The cloud covered the sun, creating a moving shadow on the grassy clearing. Selena felt calm. She had just woken up after walking through the desert during the night. Now she felt like she needed an adventure. The weather seemed to be hinting at cloudy, which made the thought of an adventure even more exciting. Sunny days never went well with Selena.

She pondered over what to do. A hike through the mountains? A search for a hidden spring? A trot through the thick forest, or a walk on the beach?

So many choices, but none of them seemed to fit the mood very well. She needed an adventure, but not a lonely one. She wanted to share it with someone.

Selena hadn't made very many friends int his land yet, though. So she had few choices. Maybe the black filly, Charlotte?

She would probably laugh at Selena for even wanting to go with someone, and not alone. It wasn't like her at all. She was more of a lone shadow than a friendly explorer. There was no explanation for her want.

I might as well just stop dreaming and go on, she thought to herself, if fate wishes for me to go with someone, ill probably meet them on the way.

And with that she trotted off to the beach.

Suichii watched amusedly as his mother and brothers played in the cool ocean waters. His heart lifted like the clouds the day his mother awoke and apologized, with tears in her eyes, for being so utterly useless the past three months. She quickly snapped back to her normal self, bathing her children, feeding the teepee, and generally being a spazz, just how she should have been. It had been a wonderful past week. Scarlet was getting caught up with her sons, and getting to know Suichii more. However, no matter the amount of reassurence, and no matter how selfish it may have sounded, Suichii couldn't help but think... that he had something to do with her break down. Like, perhaps, she was stretched too thin over too many. While she insisted that what happened was just fate, and no one could have predicted nor stopped it, he still had a heavy heart.
The tide came in quickly, wiping out Sweetpea, much to Claude's amusement. Suichii laughed as a drenched Sweet got into a wrestling match with Claude. Dispite his size, Sweetpea was a very tough usdia. Suichii often forgot how touch he was, what with all the verse he spoke. Perhaps, becasue of this poetry, he loved Sweet the most. Yes, he loved Claude's bettles of wits, but it was the poetry he loved the most. He could listen to Sweet speak of mountains, and skies, and moons forever. One woudl think he was in love...

Selena walked through the forest, heading towards the clear ocean. Her mind was running wild, her thoughts were happy and un-burdened. She felt the wind in her silver mane and the morning mist in her face. True happiness.

After trotting the length of the forest, she reached its end, and before her a misty field reached to the tips of the horizon. She smiled and ran. Galloped as fast as her strong legs could carry her, she felt a rush of adrenaline.

She tossed her head and sang with the wind, she was having a blast, and hoping the day would carry on this way. She could already hear the ocean.

She saw the first signs of sand and she ran faster. She jumped over logs and curved around trees. She was so close to the finish.

She jumped the last boulder and landed on the soft sand of the beach.. She was exited and energy flowed through her veins. She could feel her heart pumping happily.
Assuming that there was no one up at this early hour, let alone at the beach, she cried in joy.

But someone was there. Not just one but four Soquili. Her eyes widened it horror. they had stopped their games and stared at her. Selena could feel her cheeks reddening.

Not only had she just burst in on them suddenly, screaming loudly, making sleepy birds fly off, but she had shown them something she would have never shown anyone else. That she felt joy and the exhilaration of living. She would have never ran to the beach, or even smiled, if she knew what she was about to find.

Well, at least she had been correct before. Fate did want her to meet someone on her adventure.

She just wanted to die right then, right there.

Between the crash of the aves and thier laughter, Suichii's family knew nothing of the uninvited, yet no less welcome visitor. Suichii, however, was very aware. He was aware before she came into view. He heard the crashing of her hooves far behind him. Such was the adaptation which grew so necessary from his life as a thief. He turned his head to his left to gaze softly on the mare. As aforementioned, she was univited, yes, but no less unwelcome. In fact, Sui bet his life that had his mother actually been aware of the mares presence, she would have showered her with welcome and affection, just as she did everyone else who came her way. Sui, was, however, not as excitable. Never the less he was very happy to see a stranger.
Just as his mother, who rubbed off on everyone she called her family, he was very happy to meet new Soquili, and perhaps forge bonds that would last. As Scarlet put it, making new friends. Suichii was not quite confortable usin that term just yet. He;d never had friends. Just assets. Others who he used to achieve his own means befopre he tossed them aside to be used at a later date. And so, loyalty was not only new, but a little frightening. He did try to avoid such bonds outside his family, which were terrifying, just on a deeper level. He wished to become more sound within his sanctum, before he branched out.
None the less, company couldn't hurt. He motioned for her to approach him if she chose and to take a seat next to him.

Selena's legs tensed even more. The little family's eyes were all on her. She did not know them, she had never seen them. She was frozen in shock.

She was not afraid of them, she was afraid for herself. Her instincts told her to run, run far. But she could hear Brain's words in her head, telling her to try to meet new Soquili. To try to create more friends, or even acquaintances. Her loyalty to her best friend and the instincts she had forged all her life were in conflict. She fought the long battle inside her. But in reality, only a second passed.

She fled. Her legs had been so tensed they felt like they were about to snap. Now all that released energy was put towards running. Running far from the family. Far from the memory. Far from the problem. It was no longer her's.

Suichii barely had time to register what had happened. He tried to be as welcoming as possible. Perhaps she was just someone who preferred thier solitude, gods knew that Sui had once been like that. Perhaps the sudden sight of people where she expected to find no one, spooked her. This was, after all, a very quiet beach. Maybe it was her territory. Not all were happy to have company, perhaps she disliked it. He knew Tugley had his own strange way of getting others out of his forest, and Kalonas frightened the living daylights out of whoever crossed them, but perhaps they's simply driven her away. Guilt bit at his insides and he stood to gather his famly. Perhaps it was high time they left.
It took time to get them all gone, but eventually the hard headed Sweetpea swallowed his pride and left begrudginly. He then set to placing every stick and stone back the way it was when they came. That even meant that he had to go fishing in the sea for some items. Other's he had to replace and just hope they were good enough. It was now that he thanked his exceptional memory. Within a decent amount of time he was already wiping thier tracks clean, and taking care to get rid of his as he left. He only hopped that maybe she'd come back. Everyone needed a home.

Selena ran, using all the energy that had been stored in the strong muscles of her tensed legs and body.

She did not run for a long time until she stopped and asked herself, What am I running from?

She knew the answer. All her life she had been forced to run. To run from the murderers who killed her parents, to run from the Angeni who took her in, but treated her like a slave. So running was like a second nature to her. It was a survival skill, sharpened by years of hardship and struggle through life's chains.

She was almost like a small animal, running at the slightest sound. Selena felt humiliated. Why would anyone run from a small family that was enjoying themselves on the beach? A family of Kalonas, yes. But this family was normal. They were all regular Soquili, and though Selena had not looked carefully, they seemed to have foals with them as well.

She turned her head forcefully and glared in the direction she had ran from, where the family might still be. She turned herself around, one step at a time, till she was facing the direction from which she came. She took her first step back towards the family. She wanted to apologize for her rudeness.

She frowned.

This new land is making me soft. She sighed, but kept moving forward.

Suichii was nosing a peice of drift wood back into place as he heard the mare come back to the beach. He lefted his head and smiled gently before gently kicking it back where it belonged. He nodded his head submissivley to aknowlege that this was her territory, and that he would leave. No violence was necessary. He allowed his long tail to sweep away the evidence of his hoof prints. He was too far out of ear shot to apologize formally, so silent understandings must be made. His pride kept him from pinning his ears back as would ahve been more sincere, but he did keep his head low so as to avoid jealous confronation. He knew stallions in these aprts were heavily laden with foolish pride to allow someone to leave thier parts withthier heads help high. He knew not of the mares, but chanced that they were the same, so as to avoid embarrassing confronations.
Slowly he backed away. From years of being in a dangerous line of business, it was second nature not to turn his back on anyone. Not until you had a good sense of what was going on. This, of course, made it hard to erase his tracks, so to make up for it, he bowed his head farther. His only thank was that his family had been long since out of the way.

Selena walked back, quickening her pace slowly but surely. Her legs now moved with a purpose, though not one she would have chosen by her old self. She was finally beginning to realize that these lands, her new home, was changing her. She did not yet know if for better or for worse. She only knew that she was no longer the young mare that had crossed the mountains and entered this vast land. She had grown in strength and in wisdom. She had learned new things from different encounters with different Soquili. She had strengthened her mind with memories she had lost, but now regained. And she had opened her soul and heart with the help of her friend and acquaintances. She had few friends, most of which she did not even think of as true friends yet, but she wanted to change this. She wanted a few more good friends. The kind of friends she knew she could trust her life with. Perhaps that family could have in its depths one such friend?

Now she was back to the tree line, and she could see the beach, she could also hear movement. She would have heard it before if it had not been for the fact that she had been so engrossed in her thoughts. But the noise made her pause her steady movement and look around. She quickly saw the stallion nosing a piece of wood which lay near the area where she had jumped out into their presence. She had not noticed him before, not in detail anyway. His colors were bright and he had quite the unique mane, so she wondered how she could have missed him. Most likely the shock.

She began to walk closer, placing her hooves gently between the leaves and twigs scattered on the earth, gently enough so that even the strong ears or a rabbit would not react to her movement. Walking silently through shadows without making noise was one of the few skills she possesed she was also extremely proud of. She now was so close to him she could smell his coat. A spicy, yet gentle smell. She saw him bow a second time and that was when she decided to speak.

"Im sorry."

Suichii lifted his head slightly. He felt a bit more comfortable, now that she approached him. Still, he was very cautous, keeping the peice of drift wood between him and the mare. It may have been an insticnt, but he was glad he still did it. It aided in self preservation. He wasn't exactly comfortable with others outside of his family being so close to him, yet made no signs, other than the boarder of drift wood, showing it.

"Why are you sorry? We encroached on your territory. I assure you it won't happen again." He backed up ever so slighly to signal his immidiate retreat, were she to become violent in protecting her turf.

Selena saw the drift wood and understood the sign. She [paid it little attention, she herself was not very comfortable with the space she created between them. She was trying hard to follow Brian's example, but it felt so wrong to her. It did not feel like she was acting as herself. But it made her feel slightly better at knowing that this stallion was also a little shy around other Soquili.

She flicked her ears and cocked her head at him, "My territory? I have no territory." Which was true, she did not believe it setting borders, it was just the same as building a wall between the world and oneself. She did not have any territory and she did not care if anyone else did. She was free, free like the night's wind.

"And I am sorry because I jumped in on your family unexpectedly, I was not invited and I just assumed no one would be here so early," She flushed a little, but her dark coat hid her embarrassment, "I should have been listening more than just enjoying myself..." She trailed off.

Suichii felt a great deal more comfortable knowing that this wasn't her territory, yet saddened that she hadn't any at all. No where to call home? He'd lived a life like that... it was no way to live. He tilted his head as the second statement came. Was she really apologizing for being happy? For having fun? Now, that just made no sense for someone with a healthy emotional state. Perhaps she hadn't a health emotional state. Now, that was just pathetic. He felt both irritated and saddened for her. "That's why we were here, actually. This is a very quiet beach, sort of a family secret, actually." He laughed a little and stepped gingerly over the wood. Yes, a risk. But this risk now was low. "This means you must either be killed... or brought into our family." Maybe a family, if she didn't already have one, that worked right would balance her out a little.

A lesson was to be learned. From now on, she promised herself she would not numb her senses when being her true self secretly. The mask she was hiding behind most of the time was so fragile and carefully constructed that if one was to know who she really was, and how she acted, it would shatter and make her bleed. The mask was so old, it felt like a part of her, it had become so easy to hide behind it and run away from the world she was to afraid to face with her story.

Bu this stallion perplexed her. He had not only respected the territory he had assumed was hers, he also seemed confused at why she was apologizing. He seemed to accept her, and now he was trying to reach out to her, he had crossed the invisible barrier he himself had created and they both acknowledged. His eyes sparkled as he crossed the wood. He could see through her mask. Almost. Enough to know she had no home. no family.

"Your..family? Me? A stranger?" She squinted her eyes and took a step back, not in retreat, but to show she did not yet trust him. Her legs were ready to run the moment her brain instructed.

"How do you know Im not dangerous?" She wanted to take on his challenge. She could see the unthinkable opportunity he was giving her. She did not trust it.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 02, 2009 2:33 pm

Suichii stopped and watched her carefully. It was only natural that he not be trusted. He contemplated backing up again, but then decided against it. If he was too close, she'd back away again. There was no need to make her feel anymore unwelcome than she already did. He bowed his head again in apology. "Well, if you indroduce yourself, you won't be a stranger anymore. I'm Suichii," he began with another deep bow. There was no telling how well or badly she'd react to the welcome. He wasn't as exuberant about it as his mother, but he was just as open.
Her question did strike him. Normally he'd have been far more cautious on this front. It seems ever since he met Scarlet his suspicious were non existent. He'd met tons of Soquili and never once suspected an attack. He looked off into the ditence a little and sighed. "I'm not too concerned with it. Based on how you ran away at the sight of a group and the hesisation now, I don't expect you'd be a threat." He smiled again.

She smiled and relaxed slightly, only slightly. She was still ready to run or defend herself if necessary. He was right, she no longer had enough momentum to through out empty threats. She could be dangerous, and she was stronger than most mares. But she was not one to attack without reason, she had no blood lust in her. But now she bagan to allow herself to trust him a little more.

"Well I also know that you are intelligent for noticing the obvious signs and not reacting to threats you know no longer have any truth to them." She smiled, but not in a friendly way. It was one of the smiles she would shoot out to those she accepted and acknowledged as useful.

"Well Suichii, I have a name, but I would rather remain a stranger for the time being, seeing as I have humiliated myself already and intruded on your family. If you want, I will disappear. I don't do well with foals. And seeing as you have two..."
