He'd been given a chance to prove himself. He'd found the pride within the desert, the Firekin, and he'd seen their strength. And it was a strength he wanted to be part of. For though each lion within the pride was strong, their true strength was together. As a pride that survived no matter what, from what he'd heard.
He faced his opponent, on guard and silent and still...and then he lunged. Not for the throat, that was too obvious, too eager. He went for a leg, hoping to disable his opponent long enough to gain the upper hand. He didn't succeed. He'd done something he hadn't in a long while: he'd misjudged the angle he moved at and the speed he went, and ended up going right past his mark. He turned, hoping his mistake hadn't cost him the battle so early on.

Move: Bide
It was about time, Kidondo thought, that he met one of the prospective rogues like this. Others had. Guards, passers by, but never him and he walked these borders almost every day. He liked the look of this one. That bold red, that defiance, that willingness to prove himself. Perhaps a little too willing? Either way Kidondo wanted to give him a chance. He seemed a tough sort.
He leapt sideways as the other lunged, spinning in the sand to face his opponent. A rare smile graced his maw and he braced himself securely in the sand, digging claws into the uneven surface to hold himself steady.
"You have promise." He called out to the other, biding his time for a moment. "Show me what skills the outside world has taught you."

Move: Successful Attack
Kich had managed to turn himself around in the sand, getting used to it for a moment. Now he just had to remember how to stay steady in the shifting sands...toes spread out, so all his weight wasn't too focused...
It was then he noticed it. A slight shift in the sands beneath Kidondo, a shift he could use to his advantage. The crimson lion surged towards the black one, seeking to push him back using that shift. He wasn't as large as the other lion...but that seemed to be to his advantage as he skid sideways and crouched a bit, so he thudded into the other's chest and front legs. He didn't want to open a chance for the Regent to use those wicked teeth of his.

They collided with incredible force, the muscle and strength of two fully grown lions terrifyingly dangerous. Kidondo felt his front half lift from the action and felt his balance shift against him. If he wasn't careful he was going to end up crashing to the sand.
With a snarl he pushed off from the other, dancing backwards easily upon the surface of the sand. That was the way, of course. For he had been born and raised here and the sand was a part of him. So it would come to be for this young male if he proved himself.
"A good move." He replied. "Impressive for one so young. I am glad for this opportunity to test your strength." He smiled and his smile was full of sharp, blazing teeth. Lowering his head then, hunching his shoulders, he made to circle the male, trying to watch and guess his next move.

Kich would have been caught off guard by the other's compliments if he wasn't in battle. He didn't hear such words often from one as obviously strong as the Regent. As it was, however, he was determined to show he could keep that strength up. "And I am glad it is you who chose to test my strength." He couldn't see an opening yet...so he waited. Circled Kidondo as he was being circled, seeking an opening and keeping himself as steady as possible. Rather hard, since he wasn't used to the sand yet. But...
Kich decided his unsteadiness might be a blessing at some point. It was easier to fall away from an attack if certain habits were not ingrained...

And test it he would.
His eyes were on his opponent, biding his time apparently, waiting for a chance to strike. Well, Kidondo would give him that opportunity gladly. He would poke the fire to see if it burned. Time to check reactions. Time to see if this one possessed a counter attack.
He jerked out of his pacing and threw himself at the other, but his aim as off and he cleared the air just at the hopeful rogue's shoulder. He landed hard, and span in the sand, spraying gold around him as he turned to face his adversary, sure a strike would be coming his way.

As Kich made his move to strike, putting his weight forward, the desert decided to foil him. The sand beneath him shifted as he forgot to move properly on it, and the wind brought the sand from Kidondo's landing into his face. He kept from sputtering, and closed his eyes before much sand could get into them, but he fell back a couple of steps as he tried to regain his balance.
This wasn't good. He crouched, an easier position to defend from when the ground was against you.

So the lady desert was on his side it seemed. He smiled despite himself, feeling his love for the sand grow stronger at that moment - something he didn't even think possible. He hoped this one would come to love her, too. He would need to if he wanted to live here.
"The sand can both aid and foil. You must learn to work with her if you are to succeed." He called, giving the other a moment to consider. He wouldn't take advantage when the other had a face full of sand. It wasn't in Kidondo's nature.
When he believed the youngster ready he cut in a wide arc, moving across the sweeps of sand before making another attempt to attack and perhaps pin the young male.
This time his footing was sure, his aim was true. It would be up to Kichomo'damu to evade or make some sort of counter attack.
(( you can have him dodge or something like that ^_^ ))

Kich listened to the Regent. He knew the wisdom of Kidondo's words...the problem was putting them into practice. He was not yet as accustomed to the desert as the larger lion was. But he would try anyways. In this situation, the uncertain was as much his friend as his foe.
He'd managed to get his footing...only to have the Regent come at him, with intent to pin. The white and red lion managed to get himself out of the way, keeping his unsure footing in a practical but very ungraceful manner. He didn't fully dodge, as the stinging in his shoulder where the other's claws had torn through, but he'd avoided the worst. By this point, his breathing was heavy. He'd never encountered such a...challenging fight before. And though he'd started to feel the physical drain, he was excited. This was the strength he'd wanted to see!

So he was good at dodging, even as new to the sand as he was. Impressive. Kidondo approved of this one. He skidded to a halt, sand spraying about his paws as he turned to face the red lion. Yes, he still had much to learn, but it was clear, he had great talent. Not blinded by anger or filled with a desire to show-off, he seemed calm and willing to learn.
No, this one would be a good ally.
He stood facing the other male and after a moment, dipped his head, ending the battle. When he looked up, a small smile graced his features.
"You have done well."
He stepped aside and cast his eyes back towards the heart of the pride, allowing him passage.
"Welcome home, Kichomo'damu."
