[Mod Edit: This is the sticky in which you can describe a book you've read but whose title/author you can't remember.]

I hope we are allowed to ask for book help here? If not I'm sorry.

There's this book series I'm having trouble remembering. I started reading the series about 4 years ago possibly.(Although I'm pretty sure the first volume didn't get published at the time)

Well I can't remember the title, or the author's name.

But I do remember these things;

-It is a book series (I read the first two volumes...I'm not sure how there are now.)

-There were some illustrations in the book. Sometimes of whatever was being described on the same page.

-I do know it's a comedy

-British characters (the author is British as well, and female)

-The main character was always trying to lose weight(female) she lives with her mom and grandmother or grandfather I think...Potty...?(I think that's someone's name)

-Young adult series

-NOT Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (it's not diary centered like that but the teenage girl is the same premise)

-Each title of a volume in the series had something to do with food. Like maybe "something something Lasagna.." but the titles were always food centered because the main character had a weight problem.

Thanks you for reading this! I appreciate it. Any info on this would be great. It's just that really enjoyed reading this series and I want to go back to it.

I'm glad you found it. No worries about a wasted thread. We should probably have a sticky for books whose titles and authors are lost to us.

Thank you! 3nodding
Yeah that would be a good idea. I remember there was something like it in the Book Forums but it went missing before it became a sticky.

What about making this into a sticky? The title is perfect.

A librarian discussion list I belong to (non-Gaia), calls questions like this "stumpers". People will come in to libraries looking for books they read 20 or so years ago and ask librarians to help find them, with only a vague description. The librarians then ask others on their list to help them identify the book.

Yeah ... my dad has a book like that he's been trying to find for about 10-15 years. sad

So, in case anyone has heard of this, here goes.
He read it in school (early to mid 70s?). It's a sci fi book in which the people of earth learn that an asteroid is going to collide with the planet, so they create a rocket (space ship, space station, something) that they plan to use to find another planet (or maybe just to live on).
That was the first part of the book. The second part is about them in the ship--but he didn't get to read the second half.

I know that's very little to go on, but if anyone's heard of it, it would make a great father's day present. wink

Oh, dear. Sounds like the plot of many sci-fi books I also read in high school (though over a decade after your father). He doens't remember the author or even a single word from the title (heck, even what the cover looked like)?

I am also looking for a book to, let see, in this story it is:
*probably set in the future where the world is deprived from technology
*They are all assigned numbers instead of names (I think)
*The word "I" has been banned from use (They say that "I" was the one who brought the dark ages that created the now)
*They replaced the word I with we
*The protagonist begins to discover electricity
*At the end of the story, the protagonist gives himself a greek name, the one who first gave mankind fire
...weird, I actually know the entire plot yet I can't remember the title, I thought it was called society (including numbers) but I don't know if that is correct or not, and I also know that the author/publisher published two in one meaning that the first is the final draft and the second part includes the rough draft with the changes, can anyone help me remember what this book title is, if you need more information just respond to my reply.

I'm looking for a book where the protagonists have a job as either the "Sword" or the "Shield". I read it ages ago, and now can't remember what it's called, except the series might just say something about swords and shields sweatdrop

It's of fantasy genre with a bit of romance thrown in.

That was published in 1999.

Sounds like Apollo 13 to me, but I have no clue. I'm more of a fantasy kinda guy, ya know?
