It wasn't the best day to be out, but Temperance had been through worse. It was morning though it hardly looked like it; gray clouds covered the skies completely, blocking even the smallest ray of sunlight. A cold wind blew from the north, tossing her long striped mane about. Still, Teppy persevered, passing through the thick trees like a white ghost flecked with colour.
She wasn't completely sure how she came to be traveling in this direction. Lately she had been feeling the urge to wander, to leave the safety of her forest home, not far from the human settlement... It wasn't until she had met an intriguing angeni stallion that she actually had enough confidence to get up and go. He had showed her not to be so afraid, and though she still feared coming across an unexpected field or clearing in her way, at least she wasn't confined to familiar grounds now.
A she went, Temperance wondered if her direction of choice had been a good idea. The terrain was rough here, full of rocks and twisted roots. More than once she had taken a bad step and given herself a scare. Still, she proceeded confidently. The trees may have been strange to her, but they were still trees, and that made her feel safe.

Istas clopped her way through the forest. She was a bit far from home, but nothing to different from what she normally did. She often went to a smaller mountain area to see her best friend Claude. Her ears gave a flick, and she could have sworn she heard someone stumble, but it was so early, no one else would really be out and about. she enjoyed her alone time in the mornings. When Forte woke, things got loud at the teepee.
As she chewed on some leaves she saw something white in the corner of her eyes. She turned to look but there was thing.. then red, and then white... What was that?
"Hello?" She had never seen anything like it... Should she be scared? She headed over towards it cautiously. It had the height of a horse, not much larger then she was... But was it truly a horse?

It took Temperance a moment to realize that the voice was not just a strange gust of wind. Her ears went up and she froze, listening intently. Who would be out here at this time of day? Teppy had always been an early riser; she assumed that everybody else slept later, from some of the reactions she got around the teepees if she made too much noise. And did that voice sound familiar?
Moving through the trees cautiously, she craned to see through the branches that liked to catch her mane and pull. There was something pale up ahead... Not paying attention to what was underneath her hooves, she trod squarely on a dry twig, making it snap loudly. Teppy jumped at the noise and scurried ahead, freezing again a few feet away. What was that?

Istas heard the snap and she too, got spooked by the sound. Soon realizing it was just a twig. But the sound had spooked the other so it couldn't have been anything to scary. She nosed her way through the tree...
"OH!" She shriked with a giggle. "The lovely Teppy!" She giggled. Teppy was an attractive mare that Istas had come to be friends with. They hadn't seen each other for a while, and she had a lot to tell her. She wiggled her way closer. She was relieved that it was a friend.

Whatever it was, it was coming through the trees right at her! Teppy held her breath at first but she couldn't stop a fearful, sharp intake of breath... Until a familiar gray muzzle poked through the branches.
"Istas! I thought you were a ghost." A whoosh of relief when through the seasonal mare followed instantly by excitement. She laughed, trotting forward to meet Istas as she wiggled through the trees. "It's so good to see you!" Prancing around, she looked over her friend. It had been a while since they had last seen each other, and Teppy was eager to hear what she had been up to lately. Smiling, she stopped next to Istas. "What're you doing out here?"

Istas laughed and let teppy join her on the other side of the trees. She smiled seeing Teppy pouncing around, happy that she was in good spirits about seeing her.
"Oh man... I was just wandering around. I was thinking of going on a journey. No idea where there. How about you?" Teppy was a good ways away from her home, if she was correct. The two hasn't seen each other in a while, and Istas sure they would have a lot to talk about.

"Maybe we should go together then?" Temperance was quick to suggest when Istas brought up traveling. "I've been feeling a little, I dunno... Bored, I guess?" She laughed a little, still excited. "I just wanted to get away, so I followed the trees here. I'm not sure what's up ahead, to be honest. Just where I've been."
The seasonal mare looked around. "Actually, I'm not to sure if coming out here was a good idea..." She looked up at the cloudy sky, then looked at Istas with a unsure smile. "But maybe I'm just worried over nothing."

Istas smiled. "I think that sounds like a dandy idea." Istas followed Teppy's gaze up. "It hasn't started to smell like rain yet so we still have some time... I'm sure we can find a place to take shelter too." She nodded at the mare. Oooh she was getting giddy just thinking about traveling with the lovely mare. Her love was busy with other things so she wouldn't notice Istas's absence for the time being.
"We should go to th mountains or something"

Teppy sniffed a little. Istas was right; it didn't smell like rain. Being away from home was making her a little more edgy than usual. She grinned, glad that Istas agreed to the idea. "I've never been to the mountains," Temperance admitted with a nod. "Are the mountains nearby? Maybe you should lead the way," she finished with a laugh.

"I've never been to the mountains either." She nodded as she turned. "But I know where they are, you can't exactly miss them." She laughed a little and then nudged Teppy to go with her. Was it really okay for them to just pick up and go like that? It wasn't like Istas needed to tell her love she would gone. She wouldn't even notice really.

Unlike Istas, Temperance had no worries about leaving her home and not going back for a while. The only one who might worry would be her two-legger, but knowing the old grouchy lady, she wouldn't worry too much. "How big are the mountains?" The seasonal mare asked curiously. If Temperance had known better, she would have realized how silly the question was. But the look on her face showed that she seriously didn't know.
She went along with Istas eagerly, looking quite worry-free now.

Istas blinked over at her. Was she really asking that? She laughed a bit and then shook her head. "Teppy, looks infront of you through the trees. Once we clear them, you can see the mountains for yourself." She smiled over at her.
Istas lead the way out to the field... They ahd already done a fair amount of walking. "I think out best bet will beto try and get across the field, before night fall... And then we can settle in for the night." She looks over at Teppy. She wondered how much about these kind of thigns the other mare knew.

Looking where Istas had told her to, Teppy squinted a little. The trees still blocked her view, more or less. She made a 'hmm' noise and started to follow Istas. According to her friend it was across the field and...
A field. Teppy stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes fixed on the space ahead of Istas. She began to shake as fear gripped her. As much as she knew that there was nothing scary about the space, and that it was a silly irrational thing to be scared of, she still couldn't stop herself. Backing up close to a tree, she turned her face away like the sight would burn her. "I'm not going out there..." She said quietly.

Istas had stated to walk into the feild, and she blinked looking back. "Huh?" She didn't understand why Teppy wouldn't go... "Whats the problem? did you seem something i didn't? Oh no! is there like a lion or something!?" Istas flailed about and trotted back to the tree line looking around. But It didn't seem like there anything of immediate danger.

A lion?! For a moment Teppy tensed and looked around before she realized that it was Istas thinking that she was scared of a lion or something, not an actual lion about to pounce on her. Teppy couldn't help but laugh, feeling better as she did so. "No no no! There's no lions here."
"It's just... that field..." She struggled a little. It was really an odd fear. Would Istas understand? She was always afraid of being made fun of for it. Teppy didn't think Istas would do that to her, but she was hesitant to tell the truth. Finally Teppy shook her head. "Nevermind l-let's just go." She took a deep breath and took a step out of the trees.
