Alex was the co-owner of a fine salon down in Durem, and was fairly famous in the circuit for doing ridiculous charity events and losing gobs of money in the process. He didn't seem to mind, though, as today he had 3 chairs set up on the sidewalk with 3 beauty school students hacking away braids and ponytails from happy kids and generous adults. There was going to be a mass donation to Locks of Love, he'd told one news station, because they deserved it...and because short hair was 'in'! He was a short, thin young man with a baby face and strange greyish tint to his pale Caucasian skin. His hair itself was silver, like tinsel, and styled short and spiked in the back with long, well-parted bits in the front. It was a stretch to imagine him as an entrepreneur.
A sign on the street, half-obscuring any crowd's path that may walk by, read "DONATE YOUR HAIR TO LOCKS OF LOVE style&dye free". Balloons streamed from its stand, and someone had dressed it up with curly ribbons.
Probably Alex.

Ebony was on a walk through town today, out to see a few of the local shops. This trip was mostly because the girl was in search of a new spring dress or two. She had previously had a decent amount of dresses suitable for the spring and summer, but one of her brothers had accidentally mixed up whose laundry was whose and ended up completely ruining them in the wash.
The preteen was of decent height, wearing a pair of short overalls and a white t-shirt today. Her large white wings were folded neatly behind her, occasionally being fluttered to cool her or passersby off a bit. But the only thing about her appearance of any importance today was the two long pigtails of silken black hair, that draped lightly over her shoulders.
Ebby paused as she came upon the sign. Donate her hair to something called locks of love? What was that? It sounded like a nice place but what was it for? Curiously, the purple skinned girl went over to see if she could ask about this event and the charity it was going to.

Alex smiled and waved, keeping an eye on his students. He was the master of the tape measure, and he was currently playing with it. Nobody would lose too much hair today!
"Hey, honey! What's up?" he asked, giving her a little grin. His nose and eyes crinkled.

The girl smiled cheerily at him, her closed eyes mirroring his just a bit in the crinkling. "Hello there. I just had a few questions about your event, I was wondering if you could tell me about the place the hair is being donated to?"

"Oh, Locks of Love! Well, to tell ya the truth, some people don't donate enough to them, so some goes to Helping Hands, but that's beside the point," Alex explained, catching himself before he rambled too much, "It's a non-profit organization that gets kids going through chemo cheap, good-quality wigs."

Ebony nodded at this. Ah, so the hair was to make wigs. Well that made sense at least. "What is chemo, if you don't mind explaining? I'm sorry I'm so full of questions, but I haven't encountered this sort of thing before."

"Oh, nonono, it's fine! It's not all that good a thing to be in contact with," he said, hands fluttering dramatically, "When someone has cancer, they can treat it with chemical injections or radiation. It makes you real sick in other ways, and your hair falls out."

Cancer, now that was a word Ebony knew the meaning of. Not that the girl had had much experience with it, but she had heard a few times of the awfulness of cancer. So there was a treatment for it that caused someone to get a bit sicker and that made their hair fall out? While it did sound pretty bad as a cure, it probably wasn't as bad as the disease it treated.
Idly, the spawn turned her attention to her own hair, fiddling lightly with the end of one pigtail. She'd had it longish ever since she was a little kid. It could be a hassle at times, particularly maintaining it, and she had to keep it put in braids when she did her babysitting. But maybe someone else needed her silken hair more than she did. Fiddling lightly at the end of her pigtail again, she nodded.
"All right, I'd like to donate too, if you don't mind."

"Sure, sure! Step right up. Bobby right there'll take ya," Alex said, leading her to an empty chair. The boy named Bobby waved from beneath his messy locks of black and pink hair.
"How much d'you want us to take off?" Alex asked, drawing his tape measure out. Yay, being useful!

The girl thought a bit. The shortest she'd ever had her hair was to her shoulders but for some reason that didn't seem like enough. "Could you cut it to about the nape of my neck?" she asked, indicating the spot just below her ear that she'd like it cut.

"Oh, sure! Make it easier," Alex said. Boo, not useful any more!
Bobby moved the bands in her hair just an inch or so below where she'd wanted it cut, and snipped above it. There! A...err. relatively straight line. The hair was put into an envelope, and Alex held it over to the girl with a pen.
"Put your name on it, will you?" he smiled, and then: "So whaddya wanna do with your hair today?"

The girl penned her name into the spot on the envelope as she was supposed to and smiled up at Alex. "Mm dunno. Why doesn't one of you pick something you think looks nice and I'll go with that? I don't mind if you style it, dye it, whatever." she said lightly.

Alex grinned. He loved playing with hair!
"Bobby! You can tel the different between centimeters and inches, right?"
"...uh. Yeah."
"Good. You take the tape measure. Ebony and I are gonna go play."
"Hah. Alright."
"C'mon!" Alex laughed, taking Ebby's hand and leading her down into the salon. He twirled his chair with a silly smile.
"Take a seat!"

Ebby giggled a little at his behavior. Well, the man was certainly very Faye, to say the least. Not that she minded, cheerily taking a seat as she was bid. The girl's purple skin was flushed lightly with excitement, feeling strangely free and useful having given up her hair for a good cause. That and there were a really nice breeze reaching the back of her neck and shoulders that she rather appreciated.

Alex hummed a bit and tucked Ebby's hair away in a style he thought might look nice on her face.
"How d'ya like that? We could do a little feathering here." He motioned a bit vaguely.
