A role-play between Impy Kun [Shade Flereous], Roots of the Cosmos [Elst and Aoi], and XxLoveLikeWinter13xX [Verdant and Orpheus].
Location: A small café within walking distance of Elst's nursery, over to the nursery itself.
Time: Late Afternoon.
Weather: Bright sun, high heat, not a cloud in the sky.

AvantGardenInfo
When Elst had first set up his Nursery those many years ago, he’d realized there was a huge walk to even the nearest café, and seeing as he’s always loved the atmosphere they provided, decided to change that. He saved up for a bit, then offered a small incentive to someone he’d met who was looking for a place to start a café of his own; Elst essentially said ‘If you build it near my nursery, I will help you start it up, and you will never need to pay for decorative plants.’ The man of course took the offer, and named it the Avant-Garden after its location and its rather off-the-mainstream style.

Now, Elst visits the café regularly, and the owner generally provides him his tea free of charge. Elst generally stuffs the money he isn't charged into the jar marked 'Tips' the second the owner isn't looking.

This sunny afternoon, Elst sat in his usual spot in the back corner. The large ensemble of potted plants next to his table provided an excellent place for Aoi to hide, and the shade was perfect to relax in. The café was crowded, with a menagerie of enamored couples as usual, but for a different reason: The Avant Garden was a very chilly place, from the air conditioning inside, and the shade out in the patio, and they served chilled drinks. Perfect for a hot day, a hot date. Elst leaned back slightly, sighing a bit.

Today had been far too hot to have many customers, and Verdant was perfectly capable of running shop, so Elst had decided to make a quick visit, enjoy one of those nice peppermint tea-latte things the Avant Garden served. The café had been growing in popularity as of late, he noticed; he’d never seen the café being any emptier than half-full. He’d been talking to the owner earlier as well, and he’d mentioned he was thinking of expanding the building; there were empty lots on either side of the café that were simply begging to be taken. Elst was glad he had his lone table reserved in advance, as he always did.

It was hot...really hot. Well, it was for Shade anyway. He wasn't sure how everyone else was feeling, but he was absolutely BOILING. Black fur and hair was definitely not a great thing to have when it was this warm out. Even dressing in shorts and a t-shirt did little to help his case - what he needed was somewhere cool to take a break for a few minutes. He'd been walking for a fair amount of time and a rest was something he would very much appreciate.

The impling's prayer was answered as he caught sight of what appeared to be a cafe. As he drew closer, he saw that the sign on the building read 'Avant Garden' - he'd never heard of it, but he hoped that the inside of the building would be much cooler than it was outside of it. The boy reached into his pocket, digging around to make sure he had some money on him. His hand met with a few bills and some coins - perhaps he'd buy something to drink while he was in the cafe. He felt parched!

Shade pushed the door to the small cafe open, blinking in surprise as he saw how crowded it was inside the building. He hadn't been expecting it to be this busy. Despite that, the cafe was much cooler than it had been outside - the owner must've had air conditioning or something.

His golden eyes scanned the area for a good few minutes, trying to pick out somewhere he could sit, before he finally spotted an empty table. He wouldn't stay for long - he'd actually been trying to find the nursery that was supposed to be close to this particular cafe. Unfortunately, the impling was terrible with directions, so he was hoping that maybe after getting an iced-tea he'd be able to ask for some help. It couldn't be too much further, right?

Soon after ordering his drink, he began glancing around the cafe again, trying to see if there was anything interesting going on. From what he could see, there wasn't really, other than all the love-struck couples sitting together. This must've been a really popular place for that sort of thing...

His eyes stopped wandering as he spotted a familiar figure sitting a little ways away. At first, he couldn't tell who it was - after a moment however, the identity of the person hit him. "Elst...? Is that you?" Well, it seemed that finding the nursery would be easier now.

Elst stared into his tea, relaxing his body as he leaned on the tabletop. He closed his eyes, if only for a moment, thinking of how his days had gone. Verdant, his sole employee, was an owner now, and of a Magicker Spark no less. Two Magicker owners working in the same Nursery, a rather lovely coincidence. One eye opened, then another, as a familiar voice was heard from nearby. He raised his head, turning around to look at the nearest table, at which sat a rather familiar fuzzy friend, none other than Shade himself. A smile quickly broke open as Elst saw the familiar face.

“Oh, Shade, good to see you again! Come on over, have a seat here so we can talk.” He gestured towards the other chair at his table, grinning. The imp looked a little uncomfortable, he noticed. It must be the heat getting to him, that fur must be dreadful in the sun…

Shade smiled as he saw that it was in fact Elst that he'd spotted. Knowing that he'd found someone in the cafe he knew was a bit of a relief - he felt kind of uncomfortable, sitting by himself around all these couples. Then again, he rarely went out to places like this in the first place.

The impling quickly moved over to the table Elst was sitting at, taking a seat in a chair across from him. "It's nice to see you too..." He'd been wondering how the plant man had been doing, which was half of the reason he'd decided to pay the nursery a visit - the other half was to see it for himself. It sounded interesting to him and it going to look around would probably be better for him than playing video games. "How've you been?"

Elst thought for a moment, on some odd subject or another, before returning to reality and opening his mouth to speak. "Oh, I've been fine, just business as usual, really... And how have you been doing?" He stared down into his now empty cup, and signaled to the employee at the counter for a refill.

"You should try the peppermint tea latte things, they're iced, quite nice on a hot day like this."

"That's good..." Shade's tail swished a bit as he tried to recall if anything interesting had happened over these past few days - he couldn't remember anything. Really, he hadn't done anything interesting since the events at the ball. "It's been pretty normal with me too..."

The impling's ears twitched at the mention of trying the latte Elst was suggesting. "It sounds good - maybe I will." He figured that he'd have enough money left over to buy the drink; he'd just finish his iced-tea first. "Has Aoi been doing good too?"
PostPosted: Fri Jun 05, 2009 8:58 pm

The imp before him recounted a few things; nothing to report, it seemed. Apparently both their lives had been fairly mundane as of late. As the waiter replaced his empty cup with a freshly-filled drink, Elst spoke again. "Oh, trust me, it doesn't just sound good, it is good. Want to try some of mine to see if you like it?" He held up the mug, offering it to Shade, with a smile. He was getting to like the shy soul sitting across from him; Shade had a certain quality to him, earnesty it seemed, maybe something else.

At mention of Aoi, he turned his head, looking around to ensure the waiter had made some distance, then leaned close to Shade's fur-covered face across the table. He whispered; "Aoi's been doing well, quite well. He's becoming much more charismatic, he always seems to know everything that's happening around him too. See that potted fern display behind me? He's in there."

Shade blinked as Elst offered the re-filled drink to him. It certainly smelled good...so why not. The impling nodded and took the mug that was offered to him, his thin tail flicking back and forth behind him as he did. He tentatively took a sip of the latte, his long ears perking up a little as he tasted it. "That...really is good." He was definitely going to get some of it! The fact that it was cold was an added bonus as well.

The boy handed the drink back to Elst, blinking again as the plant man leaned in close. The impling's golden eyes glanced to the pot briefly before nodding ever so slightly - it was good to hear that the little essentic was doing well. "That's good." He made sure to keep his voice low, not wanting to alert anyone of the particular topic of their conversation. "I'm glad that you've both been doing well..." He smiled to Elst, actually feeling relaxed, despite the fact that there were a lot of people in the cafe.

Elst smiled. “I thought you’d like it. It’s got a bit of light coffee in it, and a LOT of ground green tea. Then they blend it with some sort of cream mixture, and whatever it is, it sure tastes good, that’s for sure. It’s fairly healthy, too, from all the herbs they seem to blend in the mix. Not to mention, it’s nice and cold.”

His eyes traveled back over to the fern display, thinking of how much Aoi must have wanted to come out and say hello. “Say, want to head over to the Nursery? As I recall, I still owe you a tour, eh? Here, you can have my drink, so you don’t have to wait to order your own. That way, we can head over soon, I think Aoi really wants to say ‘hi’ to you by now.”

Shade's ears twitched as Elst descibed the mixture used to make the latte. It certainly didn't sound like a blend he'd ever heard of - mixing green tea with coffee? He would've never thought of those two things being in the drink! Either way, the drink tasted quite good, so he supposed that it didn't really matter what it was made of.

The impling blinked as the plant man mentioned going to the nursery. He smiled and nodded at the suggestion - he'd finally be able to check out the place his friends' lived AND he'd get to say hi to Aoi again! "Alright, that sounds good to me..." His smile widened a bit as Elst told him that he could have his drink. "Really?? Thanks!" He looked over to the pot and nodded again. "I'd like to say hi to him too..."

The fern display shuddered suddenly as Aoi made a quick leap to the table, safe once under the tablecloth. Risky, but effective at least. He made a move towards Shade’s feet, giving the impling’s pant leg a quick tug to get him to look down, giving the boy a quick wave before shuffling off back to Elst.

Elst watched Aoi’s antics with a quick smile forming on his face, before looking back over to Shade. He slid his drink over to the boy sitting opposite of him. “Looks like Aoi was a bit eager to get his greeting in… Anyway, drink up; once you’re finished we can head out.”

Shade looked down as he felt Aoi's tug and he grinned down at the small essentic, waving to him in return. He watched Aoi scurry away before looking back to the Elst. He picked up the drink once it had been given to him and nodded a bit as he drank down the latte. It only took a few minutes for the impling to finish it, and he wiped his mouth once he had.

"Alright, I'm ready." He was much cooler than he'd been upon entering the cafe as well, which made him feel quite a bit better. He doubted that he'd have any problems getting to the nursery.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 12, 2009 5:53 pm

Aoi grabbed onto Elst’s jacket, slipping stealthily into the huge hidden pocket made for him in the rather trench-coat-like garment. The impling had downed the drink with astonishing speed, and Aoi was ready to leave. Elst stood slowly.

“My, you sure were thirsty. Let’s go, then?” He finished with a smile, leaving a tip for the waiter on the table as he stretched his legs. He nodded to Shade, and began to walk towards the door, waiting a moment for Shade to follow.

Shade scratched the back of his head sheepishly and nodded a bit - next time, maybe he should drink it a little slower. The impling quickly slid down off the chair he'd been sitting on and followed after Elst, his tail flicking behind him as he began walking alonside the tall plant man. He had to walk quickly, since Elst's legs were so much longer than his, but it didn't cause him too much trouble.

"Is the nursery far from here...?" The impling looked up at his friend, wondering how he could stand wearing that coat in this weather. Perhaps his body could handle to weather better than Shade's could...?
