Hemakshi laid sprawled out in the dark clearing, looking up at the stars. She had begun to count them as if they were treasure, but soon grew bored and decided to let her mind wander while she kept an eye out for stray shooting stars. The night air made a warm, inviting blanket, so she thought she may sleep where she lay tonight.
Firo grew tired as his wings started to slouch in the ar. The ar pockets under them shrinking till he landed with a yawn. Unkown to him, he had landed next to a female and started to walk twords her. His eyes sagging.
So caught up in her own world, Hemakshi did not notice Firo until he was about to step on her. "Hello there..." She said calmly to alert him of her presense, only looking at him out of the corner of her eye. She took note of his peculiar form and wondered vaguely if his horns were made of gold.
Firo's eyes jolted open, his paw lerching back as he was about to step, which made him fall backwards. He blinked at her, the surprise fadding. "....Hello. Uhm, Sorry about almost stepping on you, I guess Iwasnt really paying attention" >3>
With a sigh, the red-haired Namir rolled to her side and sat up. "You should be," She said with a straight face, though whether or not she meant it was a mystery. Hemakshi's eyes lingered once more to his horns then to his eyes and she smirked. The both had golden eyes.
The corner of his mouth twitched a little, then gave a pretend sigh cross with ayawn. "Why? Are you such an important person that no one should ever step on you?" He flapped his wings, spreading them wide as he looked to the side. Though his eyes slyly remained on her
"Yes," she said, turning her head quickly to flip her hair. "Some consider me an Empress, I'll have you know." Even if that was only one person, and a person who she had not spoken to in ages. Fleetingly, Hemakshi wondered how Kristen was doing.
Firo's eyebrow raised a little as he looked straight at her. In a semi mock tone, he bowed "Ah, excuse me miss empress, I hadent realized what suche precence I was in. And what is one so highly doing out here at such a late time?"
"I can do whatever I want! And besides, there is no curfew in this land, anyone can be out as late as they wish." Hemakshi raised an eyebrow. "Are you new here?"
"indeedy I am. Just flew in from the north. Though we didnt have emeress's there.... I'm sure this new land will be quite interesting." He paused "Well, I hope."
The yellow Namir frowned a tad. "I'm afriad I am not an Empress by law, but you may call me Empress Hemakshi if you wish..." She trailed off, but picked up again to add, "You will not have issues finding interesting occurances here."
"ahhh." He shrugged "Well, being an emperess by marrige isnt that bad either. though I dont know if that counts as law." He looked off into the distance "To tell you the truth, I'm not really one fr law anyways. I'd rather be free and fly." Flashing her a quick smile
She caught the smile and wondered what to make of it. "No, no, only in spirit am I royalty... What do you call yourself?"
His smile fadded a little, but not entirely. "I call myself a dragon." His eyes went harsh and his voice a gentle snarl "And anyone who debates it can feel what these talonless paws of mine can do." The harshness disapeared within a second and the smile returned. Lighthearted voice cutting the silence "But I havent had anyone say I wast for a long time."
She couldn't help but lean away from him slightly at the momentary anger in his voice. But, as quickly as his smile returned, so did her composure. "And by means of a name?"
"Oh. Ohhhh, Yeah, Firo Fa'edra. Temporarily at your service, empress." He wasnt really willing to do any thing she asked for. But he didnt really have anything better to do at the moment.
"Firo Fa'edra..." She said the name slowly. "Tell me, Firo, those horns of yours, are they bone or some precious metal?" Firo tryed to look up at his horns. "well, to my knowlage they are not. Seeing as gold is a soft metal and my horns are usually very hard..... Though I dont really care for the idea of being hunted for my horns because they are precious."
The red-headed Namir raised an eyebrow again. "Completely understandable." She grinned to herself. "I am fortunate in that beauty, though sought after, cannot be stolen."
His mouth twitched slightly again "Ah, but that is not so. For you have to ask yourself, who is doing the steaing?" His eyes became slender, his smile slightly wicked "Father time does a very well job of stealing such treasures."
Hemakshi gave him a grin in return. "Mother Nature giveth, Father Time taketh away. This I have accepted, so I do my best not to give him more leeway through stress, poor diet, that sort of thing."
Firo's expresion turned back to his care-free soft smile and noded "Very understandable. Though my treasures arnt exactly beauty, so father time cant really take those. And I'm not even sure mother nature gave birth to me." He looked at her and gave her a charming smile "My precious horns, strong wide wings. Charm to capture a lady. All treasures I dont plan to give father any time soon."
"If your charm does not fade with age, you are a fortunate one indeed... Though," Her grin quirked at the corner of her mouth, "I do not believe Father Time spends much of his time here in Namiah."
Firo laughed "Aye, then a lucky one I am for finding suce a kingdom." "And its beautiful empress" His charming smile never fading, a slight bow and a arm across the chest to finish the statement.
"It's refreshing to speak with a stranger and have them be fully appretiative of me," Hemakshi said with no shortage of amusement at his statement and gesture. "So far, you have earned my good graces, you'll do well to keep them."
"ah, I shall try. But a male can go wrong at any step he takes. Well, according to the females of my last kingdom. And I hope such a beauty as you never has to see my dark side." A quick flash of darkness in his eyes, making the smile on his face seem wicked. Though he would only release that darkness in a life or death situation. Or if someone knew exactly how to get it out of him.
Hemakshi's smiled coolled lightly; she was sensitive to violence ever since she saw her mother attack her father a while back. The red headed Namir was no coward because of it, but she remained wary of potential threats. "You seem capable of controlling your emotions and your words aptly enough to remain likable."
"Aye." He responded. "Many petty fights as a young child has tought me to pick my battles. And I am no longer sensitive to most name-calling." He looked over in the distance, looking at nothing but wanting to give an air of slight mystery "In less a loved one were to be insulted. Then I would fight." He looked back, a quick smile touched his lips "Though, I dont really have anyone I love, so I wont be fighting any time soon."
"A life of love is a life worth fighting for, or so that seems to be the general opinion." She added non-chalantly and got to her feet. "Well, good Firo Fa'edra, though the air is warm and comfortable, it would not be safe for one as aluring as myself to sleep in the unguarded open. I'm going to return to my clan's place of residence. Have you a place to stay the night or will you go on flying?
He was silent through her talk of love. He could not dissagree, and had nothing intelegent to say at this moment adout it. He then shook his head "No, I have no place of slumber. When I first met you, it was just as I landed from the travel of my old land...." he paused, not really wanting to be a bother, but not wanting to sleep in the cold either. "I have a gold coin if you have somewhere for me to bunk the night."
Hemakshi's grin quirked greedily. "Ah, just as it happens, I have a spare room and the price of it is one gold coin exactly." Gold, gold! How she loved gold. Though, had he not mentioned it, she may have offered him a room anyway, The Ditch was full of spares.
He smiled "I'm glad to have met someone who can give me board tonight. Plus, the conversation wasnt half bad either." Giving her a sly wink, he stood to follow her when she started. "Though, I will not give you the coin just yet. When we get to your...house? I will give it then." He paused "Just in case you have a urge to run and leave me behind.": The idea made him chuckle. For he was sure wih his wings, he could catch her if she tried.
Hemakshi gave the winged Namir a sceptical look. "And how am I to know you even have a coin with you, and if you indeed do if it is real gold? ...And it's more of an underground complex than a house. I hope you do not have a fear of the subterranian."
"Well, I prefer myself a breeze, but being under wont kill me." He gave a quark of a smile, amuzed by her witt. "Well, I just so happen to have it with me." He pulled a pouch from behind a flap of skin where his wing met his body. Opening it, it showed quite a few coins of gold and silver. the rest were copper. "I dont know the currency of this land, but where I am from, these coins are very sought after. Well, at least the shiney yellow ones. "Giving her another wink.
One could practically see the metallic coins reflect in Hemakshi's eyes and she stared for a long moment. "In all actuality, I have not heard of this island having currency, though there is some talk of exchanging tokens for fruit or something of the sort? Despite all that, I am sure those would make perfect payment."
Firo closed the bag and tucked it away once more. "Good, then I hope we shall not see any difficulties. And, I am ready when you are, Emperess." his smile returned again
"Excellent!" She said with a little shake of her shoulders and began to walk. "The Ditch is not far off, though I wish it had a more appealing name..."
He chuckled, just thinking about that "Yes, why DO you call it... 'the ditch'?" He started to strole along with her, laying his wings down flat against his body. "And if I may be permited to ask, how long have you lived in this land?"
Hemakshi fell into step with the other Namir as the two of them walked. "Our human named it that because the entrance is located in a ditch and she seems to think the word sounds funny. And... unlike many others but not all together uncommon, I was born here."
Firo listened intently "How nice. I would have liked to stay in my kingdom... But it was far too complicated if I had stayed." He looked over to her and shone his smile once more "Seems the king be an awful tart since he found news his jester slept with the queen, then banished him."
"He must not have been much if she would betray him for the fool, or perhaps the fool was not as foolish as he appeared." Hemakshi said with a laugh.
Firo laughed as well. "Or maybe a bit of both. Rumor had it, the fool fell deeply in love with the queen. And I hear she loved a good laugh." He laughed once more. "Though when the king heard of his trechery, he gave him two options. Die by the hand of his lover, or disapear and never return." He smiled as he watched his feet walk over the ground "Rumor was, when I left, he was trying to get back and steal away his love by nightfall." He then looked to the stars "Part of me wishes he succedes." Then looked to Hemakshi "Like you said, good love is worth fighting for."
"But if he were to succeed, perhaps his Queen would not truly love him and his efforts would be for naught." She commented.
Firo thought for a moment "Aye, I guess so. Though the fool thought highly of the queen, and the queen half crazy when she heared what the king had planed her to do." "They say she sick with head sickness now.....but I did wonder if she be faking it." He gave a tiny laugh "No matter, that kingdom is mine no longer. And after a good nights sleep and a days rest, I hope to explore my new kingdom in sun.
Hemakshi nodded. "Namiah is a gorgeous place by sun and moonlight, however the Eastern side of the island is the more friendly..."
Firo tilted his head in question "What of the west? Is its climate less favorable?"
"Mmm... the land is a bit desolete, though I know of those who would be right at home in mountains, deserts, and deadwoods." She said. "As I recall, Namrah who look more like you are native to there? I am not really sure, though."
He gave a slight chuckle "If there are any other dragons, I'd like to meet them. Maybe you can take me there some day and introduce us." He gave a slight yawn and tried to hide it "How much more walk is it from here?"
Just as Firo said that, the two of them came upon the dirt ditch that marked the location of her home. "We're here. And I have heard tale of Dragonmir, I will keep an ear out for you." Hemakshi took them to the door and stopped. "At this point I am required to tell you that the human is in no way responsible for any harm, physical, mental, or emotional that may occur to you inside The Ditch."
Firo's eyebrow raised. Wondering what such harm had come to a namir to head such a warning out of the 'emperess'. "O...kay." He said, waiting for her to open the door. "Oh! And here, my payment." He flipped a coin out from in between his toes. He had stashed it there so he wouldnt have to get the pouch out again. It was never really a good idea to advertise how wealthy you were.
Hemakshi caught the coin in her paws and stowed it in her vest. "Don't worry, it's really more of a password than a disclaimer." She stuck out a paw and tapped the wood of the door and a portion of it swung in like a doggie-door. "The door for us regular types is hard to see, and for some reason it sticks if you don't say the password."
He laughed. Such an odd place he would be staying in "Well, at least you know how to open it. It would be rather sad if you couldnt even get into your own room and board." He looked around after they had entered and smiled "well, at least it looks better then the name titlled for it."
"It would indeed. Come now, I'll show you to the spare room." To say there was a spare room was a lie, there were many spare rooms. Hemakshi led Firo through some of the tunnels of the complex before stopping at another swinging door. "You may have this room. If anyone asks who you are, just say you're a friend of mine and they'll leave you be... or pester you, I can never be sure. "
He looked at all the passageways. Remembering exactly where he had come from. "So....wheres your room?" He looked at her after he had stepped into the room she had given him "You know, in case I get lonely and need someone to talk to."
."Down the hall and to the left," She said, "You'll know which door is mine. But knock first, please, as I do not like to be woken forcefully." Hemakshi's door was covered in various bright and reflective stickers
He chuckled "highly noted. All right then.... I guess I'll see you in the morning then. Sweet dreams I guess...." He was never really any good at 'goodbyes'. He hadnt even said any to his friends in his old kingdom.
"Good night, Firo, have a good rest." Hemakshi said and left, rounding the corner to her room. However, she poked her head back around to say something. "Just a note, don't try to steal anything, it won't end well."
He gave a little salute to her, taking her notice well. He closed his door silently behind him and smiled "Yes...knock first. I'll have to remember that." He gave a slightly wicked smile and climbed into bed "I'd hate to walk in as she undressed." sighing and falling asleep

Hemakshi was just waking up, lazily and slowly in her usual fashion. The fact that she had a guest over in another room had not yet reentered her mind, so she took her sweet time brushing her hair and making sure her vest was free of wrinkles.
Firo got up slowly, making sure not to cramp any soar muscles. He flapped his wings a few times to stretch them and walked out of the room. Nearing Hemakshis room, he smiled. He knocked "You awake?"
Hemakshi jumped a little, mussing her hair. Who could be calling for her? Oh, yes, that winged fellow, Firo. Running a paw over her bangs, Hemakshi neared the swing door and pushed her way out. "It seems I am." She said with a little smile.
He smiled back "Either that or you're a beautiful subnambulator." And chuckled. "You busy tonight? I wanted to show you something.
The red-headed Namir's mind strugged over the large word for a moment before moving on. "No, I have no plans. What did you have in mind?"
"Its a secret. All you have to do is trust and follow me." He started walking to the way out of what she called the burrow. Or is that what she called it? he thought to himself.
"Hmm..." She grinned and followed out of what was in fact called The Ditch. "A beautiful creature such as myself should not trust so easily, though you seem to have good taste and I'm intrigued what you have to show me."
He grinned back at her "Plus, royalty should never go out alone." And winked at her. He headed to the caves, which were a nice 15 minute stroll through breezy night air. Firo fanned out his wings to feel the breeze.
"True, true," She mused, then laughed and gave a shrug. "But I've always been a rebel." Hemakshi's ponytail was tossed by the wind, yet managed to fall almost as if it had not been disturbed at all.
He laughed "Its much more fun that way. " He jumped on a rock, then over the small stream that kept them from reaching the entrance to the cave. He turned back "Need any help, milady?" His lips twisted into a smile.
Hemakshi jumped gracefully onto the same rock that Firo had and looked from him to the stream. "I ought to be alright," she said both to him and to herself, it was a small stream after all. "...But be prepared for an emergency rescue, just in case." Crouching and wiggling her hind legs like a cat, Hemakshi leapt and landed near Firo successfully and with no small amount of pride.
Firo gave a huge smile "Very good. I'd hate for your hair to get wet." He paused, realizing what he had just said "Though I'm sure it looks perfct either way ^^;;" He turned quickly and started walking twords the cave "Come on slowpoke. Its note intresting till you get on the inside."
Hemakshi playfully stuck her tongue out at him for the slowpoke remark. "I'm not slow, I am merely letting you go first in case there are booby traps." She smirked, then added, "And my hair does happen to look gorgeous when floating in water."
"like a brilliant mermaid I suppose?" He looked back at her. "Though mermaids dont wear vests. You know, no catapillers to make the silk." He entered the cave, hoping she wouldnt mind the 15 min walk to the crystals, and another 5 to the lake. He looked at her, his golden eyes peircing the darkness to smile at her.
For a moment, she could have sworn Firo's eyes were nearly glowing in the dim light. "Silk comes from coocoons, did you know that?" She said, catching up with him.
He tilted his head "No, I did not. But...I do believe that still proves my point." His dark laugh echoed in the cavern. Soon, it seemed as though the darkness was ebing away and a soft light glowed from the walls He whisped softly "A magnificint sight, one a beautiful empress should not miss the chance to behold." His tone not as serious as it could have been.
She fleetingly imagined some glorious underwater kingdom with the royalty dressed to the nines in some sort of seahorse silk, but the thought passed when Firo called her attention to the faint glow. "What is it?" Hemakshi inquired, her eyes straining slightly to see more.
They soon came to the part of the cave where the crystals shimered on the walls. "They're crystals. I'm not exactly how they were formed...I think it has to do something with wetness, or pressure..." He looked at her face, the brilliance ofall the shimmering colors on her face made his heart futter a little. He caughed a little and looked away. "Its pretty cool how they are all different colors. In the part with the lake, you can almost swear some make shapes."
"There's a lake?" She asked, not looking at him. For the moment she was oblivious to his reaction of the dancing colors on her visage, as she was caught up in her own reflection in the crystalline walls. Hemakshi was overcome, really, with the beauty of it all. It was too bad, she though, that these crystals were secure in the walls; she would love to have some as jewelry.
Firo nodded "Yup. Its really cool too. Its not clear, but almost like it glows irredecently. I'm sure its great for the pores." He laughed.
"I'm not really sure how one covered with fur is supposed to be concerned greatly with their pores." Hemakshi added and turned back to face him. "Will you take me there?"
He smiled "Well, hair has to grow from somewhere. And if the bace of the hair is not taken care of, then the hair itself will not look good. Soaking in this will probably give your hair a nice sheen." He smiled again "Well, theres not really much else to go. Theres a few passageways, but they are too small for an adult to go through ^^;;." "Its about a 5 min walk from here."
"I know, I was thinking more along the human lines, where they try to get their pores to be less apparent. But yes, let's go. Which way is it?"
He paused, looking at her. "Umm...straight..." He pointed ahead. He then looked at a purple crystal hanging on the wall. He ran to it and slashed at it with his claws. He did this fr a minute till it poped out of its holding. It wasnt realy huge like some others, but they were barried deeper into the wall. He walked back over to where she was "Shall we keep going then?" The crystal hanging in his mouth.
Hemakshi watched him curiously, then was almost hypnotized by the crystal in his jaws when he returned. "Yes, let's..." She said and started walking slowly in the indicated direction.
As they reached the lake, firo took to the air with his wings. He stopped fr a second over the lake, not moving, like time had stopped. He then plunged into it, with a tiny splash.
The shimmering water was gorgeous, this is nearly what she had imagined in that underwater kingdom scenario a little while ago. "How's the water?" She called to Firo.
Firo poped his head and smiled widely. He had flung the crystal he had gotten to the shore "Tingly =D!" He laughed "Its perfect. Care to join me? Theres an under water passage."
Hemakshi's eyes followed the path of the crystal through the air until it hit the ground. Oh it was difficult to resist the urge for sticky fingers, but she turned her attention on Firo successfully. "Of course!" She said and removed her vest, then removed the band from her hair so it fell over her shoulders in a wave. She tested the water with a paw, the slipped into the water and began to swim.
Firo gave a tiny blush as the female striped her coverings in front of him. He shook his head and dippedback under the water to swim closer to her, his wings tuckedin beside him.
Hemakshi doggy paddled in Firo's direction, slowly and without a terrible amount of effort in her usual style, then waited for him to resurface.
He surfaced inches from her face "Boo. Miss me, oh wonderous Empress?" He chuckled and held out a paw to keep her steady.
"No, I could see you through the water." Hemakshi grinned. She would have tried to hold onto his paw for support, but that likely would have only made her less steady.
He smiled and took his paw back "Stubern lil thing, arnt cha? And spppf, smarty pants. It could have been my reflection of me flying <_< >_>. Whos to say I'm just not that fast?"
She tried to shrug, but shrugging and swimming don't particularly mix. "Maybe you are that fast, then. Which way's that passage?"
"Down to the right. Take a deep breath... Its kind of long." He smiled and swam to where the hole was. Looking back to mae sure she was following, he went through it.
Hemakshi took a deep gulp of air before diving and following the winged namir. She opened her eyes under the water and soon got used to the feeling. It was surreal; the water was so clear the only way she could tell it was there was from the way it distorted the light.
Firo surfaced on the other side. It was darker here, but you could still see. The gems shone brightly everywhere. Though the ones in this cavern where bigger from more age. He swam to the shallow end then turned to see if Hemakshi had resurfaced.
The red-headed namir broke through the water with a gasp; she hadn't gotten a deep enough breath after all. But when she saw the glittering walls of this new cavern, Hemakshi gasped again in awe then paddled towards the shore.
Firo was in shallow enough water now where he could spread his wings above the water to let them dry. Dropplets falling off the leathery-hard skin. He saw that she had surfaced and turned his head to look at the paths they could take. "so, Empress, any idea where we should go from here?"
"You know this place," she said absently, eyes wide and gazing upon the shimmering gems that surrounded her, "not I."
He chuckled "Yes, yes I do. But a loyal servent should always follow his Empress" And gave her a slight wink, even if she wasnt looking. "From here on, I'm only here for conversation andif we get incredibly lost." A soft chuckle exiting his throught after he said that.
TO BE CONTINUED~!
