ok so ive been stressing over trying to get a job. i need one this summer and into next year in order for me to do a few essential things: see Aaron move out go to college ive done all kinds of applicatoins, have 3 more to turn in tomorrow, and to be safe im looking for more. it doesnt help to have my parents hovering over me about it and hounding me on it.
does anyone have any advice as to where i should look and how to get one? things to say to managers, what to wear for interviews, etc?

I feel you love. It's the recession, I've been looking for a job as well. I actually just made an appointment for and interview with Payless Shoe Source! =D <3
Tips? Dress in casual-professional, make sure you shake hands firmly, introduce yourself, and be friendly and obliging.
Have your resume ready before you go in the store, to save yourself the stumbling.
If you need to fill out an application, don't go home, fill it out and come back another day. Sit down at a bench or something and fill it out then and there.
As for where to look, start off in the field you want to be in for your career, and move down from there. (:

Sparkly DO you feel it increases your chances if you craft your resume toward what each particular job requires? Not lying on any of them of coarse but with each job there may be different things about your self that you may highlight or leave out right? As much as that question makes me cringe because I think I already know the answer. XD Also with each job do you think it is important or essential to include and cover letter with your resume?
As a side note there is this one place Ive got my eye on for employment because I know I would learn a ton just being there but I'm thinking about holding off until I can get my website together (which should'nt take too long). I just want to seem tech savy to them seeing as that would be an obvious asset to them (its a print shop that does shirts, websites, advertisement, you name it.) I know I'm not as ready as I could be but I also don't want to wait too long and miss and opportunity for lack of trying. I'm thinking if I don't make their cut initially that perhaps I will just give them up dates now and then until I meet their criteria. I know that I get a little down trodden on my self and as a result I think that shows up in my efforts. Im just hoping that If I show them a "Can Do" additude, that they will have enough faith in taking a chance on me. I'm getting really tired of places saying they require experience. Its like I can understand it would be convenient but I mean the only way people are ever going to get the chance to learn in the first place is if someone gives them a chance initially. Grrrr I think I just have to start using some sort of charisma to sell myself above and beyond what I appear to be worth to their businesses.
I recently applied at Walmart and I actually was denied even a glance because I failed their survey for whatever the reason. I was honest, I did'nt say I was a thief or a violent person. So I have no idea what I did wrong but either way being rejected by Walmart certainly was'nt an empowering experience. This job hunting sucks. Sometimes I feel even too inadequate for McDonalds..how sick is that? lol *shrugg* money is money I suppose.

@Digital: Oh, for sure. I have three different resumes: One all encompassing, one for the fashion area, and one for the restaurant area. Cover letters are another way to provide more exclusive attention to one place of business.
@Kai: Youuuuu lucky b***h.

Resumes are completely crucial. A lot of places don't have applications anymore, they only take reusmes.

Resumes are completely crucial. A lot of places don't have applications anymore, they only take reusmes. Not to mention, most places, even fast food, Do their applications soly online. I'm thinking that a good strategy would be to fill out the the online ap. submit it. Then proceed to interact with the manager, be personable and all that s**t, and let them know that you've already filled out and ap online, then hand them your cover letter and resume directly and make it clear that you are very interested. That sounds like a winning strategy to be, albeit I'm a bit of a novice at job hunting aswell. lol XD
