Saffron returned home after a long day of work. One of the little cubs had wandered off away from the pride... it had taken her half the day to track the little bugger down, but she had eventually found him lost near a river. Poor thing had been scared to death... and it had even been a pup she was fond of, in her own way. He had always been quite polite to her, and his mother had been thrilled when she had brought him back unharmed.
She had even managed to give her weird smile, which the pup told her had improved a great deal as of late. Something she attributed to Gin. Silvertongue. She really had to remember to call him by his pack name more often. But in private, he would always be Gin to her. Someone who had gotten her to feel... more. Saffron had no doubt that she would always be a reserved kind of creature, who showed her feelings rarely, and was certainly almost never moved to making a big deal out of things... But Gin had helped her to realize that she did feel something.
Now she could smile, rarely... and she still thought it looked strange. And her voice, though still mostly monotone, had been known to rise and fall on occasion, which was a big improvement over when she had been alone and had only one personality setting.
"Silvertongue?" She called into their den, wondering if he was back from his own duties yet. "I'm back."

He was nervously awaiting inside the den for her to return. She didn't know it but for the first time in his life-had found something for someone and was intent on giving it to her. It wasn't something profound but when he found it, he knew he had to give it to her. It was just-perfect. It was a small piece of amber, with a bee frozen inside of it. He found it while digging the den deeper, so when they had pups they'd be extra safe. Not that the den diggers didn't do a good job of it.
Anyway, he was busy admiring the little bit of petrified tree sap, thinking about how lovely it looked all yellow and black. He could barely stand it-waiting for her. He should have burst out of the cave a while ago and given it to her-shouting his love and devotion for her.
Course here he was sitting at the bottom of their shared hole, filthy and gross and staring at a rock. He had to sit back and think about how different he was compared to his past... but an image he didn't want to see anymore popped up and he coughed her away. Saffron. He loved her.
He lifted his head upon hearing her voice. "Saffron!" He said softly, tucking the stone under some dirt before emerging

Saffron was a little suprised to see him covered in dirt, but offered her slow, small smile in return. She was so much more peaceful these days... part of it she attributed to the new pack, most of it was because of Silvertongue, because she had finally found someone she was sure she loved. Someone who had taught her the value of a smile and of caring about someone else. And she had to admit, in her entire life she had never had anyone stir real emotion in her except for the dog who sat in front of her.
"What have you been doing?" She asked, tilting her head to the side. Unlike him to get so dirty... not that she really minded. Most things, small things, still rolled off her like water on rock. The only thing she really showed now was that small smile of happiness when she was with Silvertongue that meant so much.
She was certain this was what love was supposed to feel like. It was something she rather liked.
"You're covered in dirt." She mentioned, reaching out and brushing some off his shoulders with care. Though she did seem a little amused by the fact that he had obviously found a project to take care of while she was away.

He lifted his head proudly and softly shook his shoulders, letting the dust and dirt roll off from his silver pelt. He for one was picky when it came to certain things and he was being picky about the den at this moment. "I was making our den more suitable... I thought it needed a bit more space at the end where we sleep. Not that the den diggers didn't do a good enough job-I just wanted a bit more space for when-well... when we need more space."
He stood up and then sat down like he was going to do something-but decided not to. He seemed a bit nervous too, though she didn't know what. He knew though and he didn't know how to go about giving it to her.
"So-erm... whats new Saffron?

She tiled her head a little. He was beavng a little oddly, she was sure of that, though sometimes she missed social cues others would find obvious. But she was pretty sure he was being weird. Why would they need more space...? Well, she supposed when they had pups they would need more space. Maybe he was trying to send a message? Or maybe he just liked having a lot of room. Relationships were so confusing sometimes.
"New?" She asked, tilting her head as her expression moved back to it's usual more monotone expression. "Well... a pup went missing and I spent a good deal of the night trying to find him... just got lost. I found a pretty spot where we could go and eat sometime... nice view." Saffron mentioned, trying to think of anything else... but no, she was pretty sure that was it.
"What about you Silvertongue? Did you do anything interesting today...? Besides digging." She said, not to be rude, but rather because she was already aware he had been digging. The evidence was... pretty clear.

Gin looked around nervously and sort of gave a swallow. Could he even get the strength to give her the little jewel he found? He didn't know, but he had to try too. Without a word he stood and went into the den. Inside he could be heard shuffling all the way to the back, where he pushed aside all of the debris. He then picked up the small rock and turned around with a bit of an awkwardness because he hit his head on the inner wall in his hurry. He grumbled, rubbing his head against his front paw for a moment before coming back out of the den with his dirtied head held high.
He then placed the small slobbery stone on the ground at her feet, where he rubbed his paw over it to get the saliva off. He then lifted his head nobley and with a stern look...
"I found this for you Saffron. It's got a bug in it that looks like you so I thought you'd like it!" he said, rather one worded and winded.

Saffron watched him, tilting gher head to the side as he dug around inside the den. She even winced a little when he heard his head hit the den ceiling. That had to hurt. What on earth had he lost inside there? Maybe he had dropped something, or lost something covered in the dirt? She had no idea. Silvertongue could be so odd sometimes...
The suprise on her face, however, was very blatent when she looked down and saw the tiny bug inside the tiny gem. No one had ever given her anything before, so she was rendered rather speechless, as her mouth opened and closed and she tried to think of something to tell him. But the breath had been completely knocked out of her.
"Oh... wow.... Gin..." She whispered, only managing to say his true name for the moment, because she didn't know how else to put it. "This is... it's beautiful. You think... it looks like me?" She asked, lying down and taking it between her paws to get a better look at it.

Gin was so nervous his stomach was flipping and flopping like a fish out of water. He felt his tongue sticking to the roof of his mouth. Why was he so nervous? Why wasn't he more calm and collected like his old self? Why had he changed so much since his past memories?
"You like it then?" He asked, his golden eyes a bit wide. He was doing good then, to say she looked like a bug? He smiled sheepishly, laying down beside her to look at the rock as well, his head cocked as he leaned against her.

Even Ani was a little suprised by the swell of bizar emotions. A gift. Something very special that someone she genuinly cared about had given her. And she hadn't really been thinking about the bug with the comparison, but more the color. But in her stomach she certainly felt like bugs were crawling around. Where was the emotionless girl who had come to the pack so lost? Ani wasn't sure she had left... but she wasn't the same.
"I... how could I not like it?" She asked, tilting her head as she lowered her eye to look at her new prize. A gift. Something so oddly tangible... "I've never seen anything so beautiful. Or... well, I guess no one has ever... given me anything... but... this... I wouldn't have even known how to ask for this..." Though she never asked for much of anything. But she couldn't quite put her emotions into words.

Gin Smiled. "Well, you didn't have to ask." He said simply, pulling himself closer to her to gaze at the stone. "I will give you presents til the day I die... Because that is what mated so... and anything I find pretty or unique or that makes me think of you I will give to you!"
He straightened up. "And I will tell you why-but bear with me... I haven't told you this before... and I think now would be a good time. " He paused. "I know a female wild dog that i used to be really close to-like seriously very close... like-I loved her... but it didn't work out... and the male she is with now does not give her gifts and I think that every female with a mate should get presents!" He said, his eyebrows narrowing. "Every beautiful female should get things-and by far you are beautiful Ani..."

Ani watched him, tilting her head and smiling her slow smile as she eyed the little gem he had given her. It was beautiful... perhaps she would speak with other members of the tribe and ask how they made jewlery out of such things. She hadn't a clue how. She could find things and she could fight, but she had never been able to make anything beautiful before.
She looked up at him, tilting her head, then she looked back down, "Really? You loved someone before me... that must have been nice. I never cared much for anyone before I met you... But forgive me for saying so Gin... I'm glad that she was..." She searched for the right word, "I'm glad she was an idiot. I'm glad that she took someone who wasn't... as special as you are. Because now... you've given me so much more."

Gin felt releived at her words and could not help but pull himself closer to her and against her, his neck drapping across her. "Oh Ani." He said softly, so grateful for her words. He had felt that way all along. He had just never admitted it. Not even to himself. "She chose someone over me and it hurts but-if she hadn't done that I wouldn't be with you and-happy. I am happy."
He leaned against her and cuddled her and swooned. "I am so happy

Ani couldn’t help but smile a little at him, even if it was just a little smile, “I believe that I have… news to be happy about, Gin.” She said, calling him by the name she had first known him by so that he would know this was more on the serious side, “I believe I am… we are… going to have a family. Sooner than we thought.”
She hadn’t known long, but even she had been able to put two and two together with this one. She wasn’t dumb, just unemotional. But this was something she rather liked. She liked a lot of things lately. “Much, much sooner.”

Gin blinked at her, a bit shocked. Him! A father! He wasn't sure if he was ready-he hadn't been a father before. He felt dizzy almost. He shook his head. "Really!" He said astonished. What if they had like-30 babies and he couldn't keep on eye on them and he lost one or two...
"I hope I will be a good father..." He said softly

"I am certain that you will." Ani told him, meaning it, "You tell such lovely stories Gin... and are so kind. I believe that the children will like you when they come..." She looked down at herself, "And I am sure that they will be special..." Far more special than the other woman's children could ever be. Or that other woman... whoever she was, for that matter.
It was odd, the sense of pride she felt now that she had Gin, and her family... safe for the first time. A home and a real family for the first time in her entire life. She had people who loved her.
It was a first.
"We are going to be very happy." She promised.
