Is it true that if you bleach black hair, it turns orange? You see, I've been reading Bleach. (Don't get the wrong idea on what the series is about!)
The main character, Ichigo (Yes, strawberry), has orange hair. His teachers and other students always assumes that he's (Yes, a guy named strawberry) some kind of a delinquent, because of course in Japan, you don't really see orange hair commonly unless a person's original hair has been dyed. (Of course no one makes a big deal about the literally red headed lesbian who is in the same class as Ichigo, but she's a minor character and Tite Kubo probably doesn't want to draw attention to her, so whatever. And then there's Orihime, a main character who also has orange hair, but from what I've heard, it might've been some kinda coloring error) Ichigo's hair is naturally that orange, so these assumptions made by other people bother him sometimes, because they're wrong.
And this is where I think the title comes from. Many a person has been confused about the title's name 'cause the story is about spirits and soul reapers and action and all that shounen-y goodness and well, the actual usage of bleach, whether it is for clothes or hair, isn't mentioned.
Now, I jumped to the conclusion that if you dye naturally black hair with bleach, it would turn orange because otherwise the series's title would have made little or no sense. (Now, the author said that he named it Bleach because the color black is associated with soul reapers and bleach is whitening and a direct contrast with the color black or something like that, but the above theory makes a bunch more sense to me)
So - Takes a deep breath-
Do you think this is true? 'Cause I totally want to make my hair turn orange now. 3nodding

It's not exactly true. My hair's nearly black and when I bleached it, it just turned this funky shade of brown. Kind of brassy, kind of....on sepia fire. I'll see if I can find a picture. EDIT: here you go. This is what it looked like. I clipped back the lighter layers and the darker ones didn't even bleach. I really did look like I was on fire. >_>

I'm terrified of changing my hair color! My hair is a medium brown right now, and I worry it would look stupid on me if I did anything else. But you looked really cute with that hair color, Weird, and if you do bleach your hair, Amber, I would love to see the result!

I'd love to have white hair! But as you can see, my hair likes being dark.

I got a perm once. The lady blew it and I looked horrible. Even my mom agreed. I cried for days. And I wore my hair in a ponytail for years. Before that I had usually worn my hair down. Even now, some 15 years later, I still wear my hair up almost all the time. Call it long-term emotional trauma! How long did it take for the white to grow out?

I had orange hair once when I was in high school. I couldn't stand the bleach making my scalp itchy, so I had it washed out before my hair turned blonde. It looked weird... >_>
Anyway, as far as the title goes, I figured it was something that had multiple meanings. Bleach could be in reference to Ichigo's hair, but I always saw it as a reference towards the work the Soul Reapers were doing: cleansing souls and ridding the world of a threat.

You could have brushed it or washed it.. that usually ruins a perm and brings it back to normal xD
And I went into my room and refused to come out until they colored my hair brown again... >.>;;;;

I tried the brushing and washing thing. Turns out my hair takes a perm a little TOO well! All I had wanted was a body wave!
Good call, by the way. I would have colored my hair back, too!
@ Kabuki: You had orange hair? You should post a picture...
