She was sleeply, which wasn't right. She'd just woken up, the sun rising high enough to shine it's rays into her den, casting warm light over her and waking her from her slumber. She'd been up late last night, watching the stars from the entrance of her den, eyes shining as she wondered what they were. She remembered being told they were the souls of deceased lions, who'd proven themselves worthy and were being rewarded by being allowed to forever shine in the night sky. She wasn't sure who'd told her - but it was a story that made her heart swell a little as she thought about it.
Curled at the end of her den, against the rocky wall, Tuliua looked as if she were asleep, eyes still closed as thoughts flickered through her mind, the female enjoying taking the time to just sit and thinking, rather than haing to do something. Perhaps the reason she was so tired was because her eyes were still closed? Maybe her eyes being closed tricked her brain into thinking it was nighttime, and therefore sleep time. It amused her, to think that her body could trick her brain - it was something one might think impossible, but it clearly was, as Tuliua was proving right now.
Her tail twitched a little, falling forwards to wrap around her body as Tuliua shuddered a little, a cold breeze blowing into her den. She growled softly in frustration, snuggling her head further into her fur and trying to warm herself up.

Faiz had been up and about, bright and early as always. Despite his attitude, he had always been an early riser, taking early patrol shifts so that he would have the rest of the day to laze about with his ladies. Perhaps that was why he never chided them for sleeping late. With a bored yawn, he returned to the den, finding his little desert flower curled up near the entrance, seemingly still asleep. She was curled into a tight little ball and he had to wonder why.
Then he noticed her shivering.
Temperatures never really got to the Vizier. He'd never been in an extremely cold place, but he fared well enough in the desert's heat when he was younger and going out on raids with his father. The only indication of uncomfortable temperatures to him was the reactions of others.
Seeing 'Liua curled up and shivering made him a little sad and protective over her, so without any words, he quietly stepped over and curled himself around her, his body warm from an earlier run.

Tuliua slowly began to feel the hairs on the back of her neck rising, as if someone was watching her. Growling softly, frustrated at the sudden cool breeze, she blinked her pastel eyes open just as she felt a warm body curl around her, head lifting as her eyes widened in alarm, Tuliua glancing around to see who was now sitting beside her. She instantly relaxed, however, spotting the familiar grey pelt and warm blue eyes and closing her eyes once again, lowering her head to rest it on her paws once more, her shivering slowly subsiding as she warmed up.
Several moments later, with the shivering having subsided and her breathing calmed and become regular, a low, rumbling purr began to vibrate in the quiet female, as she shuffled a little to snuggle closer to Faiz.
"Thank you."

"Anything for you, my little flower," Faiz replied in a soft voice as he leaned over so that he could gently lick her ear. The large lion relished the purr that came from her. It was the little things with his females that he honestly liked the most. He glanced around the empty den and smiled, a small chuckle rumbling in his chest. "It would seem you've slept past your fellow banu, 'Liua. Stay up late again last night, did you?" he asked. He looked down at her through his mane, one brow crooked slightly higher than the other in a questioning manner. It wasn't often that Tuliua stayed up late, to his knowledge, so he couldn't help but wonder what it was that kept her up.

Tuliua smiled - she did appreciate Faiz, more than she realized at times. Things like this, where he was curling around around her and sharing his warmth, showed that he did care about her. And for that, she was grateful. His chuckle brought her attention up to him again, the lionness struggling to face Faiz due to the position they were in. Eventually, she gave up, resting her head on her paws again as her eyes stared out of the den, watching the pride lands.
"I did. I was watching the stars," she spoke softly, turning her gaze from the land up to the sky again. "I was told a tale of them when I was younger - I don't know by who."

Faiz smiled at that. 'Liua was so innocent and it charmed him. He rubbed his cheek gently across the side of her head, his eyes closed. "And what tale was that, precious?" he asked softly. He wasn't much for stories, but anything his females shared with his was worth listening to. ... Unless they were complaining about something absurd. He usually turned their attention elsewhere when he started noticing the conversation heading in that direction. But of course, that wasn't Tuliua. She rarely complained at all, much less about something absurd that he'd rather not listen to. She was too mild and timid for that.

He wanted to hear it? She rubbed her cheek back with a small, growling purr, gathering her thoughts for a few moments before beginning to speak. "Perhaps not a story, as much as a belief. I remember being told about how when you died, there weren't just two options. There were three. Bad, evil creatures went to the bad plac, and good, innocent ones to the good place. But then for those that were exceptional, and that had really proved themselves, the reward was to become a star, where their souls could forever shine in the night sky."
She found herself smiling, leaning further back into Faiz. "...I like the idea of being a star."

The slightly older lion listened quietly as his lioness spoke, his eyes hooded and tired-looking. Of course that was normal, but when one was curled up with a beautiful female it was difficult to keep oneself from becoming utterly relaxed. At least for Faiz, anyways. "Ah, but you already are a star. You shine brighter than any of those twinkling things in the night sky," he replied, giving her ear another affectionate lick. He most certainly wasn't playing favorites with her, all his girls were stars. They shone so much more brightly than any of the other males' banu, in his opinion. None could measure up to the beauty and intelligence within his harem. He prided himself over them. "But I'm sure one day you will become a heavenly star. And I'll be right there with you."

She smiled again, shuffling a little more this time so she could strain her neck around to look at Faiz, and touch her nose to his affectionately. She wasn't already a star - she knew she wasn't, but it still made her happy to know Faiz thought she was. "Thank you."
His next words caused her eyes to light up, though, a smile even gracing her maw as she watched Faiz with a little excitement - the type a young cub might have if they'd just been told they were allowed to play in the mud. "Really? All of us - you, me, Mzu, Faeqa and Najiyya?" she spoke, sounding just as excited about the rest of his harem as herself. She was a little secluded, but still polite and well-mannered. She had come to terms with sharing a long time ago, and completely understood why Faiz wouldn't be happy with just her. She wasn't perfect. That was why Mzu was his favourite. But she didn't mind.

"The gods wouldn't be so cruel as to separate us in such a way," Faiz assured her, knowing full well that he wasn't too sure on that himself. From what he knew, the gods could be fickle bastards when the inclination struck. Not that he had much interaction with gods. Hell, he wasn't even sure if they existed outside of the stories mothers told their cubs.
But honestly, he most certainly did not want to be separated from his treasures, even after death. Which he truthfully did not want to think about. Not at that moment. He'd rather think about spending time with his lovely flower. "Ah, but let's stop talking about this. Things after we die is such a depressing topic, and I'd rather talk about happy things when I'm with you."

Tuliua smiled again, another bright smile as she leaned forwards, nuzzling Faiz;s cheek as she realigned her sitting, so she was beside him instead of inside his protective embrace. She leaned her head on his shoulder, purring once again in a way that almost made her vibrate. "Good. I don't want to be separated from you."
Oh, had she upset him? The purring stopped and her ears flattened against her head. She hadn't meant to talk about a topic he didn't like. Cowering down a little into Faiz, she gave a shallow nod. "Y-Yes. S-Sorry, I didn't mean to."

Faiz jerked a bit in surprise and frowned down at her. "'Luia, precious, you aren't... afraid of me, are you?" he asked when she cowered and stuttered a bit. Sure, sometimes he picked on Mzu and Faeqa in a villainous way, but he was only playing, teasing them to keep them on their toes and blow off some more hotter bouts of steam when something was particularly irritating him, but never with Tuluia or Naji. His relationship with Tuluia was so fragile, he was afraid any acts even resembling hostility would deeply upset her. And Naji... She was young in his eyes and that was not the sort of play he wanted with her.
The large lion leaned down and nuzzled her fondly, trying to convey his feelings in a way he felt words could not. "Don't be afraid of me, 'Luia. I would never hurt you," he sighed softly.

Her jerked, a she gave a small squeak, afraid she'd really done something wrong. She hadn't meant to! But instead of feeling claws across her back of a cuff over her head, she head Faiz speak, before he reached down to nuzzle her. Her body instantly reacted with a purr, Tuliua lowering her head once again, but this time in a snuggle to the crook of his neck, running her tongue over the sensitive spot before leaning her head against his shoulder.
"No - I wasn't afraid," she spoke, a sincere tone of voice portraying her honesty, "I just thought I'd done something wrong." She paused, to snuggle into him again, "I don't like upsetting you."

Faiz sighed a bit in relief and licked her ear. "Tuliua, there are very few things that you could do or say to me that are wrong and even fewer that would truly upset me," he paused there to nuzzle her again. "You're too sweet and gentle for that."
He chuckled there, knowing full well that she was the only one that couldn't drive him to temper of his harem. And that was why he truly enjoyed their moments together. He treasured his harem, but sometimes having to keep a watchful eye on most of them got fairly tiresome. Having 'Liua to come to for snuggles and quiet conversations was very refreshing.

Her purrs were becoming constant, the female clearly quite content in the position she was in, snuggled up to Faiz. Moments like this...they just seemed special. She treasured them, locking them all carefully in her mind so she could remember them whenever she was down. She smiled slightly at the male's compliment, reaching up to nuzzle the underside of his chin. "Thank you."
She paused for a moment, enjoying the silence. Sometimes words weren't needed, and merely the atmosphere and actions of others were enough to portray what words never could. She sighed lightly, finally speaking up as she looked out of the den, and the sun slowly creeping across the sky.
"Is there anything you require of me today, Si-...Faiz?" she quickly corrected herself, looking downwards in embarrassment and shame. She shouldn't have forgotten - he had to keep asking her. She'd get in trouble, one of these days. She had to do better.
