Shylock grinned cheerily as he ambled into his family's apartment. It was a warm and sunny day, which meant the bare skinned halfdemon was out to play for most of the morning. Now, with a decently healthy craving for juice worked up, and his excess energy worked up, he headed into the kitchen to see his guardian.
His blue haired father was presently leaning into the fridge to pull out some juice as well. With a smile, he got out his own cup and one for Merrill - seeing as the older male had wanted the juice out first. "Here, Papa." the boy said lightly, smiling up at his guardian.
"What have you been up to?" the child inquired while his father poured the juice.

" Plotting your doom" Merrill replied cheerily filling each cup nearly to the brim with juice, but not so much that they'd spill when moved. In truth the man had simply been planning a little lesson plan for his son. Shy'd be starting school in the fall and drilling some basic knowledge into his young and malleable mind was a good way to prepare him for what classes would be like.
" Take your cup then sit at the table and I'll explain" The pregnant seraph said giving his son a small smile. Shylock might be part demon and he might not be blood related to him but Merrill still treated him as though he were his own.

The boy nodded a bit, not really feeling like arguing as he picked up his juice and walked over to the kitchen table to set it down and take a seat. Truly, he didn't really think his papa had any real intention of causing him doom. He was probably just doing to do one of those parental things that are dull and annoying but good for you.
Resting his head on his hand, the red-eyed toddler watched his one guardian. "K, I sat. You explain."

Merrill laughed " I will in just a sec" he promised. The angel left the kitchen for a few moments to rummage around in the living room. He returned with a stack of books and some crayons which the man put down on the table before the dark skinned boy. " You are going to learn your letters and numbers so I can teach you to read later"

Shylock blinked and quirked a brow at his guardian. "Mmmmmk." he replied with a shrug. All right, that was fine with him. He could humor Merrill on this at least. Maybe it'd result in him getting to help with bedtime stories.

" Do you want to start with numbers or letters first?" The angel asked number was certainly quicker at least to memorise the first 10 basic shapes of them, from there it about learning how to add them but that was math and could wait. this was just simple stuff adequate for a child his age. As long as Shylock learned what shape meant which number he'd be fine

Shylock thought for a bit. If he learned letters first, he'd know them and then have to learn something else. But if he learned numbers first....he could practice by counting letters. That'd be fun. "Numbers." the boy replied with a nod.

Merrill smiled and opened one of the work books, spread across two pages wets the numbers one through ten in big bubble shapes. " You colour them in and I'll tell you what each of them is ok?" This was strange and yet pleasant for the angel. It would be quite some time before the child he was bearing was ready to be born but this was good practice and the man enjoyed spending time with the child he already had.

Shylock blinked down at the numbers and shrugged. "Okay. Do I have to color them in order?"

The blue haired angel nodded " Yes so you learn the order they're supposed to go in" He explained

Shy nodded, picking up the first crayons and starting to fill in the 0 like he was supposed to. Well this was an easy to remember shape. It was a sorta circle.

Merrill smiled and watched as Shylock coloured in his numbers explaining each one him in turn before moving on to letters. The lesson was simple enough and his green haired son had memorized things fairly quickly , the angel was proud and thought perhaps later he'd get the boy a special reward for doing so well.
