Yaretzi was laying out by the water of a small oasis she had happened upon on her journey towards the demon pride that she'd heard so many rumors of. She sat, half in the sun, and half in the shade, content for the moment to be allowed to sit, and rest, if even only for a few moments. She sighed, looking around her.

At least she was in a rather nice setting, Yaretzi mused. It was a smaller oasis than the one she used to live near, but it wasn't the smallest one she'd seen by far. It was filled with small palms, and larger ones, all bending and swaying in different directions. She liked all the different sizes of them becuase it allowed the wind in, but it prevented the sand to penetrate into her eyes. There was a small and yet simultaneously deep looking body of water near her, she didn't get to close to it though, for different reasons. She'd yet to see any other wild cats or dogs in the area, this seemed like a very comfortable spot, how could there be no one but herself here?

Yaretzi didn't worry about it much. The less people around, the less rowdy her demon became. She closed her eyes happily, laying one paw over the other, and resting her head on the top one. She took in a deep breath, her whole body expanding at the act, and deflating with her exhalation. She might just spend the whole day here if she could, after all, what did it matter if it took her one more day to get to the demon pride? They'd still be there, right? RIGHT.

It seemed like the pair had been walking forever across the dry and barren landscape, their paws sore from the unforgiving ground beneath their feet. Not that Sagasu would have ever admitted that her paws throbbed just as much as her sister's did, instead only casting a cutting look over her shoulder every time Himeru dared to open her mouth to speak. It didn't matter what her leucistic sibling had to say at this point, she was certain that if Hime spoke just one more time, the fur would fly.

Luckily, Hime knew better. Shrinking timidly from the sharpness of acidic stare. For a moment she crouched low to the ground, stripe snared tail twitching with anxiety, waiting for there to be a safe enough distance between then before she continued to follow. Her own nervous gaze flicking across the dry plains in search of danger. Sagasu always carried herself in a way that simply invited challengers. Her sleek, dark frame held tall and proud, head high, tail moving to its own unrestrained rhythm. In away slight leopardess admired her kin's fearlessness and yet there was a part of her that wished Sagasu could be just a little more demure so as not to attract so much trouble. Was that really so much to ask?

Ahh hah! I knew I smelled water! Look there! An oasis! I told you I knew where I was going! You should quit worrying so much, sister. You're going to die at an early age if you don't relax a little. Sagasu chimed half chiding and half gloating at her find as dragging pace picked up into a jaunty jog eager to reach the shady haven and escape the sun's wrath. Hurry up! Last one to the lagoon smells like a baboon's butt!

Himeru whimpered in protest, biting back words of caution as her melanistic companion charged the tree line. Sagasu surged towards the body of water, diving into its cool depths with a rowdy splash. A wave lapping over her deep, burnt brown backside, nearly completely submerging the delighted leopardess who was completely unaware of any company that might be lingering in the safety of the garden of salvation.

OOC: that's cool, I only used her tag image becuase the uncert is way too big and i felt too lazy to resize it >>;;;

Yaretzi smiled to herself when she heard the bickering. She'd never had a sister, so it was always interesting to watch and see how siblings interacted. She raised an eyebrow, still in her laying position, her eyes closed, athe the baboon's butt comment, OBVIOUSLY these were some 'mature' girls.

Yaretzi had heard the rather loud one coming from what seemed like a mile away. It didn't help that them if they were trying to be sneaky, considering the fact that all the shrubber surrounding the area almost acted as a warning signal for their approach. Had this been a cooler day, or had Yaretzi been in the mood, she probably would have done or said something to scare the two off, but quite honestly, she was in the shade now. And there was no reason for her to have to fight....

But when the loud brown one jumped into the water, creating waves and splashing water out of the pool, and getting Yaretzi wet unexpectedly, she let out a yowl. But what could one expect? The water was cool, and against her hot pelt, it felt almost frigid, she got up, trying to shake her self off, trying to hide the fact that she was surprised.

When she was done, although not satisfied, she looked up, and saw the other one. She seemed more timid, she even smelled like she was scared. It was interesting to her to see how much of a difference there could be between two supposed sisters. She stared at her for moment and shook her head, uttering one simple word. "Leopards."

Oh yes. Maturity and poise. The young leopardess twins, barely out of adolescence, were quite the shining example of what was to be expected of them. Really how could one expect anything less given their lack of a proper upbringing. With no mother to teach them grace and tact and no father to provide boundaries Sagasu was a loose cannon and Himeru was simply fodder. The pair made due with what they were given and survived the best they knew how to. No one could demand any more of them then that.

Watching her oblivious sister wade through the crystal blue water which, once pristine and undisturbed, now rippled in the wake of Sagasu's enthusiastic sloshing Hime could only sigh in dismay. Pale figure lingered on the tree line, pacing, reluctant to tread any deeper into the unknown territory though equally as hesitant to be left behind. The sweet scent of clean water caused her pink nose to twitch, desperate to quench her thirst, yet she fell deathly still at the startled yowl and suddenly undeniable form that loom ed from the shade. A dark lioness with intricate golden markings. Her presence causing Himeru to choke on a trembling call. The dampened female didn't look pleased by any means. S-Saa.. Sagassu! Sag-gaaa-s-suu! L-Lioness! There's a l-liooon-ness over the-e-ere!!

Pressing her belly low to the ground, panic stricken leopardess gazed repeatedly between her sibling and the unfamiliar savannah cat. Maybe she shouldn't have been surprised by Saga's unerring calm. They had been together all of their lives yet her sister's devil-may-care attitude towards everything made her wince.

Citrus colored eyes, lemon and tangerine to be more specific, raked towards her kin's simpering as she pulled herself from the depths of the water and shook the dampness form her pelt though still her chin and tail and a line of fur along her underbelly continued to drip created tiny puddles in the sandy shore. Rolling her eyes in exasperation a level stare diverted with no hurry towards the lioness that had gotten Himeru so up in arms, one could have swore the girl was part hare by how jittery she was. Sizing up the rogue with a lazy smile as she reassured flighty partner. So there is. It seems we weren't the only ones seeking a shady spot to rest... but it's only one. Would be a foolish thing to attack us when she's outnumbered so quit cowering.

Smooth voice spoke with an easy confidence and observing eye, showing no fear or willingness to be looked down upon by some haughty plains walker. Sagasu would never differ to a lion as a lesser being and she was rather set in her decision that they were all equals in the eyes of their creator. Yet canting her head she tried to be cordial enough, greeting the lioness with a wiry grin. Hello stranger... you're looking a little ruffled. Hope we didn't startle you too bad?

Yaretzi shook her pelt off, her underbelly hadn't gotten wet so it was easy to soon dry herself off. She looked over at the lighter colored one, calling out to her sister, and almost trying to hide by pressing herself as low to the ground as possible. She raised an eyebrow, did she really seem that scary? She doubted it. She almost felt bad when she heard the poor thing stutter and trip over her words.

Her attention turned to the other darker colored female, Sagasu? She'd heard the other one call her. She smiled as her fur became ruffled, and watched her too try and shake the water from her pelt. She watched her size her up, Yaretzi made no move to try and make her self seem more feral, if she had been looking for a fight, she would have, but honestly, it was too hot, and all Yaretzi wanted to do was relax in the shade.

She did, however, roll her eyes when she listened to Leopard say it would be foolish to fight. "For one," She said, stretching out and laying back down, "I'm hardly out numbered, that one over there shouldn't count, I think her heart might stop before I even hit her. Which would only leave you, a fair fight I think. And for two, it's too nice of a day to be spent fighting over a splash."

She settled back down, not as comfortable as she had been before, but she was still laying down, as if the two didn't bother her in the least. She raised her head, to continue to address the more adventurous of the two. " No, not too badly." She said, joking back. "But if I were any older, you might have." She didn't smile, in face, the expression on her face was rather... well.. expressionless. But her tone was friendly, and her body language wasn't threatening.

"Now." Yaretzi said, motioning with her head to the other one still quivering over at the other side, "Tell your sister to take a drink, it may calm her down." These two were an odd pair, quite different from one another, but Yaretzi couldn't help but think that two of them seemed rather, interesting. Why chase them off?

She just couldn't help but guffaw at the lioness' almighty wisdom, or what she perceived to be as such. Her observations of Himeru proved just how savvy she really was, tutting softly in dismay at such an abject observation. Granted her sister did give the impression of a less than capable huntress and even more incompetent warrior, and such an impression would have been generally true. However, Hime was loyal to a fault and Sagasu knew, no matter the situation, she would never recoil from a fight. No matter how much she may have hated it.

You really are quite foolish stranger. Underestimating an opponent you've never fought will get you killed, you know? Sleek head cocked with an expression as if earnestly providing advice from her many years of well aged experience. Continuing with an indicating bob of her head towards the slightly smaller leopardess. My twin may act like a chicken but she has my back, should I need her. Though, at least we can agree on something... this is a lovely haven and it would be a crime against nature to go spilling blood here.

From the distance, pallid counterpart watched Sagasu and their new acquaintance with uncertainty. Raised fur slowly smoothing when the female hadn't yet shown any signs of animosity nor tried to rid her sister of her sharp tongue. Fighting back the smile that touched the corners of her lips at her surprisingly humorous comments despite the indifference that was carried in her posture. Appearances were deceiving all around it seemed. Even Saga laughed, maw crinkling with pleasure as she settled down to sit on her haunches. Well that's a relief I suppose. I don't know if I could handle your death on my conscience.

Himeru winced. Even when attempting to be friendly Saga seemed to say the most awkward things, things that could easily be misconstrued as offensive and insensitive when really her sibling only lacked social grace. Cautiously, she cut into the conversation, to keep Saga from digging herself a deeper hole. Mewling bashfully as chocolate colored paws righted crouching frame, though still she carried herself in an almost slinking fashion and with far less confidence than the other. I-I'm okay... re-really. Thank.. uhm.. Thank you.. f-for your concern.

Silky voice struggled to fight down the nervous quiver, grateful that quenching her thirst took precedence over idle conversation as curling tongue lapped daintily at the water's edge. Across the way, Sagasu had taken to her feet once more, moving to lay closer to Hime in an action that was completely unconscious. As if some unseen string bonded them, keeping the pair from ever wandering too far from one another for very long. Curious eyes fell upon the lioness as though they had never left her, speaking as though in afterthought. What's your name anyhow? I'm Sagasu.. and my sister's name is Himeru.

Yaretzi let the comment slide. If she had been in a different place, in a different time, she would have come back with some smart a** remark. But now, she was getting on in the seasons, and she'd calmed down quite a bit. It took much more than a feisty Leopard to get her hackles rising.

She saw out of the corner of her eye, the other lighter sister take a less agressive poster, and as a result, Yaretzi granted her a small smile and a nod of approval. "So it seem's your sister does 'have your back'. That's good to see. Too many siblings fight to the death among themselves now a day's. Quite a pity really." She let out a gust of breath, the only thing that could qualify for a laugh at this point. "Child, if you were to be the death of me, I'd haunt you into your own grave."

She looked over to the lighter one, watching her slink. She wasn't too certain how valuable she would be in a fight. After all, it only took a moment or two of uncertainty to get a lifelong scar, or to loose a life long friend, or even to be the friend that is lost. "You really should build your voice more, learn to project it, most of a fight can be won based upon appearance alone. If I were some big, crazy looking lioness, would you fight me? No." she frowned slightly, a look of concern on her face. "But you act like the sickly one of the pack, you can't let others have that idea about you. It's a life or death opinion."

Yaretzi lifted her head and watched the other sister move closer to her own. She wondered momentarily, how long the two of them had been alone in the world together. Probably all their lives. That would of course explain the more aggressive ones behavior. It's hard to learn to fear things when you have a sibling you have to protect.

"Yaretzi." She said as a short response to Sagasu. Still keeping her eyes on the lighter one. "How old are you two?" She asked curiously, honestly and truthfully interested to know.

The comment of slaughter amongst one's own family caused the pair to meet each others' gaze as if they considered the same thought at the same instance. Neither Sagasu nor Himeru could have pictured turning against the other, not when all they had ever had was each other. Hime's gaze was the first to meet Yaretzi's again, sorrowed by such a statement and it was evident in empathetic eyes that she did wonder if the lioness knew from experience. Sagasu's own stare wasn't far behind, giving a playfully toothy grin at the older feline, stating rather cheerfully. That could be interesting. Like having a guardian angel! I don;t think too many strangers would want to tangle with me if I had the ghost of a lioness skulking around me all the time. That might actually come in handy...

While Saga pondered the idea, Himeru had long since quenched her thirst, her weight shifting as she turned to nestle down beside her twin, curling against the darker leopardess like cubs might. Wise words were taken into consideration when her brows fell to furrow with a worrisome expression over pale stare. Cream colored ears folding with reluctance to follow the advice, no matter how sound it may have been. Himeru wasn't the sort to start trouble nor did she have the obnoxiously loud and zealous personality of her twin. She could fend for herself, but fighting was never the passive female's first desire. I-I'm sorry, but... I... I don't wish to fight a-anyone. I would rath-ther avoid conflict if it can be h-helped.

Rubbing her cheek on dark fur Hime hid her face awkwardly, her voice abashed. Yaretzi was only trying to be helpful, it wasn't that she didn't realize that, but the leucistic leopard had little desire to seem threatening in any manner, in her experience such things only brought more trouble. A wet tongue curled gently over the nearest of Hime's ears as Saga's damp fur made her own fur moist from their bodies pressed snug together. Slightly larger than her twin, chocolate hued head fell to rest over Himeru's neck, biting at her ear affectionately as she considered the question, answering with hesitation as if somewhat uncertain of the accuracy of her response. Three... dry seasons, we've survived.

Yaretzi chuckled and shook her head. "You think it'd be interesting, but I don't know if it really would be, think about it, you'd have some voice in you head, no matter where you were, no matter what you did, the voice would never shut up. And I judgmental lioness, could you imagine hearing me critiquing your fighting style, or hunting styles for the rest of your life? And just imagine it during mating season, always knowing there was someone watching you. I think it would be more a pain than an advantage." She nodded her head a long with her own logic, it sounded a little creepy, but honestly, what did it matter? She was just trying her hand at being joking, or playful. It was a little awkward and she wasn't sure if she was doing it right or not.

Yaretzi looked at Himeru, giving her a considering sort of stare. "Although that would be a grand way of thinking, every once in a while, you're bound to run across an ignorant male or female, that live for the fight, for the kill, for the blood shed of those weaker than them. If they see someone they think would be easy to pick on, they'll go after you. You don't even have to talk, just walk with your head held high, and shoulders back. Although, that's best for when you're in a crowded area, and it's far more intimidating when you're sister is with you." She smirked towards Saga direction.

In general, she was just smiling, she couldn't help it, the two of them looked adorable lying there next to each other. They almost looked like twins, it was endearing to hear how old they were, and that they were still so close to one another. It made her think about what might have happened if she herself had had a sibling, or if she ever had cubs, if they would be as close as these two? She let out a low sigh. "Well, don't pay me any attention, if you've managed to make it by for this long with out any major catastrophes, I'm sure you'll be just fine."

Sagasu wrinkled her nose at the thought, agreeing laughingly--amused by the vivid mental image their new acquaintance had provided her with. Well when you put it that way. It doesn't sound very appealing at all! Like having a stalker in your own head! Pervy lioness..

Giving Yaretzi a playfully slanted look, though Saga had to admit she was enjoying the company of the gold trimmed lioness. Shaking her head as the other attempted to talk some sense into her demure twin. Really it was like talking to a brick wall. The melanistic sister had butted heads numerous times with Himeru in an attempt to force her sibling to toughen up, but her efforts had only seemed to succeed in Himeru's further regression. It's a lost cause, Yare. No one can reach her, don't think I haven't tried to explain it to her. Logic doesn't work on Hime. She's pretty stubborn, actually.

Giggling in amusement as her sister's pale face was pushed into her fur. Shy and embarrassed to be the subject of the conversation and focus point of the two females. I've kind of learned to accept her as she is. Pushin' only seems to make it worse, so I figure maybe--eventually--if I leave well 'nuff alone she'll come into her own on her own, yah know? It's either that or I find her a big bruiser of a mate to keep her safe. Ain't that right, Heee~meeee?

Lilting her sister's name teasingly, Himeru reddened and bleated a bashful "no" though it was little more than a whisper, muffled against dark fur. A sharp grin forming upon the mischievous twin's maw while nipping at pale scruff. Alright Alright.. don't go meltin' on me. Heh... why don't you see if there are any fish in the lagoon? I'm starving. Looking to change the subject to something a little less mortifying for her poor companion, a wry look canted back towards Yaretzi inquiringly. Do you eat fish? Himeru doesn't do a whole lot, but I can practically guarantee she's the best fisher in Africa.

Prying herself from her twin's side Himeru followed her kin's gaze to the lioness as if waiting expectantly for an answer though she was already treading towards the water's edge, tentatively dipping her forepaws in, allowing the liquid to ripple around her as if feeling for any life within the depths of the stillness. Pink nose crinkling with concentration as fine whiskers prickled.

Yaretzi smiled and laughed shrugging her shoulder, neither denying or agreeing about the pervy lion comment. It was her way of being playful she guessed. She'd recently been told she needed to act more playful, loosen up a bit, have a fun time. It was weird experience but she supposed she was enjoying it.

She smiled in an amused manner as she watched the two sisters interact. How cute~ How sweet. She smiled to herself and wondered what it would have been like to have had a sister.

Yaretzi watched as the two sisters interacted with each other, She shook her head and would have gone over to her and sat next to them to make her feel even in the slightest a bit better. "Oh well~ I wouldn't want to upset her further~" She chortled at her joke about the big bruiser of a mate. "Fortunately enough for her~ I don't think it would be too hard for her to find a mate like that, all the males seem to think of themselves as bruisers. If you ever run across a male named Aryaisha, he comes highly recommended." She laughed to herself, thinking about him, Himeru seemed to be the perfect match for him.

She turned her attention the retreating sister as she began to sink into the water and then turned back to Sagassu. "To be honest, I don't think I've ever eaten fish before~ It sounds interesting though. It is after all, quite hard to find them in the desert."

Bah, Hime's not the sort to hold a grudge. S'why I often have to hold them in her name. There are definitely times when she should. Saga stated rather pointedly while tossing a look at Himeru--though she was apparently too distracted by the task at hand to take notice. Not that the older of the pair spent long reprimanding her sibling, attention piquing at Yaretzi's recommendation while they were on the topic of mates. A brow raising as the expression upon her maw grew impish. Aryaisha, huh? We'll definitely keep an eye out for him! I'd like to meet him, since you've mention him specifically.

Careful steps carried Himeru deeper into the crystalline depths until her belly nearly touched the surface. With no moving water to carry the lagoon to the ocean or neighboring rivers it was unlikely that fish would have thrived in the water of the small oasis. Yet by way of water faring birds there seemed to be a small supply, undisturbed by the harsh conditions outside their shelter. Completely docile, they brushed by her forepaws as they swam, completely oblivious to the danger. Leaving Hime to think what a shame it was that she had to betray their trust. Brows knitting as she set her gaze upon one particular individual lagging behind the school of flickering silver darts.

With surprising speed a small paw lifted, barely rising above the water as she slapped at the poor, unsuspecting beast, pinning its wriggling frame beneath her weight and against the softly colored sand causing sediment to rise and cloud the water almost like a smoke screen while the others flitted away to the bottom of the pond amongst the vegetation in panic. They were safe while her attention was focused on their companion, but little did they realize their hiding place wouldn't deter the huntress when their time came.

Sneezing and bristling her whiskers as she was splashed in the face by the stubborn fish, parted jaws collecting the angry bubble-sucker as its mouth gaped. Continuing to fight with great tenacity even as Himeru carried the fat bellied--and obviously well fed--beast towards Yaretzi to lay at her paws. For you... I hope you like it.

It was only proper to serve their guest before the two leopardesses ate. Smiling sheepishly as she shrunk backwards and jogged back to the pond, dripping the entire way but wearing a gleeful expression of pride. Never had fish before? Well you're in for a treat then. Dig in Yare! Sagasu grinned nodding to the scaled creature that had finally fallen still in defeat, amused to see how the lioness took to the unusual meal.

Yaretzi nodded her head in a distracted manner, instead, she was paying close attention to Himeru as she hunted for the fish. Yaretzi herself had tried her hand at catching one every once in a while, and had failed miserably, btu the way she did it, she made it look like an art. Oh, sure, the movements that she made were just as quick and effective as catching a rabbit, or another small animal like that. But the fact that it was in the water, it was almost more magical.

She continued to watch Himeru as she brought the fish to her. She looked down at it for a moment, not sure what to do here. What would she do about the outer skin? How did you peel that back? Are you supposed to peel that back? And why was it staring at her like that?

She looked up at Himeru and smiled thankfully. "Thank you so much." She said smiling. Before turning to Sagasu with a concerned look on her face as Himeru walked away and whispered to her lowly, "How am I supposed to eat this thing?"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 04, 2009 11:14 pm

Amused by the perplexed expression Yaretzi gave her meal it became all the more apparent that she wasn't accustomed to such unique cuisine. A grin splitting her maw as she giggled under her breath. Once Himeru had turned her back and was well distracted chasing now wary lagoon fish Sagasu climbed to her paws, stretched and padded over to drop down beside the lioness so they could converse more easily. It was going to take some explaining to show her the easiest way to get beyond the scaly hide. Hah hah. It's not as hard as it looks, honest. I'd suggest starting from the belly. It's the softest area. You just tear into the center, like you would a regular kill.

The melanistic female tried to explain it simply as she poked at Yare's meal with a single claw, but as Himeru danced up the shore--dripping and carrying another fish for her twin--Saga decided it might be easier to explain by doing.

Taking the still writhing creature from her twin her dark paws held the it in place with it's soft belly exposed, sinking her teeth into the flesh with complete abandon as the leopardess sought to sate her hunger. See.. just bite into it!

Citrus hues lifted to the dark female as she spoke around a mouthful of flesh, having used her claws to dig out the entrails and bits that she held no favoritism for. I've never been much for organs. I usually leave that stuff for the birds!

Yaretzi watched her with a raised brow, wondering how exactly one could get past those scales. They didn't taste like anything, but they sure did have a weird texture to the tongue. She nodded her head, watching Sagasu tear into the fish. She felt like she understood, so she did the same. "Simple enough~" She remarked as she too pulled out the entrails, flinging them over her shoulders and somewhere into the bushes for the buzzards and other lower scavengers to get at at a later time.

She held the fish in her hands, for some reason it's eyes were bothering her, but she decided to look past it and instead went straight for the meat of the fish, taking out a big chunk, chewing a bit and then swallow... what was that? Is there... what kinds of.... bones.... OH GOD!

Yaretzi soon began to choke on the small bones of the fish, she hadn't been expecting them, she almost had thought that these fish were boneless, but sure enough as she swallowed a large chunk of meat with out chewing, a bone had become stuck in her throat, she tried desperately to get it out. Hacking and wheezing until finally, her legs gave out from underneath her from lack of air and she fell to the ground with a enough force to knock the wind, AND fish bone out of her.

Gasping and wheezing to regain her breath she looked up at Sagasu. "This doesn't leave the oasis."
