal. That sound okay?" It was friendly enough, and it had been slowly becoming a tradition of sorts with him. Whoever he met with a child, or no child inevitably got treated to a meal or vice versa sometimes if he didn't offer it himself.
Armel just listened to Lance as he spoke. He had definately hit a good chord with the boy, especially when he came up with the stories of Camelot and what not. Armel had right then decided that Lance was pretty smart even if he seemed to have the occassional memory holes, he had them too on occassions.
"T's quite alrigh'. I don' mind when people go on tangeants too much. They make great conversations!" Armel grinned at older boy and then seemed to study him. The ram-horned by seemed to have a keen sense for what was going on for the most point. The green boy's scales seemed slightly off color, as if he was about to loose skin. What was it called in the books about dragons and lizards? Molting? No it was a bird term...Shedding skin surely but molting seemed far too bird-like.
Armel soon covered up his studying of the dragon-boy with a quick attempt of running back into conversation. He was never too subtle, but he didn't want to be thought all too rude, "What're some of your favorite foods?" Armel asked, inwardly applauding himself for his good sense.

Dragonfly chuckled softly at the thought of Armel tugging on Pales' leg and begging for a forge, before she looked thoughtful at Pales' words of searching for an apprentice.
"I know someone who might be able to help you. He works with the robots in Aekea, welding or repairs or something of the like. I'm not sure what it is, exactly. He's never really gone in depth," she shrugged a little, and smiled sheepishly, before continueing, "But I'd bet he'd know someone who could help you. I warn you though, he's a bit of a... Well. He's a prat, at times,"
She laughed softly, and shook her head a little, "I guess mostly you could say that he's really anti-social. Hard to get him to come out of his shell,"
Lance nodded at what the other said about tangeants, and he grinned widely.
"Indeed they do," Lance replied.
He glanced over to Dragonfly and Pales while Armel examined him, thus not noticing the ram-haired boy's scrutinizing gaze. He overheard snippets of the adults convorsation, and could immediatly guess that Dragonfly was talking about Morian. He couldn't help but frown just a little, still not liking the man very much. Pales on the other hand, Lance had yet to make an opinion about. So far he seemed okay though...
He looked back to Armel as he heard the other's question, and he considered it thoughtfully.
"Mmm... I like a lot of different things. I keep an open mind about food, because you never know whether or not you're going to like something until you've tried it. Mum took us to a greek restaurant awhile ago, and she had me try cala... cala... Calamari, I think it was. Squid. At first it was real weird tasting, but that's just because it was different," Lance said, before pursing his lips and finishing, "I guess what I'm saying is I can't peg a distinct favorite, because I like trying so many different things!"
He grinned then, one of his hands resting on the hilt of his sword, thumbing it subconciously, as if he was making sure it was still there, even though their was no need for it, at the moment. Lance felt that he quite enjoyed Armel's company. Armel seemed like a very interesting person, so far anyway.
"What about you?" he asked.

Pales lifted an eyebrow, how could he talk to someone not exactly social? Perhaps he could ask Dragon-chan to soften up the hermit, and maybe even talk him into helping. Pales himself sometimes stumbled with words and often times wasn't all too convincing either, "I see, I see. Sounds like an interesting fellow." Pales said this casually and was careful not to seem like he was inflicting insult of any sort. It'd be bad to insult someone he had just met.
"Though he seems like my only hope right now. I have no clue as to where else to look. Armel couldn't find an easy interest, heavens no, he had to find the most difficult one." He laughed a bit, and didn't sound bitter at all. More or less he was teasing his son -- within earshot no less. Brave man, brave man indeed.
Armel faintly grinned at the other boy noticing the other boy's reaction, he looked apologetic, "Aye, friend didn't mean t'stare was just observin'. It's how I get to know people best." He tried to smooth over what could potentially have been bad unless explained, and hopefully not be taken as an insult. Though obviously he heard his Da teasing him, which caused a faint glance and a small glare before looking back at Lance again. When Armel looked at Lance a small smile presented itself.
Idly Armel quieted when the boy explained his food favorites and the ram-horned boy nodded a bit, "I find it hard t'want t'try somethin' new sometimes. I oft'n 'ave t'know what it actually is or what is in it 'fore I try it." He admitted with a small sheepish grin.

Dragonfly was thoughtful for several long moments, her mind preoccupied with wondering how she could convince Morian to help someone else. He was more of a selfish kind of guy, and she knew this first hand. However, deep down, Morian was a sweety.. Deep down.
Very, very deep down.
"He pretends to be a grump," Dragonfly laughed, "But once you get to know him, he's a really good guy. I'll be sure to introduce you to him, and of course, I'll help you widdle him down into agreeing to help,"
She winked pleasently with her visible eye, before taking a cautious glance back towards Lance, and Armel, as if she was making sure they were still there. With such a large blind spot, it was sometimes difficult to locate the dragon-child quickly.
Dragonfly grinned at Pales' teasing of his son, and chuckled very softly.
"A knight isn't an easy child to raise either you know!" she laughed "The rule 'don't hit people with pointy objects' kind of goes right out the window, and this 'un here will claim self-defense, or playing," she rolled her eyes a little, though there was still a fond smile upon her features, "Although, that's the only reason Lance really does fight, is if he's backed into a corner and provoked..."
"Diction before battle," Lance said curtly, overhearing his mother's convorastion before turning back to Armel.
He blinked twice, tilting his head, and smiling.
"S'okay Armel. Not a big deal, really. My mom has to give people a good look over 'afores she can judge character, or so she tells me. Vincent says that it's something to do with checking them out, or something, but I dunno,"
Lance shurgged, before laughing as Armel admitted to having a hard time trying new foods.
"Tha's okay too!" he grinned, "My mom's really picky. It's all about being different!"
And oh boy, did Lance know about being different.

Pales nodded a bit to Dee, "Yes, please do. He seems my best answer to my small problem." He smiled at the woman now, "Armel and I'll try not to get too much on his bad side." He chuckled good naturedly and shrugged, "I won't at least, but I can't speak for my son."
Armel spoke up toward his Author now, "I am no trouble." He replied snidely, "I'm the one that t'be the grownup and make you go visit Tyr." Armel added as a final dash of salt to the tall man's wound.
Pales lofted a brow and shrugged, "Touche." He responded and then chuckled with a small blush, "Long story. Anyhow, No child is easy to raise period. Knight, blacksmith, or what have you. They come with quirks no matter how they manifest.."
Armel seemed relieved that Lance didn't take offense at all for the staring and his expression of a wider smile showed it easily enough, "Bein' different is what makes the world go 'round, aye." He agreed with Lance. The small elfish boy was starting to quite enjoy the aquaintence of the draconic boy.
The ram-horned elf went silent a moment before speaking up again, "Maybe one day I c'n be yer personal blacksmith, y'know when yer a knight and I master the way of the forge."
