The weather made Mei frown and twitch. Not only did it remind her of past events, reminiscing made her feel old, it was also unbearably hot even under the shade of the giant sun umbrella Banning had provided her. Her Essentic bodyguard sat not too far from her feet relaxing in a miniature pool of ice. If it hadn’t been for Kyru, Mei would probably have forgotten that she promised a day out of her lab for him. She eyed him wearily but he paid her no heed. Well, he does deserve a vacation since he somehow managed to save her once again from her hobby, making armored robots whom conventionally turn evil.
Mei sighed and sat back in her chair staring at the surrounding garden. She had pitched her spot near the entrance of the manor and been enjoying the last hour starring blankly at the sky. Banning was too busy to join her today, apparently business always comes before leisure to that man, and the rest of the staff were busy tending to the house among other things. Jonathan was the only one who even bothered to drop by with a hello, but only to bring her two glasses of lemon-aid and ice cubes. She took a small sip and sighed uncertainly. Taking days off wasn't really in her nature as she would prefer being cooped up in her heavenly lab.
"Are you done yet? I think I'm ready to leave." No response. The little dragon seemed rather cozy and was drifting off into dreamland. Mei glared at him as she gulped down half the glass and began chewing on the little ice blocks, a little annoyed at the situation. She took out her sketch pad of ideas and a pencil but the weather made her uncomfortable and drained her creative juices. Another sigh escaped from her lips.

Ellandra was relieved when she finally came in sight of the manor; it was a hot day today and she'd travelled a ridiculously long distance to get here. It was tiring, even with frequent stops to rest and get something to drink. Still, it was worth the trip to make sure that Rhian was really doing okay. She worried about the little flutterby - who was currently in her travel-basket yet again - and how she was doing, since she spent so much time cooped up in the vardo. Sure, there had been playdates and days out, and she was making friends, but, well . . .
The Essentic was basically her child, and what mother doesn't worry about their little one? At the very least, she should be able to put her worries about Rhian's development to rest soon. . . . and the butterfly should be able to stretch her wings soon, as well.
"Are we there now, Ellandra?" came a quiet question from the bread-basket, and the brunette nodded distractedly in response.
"Almost, flutterby, almost."
It took another few minutes, but finally she was inside the manor grounds. . . now to find the person who would be able to help her - oh, wait, was that her over there under that umbrella? She thought so, she vaguely remembered her face from the ball. Now. . . . how to approach this vaguely-recognized stranger. . . "Um... e-excuse me?
Well....... perhaps something more direct would have been better, but that was all Ellandra could think of to say.

Mei stared up blankly at the girl as she walked towards her. Even though she looked familiar, her name doesn’t pop into her head and that meant that they were probably never introduced. Was there a worker who wasn’t pretending to be busy indoors? Not likely. Her outfit was also a bit impratical for work and on top of that, the girl seemed like she had just walked for miles. It took another moment for her to regain her voice. ”Erm…yes?” She pushed her second glass of cold drink towards the girl. ”You look like you could use this more than me.”
The sudden introduction of an unfamiliar sound woke Kyru up. He stirred in his in his icy bed and lifted his head to stare at the newcomer uncertainly. It took him another second to get to his wing and shake into working condition, his half open ruby eyes never leaving their target. With a few flaps, the Essentic was up in the air and examining her more closely to determine if she was a threat. ”Eh…hehe,” Mei grabbed his tail and pulled him back onto the table. She knew his habit of examining and acting like a gangster towards new people but still, she wasn’t happy that he was acting this way towards a defenseless girl.
"Come on, settle down," she muttered under her breath.

Ellandra blinked as the little dragon proto inspected her, nodding politely to .... Dr. Lecter, wasn't it? - but not saying or doing anything more until Kyru had been safely moved out of range. Then, at last, she finally spoke. "Do I meet with your approval, sir?" She asked the Essentic first, before turning to regard his owner at last. "I'm sorry to bother you, especially on a day you're relaxing... but I was wondering -" Ellandra got no futher before there was a flurry of fluttering and Rhian exploded from the basket, unable to keep still for any longer.
"Hello!" the butterfly chirped to the human, before her attention turned to the Essentic on the table. "Essentic, hello! I'm Rhian!" she greeted, ever the cheerful flutterby, and flicked her antennae around, both in greeting and to help her get a feel for her owner-mother and her current companions' moods.
Now it was Ellandra's turn to be embarrassed by her Essentic. "Rhian, flutterby...." she started to say, and then gave up, turning to Dr. Lecter again with a shrug and an embaarrassed flush, along with a 'what can you do'? expression.

Kyru seemed a little bored of interacting with another human. Afterall, it was like he could just randomly strick up a conversation. To show his semi-approval, he backed of and sat down quietly on the table starring at her with a bit less of an aggressive attitude. “No problem, I was getting a bit bored anyway” Resisting the urge to pout. She had expected at least someone to join her but it seemed her angry outbreak the day before had scared most of them away. Maybe she was getting spoiled with the man’s wealth, exactly what she didn’t want to happen. Mei made herself a mental note to use less money. ”So what’s your name and why are you here anyway?”
What was that? It seemed something giant popped out of the basket, startling Mei. Kyru wasn’t moved at all because he trained himself well after his previous embarassment. An uncomfortable grin appeared on her face, ” Could I request that she doesn’t do that in the future.”
The slate blue Essentic approached the butterfly creature and eyed her carefully. When he nozzled her antennae’s, his eyes lit up and he rubbed them some more with a rather silly grin, ”Kyuuuuuu.” Ah. Mei’s eyes popped out, what in the world was happening? Did the sky fall? It was something that had never happen since he emerged. ”Come on, stop bothering the guests,” the girl attempted with all of her strength to pull him away but he wouldn’t budge. ”Wha-what’s going on? Hey! Stop, I said stop! Come on!”

Ellandra sighed. "I've tried to get her to be more patient, but it doesn't really work," she said, shrugging a little. "I can't blame her, really, she's cooped up so often as it is -" hurriedly, she cut herself off and smiled with a nervous blush. "I - I'm sorry, I'm Ellandra Grady, and the flutterby here is Rhian. . .. and..... I take it he doesn't normally act this way?" the brunette said, as she watched the dragon proto..... snuggle? with Rhian's antennae, blinking and more than a bit curious.
As for rhian, she was more than happy to flick the other Essentic with her antennae and let him play with them. "I like you, you're very nice!"

Mei glared at them with a glint of accusation in her eyes, "No, he hasn’t. You didn’t do anything funny to him, did you? She knew the question seemed almost preposterous but she still felt it was in her right to ask. It wasn't in Kyru’s character to be so friendly with anyone except her especially only after a few seconds. The only thing that she could imagine was either drugs or magic but drugs didn’t affect him very much from past experiences and the second had never been tried. A sudden and complete change in character just didn’t seem possible. "Please change him back if you did!"
It wasn't in Mei's character to worry over her little bodyguard as he never provided a case but there always seemed to be a first time for the good and the bad. Although his smiling face touched her deeply, it also broke her heart in a mother letting go of her child way. Would he really choose another Essentic over her? She felt a bit lonely somewhere deep inside her. Drowning in self pity wasn't very much like her either, there were only a few times in her life that she could remember feeling so down. "I'm Mei Lecter, you can call me Mei...and that's Kyru."
The little dragon, on the other hand, was having the time of his life. For some reason, Kyru feels as though he's never found anything quite as intriguing and he couldn't help himself despite all his senses telling him to hold caution. But they glow, was a quiet voice saying somewhere in his head. The little end bulbs do seem to glow, even in the bright afternoon sun. "Nyaaa" He nuzzled the ends some more playfully.

"I would if I had done anything. . . Mei," Ellandra said, uncertainty coloring her tone both from the slight accusation in the doctor's voice and from the sheer oddity of yet another near-stranger wanting her to address them by first name. No-one likes being accused of something they hadn't done, after all, and Ellandra just wasn't the type of person to be immediately comfortable with a first-name basis. "It's.... nice to meet you, though I'm afraid I have no more idea of what's going on than you do," she added hesitantly.
Rhian, however, wasn't bothered in the least and was greatly enjoying herself. "So your name is Kyru? Kyru-ru," she said, repeating herself and adding on an extra syllable as she flicked her antennae around. "Kyru-ru is nice; very protective, which is helpful! I'm Rhian, I don't protect but I do help! You like my antennae, Kyru-ru?" The butterfly proto didn't know exactly what abotu her antennae was so fascinating, but if it helped her make a new friend, it could have been anything and she'd be happy.

Could it be magic…was he really that bored at the labs? Did I keep him inside so long that his brain fried? What if he was actually hurt during the last fight? Did he drink something funny? It must be my fault! The horror dawned on her. How could she even think of blaming her own fault on a complete stranger? It must have been something she had done. Mei placed her hands on both sides of her cheeks resembling grimly of The Scream painting. What had she done to her poor friend? The girl slumped down on her knees. Hold yourself together, you’re in front of a guest.
The girl smiled to the best of her ability, resisting the urge to slap some sense back into herself. ”I’m sorry to have said something like before, I wasn’t thinking,” well, more like having a mental breakdown ”But everything should be fine, yes, fine.” The words were more for convincing herself. Yes, Kyru’s happy, there’s nothing wrong with him. Right, right… ”I’m glad you decided to visit today, you still haven’t mentioned the reason.”
Kyru-ru? The blue Essentic wondered as he cocked his head sideways. All he could assume is that she was referring to him. And this strange creature was sprouting Mei speech, was it a Mei? Nothing was adding up. But she has glowies! said the little voice. Well, guess nothing else really matters besides the fact that the thing was cool. He gave her a thumbs up. Then proceeded to grab the pool of ice from the ground and carried it onto the table. The wooden frame creaked a bit under the pressure. He grabbed a small piece of ice and held it up to her with a grin. Cool

Ellandra blushed to the tips of her ears from embarrassment. "I didn't?? Oh, I'm so sorry - really, I was just wanting to make sure that Rhian's growth is coming along all right; as you can see she's rather difficult to conceal, so she has to stay in Faolan and my vardo except when we can take her out...." The brunette paused, realizing she was rambling a bit, and regathered her thoughts before continuing, "I'm just worried that being cooped up so much hasn't been good for her. . . . I might just be a bit paranoid, though."
Well that was an admission that needed to be said, even though it was embarrassing. It was true, though - Ellandra had always leaned towards worrying overmuch, it didn't help that she saw Rhian as her child and companion; so she worried like a mother hen over the butterfly and knew it - but would probably never stop regardless of how useless such worrying really was.
Rhian hummed a happy little tune, just slightly off-key but more the equivalent of a giggle than anything else. "Yes, Kyru-ru," she said, easily interpreting the wondering feelings and body language of the draconic proto. "Like sibling Zi is Zi instead of Zi..a......zan and Aoi-flower is Aoi-flower and not just Aoi, and Orphe-us is Orphy! Kyru-ru is more fun to say, that's all; I can stop if you want," the butterfly said, not mentioning that even if the other Essentic asked her to stop, she'd probably still call him "Kyru-ru" in her thoughts, at least. Fluttering over the the pool of ice, Rhian inspected the piece held out to her and flicked her antennae again. "Oooh, cool-cold! I like it! Is this something you like a lot, Kyru-ru?"

Mei, still on her knees, felt like a complete drama queen. While this girl came all the way here to find help about her Essentic, the expert was crazy and upset about her own problems. Her face dropped to an ugly twitch. Who’s heard of doctors dishing out their own problems to their patients? Act professional, Mei, professional. She got to her feet gracefully, almost missing Elle’s words until she her Kyru hiss. Maybe he wasn’t broken after all because the little guy was apparently annoyed with something in the girl’s sentence. She celebrated quietly.
The girl rewind the dialogue in her head and figured out why. ”Faolan, as in that guy at Farstep’s fortune booth with the funny Essentic that shifted into an alter because Kyru…” The little dragon put a well placed paw over her mouth. Sometimes she just says too much. ”Are you by chance the wife he talked about?” That would explain the clothing and among other things. ”And I could give Rhian a quick glance but she looks perfectly healthy to me.”
After the short angry outburst, Kyru went back to playing with Rhian. Maybe it’s best to stay of the Mei conversations since they seem to make him annoyed quite often after all. He didn’t want to think about his last visit with that weird dress thing, it doesn’t deserve to be called a Mei, and his weird colored creature that turned big. It seems like the Pretty wasn’t afraid of him though, which was uncommon since almost everyone was afraid of him a bit, even Mei. ”Kekekeke” Rhian’s little name and ice cube outburst amused the blue proto and he nodded his head. He put the piece in his mouth and made semi wincing face until the whole thing melted smoothly in his mouth. The cool water still tingled a bit. Then he picked up another ice cube and held it towards Rhian.

Ellandra nodded, blinking as the doctor's words translated into her head. "Yes, the very same . . . and so that's how come Zia grew when it did. . . I had been wondering," she said thoughtfully, noticing Kyru's growl and accompanying silencing of his owner - hmm, obviously that incident had gone anything but smoothly. not that anything ever really did go as it should with Faolan. Somehow it worked out anyway, though, for the most part. At her comment about Rhian's health, ellandra smiled a little. "I would appreciate it. . . I'm probably worrying too much, I know."
Rhian hummed a happy tune again and took the ice-cube, trying to mimic Kyru in eating it but accidentally swallowing it before it melted - and half-freezing her throat because of it. "COOOOLD!" She squealed, then flicked her antennae around. "More please! Kyru-ru? More cool-cold?" It seemed the butterfly proto was having a great deal of fun with the ice - and er new playmate.

Really? So this was the guy's wife. Her surprise showed that she doesn't hit the topic on the the target very often. "Kyru's been training himself after that visit. You see, Zia startled him quite a bit and stuff happens," Mei said while mulling over how that alter with a big mouth could possibly get along with others to be able to put up and live with another Essentic. Talking about one thing and pondering over another had always been one of her prized abilities. "From there, he trained himself quite hard to not flinch in surprising circumstances. His improving, at least now he's not getting hit by the objects and can dodge them...could you by change tell me how well Zia and Rhian get along?"
The other Essentic's brimming personality seemed quite contrary to his own and Kyru was surprised that it was catchy. Although he doubted that he could never see himself as openly bright as the butterfly, he was sure he could be a little more satisfied with his job...maybe even with the fact that he's coped up in the lab. He handed her another ice cube then flew past her, turning around only to give a her a follow me gesture.

Ellandra sighed and shrugged a little. "Well. . . Zia's been having a bit of a hard time adjusting to having Rhian around, but they've been getting along better lately. It was. . . . not easy, at first. I'd like to think they're getting along better now, I know Rhian's trying, but it grates on her that Zia can go out while she can't, and I know it bothers Zia that she's upset about it. . . really, they act quite a bit like an older sibling and younger sister at times. . ." Considering that's what they WERE, really, it didn't surprise Ellandra in the least, but she did wonder what the doctor would think of the relationship.
Rhian took the ice cube and gladly followed after Kyru, enjoying the company of her newest friend. "Where are we going, Kyru-ru?"
