Art by Rapidashtrainer heart Don't be fooled by Myu's cute exterior because this kitten has got claws. To most, she appears very cold and uncaring of others feelings, but she is very dedicated to things she tries to accomplish. Also she actually is very caring when the cause is something she truly believes in.
Myu doesn't trust that easily, but once you gain it, you will have someone who will fight for you 'til the end of time. She will be so dedicated and loyal to the people that she cares for. I guess, in a way, the hard work that it takes to gain her trust is well paid off.
One negative quality that Myu possesses is she acts on her own accord, regardless of the outcome that may occur. She is practical and precise, so she tries to limit her acts on impulse.
Myu is also a very private person. She doesn't like to reveal her emotions all that much and tends to keep them and herself locked up. She feels that if she shows her emotions that it's showing weakness, and she wants to appear strong so people won't down on or think differently of her.
She does seem to really like FooFoos...
A few words to describe her would be: determined, realist, rash, pretty rational, and somewhat cold.

Nyx is the exact opposite of Myu. She could be seen as a happy-go-lucky type of girl that sees the best in all people and always looks on the brighter side of things. In some aspects, her positive personality is actually really good for Myu, though Myu would disagree.
Nyx loves to joke around and have fun, so she finds it fun to mess and pick on Myu, which causes Myu to get angry.
Nyx is a huge people person. She loves to socialize and talk and just have fun. Even though she loves to joke around and have fun, she too is very determined and focused when it comes to getting the job done. It probably has to do with her excess energy and the fire that burns inside her. Once she starts something, she has to see it to the end.
One thing you should avoid though would be getting on Nyx's bad side. Once you do, there is no coming back. She gives people the benefit of the doubt but if you keep on abusing it, you are just digging your own grave, and if you ever mess with one of her friends or someone she cares about, she will stop at nothing until you get what you deserve.
Nyx died at the age of sixteen due to knife wounds on her way home.
A few words to describe her would be: positive, happy, loyal, airhead and intelligent at the same time, and fun.

Nyx's End
Another streetlight burned as darkness began to shroud the long narrow street. All that was visible to the eye was darkness...darkness and shadows. There was no security of light aside from the few specs of light provided by lampposts. The walk seemed long and yearning to be in light?s warm embrace become even more prevalent with every step that the petite girl took.
Nyx let out a loud sigh. It was her own fault that she allowed herself to stay out so late. If she had left when her friends had told her, she wouldn't have to walk in the dark. She didn't mind the dark though. The only thing she was worried about was her mother's reaction. She was out way past curfew, but it's not like she lived in the bad part of town. She could just explain to her mother that she lost track of time. Her mother would believe her too since Nyx was so responsible...most of the time.
"I should call my mom," Nyx decided. "She's probably getting worried." She reached inside her bag and pull out her cell phone. She slowed her pace down, and the phone droned in her ear while the pit pat pit pat of her boots echoed on the asphalt.
"Heh...no answer," she gibed. She closed the flap on the cell and stopped in her tracks.
THUMP! THUMP!
Alarmed, Nyx quickly turned around. Darkness...
"I'm fine," She reassured herself, "Yea, just fine..." She forced a smile and continued walking.
Pit pat. THUMP! Pit pat. THUMP!
Nyx hastened her pace, sweat forming on her brow. She didn't know what or who was following, but she had to get out of here, out of the darkness and to the light.
Pat. Pat. THUMP! Pat. Pat. THUMP!
Tears formed in her eyes. "Is this a joke!" She exclaimed. "If anyone's there, show yourself! I'm not scared of you!"
Silence.
Nyx bit her lip and quickly dash forward. 'I must get home. I must get home.' She thought as many other fears raged in her mind. 'I won't die...I can't die. I'm...too young.'
She left as light as a feather as she feet propelled her forward. Home...home is where she needed to be when suddenly she was jerked back.
Tears had seeped their poison and were now flowing out of her.
"Please!" She cried uncontrollably. "What do you want?"
A knife gleamed and then...darkness.
Nyx's New Beginning Nyx clinched her eyes shut and waited for the excruciating pain that would soon follow the sight of the knife that kept flashing in her mind. Waiting...waiting...Nothing.
She quickly opened her eyes to see nothing but more darkness. The thought of darkness sent chills up her...wait...There was nothing of her body left to be seen.
"Where am I?" she exclaimed holding out a hand that would be there, yet it seemed to be translucent if not there at all. She continued looked at herself, and her whole body was invisible. She tried grabbing at her once shoulder length blonde hair, but she seemed to go right through herself.
She could feel tears form in her eyes, but nothing could fall. They weren't going to fall either. The only thing that was falling were the scarlet raindrops seeping from a laceration on her neck, and yet she felt no pain at all. She just felt weak and felt like she suddenly lost control of her body.
"Is this how my life is going to end?" She wept. "I wanted to apologize to my mother...and now I won't be able to. Because of my stupidity, I won't be able to see my mother again! I won't be able to live." At this moment, if she could move she would have collapsed to the ground in a fit of tears.
"Am I...dead?" She muttered her heart pounding with every fake breath that she took.
She panted a tad more, her anxiety getting to her. "Is this how I will continue living...in this darkness?!" She cried out angrily, those tears would be falling now.
"No..." boomed a voice from all sides. It spoke loudly and yet, it had a soothing way about it. "You can live in the light once more."
"What?!" Nyx exclaimed. "Tell me! What must I do!"
"I can not restore your life to your body, but your soul will be sent to another world as a Spirit in order to accomplish a very important task. I will not give much information on the situation, but all you need to know is that an evil force will threaten this world and the young warrior that can stop this will be born. They need guidance and nurturing...you must do this. Will you accept you fate?"
"If it means I can exist once again, count me in!"
Myu's beginning The tension of the still air could be felt from miles away. You could just see the lifeless meadow's hair stand on end, but nothing moved. It seemed as if the meadow it's self was dead. Flowers and leafs hung while blades of grass stood straight not moving an inch.
Stillness.
The sky that looked down on the meadow had a greenish tint that foretells that something has yet to come.
There was silent uproar in the sky until a loud roar is heard. It echoes throughout the whole meadow. Suddenly, the winds start to pick up and a funnel starts to form in the sky. It tears through like a cyclone in the sky when just as it appeared it suddenly begins to lower it's self closer to the ground while it begins to disperse or solidify to the middle. With one last whip of the swirling wind, it reveals a small child with cat-like features sleeping soundly.
The wind blew slightly blowing the pink scarf around its neck. It lightly brushed the creatures face causing the creature to open its eyes, blinking ever so slightly. It looked to pout a bit, but it let out a yawn.'So you're awake then?'Came a voice deep within the creature's consciousness. The voice had a happy tone to it, but it also seemed very soothing.
Confused, the cat-like creature looked the meadow and let out a mew.
The voice laughed, 'You won't find me. I'm invisible. OoOoOoo.' The voiced laughed again.
The creature frowned, not amused.
'Sorry. Sorry,' The voice apologized with a laugh.'I didn't mean to upset you...No sense of humor, I guess.'
It mewed in response.
'Anyway, I guess I should tell you who I am. I'm Nyx! Nice to meet ya! I'm your Guardian Spirit!' A warm aura seemed to surround the creature, a nice lovingly embrace.
Mew.
'Hmm...all you can do is...mew. Hey, I know...why don't I call you Myu? It's sorta like 'mew' but different at the same time. You like it?' Nyx's spirit smiled waiting for any type of response.
It mewed somewhat happily.
'Alright then! Myu, you are going save this world.'

Snow and Mari: Snow was the first Zahdl that Nyx and I met. He seemed very knowledgeable about Avryn, considering he was quite older than I. He's polite enough, but he also seems a little too kind. That kindness may be his downfall seeing as it can be taken advantage of. As for Mari, she seems more cynical than Snow. A complementary pair... I like Snow. He seems really nice, and I actually think that Myu looks up to him or something. Maybe because he's older? Who knows. He is such a nice, warm person. Could that explain it? Eh. Myu's complicated... Mari seems very intelligent, and I guess you could say I'm slightly jealous of the relationship she has with Snow.~ Tae and Xi-Xi: Tae has too much energy for my liking. He seems like he likes to hug and basically be physical with people, which I'm not fond of at all. I like my personal space. I feel that if he were calmer and quieter, my time spent with him would be much more enjoyable... Xi-Xi, I find, to be a very nice person...I don't really have anything else to really say... I love Tae, and that's basically all I can say! He is so cute! I just want to love him to death~! With Xi-Xi, I haven't really had that much interaction to really form an opinion...~ Cloud and Midnight: Cloud is a very quiet Zahdl who happens to be very keen to his surroundings. He seems to speak through his guardian, which makes me wonder why he doesn't speak. Regardless, it doesn't bother me. It's quieter, but I do wonder if it is a way to shelter himself? With Midnight, she seems a tad superficial with my appearance...Other than that, I find that she is a very wise person...She seems to generally care for Cloud, which is a nice quality for a guardian. I think Cloud is cute as well, but there seems to be some insecurity that seems to loom around him. He's pretty quiet too...I hope he'll be able to open up someday...He's a cute kid, and Midnight is a very pleasant person to be around. She seems very keen...~ Falco and Sarah: I find this Falco to be a very lively, but at the same time, inquisitive. He really seems to want to know more about his environment...which is a very good quality to have...He also seems quite determined to save the world, but he seems too concerned about others and enjoying himself. That could be a draw back...but if he's determined, I will work with him and call him an ally. He did call me a utensil...Though I've been making him sick lately. I'm not too sure if I like it...With his guardian, Sarah, she seems very intelligent and practical about things... I love Falco's energy! He is absolutely adorable! I guess it's a good thing that he seems very determined as well, but he wants to enjoy and have friends...Maybe it could rub off on Myu...? Doubt that...But she does seem to be having some concern for him. That and she seems to be expressing some emotion with him. Hmm...As for Sarah, I really enjoy her personality. We seem to complement each other way, and I finally get to have girl talk with someone~! Yay!~ Page and Cosmic: I've only met him briefly, but he seems like he avoids social gatherings as well. Who knows?

I'm going to cross-post the Quest RP (Caught up...Continued on next post.) Snow and Mag: M's characters Myu and Nyx: seeingwhenblind's characters.Quote: Snow approached the bridge over the rather threatening gooze. The air around him, or rather Mag, shuddered, and the temperature around him dropped a few degrees.
'We're not going over that, are we?'
Snow laughed at her enquiry.
"What do you have to worry about, Mag? It's just a little slime."
'But still...'
Snow shook his head, still smiling.
"Lady Perla said that it's perfectly safe to cross over. Even if we did fall in, I'm sure we could just climb back out."
'Says you.'
Snow just shook his head again and stepped out onto the bridge, trusting his guardian to stay with him...
Snow gingerly made his way along the first stretch of the path, concentrating. He stopped as he turned towards the first bend.
'What's the matter? You're doing fine.'
"Okay," Snow nodded and continued down the path. He made it past the second and third bends before...
'Look out! There's some slimy gunk on the path!'
"Where?" Snow asked, as he put his foot down directly into it. The slippery gooze caused his foot to slide out from under him, sending him sideways off the path.
Sploosh.
Snow sat up to his waist in slime, thankful he had landed in one of the shallower areas. He couldn't imagine what it would feel like if he had landed in the slime up to his shoulders or worse, over his head. Slime oozing off the backs of his hands as he picked them up, he grimaced in disgust.
'Told ya so.'
"Thanks for the warning."
*
"I don't know if I like this place," Nyx's voice quivered. She had felt uneasy ever since Myu decided to "go on instinct." Myu had a feeling that something was drawing them towards something. Like a magnet, she was attracted to a force, a force that brought them to a building surrounded by a lake of goo.
Myu's eyes narrowed. "Sheesh, Nyx," the infant said telepathically. "If you have a feeling about something, you must act on it." She paused as she surveyed the area, her small body hovering ever so slightly above the ground.
"I know. I know." Nyx replied with a sigh. She knew that when Myu got her "feeling", there would be no stopping her, and Nyx was going to have tag along.
As Myu looked around, a bridge caught her attention.
"Don't tell me we?re going to cross that bridge."
"Fine. I won't tell you then." Myu replied quickly as she hovered towards the bridge. She looked down and scowled as she looked down at the goo.
"Myu," Nyx began, "...you know that if anthing ever happens...I?ll be here. I?ll protect you."
Myu smiled slightly. It obviously made her content. "...Whatever." Myu scoffed as she approached the brigde, but a small hint of a smile still present on her face.
*
Snow hauled himself out of the muck, trying to brush the, for lack of better word, stuff off his clothes as best he could with his hands. Deciding it was futile, he moved back over to the bridge and began to pull himself onto it, much as one would if they were attempting to get out of a swimming pool. In the process he only managed to get more ooze on the bridge.
"I'll have to get that off later," he murmured half to himself. Sitting on the edge, he pulled off one of his boots and upended it, dumping slime back into the pool.
'Hey, Snow...'
"What is it, Mag?" he asked, examining the boot to see if it was good enough to put back on again.
'Is it just me, or is there somebody else over there?'
Snow, sensing the general direction that Mag's aura was pointing in, turned and smiled, offering a tentative wave.
*
"Hey, Myu, look!" Nyx exclaimed happily, her aura seemingly growing harmer as well as gesturing in the direction towards Snow.
"Nyx, hush!" Myu hissed back as she stared back at the male whom was waving at her. She felt very uncomfortable and felt the urge to run but Nyx. Nyx would not allow her to run. She was going to make Myu stay. She was going to make her...be nice.
"Oh come on, you should be more trusting! Come on. Say hi." Nyx urged.
Myu scoffed, as she debated about being "friendly" or just running away. Wait run away? Myu never ran away. She would face anything; no matter how uncomfortable it would make her feel.
"Well..." Nyx urged again. She was always the type to socialize. She loved people and always needed social interaction to survive.
Myu sighed in defeat, "If they want to talk to us, then...they should come to us."
"No fun at all."
"...Fine." Myu hovered slowly over towards the male in question only to stop half way.
*
'Hmmm, that's strange,' Mag commented, 'I think it's another Zahdl.'
"Why do you say strange, Mag? I think it's wonderful," Snow whispered, wondering why she would phrase it that way.
'Well, it's just that the only other people we've met so far have been a few humans and a dwarf. This is the first other Zahdl we've run into.'
"Well, you spent most of the time dragging me around once we bonded..." Snow responded, smiling.
'What's that supposed to...hey, they stopped...'
Snow shrugged, not worried.
"Maybe they're shy or something. We should say hello." Snow said, as he put his foot back in his boot with a small squelchy sound. Acknowledging another warning from his guardian about the slimy pathway, he made his way down the bridge, stopping a few feet short of the newcomer. Smiling warmly, he greeted her.
"Hello. My name is Snow. I don't believe we've met?"
*
"Say hi, Myu! He seems nice!" Nyx urged on, causing Myu to get a little irritated. If Myu could, she would have obviously glared at Nyx by now. It?s not like Myu didn?t like people. She just doesn't want people to get close to her..., so they won't see her weaknesses.
For Nyx, it took awhile for Myu to actually trust her, well, if you can call the relationship they have "trust". Nyx sees Myu as an enigma; she wants to get to know Myu more, but there seems to be a barrier or a dead end at every turn like Myu doesn't want Nyx to see her true self. Was it out of embarrassment, hate, or even fear? Nyx didn't know, but she would continue trying to break through Myu's thick walls.
"Say hi! Please say hi!" Nyx echoed again. "We haven't met anymore thus far?and don't you think it would be a whole lot more fun if we got to interact with people?"
That question was easy for Myu, but before Myu could refuse, Nyx quickly stepped in.
"Yea...stupid question, but seriously, Myu, you can't continue to shelter yourself. I'm not telling you to change yourself, but come on! Just say hi!"
Myu thought this over. She hated to admit it, but Nyx was right. Ugh, the thought of Nyx being right really irked her. With all thought processes going on in Myu's head, she just stared on at the boy with a blank expression, almost like a deer in headlights.
"Uh...hi," Myu finally said after what seemed to be an eternity. She cautiously looked the boy up and down. She wasn't going to take any chances. She didn't know him or trust his motives, but if she didn't say "hi", Nyx was just going to harp on her and that would just be annoying.
"No...I don't believe we have met." She paused a bit continually looking up this "Snow." "Myu, that is my name..."
*
Snow inclined his head in the semblance of a polite bow.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Myu," he said, smiling gently as he came up from his bow. As he did so, Mag snickered in his mind.
'Nice first impression, if you don't count the fact that you look like the monster from the bog, slime boy.'
Supressing a flush, Snow decided to ignore his guardian's commentary.
"So, then, Miss Myu, what brings you here?"
*
Myu hovered backwards a tad, taken back at Snow's bow.
"So polite! Myu, why can't you be polite!" Nyx exclaimed, admiring Snow.
Myu furrowed her brow slighty, "Maybe I would be polite if I didn't have a nag constantly nagging me. Nag. Nag. Nag." Myu scoffed telepathically to Nyx.
"Funny." Came Nyx's not amused response.
Myu smiled slightly and turned her attention to Snow. "I was brought to this on a feeling that I felt. A force that I could not deny, but now I ask you, what brought you here?"
*
"The truth is, I was called here by invitation. The Lady Perla wished to speak to me and this was the location specified." Snow brought a hand to his chin, tapping the side of his face while thinking. "I must admit, there is a strange aura about this place..."
Mag, impatient with the small talk, reached out to make contact with the other guardian spirit.
'Well, for all we know, the "Lady" is doing her freakish magical experiments again,' she drawled.
"Mag..." Snow sighed, "You know that she wouldn't do anything dangerous..."
'Hmmph. Wouldn't put it past her,' Mag said huffily.
*
"Whoa, wait!" Nyx cried incredulously. Still shocked, she directed her confusion towards Mag. "Do you mean to tell me that you're a Guardian Spirit as well!? She was just so excited about finding another Guardian Spirit that she totally disregarded that comments about Lady Perla.
Myu rolled her eyes at her naive partner. "Obviously, imbecile." Myu gibed in disgust.
"...Sorry...I don't know. It's just exciting...is all." Her aura seemingly shrinking a tad.
"...Whatever." Myu replied starting to feel sorry for snapping at Nyx. Myu always said the things that came to her mind...even if they did hurt others feelings. You could say that she is brutally honest in a way. "But invitation you say..." She stopped to ponder a bit. "If there isn't a problem with it, do tell us all you know about Lady Perla. Could there possibly be a connection with us being drawn 'here' as well?"
*
"Well, I think..."
"It is a distinct possibility that your being drawn here is related to Lady Perla," Snow interrupted, before Mag could get in another rude comment. "The lady is currently considered the top specialist on Zahdl and Guardian Spirits, falling just below the Librarian for informative purposes."
"She's friggin' weird, that's what she is," Mag stated. "If I had eyes, they probably would have been blinded the first time I saw her."
"Mag..." Snow warned, voice troubled.
"What? Oh...erg...sorry," Mag said sheepishly, realizing what she had said. Snow shook his head, sighing, but dismissing the matter.
"Anyway," Snow said, continuing his previous train of thought, "It might have been possible for her to bring you here, if not for the fact that she seems to have disappeared after inviting us. We attempted to send a reply before the specified date to come here, but our letter was returned unopened. We came here, partially to answer her summons, but also to see if she was alright."
"I'm suprised that the damn building isn't full of holes yet, from her damn experiments," Mag said, snickering slightly. Then she continued in a lighter tone, "I was hoping she could tell me more about guardian spirits. You're the first other one I've met so I really don't know all that much."
*
"To be perfectly honest, I really don?t know or understand anything..." Nyx thought out loud. This whole time, her being in this world, the questions just seemed to keep on piling up. Zahdl. Her being a Guardian Spirit. None of it seemed to make sense. What are these Zahdl? What is her purpose? Does she have a purpose or is she just here? These thoughts just seemed to constantly rage in her mind. Sure, she accepted the responsibility to "guide another soul", but what does this all mean?
"Not everything needs an explanation. Things just happen for a reason, reasons that may be unclear." Myu said bluntly, breaking Nyx's thought process. "Nyx, you are here, as am I. We have a reason for existing. We just need to find it."
Nyx digested what Myu said. She was right, well, Myu always seemed to be right when she "lectured" Nyx. She just seemed to understand things more and tended to keep a level head. "Thanks, Myu. I think...I really needed to hear that."
"Sure." Myu responded nonchalantly. "Though, I'm quite curious about this whole thing. Lady Perla and running into you, another Zahdl. There are my many questions and answers I seek."
*
"The Lady should be inside. Although nobody has heard from her, nobody has seen her leave either." Snow turned his head to look at the large monolithic building, and sighed. "I recall her telling us that she had not yet mastered teleportation spells, so that may be a small blessing."
"Yeah. Less chance of her spreading her craziness," Mag said, chuckling.
"We should probably hurry. If one of her spells did go wrong, then we should probably find her sooner rather than later," Snow said, grimacing at the thought. He walked a few steps down the path, before turning back to look at Myu.
"Shall we?"
* Myu stared at Snow, while thoughts continued to orbit in Myu’s mind. Was he asking her to join him? He was. Should she honestly trust him...trust this Snow? Sure, he seemed nice, and he appeared to be a Zahdl, as was she, but she honestly didn’t know him. No, he didn’t earn her trust yet.
"Come on, Myu, you were the one that said that you wanted answers. Here's your chance. Here’s your chance to find the answers!" Nyx exclaimed merrily.
Myu scoffed. Of course, Nyx would be happy. She trusted so easily and just wants to be around people. It's kind of disgusting. There are times...when you should be alone. People should learn just learn to depend on themselves. People will just end up leaving in the end, and in the end, only you will remain. So if only you remain, why should you associate with people? We will be alone...but...
"Alright. Let's go."
...sometimes there are times that being around people is beneficial. Sometimes...you need to be around people in order to grow.
*
Snow nodded at her affirmation, and began to walk down the path. Deciding to err on the side of caution in terms of balance, even though it had been the slime that had made him slip before, he spread his arms wide and moved carefully down the path, putting each foot down firmly before moving on ahead.
"Be careful. Another slippery spot just before the bend ahead," Mag said, deciding to give him more of a prewarning than before. Skirting the slippery area, he walked the last few feet to the door, looking back to see if Myu had followed.
*
Myu hesitated as she watched Snow begin his trek down the path. She wasn't scared or even nervous, of course not. She wouldn't let something as small as this worry her. Though, she was still a little wary.
Nyx seemed to sigh. She was getting tired of this whole thing. "Come on, Myu. If we don't hurry up, we'll lose them, and honestly, if they were going to do something to us, don't you think they would have done it by now.
"True..." Myu replied trailing off. Once again, Nyx was right. We really need to stop making a habit out of this...Nyx being right is just...wrong.
Myu sighed and hovered after Snow, gazing at the slime as she hovered past.
"Aww, Myu, I'm so proud of you!" Nyx beamed, absolutely delighted that they were actually doing something now and that she didn't really need to put up a big fight about it.
Myu frowned, "...Stifle it," Came her response as she notice Snow look back.
*
Moving into the dark room, Snow's feet stirred up dust, which leapt into the air as clouds. Swirling upwards, they tickled his nose, which caused him to sneeze violently several times.
"Gesundheit," Mag drawled, supressing a laugh at his antics. Rubbing the tip of his nose delicately, he coughed a few times to clear out his lungs before moving further into the room.
And managing to trip on an iron candlestick holder that was sticking sideways out of a pile of junk. Snow hit the ground on his side with a soft thud, more suprised than anything else. Rolling over and sitting up, he whispered softly to his guardian.
"Why didn't you warn me?"
"Sorry..." Mag said sheepishly, "Didn't see it either."
*
"Are you ok?" Myu asked as she hovered over to where the sound was made. She was worried that something had happen, and the darkness wasn't helping anything.
Darkness.
Just being in this room, had Nyx scared to death. Darkness. This was the reason why she died. She couldn't see what was coming, and now, she couldn't see what was coming. Was it a sign? Was it showing that something bad was going to happen? Was it...
"Hey, Nyx," came Myu's cool, soothing voice. "What's wrong with you? You're being surprisingly quiet. Not saying I don't mind, but it's weird.?
"Oh...um...nothing. I'm fine, really." Nyx said almost distantly.
"Sure.." replied Myu nonchalantly. "But, Mr. Snow, where are you? I can't see anything at all..."
*
"I'm fine!" Snow called out in Myu's general direction. "I think Lady Perla told me that there's a lighting system of magical orbs set up somewhere in here."
"Oh yeah, that's right! Now I remember!" Mag exclaimed, the proverbial lightbulb going on. "She pressed some kind of ball thingy in the doorframe when we came last time, and the whole room lit up!"
"Miss Myu, if you're still near the doorframe, see if you can find the switch. I landed a fair distance away from the door when I fell, so I'm not sure if I can get back there..."
*
Doorframe. Doorframe. Myu keep repeating in her mind as gazed all around looking for anything that would happen to resemble a doorway.
"I think we came from that direction," Nyx's aura pointing in the west direction, which was not ways away. She hoped her guess was right because Nyx was just anxious to turn the lights on and get out of the dark.
Myu looked in the direction that Nyx was indicating. No. That's not right. "We came from over here," Myu stated bluntly pointing in the opposite direction. She hovered over to where she thought they came and noticed a faint light.
"I believe I found it!" She exclaimed as she quickly hovered towards the doorway. She furiously looked around for a switch. No. No. No. Where is the switch?
"There!" Nyx cried, and Myu darted forward to press it.
*
As the switch is pressed, the lights in the room flare on, revealing the piles of junk in all their glory. Lining the high ceiling of the room are orbs every few feet, the source of the light.
"Holy...that was bright..." Mag said, wishing that she could rub her nonexistant eyes. "Hey, good thing you didn't move forward any more. You would've tripped right over the altar thingy!"
Reaching forward, Snow used the "altar thingy" to lever himself upwards, back onto his feet. One hand resting upon it's surface as he stood there, simply thinking about what to do next. The tip of one ear twitched slightly as it caught the noise of a metal pot falling off one of the piles situated in the corner of the room.
"Now, where could Lady Perla be?"
*
"Wow..." Myu said trailing off as she admired the architecture. "This is simply amazing." She looked off towards Snow and gave him a smile. She had never seen anything so pretty. The lights and the room, it was all awe-worthy.
"Amazing?" Nyx snorted, uncharacteristically. Sure, it was a nice room, but it was covered in all this junk. "Maybe if it was cleaned up..."
Myu simply nodded and hovered over to Snow. "So what next?" Myu said coolly, almost indifferent.
*
"Hmmm....Well, I'm guessing that Lady Perla is not in this room..." Snow said slowly, musing over all the possibilities.
"Yeah, unless one of these junk heaps fell on top of her," Mag said, laughing. Snow's expression melded into one of exasperation. "What? That's possible, isn't it?"
"Yes, but not likely. Please give the Lady at least a little credit, will you, Mag? She isn't a complete fruitcake, like you say," Snow said, sounding somewhat tired.
"Not a complete fruitcake? Then you admit she's at least somewhat a fruitcake!" Mag crowed triumphantly. Snow hurriedly shook his head.
"Admittedly she's a bid eccentric, but I wouldn't go that far!" Snow said, trying to cover up his previous, and mistaken slip. Sighing, he sat down on the altar, placing his head in his hands.
"C'mon, Snow, don't have a cow! I'm only teasing!" Mag said, sounding kind of agitated with his behavior. "I'm sure that Perla's fine! Look, bet you that she's in one of those rooms in the hallways!"
*
"Yes...but how many rooms are there?" Myu said she stared at the boundless amount of doors that were present down the hallway. They seemed to have no end, and in a way, they were disheartening. Sure, they could check all of them, but wouldn?t it seem pointless. It would just waste time...precious precious time. There had to be an easier way...
Easy way. Myu pondered an easier why, but her brain just didn't want to function. It aggravated her. She hated not being in control of things; her brain was now a culprit. Myu sighed, obviously disgruntled.
"Who care how many rooms there are. We're here to find Lady Perla, and if involves extra effort, well...then do it." Nyx coaxed. It freaked her out that she was being more logical than Myu right now. Maybe it was being around people she didn't know that was making her uneasy. Either way, Nyx was loving it.
Myu eyes narrowed. "Yeah. Yeah." Myu said dismissively. "So...should we start looking?"
*
"Well, lessee...I think I remember there being two hallways leading off this room, both with ten doors apiece, five on either side," Mag said, trying her best to remember their visit long ago. "Uh, I think that Perla's office was on the right side hallway, but I don't remember which door it was." She snorted derisively. "Bet she didn't mark it either. "
"If she's anywhere, she'd probably be in that office of hers. I must admit, she did seem rather fond of it," Snow said, remembering her pride at their last visit.
Suddenly, the strange smell in the room seems to grow stronger, an ominous and foreboding aura emanating from within.
"Did you hear something?" Snow asked, straining his ears.
*
Alarmed and on edge, Myu remained quiet trying to hear what Snow had heard. "I heard nothing..." She finally said, but something seemed odd though. She could feel chills run up her spine as she cautiously looked around the room. It didn?t seem any different than before though...
"Myu, do you feel that?" Nyx shrewdly broke in, warning Myu of any dangers that may come.
"...Feel what?" Myu questioned when suddenly a strange scent flooded her nose. It was strong and had sweet smell to it. Myu sniffed a bit puzzled by the smell. Was this here before...or was something among them now? Just the thought of that frightened Myu, though she tried to appear strong as if it didn't faze her.
"I'm not sure I like this place..." Nyx mused to herself.
Ignoring Nyx, "Mr. Snow, can you smell something...? I smell something...sweet."
*
Mag gasped as an overwhelming wave of dread washed over her. As she shuddered mentally, a loud clank rang out across the hall, as a piece of armor dislodged itself from the pile and went spiraling downward. Before her very eyes, the pile began to move forward and upward, molding itself into a new shape.
Big Trash Monster Junkma Appears! Standing at about one and a half times Snow's height, the strange aura and smell seem to emanate from this creature.
"Oh s**t!" Mag yelped, staring at the monster.
"Mag, wha..." Snow started to say, feeling his guardian's anxiety. Then the aura hit him as well, making him grimace at the feeling.
The monster itself still seemed to be getting its bearings, rolling it's head back and forth menacingly.
*
Nyx shrieked as she stared up at that...thing, that monster. She didn't know what it was, but she did know that they had to get the hell out of here. Unfortunately, she felt paralyzed, paralyzed by fear...paralyzed by her anxiety. If she had a body, she would be feeling the cold sweat form while it flowed down her back.
Myu furrowed her brow at Nyx and the monster. Myu simply gazed up at it with a fire during in her eyes. She felt no fear. She felt nothing at all but the fire of desire burning brightly. This was a test, and she was going to succeed. Nothing was going to bring her down. She wouldn't let it. Myu was going to confront her enemy and come out the victor, no matter the cost.
"Nyx," Myu said forcefully, cutting through Nyx's whimpers. "get a hold of yourself. There is nothing to fear. Stand strong, and nothing will defeat us. Right, Mr. Snow?" She said it with so much conviction that it seemed to hype Nyx up. It brought her from a low to a new high.
Myu smiled, her face full of confidence.
*
"I have no doubt that we will overcome any obstacle that comes against us," Snow said, placing a hand over his heart. "Failure is not an option, for any of us."
"R-right!" Mag stuttered, touched by his words. As much as she teased him, she had to admit that Snow was pretty damn cool at times.
"Now, can you tell me more about this monster that we're facing, Mag?" He asked, face settling into a mask of determination. He wouldn't admit it to anyone, but he was feeling quite anxious at the moment. Mag, picking up on this somewhat, decided not to comment, trusting him to tell her if anything was truly wrong.
"The monster is made of pieces of junk from all over the place. It's not even alive per say, so I have no idea how the damn thing got up and moved!" Mag said, peering at the monster closely.
"So, if we find what's manipulating the monster and destroy it, perhaps the monster will colapse?" Snow said, thinking about the possibilities.
*
"I believe that would be a good assumption," Myu directed at Snow in her monotonic voice. A pile of junk just magically moving on its own was certainly not normal, but what was normal? She had no room to talk. What defines normality? It really depends on the person to decide what is and was not normal, but a pile of junk that seemed very much alive. Ok, not normal at all, but if really was being manipulated, who or what was doing it?
"Do you perhaps think that someone or something is trying to scare us away?" Nyx replied trying to contain the quiver in her voice. Though she had a more confidence, that thing still scared the hell out of her.
"That is something to think about..." Myu said digesting what Nyx said. It could very well be true...but Myu couldn?t really be too sure. If something was manipulating the junk creature, they would have to find the source of it.
"If we focus our auras, we could possibly find what's controlling this creature." Myu thought out loud. "Don't you think, Mr. Snow?"
*
The monster, getting its bearings, charged wildly forward, swinging its neck from side to side.
Mag shrieked and Snow, who had been listening to Myu, leaped to one side, landing clumsily in a pile of old sheets.
*
"Oh, are you guys alright?!" Nyx exclaimed worrying about Snow and Mag. She kept telling herself that she needed to be strong. She needed to be strong for herself...and to show Myu that she could be strong. She needed to prove that she wasn't weak. Nyx was going to show Myu that she was worth it...that she was worth protecting Myu and not the other way around.
Myu quickly glanced over at Snow checking that he was ok and that everything was attached. It wouldn't be to good if their "guide" suddenly...well, let's just say, was "injured" in any way.
"Focus!" Myu hissed at Nyx. "Prepare yourself!" Myu then got in a battle ready stance. She quickly glanced at Snow, but then focused on the monster that same fire burning in her eyes.
*
"I'm fine!" Snow yelled, groaning. Happily he had landed in something soft, but there was some blunt object poking into his bottom. Running his hand behind him, he realized that it wasn't some foreign object, but one he was carrying. Pulling himself upright into a sitting position, stretching his wings out to make sure they were okay, he reached into an inner pocket of his clothes, pulling out a shining orb.
[ [Attack Crystal Lvl. 1 (Wind): Allows the user to summon small localized tornados, about three feet tall with a diameter of three feet. Can be used up to ten times.]
"I think that Miss Happy needs that more than you, Snowey!" Mag said, voice playful, but with an undertone of caution. "She's in a smaller form than you, probably doesn't know any magic."
"I'd have to agree with you," Snow said, nodding. Praying he was on target, Snow threw the orb in towards the last place he had heard Myu's voice. "Please Miss Myu, heads up!"
*
Myu heard Snow's call and sensed the small orb that was thrown in the air towards her. She hovered underneath the orb and caught it in her small hands. Looking at it, she was pretty sure that it was a magical orb. She grasped it in her hands and quickly closed her eyes centering herself for an attack.
"What?s that?" Nyx butted in breaking Myu's concentration, causing her to scowl. Nyx just did not know when to be quiet and when to focus. She had the worst attention span, and it just irritated Myu.
Scoffing, "You know so little. This..." Myu said holding up the orb. "...is an attack crystal. You use it to summon magic. Now help me focus, I can only perform magic with your aide." She was sick and tired to explaining things to her. Wasn't she supposed to know things? Wasn't Nyx supposed to protect Myu and not the other way around? Wasn't she...?
"MYU!" Nyx shrieked as her aura created a shield around Myu's small body. The monster was thrashing about and was charging at them.
*
"Snow! They're in trouble!" Mag shrieked as the monster charged. Snow pushed himself off the pile and onto his feet, just barely keeping his balance as his foot snagged on something. Picking it up, he felt metal cool against his hand.
'I hope this works,' he thought to himself, as he used the power of [Charge One] to fill the metal candleholder with electrical energy.
"Now quickly, Snow! To your left!" Mag yelled. Charging forward, candleholder raised high, he jumped, bringing it downward. And missing the monster in the process. Realizing he hadn't hit his target, he threw the pole at the monster, which, by some miracle considering his athletic ability, actually landed on it.
Undamaged, yet distracted, the monster whipped around, long tails crashing into a nearby pile, knocking debris down.
*
Myu stared on a tad unnerved. She didn't even realize that the beast was coming at them. How could she have been so careless? And here, she wasn't even able to take care of herself. She had to rely on others.
"Myu...," Nyx whispered breathlessly, as if almost painfully. "Are you alright?" This had been the first time that Nyx had used any of her powers. It was a weird sensation...almost tingly, but at the same time, it felt like she was being ripped apart. She kept telling herself that it was for Myu, but she didn't know how long she could keep her shield up.
Sensing the pain in Nyx's voice, Myu slightly frowned. "I should be asking you about your well-being. Conserve your energy...we need to help Mr. Snow." She had to do something. People were helping her, but she needed to help them. She clutched the orb tightly and together, she and Nyx centered their energies.
"Ready?" Nyx asked, still a little tired. Myu simply nodded, and the orb shined brightly emitting a strong wind that began to wind together into cyclone that thundered across the room.
*
"Er, now might be the time to get the hell out of here," Mag said, as the monster turned to come after them. Snow nodded and began to slowly walked backwards as it advanced.
Then, as the cyclone hit it, the monster spasmed and collapsed. The heavy wind had thrown it off balance, making it disoriented. The sound of metal grinding across the stonework of the floor screeched across the room, making Snow's ears ring. It's legs flailed in the air, as it tried to get back on its feet.
"Now might be a good time to search for the source of its animation," Snow said, heart pounding. Scanning the room, he saw no likely object that could be it's controller.
"The things probably in one of the other rooms," Mag said, coming to the same conclusion. "I say we start opening doors, before the walking trash heap gets up."
*
Both Nyx and Myu sighed in relief as they saw their magic hit the creature. Myu was quite satisfied while Nyx was still tired and seemed to pant a bit. Using all this energy really seemed to drain Nyx. Still, Myu and Nyx had worked together and actually accomplished something. It made Nyx feel like she actually did something right and that she was worth something.
"I'm so happy..." Nyx exclaimed happily still panting with every breath. "I'm so proud of you, Myu."
"Yes, but don't think that is the end of it. There are probably more things we must face. Stay alert." At that, Myu hovered over to Snow. "We should leave before it wakes up again."
"Where to? One of the rooms?" Nyx said regaining herself though still feeling weak. She just hoped that every went smoothly now. She didn't know how long she could protect Myu in her current state...
*
"Alright, let's go." Snow said, breathing heavily.
"I say we start on the right hallway! After all, you can't go wrong if you go right!" Mag said, trying to lighten up the atmosphere. Snow just shook his head at her and began to walk down the path. Of course, nothing happens without incident, and Snow once again tripped over something just outside of the entrance to the hallway.
"Er..." Mag said, feeling somewhat guilty. Snow sat up pushing his hair out from where it had fallen in his face.
"I would like to keep myself intact for at least another few hours, Mag?" Snow said, trying not to sound to angry at his guardian. Getting up, he rested one hand on the doornob of a nearby door, as he restored his center of balance.
*
"Mr. Snow, you seem quite clumsy. I hope you are not injured." Myu said trying to be sympathetic. She was still trying to lighten up to them, but sometimes the things she would say sounded a little harsh. Though, she wasn't here to make friends. She was here to get answers, and he was needed to guide them around here since he knew the place. She felt like she was using him..., but if it benfited her, she would continue on.
"Nice to see that you are actually caring about other's well-being." Nyx snorted sarcastically. She could dish out some sarcasm when it was needed. She could also give Myu a taste of her own medicine; Myu just seemed cold at times. Sometimes, Nyx wondered if Myu knew what came out of her mouth sometimes.
"I wished that he wasn't injured, correct? I believe that shows I care about his well-being." Myu stated matter-of-factly.
Nyx sighed. She wanted to give Myu the benefit of the doubt..., but knowing Myu, she was probably more worried about herself and how things affected her. Sure, she wanted answers too... "Oh well..." Nyx sighed defeated. "Let's see what's behind this door." Her aura gesturing at the door Snow was resting on.
*
Mag silently fumed about the clumsy comment. She was preparing to give a scathing reply, when Snow, sensing her animosity, interruped.
"I don't know what you are going to say, but I'm sure it is not neccessary," Snow warned, giving a stern look. Mag, still angry, but wanting to follow the wishes of her friend and charge, held back her comment.
"Fine. But it's not your fault that you can't avoid all the crap on the floor," she said, somewhat indignantly.
"Let's just move on, shall we?" Snow said, attempting to smile. He gently twisted the doornob and the door began to open, giving Mag a good look inside. Panicking, she yelled.
"Close the damn thing!"
Snow slammed the door in suprise.
*
Confused, Myu looked quizzically at Snow. "Is there something wrong?" She asked as she glanced back and forth from Snow and the door. What was in there that made Mag freak out like that? There were so many questions that surfaced to her mind that she couldn't even process most of them, but the main question that repeatedly itched her thoughts was, 'What was inside the door?'
*
"I am quite curious as well, Mag," Snow said. "Is is something dangerous?"
Mag sighed.
"You can open it if you really want to. But I'm warning you, the result isn't gonna be pretty," she said nonchalantly. Snow, being somewhat curious, opened the door once more.
An avalanche of empty soda cans spilled out, filling the corridor. There were hundreds of them, different brands and languages on each. They washed over Snow in a tumbling cascade, before settling on the floor below about waist height. Somebody had apparently stacked all the cans to ceiling height before shutting the door, and now they were all falling down because of the chaos outside.
Snow, who had thrown his arms up over his face when he heard the first of the cans fall, removed a half crushed can from its landing spot on his head. He made several attempts to say something, but couldn't seem to find the words to describe what had just happened.
"See?" Mag said smugly. "I told you not to open the door."
*
"Ack!" Myu exclaimed as the cans fell out of the door. She tried to hover higher to avoid the cans, but the attempt failed. She scowled as a few stray cans rolled at her feet but also the ones that hit her head as well. She scowled and kicked a can in disgust.
"That was unexpected..." Nyx replied utterly amused and also in awe at the same time. She had no idea what was behind that door but endlessly supplies of cans? Now, that was...unexpected, for lack of a better word. "But...I wonder all this cans came from...Hey, let's see if there are anything else weird behind the other doors!" Nyx's aura grew warm with her excitement.
"I'm not quite sure I want to know..." Myu sighed as she frowned slightly. What could they expect next if they open another door? Cans from this door, what would be next? A dead body? Another monster? There were endless possibilities, and she was probably going to find most of the door mysteries herself... "Oh well...Should we try a new door?"
*
"I didn't even know there was soda on this world," Mag crowed, laughing hysterically. "The look on your face was priceless, Myu!"
"Well, at least they were empty," Snow said, somewhat relieved. "I'd hate to think what would happen if hundreds of full cans had rained down on us."
"Oh, let's try the door across the hall next! Maybe next it'll be pies or money! Yeah, that'd be awesome!" Mag chattered on in excitement. This was one of the best things that had happened since she came to this world. She'd cherish this memory forever.
"Yes, well, that would be interesting..." Snow said cautiously, not really sure what to think. "Would you like to do the honors this time, Miss Myu?"
*
"Yea, let's open the door, Myu! I'm excited to see what is behind the next one!" Nyx sang happily. This was first time in this world that she felt like she was having fun. Nyx just wished that Myu wasn't so serious and would just kick back and have fun. Life is short, obviously, and you need to live it to the fullest. Nyx wasn't able to do that in her world, so she was determined to let Myu have what she didn't have. A life that was worth living for and a life that was full of excitement.
Myu sighed while frowning slightly. "Fine." She said nonchalantly as she hovered over to the door, grasping her small hand on the knob. She hesitated for a second but then slowly began turning so the door could open.
*
Mag stared dumbstruck at the contents of the room.
"Is that even possible?" she asked incredulously.
The room appears to be filled entirely with water from floor to ceiling. Some kind of magic must be keeping it in, for none of it spills into the corridor. Within the water, several schools of colorful fish swim, coral dots the corners of the room, and seaweed waves in the current. Several of the fish hover out to the corridor, circling the heads of the inhabitants before returning to their watery habitat.
"Er..." Snow began, looking to his guardian.
"Well," she said, giggling nervously, "I've seen flying fish, but nothing like this before!"
*
Myu just blanky stared at the room and couldn't help but have her shake back and forth. She was amazed. There were simply no words to describe what she was thinking or feeling right now...Weird. Strange. That could possibly describe the temple, but there was nothing on her feeling. She searched for anyone that could possibly answer this. What was going on?
"What the hell...?" Nyx said growing more and more amused with every door. This place just seemed to get odder and odder with every step they took. She seemed to smile to herself and thought that Myu should go on instinct more often because this place was so much fun. She went from fear to amusement.
Suddenly, Myu just simply turned around. She was just...dumbfounded. She could feel her brain trying to rationalize this whole thing, but it just seemed to give out on her. It didn't seem to understand it either. "I don’t understand this place at all..." She said, seemingly very irritated. She frowned more and let out a loud, long sigh.
*
"Forget her!" Mag exclaimed. "Open the next door!"
Laughing at his guardian's excitement, he walked over to the next closed doorway, and pulled it open. He then stood to one side to let Myu and Nyx see its contents.
An endless sea of stars and galaxies swarmed before them. It spun gently in an arc, a miniature representation of the universe. Stars shot across the sky, racing against one another, while others burst into an array of brightly colored lights.
"Oh!" Mag said, voice hushed in awe.
*
"Wow!" Nyx exclaimed as she took in the grandeur of the room. She had never seen so many stars in her entire life because she lived in the city causing all the lights of life to masks the stars in the sky. These stars looked beautiful, and she felt like she wanted to be one of them, just a ball of gases that burned brightly. Shine and then combust, but she didn't want to fade away. She wanted to be lasting...She wanted to be remembered...not to be...forgotten.
Myu also seemed impressed by the galaxy. She had never seen something like this either. Everything thing seemed so free to what it pleased. She envied them...She...hated them for she was bound by the chains of fate...the chains of destiny. These very chains that restricted her to a life of structure, but Nyx...she was free. Myu...envied her.
Myu furrowed her brow, irritated by her thought process. Envying Nyx, she had to be out of it. She was happy with herself. She had structure and didn't rely on others. That definitely is better than being free.
She scoffed slightly, "This place seems to get even more eccentric with every step me take." With that, she headed down the hall. "New door?...Wait...I think I sense something..." Myu began to survey the area sensing something that didn't seem right. Not right at all...
*
Snow scanned the area, looking for something amiss. Then, suddenly, he picked up on something that he had been ignoring before.
"That odd smell is stronger down in this direction," he said, scrunching up his nose. He had gotten used to it after having been concentrating on other things, but now that he was paying attention to it, it really was quite overwhelming.
"Perhaps the source of it is somewhere in this corridor? If we find it, then maybe..."
"Better find it quickly then!" Mag said, hearing the sound of scraping metal from back out in the main room. "I think junk head is finally getting its bearings again!"
*
Myu listened closely to the sounds that Mag made a reference to. Scrape! She cringed as she heard the sound come closer and closer. The very sound of it made her heart sink and her heart race. She was nervous, but she wasn't going to show it. She just couldn't show it. She had to stay strong for Nyx and...for herself.
"Ack! I thought maybe it would stay out longer than that." Nyx seemed to frowned and was worried as well. She still felt...weak.
"Let's move then." Myu stated simply, keeping her cool. Nyx didn't seem to be up for another fight, and she couldn't very well use magic on her own. It would be useless to hang around and wait for the monster to come find them again, but they hadn't been so careless as to loiter again like they did; they wouldn't be in their current situation. What puzzled Myu though was this smell. It seemed to grow stronger whenever something bad seemed to happen. It was at it's strongest when the junk monster attacked...
...What was this smell that was luring the group to it? Did it have some sort of significance? Whatever it was, they were going to follow it to its source.
*
Snow moved down the hallway slowly, face upturned trying to catch the smell as best he could. Each step hesitant, he moved as slowly as he could, trying to find the source of the elusive stench. Eventually, he came to a stop outside the fourth door on the right, resting one hand on it's wooden surface.
"If my senses tell me correctly, then this is where the smell seems strongest," he said, running his hand down the door to the handle. Removing it, he turned back to Myu.
"Don't you think so?"
*
Myu closed her eyes taking in the environment around her. She tried to focus herself, so that her senses were able to pick up vibrations or waves of any sort. She slowly approached the door and felt huge wave activity emanating from it. She could feel the vibrations ricochet off her body as if they were trying to send her backwards, but at the same time, they were bringing her in. The push and pull was so prevalent that it seemed to have Myu off balance. And the smell, it seemed very strong right here. The smell lingered by her nose for moment. It was so...strong. The waves...the smell...this was definitely the place.
"Yes, Mr. Snow," Myu said indifferently. "This is the place. I sense something great...It's...almost chilling." She opened her eyes and faced Snow. She keeping on asking herself if she should really trust him. It scared her actually. She was allowing herself to be lead by Snow, but the whole thing really frightened her. Snow...he...was here to help. "I'm ready when you are, Mr. Snow."
Despite her anxiety and the fear she currently possessed, no matter what, she was going to go through that door. She felt that the answers to her questions lie behind that door, and she was so close that she could almost taste them.
*
Snow nodded to her, and steeled himself for whatever was behind the door. He placed his hand on the knob, resting for a moment, before twisting it, pulling the door open.
The stench poured out of the room in clouds of billowing pink smoke, engulfing the corridor. Snow recoiled, taking a few steps back involuntarily. He was lucky to have done so, for soon after the smoke had escaped, a thick, puke green liquid oozed its way out into the hall, stopping just past the doorway.
"My god..." Snow gasped, eyes tearing up, "What on earth is causing that horrible odor?"
"My guess is that it's the goop that's on the floor. Nasty looking stuff!" Mag said, very grateful at this point that there was no chance she would have to touch it. Glancing into the room beyond, she could see that it covered nearly the entire floor like a thick carpet. The room held several marble pedestals, raised to waist height and above the goop, along with another shelf that ran around the perimeter of the room. This shelf was covered in vials and bottles, filled with all kinds of liquids and foreign objects. A cauldron in the center of the room, however, was the focus, as it appeared overflowing with the slime, most likely the source. Peering through the fog, she could just see the outline of another door across the room.
"Hmmm, wonder what's in there?" she pondered aloud. Snow, who had apparently decided that holding his nose was the best course of action, became curious.
"In where?" he wheezed in a nasally voice.
"Door," she said, indicating the general direction.
*
Myu scrunched up her nose as the smell flooded her nostrils. It was so putrid that it seemed to burn the inside of her nose causing her to quickly pinch the opening shut so she could lock the smell out. No use. The smell just seemed to burrow its way in. Myu coughed slightly as she felt the urge to gag. She looked at the liquid that was on the ground and scowled. That was the source of the smell.
"I think we should check out that door."Nyx said as she directed Myu in the direction of the door that Mag had indicated. "We can never be to sure what we'll find, might as well check everything. Plus..." She paused slightly as she looked around the room. It looked as if an experiment or something went wrong. Could the liquid be the result of that? The room though just gave her the creeps. It gave her an odd, cold feeling. She was sure that Myu sensed this feeling as well as she could suddenly feel the small girl quiver. Her reaction to this was to use some of the energy she had left to heat Myu.
Nyx then continued her statement, "...this room is creepy. There has got to be something behind that door."
Myu shook her head as if trying to rid herself of the smell and whatever else found its way to her. "Fine." She said, as she cautiously hovered into the room observing anything and everything. She was making sure that nothing would come out and attack her. "I'm going in, Mr. Snow."
*
"Is there any way for me to get across without stepping in the...err...substance?" Snow asked, thinking that it was probably acidic or had other magical qualities that would wreak havoc on his body. The last thing he needed was tentacles growing out of the sides of his feet or something.
"Well, ya got two choices. A, you jump from pedestal to pedestal across the room," Mag paused, just to see the dumbfounded look on Snow's face. "Or, you can just walk around the shelf that runs around the outside of the room."
"I think that option two is perhaps best," he said, smiling sheepishly. "A superhero I am not."
Moving just to the side of the doorway to avoid the leakage, he stuck his leg around, feeling for the shelf. When he hit it, he used the doorframe as leverage, swinging his other leg around and landing on the shelf. When both feet were firmly on the solid surface, he let go, stumbling a few steps forward as he lost his balance momentarily.
"Graceful," Mag commented, snickering. Scowling a bit, he worked his way around the room, stopping where the ledge ended just before the door.
"Miss Myu are you okay?" he asked, looking for the smaller Zahdl.

I'm going to cross-post the Quest RP (Caught up...beginning on the previous post.) Snow and Mag: M's characters Myu and Nyx: seeingwhenblind's characters.Quote: "I'm fine." Myu said answering Snow's question. She had started to hover in the room when she saw Snow walk across the shelves.
"It's a good thing you are so small, and you can...umm...hover." Nyx joked around playfully as Myu continued to move across the room. She too was happy that could hover. Just the sight of the oozy liquid made Myu?s skin crawl. She didn't know what she would do if she actually had to walk in it. Well, she would probably be following what Snow was doing, walking on the shelves.
What would it be like to actually walk? She never thought about it until now. She felt very lucky that she was able to hover, so she could avoid things like the ooze she was avoiding now. But thinking about the future, it was pointless. There would be no future without the present. Don't worry about the future when the life you are living at the moment needs decisions. Your decisions affect the future, and that's all you need to worry about. Dreamers like Nyx are hopeless. They will understand more when reality smacks them on the back of the head...
Myu finally made it to the door and stared Snow right in the eye. Her face was blank, lacking any emotion or expression that she was currently feeling.
"This is actually really exciting!" Nyx cooed, contrasting Myu's nonchalance. All that waited was whatever was behind the door.
*
"Alright. Here we go!" Snow said, smiling warmly. He reached out and groped for the handle, finally catching it in his grasp. Turning it, he pulled the door open as far as he could without abandoning his position on the shelves. When it was open part way, he pushed it outwards, the door swinging slowly through the oozing goop. He leaned outwards to look within the room, and nearly fell off the shelf at what he saw.
"That's!" Mag cried in suprise.
The room, following the general theme of the temple, was indeed a mess. Piles of papers were stacked up waist high around the room. Bookshelves lined the walls, but most of the books had joined the paper in stacks on the floor. Hanging from the ceiling were dozens mobiles, strange amulets and trinkets hanging from strings.
At the far end of the room there was a desk. The cause of Mag's outcry was currently draped over it, snoring away. A young woman was sitting in a large leather chair behind the desk, and had apparently fallen asleep during whatever she was doing. Hot pink hair fell over her face in gentle waves, matching the rest of her outfit, which was made of various other shades of pink. Strapped on her back were a pair of fake plastic fairy wings, the type young children wear on Halloween. She smacked her lips in her sleep a few times, and turned over on the desk, a goofy smile on her face.
"Well, I guess we've found her," Mag said, getting rather pissed off.
*
"So this is Lady Perla..." Myu said scrutinizing her and the room that they had just entered. They say a messy room indicates a cluttered mind. Could this possibly be true for Lady Perla? Is she a scatter brain or of the sort? For some reason, Mag obviously didn't like her, and Myu, for the most part, usually agreed with Mag. Maybe this would mean Myu wouldn't like her. Well it appeared she fell asleep on the job, so that could possibly give you a look into her personality.
"Wow. She's really pretty." Nyx replied examining the poor girl as well. It seemed like Lady Perla was on display and that she was being watched, judged, and criticized. Nyx actually felt pretty bad for her. What got her was that she looked so young. Did she really know all there was to know about the Zahdl? Nyx couldn't possibly imagine. She looked about the same age she used to be, and Nyx didn't know everything there was to know about something. Pretty scary, actually.
"Should we wake her?" Myu asked directing at no one. She wondered what Lady Perla would say and if she would be able to answer some of things that plagued her mind...but also if she was the one controlling the junk creature, and if not her, then who?
*
"Hell, yeah, we're waking her up!" Mag cried, snorting derisively. "She calls us all the way out here, to face ooze and moving junk piles, and then falls asleep on us? Uh-uh, no way!"
"Mag, don't you think you are overreacting just a tad?" Snow said, trying to calm his guardian's raging temper. "We did take a long time to get here after all..."
"You're just defending her 'cuz you have a crush on her, don't you?" Mag yelled. Snow's eyes narrowed.
"That was a long time ago! I've gotten over it!" he said, spitting out the words angrily. Mag just humphed.
"Ever since we arrived, it's been Lady Perla this, Lady Perla that. Pretty damn suspicious if you ask me!" She drawled.
"Oy..."
"You stay out of this!" Mag and Snow both yelled at the same time. Lady Perla blinked, not fully awake, and looked at Myu and Nyx.
"Is there some sort of problem?"
*
"Oh...um...uh..." Nyx muttered unsure what to say. It was odd seeing Snow and Mag argue. It was a pretty natural thing for Myu and Nyx to have a disagreement and fight with each other but Snow and Mag? It was pretty sad. They seemed to mesh really well together...What was up with this whole Snow and Lady Perla thing...?
Myu glanced over at Snow and shook her head. She then turned her attention to Lady Perla. "I believe there isn?t a problem...that can not be handled at a later, more appropriate time." It was petty. This whole Lady Perla and Snow thing was just stupid. It was insignificant. Why did it even seem to matter? Perhaps Mag was jealous? Why? If Snow happened to care about someone else, then shouldn't he be allowed to? Myu didn't see why though. Love. Companionship. There was no use for it. You will just be let alone in the end, so you should become independent now. Snow. He would leave Myu as soon as this was over, and Myu wouldn't care. She and Nyx would go off and follow the road wherever it happened to take them, and the same would go for Snow. No point getting attached. He will go...just like everyone else will in the future...
Nyx still was hesitant. Myu seemed to handle it...sorta. There was obviously a problem though, but how could they go about this whole thing with out being awkward? They finally found Lady Perla, and this catastrophe happened...
*
Snow sighed shaking slightly. Myu was right this wasn't really a good time. Besides, it was such a foolish arguement to be having at any time.
"I'm sorry Mag. I didn't mean to yell," he said softly. "I think it is just the stress of being in such a dangerous place that is irritating me."
"Keh. You know I'm always in a bad temper," Mag said, chuckling slightly. "I don't mean half of the things I say. I shouldn't have baited you like that."
"Yes, Mag," Perla said smiling brightly. "Don't rub salt in old wounds."
"Shut it, you," Mag grumbled, "We're having a moment." Snow began to laugh, Mag chiming in soon after.
"Well now!" said Perla clasping her hands together happily. "Now that we're all friends again, I should probably introduce myself to the newcomers!" She bowed dramatically, sweeping one hand behind her back. "My name is Perla, also known as Perla the Sage, or Perla the Questmaster. Age, unknown, height, unknown, weight, unknown, and if you really wanted to know, you'd probably have to stalk me," she said in a chirpy, happy voice, smiling broadly the whole time.
"Now, what's up?"
*
Nyx. Lady Perla reminded Myu of Nyx. Cheerful. Friendly. Sociable. It sort of made her skin crawl. They both seemed so happy and cheerful, but one person can't be that happy. It's a facade that one puts on to appear normal and to fit in. They pretend to be something their not..., and Nyx, she wants Myu to be just like her. Myu will not though. She proud of what she is despite the cruel things she might say or do to others. At least she is herself...and not hiding herself. In a way, the cheerful demeanor is a defense mechanism. You hide your true feelings and fit the mold that you are suppose to...,but it's not as obvious as Myu's defense mechanism, though Myu can see it. It's sickening.
Nyx seemed to glow brighter at the sight of Lady Perla. She had no idea why Mag hated her. She seemed like such a warm and wonderful person. Those types of people are hard to find in life and to actually find one was exciting. "Hello, Lady Perla!" Nyx chimed back excitedly. Having such a pleasant person around just seemed to lift the weights of fear off of Nyx.
Skipping introductions and getting right to the point, "I was brought here by a feeling. Tell me. What is this place, and tell me everything that I need to know..." Myu said putting it bluntly. She was here for answers, and that was it...
*
"Ah! So very forward, aren't we," Perla said, smiling at Myu. "That'll get you places in life, but be careful someday, or you might learn something you may not want to know." She then giggled, dismissing her own words. "And hello to you, Miss Guardian Spirit. No need to call me 'Lady', that's just something little Snowy picked up because he's too polite," she said laughing. Now, I think that your feeling was caused by me. I was brewing up a new potion in order to attract newly born Zahdl here, so that they could ask me about things. After all," she said, holding up one finger, "better safe than sorry all around."
"A potion..." Snow thought aloud, considering her words. "You wouldn't have, by chance, been creating it in the adjacent room, would you?"
"Bingo Zingo!" Perla said, snapping her fingers. "You must have passed it on your way in!"
"You idiot!" Mag yelled. If she could have slapped her forehead, she would have. "That damn concoction of yours has flooded the whole damn room!"
"Ehhhhhhhhh?" Perla exclaimed, eyes widening. "That can't be! I only fell asleep for a second, right after I sent your letter!"
"That was days ago, you blundering airhead!" Mag all but shouted in frusteration. She didn't dislike happy people, but airheads were a bit more than she could stand. Especially from her experiences with them back home.
"Oh no..." Perla murmered, face downturned. "If the potion overflowed, then a hugemondous amount of magical energy must have flowed into the surrounding area. Who knows what kind of strange effects it might have caused on this area?"
*
Not good. Not good at all. What could this magical potion do? It was created to lure her here..., and it had succeeded. She came on a feeling; the feeling that brought her here. She didn't tell Nyx about how it made her feel, but the feeling gave her happy, tingly feeling throughout her body. It made her feel nice and warm..., and she needed to know what it was. Though she wasn't so sure if she was actually happy she came now.
Potion, just the thought of this whole thing made Myu shake her head. How could Lady Perla be so careless? What could the magical potion cause or create? Could the potion possibly have given life to the trash creature? If so, what other mishaps could happen as well. If Myu's assumption was true, then they were in a grave danger. There could be endless creatures to come about, and Myu and Nyx were basically defenseless. This had the recipe for disaster or a "good time".
"This is so not good!" Nyx thought out loud, her voice losing the spunk it had just a minute ago. Everything seemed to be going so well too. Of course, there had to be a twist. Things couldn't possibly go well for so long, but they did run into that...creature. Nyx wondered if there would be anymore...and if she could protect Myu from it. The thought scared her, but she would protect Myu no matter what.
"So what do you say we do now? There are endless possibilities of the outcome of this mishap." Myu looked around the room, so she could face the others in the room. A stern expression masked her face.
*
"Whatever has happened I will fix. Whatever I am capable of creating, I am also capable of destroying," Perla said, unusually serious expression on her face. "There is a balance to everything in the world, and although my powers are little in comparison, I will do my best to right what has been wronged." Then, her serious look vanished, to be replaced by her usual smile.
"Hmph, yeah, now that the whole countryside is crawling with chaos..." Mag grumbled under her breath.
"Oh, please don't worry!" Perla said. "The walls of this place are so thick and magically sealed that none of the magic can seep outside! The effects of the potion spill should be limited to the inside. Now, can someone tell me what seems off?"
*
Relief washed over both Nyx and Myu. At least the magical effects were only present in the temple because if they were elsewhere, then things would have gotten more hectic. What would have happened anyway? No, one can't think of that right now. They should be more worried about what is happening rather than what could have happened.
But what was off about this temple? It just seemed odd in nature. A lake of goo outside, trash creatures attacking people inside, and overall just weird rooms were just some of the eccentricities. What could possibly be considered normal by the temple's standards? Myu had never seen it in its "normal" conditions, so she had no idea what was right or not.
"We were attacked by a creature towards the entrance. I'm not sure if that would account as 'off'." Myu replied to Lady Perla?s question. If that wasn't off, then she didn't know what was.
*
"This temple was originally dedicated to a godess, before that particular religion's followers broke off. It was a dedication to her benevolence and kindness," Perla stated. "An attack of any sort is unusual, and does not belong in this place. Even now, I have dedicated this place to helping new Zahdl, so there shouldn't be anthing dangerous in here. Therefore, that monster is definitely a product of this magic."
"Broke off? Are you refering to the rift between the two churches of Lunais and Seana?" Snow asked, remembering an earlier encounter with representatives of the two.
"Yes. There was a great deal of debate between two sects of the original religions, and thus they separated, each founding the two churches that are present today." Perla waved one hand idly, sighing. "There are still members of the original religion left, but most worship in secret. It's a darn shame."
"As interesting as the religious history is, would you mind telling us how we're going to stop the mass of maliciousness in the main hall?" Mag drawled impatiently. "It can't fit into the hallway, I don't think, but what's to stop it from breaking down the wall, or something?" Sounds of crashing from the larger room could be heard echoing down into the current room, increasing the serious nature of her words.
"Oh, you can just leave that to me," Perla said, a mysterious smile gracing her lips. "First, however, we should clean up the mess in the other room, before it causes any more problems."
*
Myu let Lady Perla's, the name just seemed to stick, words sink themselves in her mind. A temple dedicated to a goddess? She wondered what happened to this goddess, and these religions. What created such a rift? She felt so naive to the world around her right now that it aggravated her. She liked to be in control...She liked to know what was going on, but now, she was being educated. Though this information was a good thing to get a hold of so gaining this enlightenment would help Myu in the long run.
Myu also pondered how Lady Perla was going to stop this beast. She looked fairly weak, so Myu wondered how this would possibly work out. She decided not to think about it. You can't really judge a book by its cover.
"Yes...We should clean." Myu finally said after all her thinking. She headed towards the room but stopped unsure on how to go about cleaning.
"Umm...this stuff isn't toxic or whatever? Like Myu won't gain another leg or something, right?" Nyx inquired, half joking. She saw what it did to the trash...What would it do to other things?
*
"Oh, please let me handle it!" Perla said laughing. Reaching into a pocket of her skirt, she pulled out a slender golden chain with several different pendants hanging off. Pulling off a small dark jeweled pendant with ornate black casing, she walked over to the door, where the muck was beginning to ooze in.
"It's times like this when I'm glad that people owe me favors!" she said, twirling the jewel between her fingers. Then, she faced the door and held her arms outstretched, one palm touching the back of her other hand, jewel hanging from the tip of her middle finger. Powerful magical energy crackled around her body, and the jewel glowed with a strong amythist light.
"Sevanet! Master of the seventh door! I invoke thy favor to clear this room of its debris!" Perla yelled, eyes closing as she charged its power. A magical seal of purple light formed at the tips of her fingers, before racing towards the ooze filled room. It hovered over the muck for a moment before rotating horizontally and expanding, covering the room in complex swirls and whorls of magic. The whole building seemed to shudder as the spell took hold, the ooze being sucked upwards into the seal, dissappearing as it hit.
After a few moments, the room was spotless, as if the potion had never overflowed. Perla admired the results for a few moments before turning back around.
"Well, I doubt you are as impressed, Snow, but that was pretty impressive, eh, Mag?" She asked, smiling as though she hadn't just caused a miniature black hole thing. Snow looked vaguely put out, and Mag sputtered for a moment.
"Bull s**t!" Mag finally came out with.
*
"Now that was pretty amazing! Wasn't it, Myu!" Nyx chirped admiring Perla's magic. This was nothing like the magic that any of them had ever used. It was much more powerful, and Nyx could sense Myu's yearning for that power. She was jealous. Myu wanted to be strong...She had to be the best, and Nyx...she was going to help her achieve her goal.
" 'Ey, Myu. Wasn't that awesome!" Nyx said prodding Myu. Of course it was awesome! Come on, the room was spotless now! Not even Snow or Myu could do that, but Perla did that all on her own. Such amazing magic. Maybe someday...they would be that strong.
"Whatever..." Myu scoffed as she looked away. Anyone could do that if they had that pendant. It wasn't so "amazing." Lady Perla took action in cleaning up her mess. What's so amazing about that? Nothing. Anyone could use magic if they focus themselves. Myu had done it, and there was nothing "amazing" about that. She sighed a bit. Being around all these people...it seemed to...she couldn't find the right word to describe how she felt. But soon...This whole thing was going to be over...soon...
"Shouldn't our priorities be elsewhere now instead of gawking at the 'marvel'?" She said it somewhat bitterly. She would get her answers, and the end would come. She would be all alone. That's...all...that matter...
*
"Oh, I really can't take credit for it," Perla said somewhat humbly. "It is really only by Lord Sevanet's magic that I was capable of doing this. I entered into a contract with him many many years ago, and he allows me to use his powers every once in a while." Perla slipped the jewel back into her pocket. "He's a powerful spirit of dimension magic. Perhaps you will meet him at some point."
"Yeah, yeah," Mag said impatiently. "So in other words, you were just borrowing power. So what? Let's just take care of Mr. Junkyard and get this thing over with."
Snow nodded, and walked towards the door. To tell the truth, he was feeling a bit irritated himself, especially towards Lady Perla at the moment. He walked towards the door, hitting his shoulder on the doorframe before walking into the next room and out into the hallway.
"Ah. Was it something I said?" Lady Perla wondered aloud, before chasing after him.
*
"Ah. Mr. Snow," Myu spoke as she tried to catch up with him, "...you hit your shoulder..." Myu continued stating the obvious causing her to frown slightly. She sounded ignorant. It was blatantly obvious that Snow had indeed hit his shoulder. What was she trying to do anyway? Be friendly? This was all unknown to her.
"You aren't hurt, are you?" These words just seemed to spew out of her mouth. This wasn't her. Who was speaking for her? Nyx? No, Nyx can't control her speech or really anything for that matter. Nyx is weak...and only a tad intelligent. Then whose words were these? They were her own? Obviously. Why? Ugh... She shook the thought out of her head. These words were petty. Others' well-being were unimportant...One should only care for themselves.
"Yea..." Nyx said trailing off. Nyx really didn't know what she was agreeing to since she was deep in thought. She didn't understand why everyone was being so harsh to Perla. Was it because of the mess the potion made? Everyone makes mistakes, so why is everyone so angry? The magic? Was it the magic? Things just didn't seem to make sense. Snow. Even Snow seemed irritated. What was going on?
Nyx sighed slightly. During this little "adventure", Nyx could swear this had to be the most thinking that she had ever done in her life. Things just seemed so complicated. It just seemed so much easier when it was just Myu and her. Nyx would just prod Myu to do things while Myu would survey the area looking for possible dangers. That or she would look out for people...so they could avoid them. Easy. Life was so easy, but now dealing with all this...drama, it just seemed to weigh on Nyx. That day when Myu sensed something and decided to go on her feeling, Nyx knew that nothing was going to be the same anything. Things would change. They would change. She wondered if this whole thing was for the better...
*
"I'm fine, Miss Myu!" Snow called back, walking down the hall with one hand running over the bricks idly. Perla ran after him, quickly covering distance with her delicate yet fast run.
She caught up to Snow, catching the edge of his sleeve in her hand. Snow paused, not turning towards her.
"Couldn't you be...just a little more subtle?" Snow whispered, his hushed voice sounding tired. "I know it wouldn't change anything, but it certainly would make me feel better."
"I'm sorry. My friends have told me that I have a habit of saying things outright, without thinking about the effects they had on others," Perla said, smiling weakly. "But still, I didn't think you'd be that sensitive..."
"Wouldn't you be?" Mag asked, voice somewhat harsh, but then, thankfully for Perla, dropping the subject. Perla sighed and continued walking in step with him, both of them stopping upon reaching the end of the corridor leading out into the main room.
The monster, which had at this point righted itself, was stalking back and forth across the room, tails lashing. Perla nodded as she saw it.
"Alright, I've got a plan."
*
Emotions. Caring for someone. You give the person your heart...your every being... You will give so much and receive nothing in return. All of this and you just get hurt in the end. Is there really a point to it? Is it worth making yourself weak? Making yourself dependent on others? Is it really worth it? Those people who thrive off of...love...are they ready? Ready to accept defeat? Ready to accept the heart break they will receive? Is Snow being so touchy because Lady Perla has broken his heart? This Lord Sevanet...could he possibly be Lady Perla's life partner? Mag had said that Snow had feelings for Lady Perla...Could this possibly explain it? Snow...he...
No...None of this matters. They currently had a task at hand and thinking about frivolous things was futile. Myu needed to focus. She needed to be serious...The last time she didn't focus...she and Nyx could have been seriously hurt. She needed to rely on Nyx, and Nyx could have been injured due to her carelessness. She was...hurt though. It was her fault. It was all her fault...
...Weakness. Myu tried to regain her composure. Weakness...was a disgusting feeling. It made her feel dirty...and unworthy. She tried to shake the feeling away and began to address the situation. "What do you have in mind, Lady Perla?"
*
"Take a look at these," Perla said, pulling four flat discs out of her pocket. Each disc was inscribed with many runes and magical symbols on both sides, carved deep into the stone the discs were made of. Placing three on the floor, she held up the fourth, pointing to it with her free hand.
"These discs are capable of generating a magic cancelling field. They were given to me by a special friend, Lady Laci, just for an emergency," she said, sighing at the thought. Shaking her head to get back on topic, she continued. "Each of these discs must be placed in one of the four cardinal directions, south," she pointed to the doorway to the outside, "north," indicating the opposite wall, "west," pointing to the hallway across from them, and "east," slapping the ground right in front of her. "If we can place these in the correct positions, then the barrier will come up, negating all magics inside it, including the one controlling the...thingy."
"That does make sense," Snow admitted. Perla, not speaking, handed him one of the discs to examine. Snow, eyes widening in slight suprise, nodded a silent thanks, and ran a finger over one of the runic markings, tracing it across the disc.
"I'm not a fast runner, but I think I could make it to the north wall if the monster is distracted long enough," Perla admitted, laughing nervously. "I'm going to have to ask Nyx and Myu to place the other two, them most likely being faster than me."
Snow placed the disc on the ground, Perla picking it up after a moment's thought.
"Let me guess. We're the decoys," Mag groaned, wishing she could bang her head against the wall.
"I'm sorry," Lady Perla said, trying to choose the right words. "It's just that, well..."
"I know. The placement of objects, especially in such a delicate situation, is best not left up to me," Snow said quietly. Perla nodded, then turned to Nyx and Myu.
"Are you okay with this?"
*
Earlier, Myu would have thought about their request. She was always so wary. Everyone had their own motives...Motives that are unknown and questionable, but it was obvious that Snow and Lady Perla had no ulterior motives. They seemed too nice. They were just out there to help...a very admirable quality. Myu...was only out there for herself. Despicable, but it felt so right...
Independence...that what it was, but Lady Perla and Snow...they didn't seem at all dependent. They themselves seemed strong. Then what was it that Myu possessed? Selfishness? Is that it? Was Myu selfish? All she cared about was herself? No...she cared about the causes she believed in. If she was determined to accomplish something, she would. She did care...She just didn't show it most of the time...Weakness...
Though, this was for a cause that Myu wanted to accomplish. This beast was going to be done for. It had already done so much...drained and stressed out Myu, so it needed to be defeated. Determination...
Myu simply nodded at Lady Perla's request. "I'm sure we could manage." She looked in the directions that she was going to go. It seemed easy. She just hoped all went well.
"Good luck!" Nyx chirped happily. She just hoped nothing bad would happen and that everything would run smoothly. Judging how this as been going though, she was so sure, but she hoped that everything was going to be alright. It had to be. They already came this far...Things had to start looking up. Yes, fine...everything was just going to a-okay.
Myu glanced over at Snow. "Be careful..." She paused, "...both of you."
*
"Thank you, Miss Myu," Snow said smiling. "May you be protected from all harm."
"Let's stop yapping and get going! The sooner we get this over with, the better!" Mag yelled, pumping herself up for the action. Snow nodded and crouched into a runner's stance, mentally prepping himself. Perla grinned and gave everybody the thumbs up sign, trusting Mag to give Snow the message.
"Alright! Yeah! Here we go!" Snow sprinted forwards, making a beeline for the monster. He skidded to a halt in front of it, crouching close to the ground. The monster, startled by his sudden approach reared up. Snow ducked under it's belly, grabbing one of it's tails in the process. Praying for the best, he swung up onto what he assumed was its back, and clung on for dear life.
"Now!" he yelled, giving the signal.
Perla rushed out of the hallway, carrying her disc. Reaching the north wall, she carefully placed it down, nodding at her work.
*
Myu began mentally preparing herself as well for her task at hand. She was visualizing herself completing it and then being the victor. The beast would be contained...defeated. It would be defenseless...hopeless. This caused My to smirk a bit. Winning...Victory. Myu hated and would never admit defeat. She would rather die with honor than be defeated. She was determined...determined to be victorious. Defeat would not be an option. She would be strong. But there are others...Myu felt confident in her comrades though. They would be able to take care of themselves...hopefully. She hoped...they would be victorious too...if not...together... Yes, together but just for this time...this time...only...
Together. She felt numb. The thought didn't affect her one bit. Together. They would do this together. A small smile curved on the lips that had stayed straight for a long time, but it was quickly brushed away while Myu waited for the signal. She then saw Lady Perla give the thumbs up, so she too briskly went to accomplish her mission. She hoped all went well. Myu knew that Snow was stronger than her...so he would do fine against the beast. Yes...
Myu quickly made it to the west wall and placed the disc on the ground. She let out a sigh of relief. "One more..." She commented to herself. She then looked around for the next direction she had to head.
"Which way?" Nyx asked unsure, a hint of fear present in her tone.
"This way..." She replied blankly as she headed towards the doorway. She hesitated a bit but then placed the disc in place. She was done with her task, but how were the others...and did it work? She didn't want to wait and find out, so Myu quickly dashed to see the outcome of the barrier...that and of her comrades as well...
*
Perla, seeing the final disk being set into place, activated the spells embed deep into the disk. Flaring to life, each of discs sent a pillar of golden light streaming towards the ceiling. A line of light raced in a circle across the floor, connecting each of the discs with a semitransparent wall. The circle, now completed, filled with a gentle, hazy light.
The monster, sensing it's nearing demise, reared up angrily. Snow attempted to grab at it, then was sent barreling off it's back into a nearby pile of cardboard boxes. His head cracked against the floor as he fell, knocking him out. Mag began to yell and swear profusely in her concern for her friend, although it was only a slight bump on the head, nothing serious.
Continuing with its magic, the runic symbols from each disc copied themselves onto the floor within the circle. Glowing brightly, the spell activated in all its glory. The monster was hit fully by the spell, swaying under its power. It glowed with the light of the spell for a moment before collapsing in on itself. Being formed from junk, it had little stability past what the magic had held together, and it quickly fell apart, bits and pieces rolling off as it crumbled.
Its work done, the mystic circle vanished along with the discs, leaving only a charred black marks on the floor where it had been.
Perla walked to the center of the circle, prodding the remains of the junk monster.
"Well, look like it worked!"
*
"Snow!" Myu cried as she watched him barrel through the air. Emotion. Fear. Myu felt so many emotions all at once. She could then feel her eyes widen and her forehead wrinkle. Snow. Was he alright? He couldn't be hurt...no...be strong, Mr. Snow. Please...be alright... But...why did she seem to care so much? Snow could take care of himself...but she cared. Her comrade was hurt...and she allowed it to happen. She wasn't able to help him. She just watched him, and Snow was out cold... It was all her fault... She failed...
Defeated. The monster had been defeated. Sure, victory. Myu cared that they had pummeled the beast; she was going to do it no matter what, but...She then began to look over at Snow and then at the char marks on the floor. If they can't defeat this together, then what's the point of this whole thing? Unity. Togetherness. It would be pointless. If you can't defeat something together...
This is why Myu liked to work alone. There would be no one to worry about but yourself. You didn't have to protect others...and worry...You just had yourself, only you matter...but togetherness...
Myu then glanced over at Lady Perla. She didn't seem to care at all...The monster was defeated, and she paid no mind to Mr. Snow. Myu slowly shook her head and turned her attention elsewhere...She remained quiet as she heard her guardian's frenized uproar.
"Mag? Snow? Are you guys alright?" Nyx exclaimed taking in everything around her. She was glad that the monster was defeated but at the expense of a friend? Friend... She just really hoped that Snow and Mag weren't hurt. Please don't be hurt...They were needed for many reasons...some that were still unclear. Growth. Friendship...Please be alright...
*
"Yeah, we're fine!" Mag called, after examining Snow. She lowered her voice to talk to herself angrily. "Oh look, it worked!" she pantomined Perla's voice in a sqeaky falsetto. "Yeah, and we're only exhausted, and oh, look, unconscious. Gee, what concern!"
Perla walked over and examined the place where his head had made contact with the floor.
"The worst he'll end up with is a bump for a few days. He should wake up soon." Perla said, brushing her hands over the bruised skin, Snow squirming slightly under her touch. Mag, not happy with the contact between Snow and Perla, lowered the temperature around them a few degrees without realizing it. Perla laughed under her breath at the display, placing Snow's head down gently on the ground. She walked over to Nyx and Myu.
"I appologize for the trouble I've caused you by calling you here. If there's anything you need to know, please ask me."
*
There were so many questions that Myu wanted to ask that she couldn't pick just one. Those same questions seemed to shift themselves throughout her mind some becoming more prevalent than others. They seemed to be pushing and shoving each other out of the way, as if telling Myu that they were more important. What was important? What did she want to know? After getting caught up in all of this, her questions...the actual reason for being here just seemed to fade away.
She was summoned here...She came on instinct, but what instinct? What was she actually? Why was she born? What was her purpose for living? Did she have one? To have no purpose...no drive, that is a life that is not worth living... Was that life that Myu was leading? Was she herself pointless? Useless?
"I know..." Myu started, her monotone voice practically in a whisper. “I know...that I am a Zahdl, but why am I here? Why am I alive?" Her eyes seemed to stray a bit, looking around. The question that just seemed to repeat in her mind was...'why?'
*
"Perhaps it would be best to start at the beginning," Perla said, closing her eyes. "Every existance, every person, every thing has a story behind it, and the existance of the Zahdl is no exception."
"It occurred perhaps a thousand or more years in the past. The date is none too clear, the Librarian says that it was due to the difficulty keeping time or record during the turmoil. And the ones who remember see time as almost irrelevent, molding into an unending stream of consciouness, battle upon battle, then with peace, day unto day, through eternity. I'm rambling I know, but I'll get on with it.
Perhaps the most significant event of this time was the rising of the greatest evil force this land has ever known. Nobody knows what had brought them here, whether it be the conspiritors on Avryn itself, who joined the fight later, or another tempting lure, but the world was riddled with peril. The people of this world, swordsmen and mages, healers and thieves, threw all their forces against the overwhelming powers that were destroying this world. Ultimately they failed.
It is believed at this point that the consciousness of Avryn, whether it exists or not, gave birth to new children in order to fight this great and terrible threat. These children were born of the purest of nature's elements, combined with the traits of nature's other beloved creatures and it's wise human children. These beings became known as the Zahdl, and they were Avryn's last hope.
As they grew and matured, their powers became a force to be reckoned with. Along with their guardian spirits, they managed to push back the evil to a point of almost no return. In a final, bloody battle, the most powerful of the Zahdl, known as the Heaven Saint Knights, sealed the evil away. The battle had decimated nearly every Zadhl who had fought, yet the world was once again at peace. The Knights, swearing to protect this world, fell into a deep slumber, wreathed in a shroud of time.
Years passed, until now. Dark tidings are abroad. The normal count of monsters has gone up, malicious dark magic spreads through the land, and people are suffering. Perhaps these are tidings of the evil's return. I am not one to say.
However, now that you, Snow, and others have been born, perhaps the time to fight has returned. But please, remember. Although protecting this world is important, your life is equally so. Please take this time to learn and grow, instead of entirely dedicating yourself to battle. If you only concentrate on the fight at hand," Perla said, looking downcast, "you may lose sight of what is most important."
*
What's most important...? Wouldn't protecting everyone be what's most important...? Obviously, but Lady Perla said otherwise. Important...Myu simply didn't understand. Why? Why...didn't she understand? Why did she feel so ignorant? Did she honestly need to become more informed? Was she...stupid? But what else did she need to learn, and why did she need to grow? She just found out her new purpose...to save this land. What else was there to know? But...was she truly a ignorant little girl? Please no...Myu did not want to be like Nyx, but did she act more childish? Maybe...
Myu tried to rationalize this in her head and got nothing. What could be more important? Love? Friendship? Petty...right? Yes, of course...Myu would just have to associate with people, so it will enable them to save the world...no matter what. The world...life...everything, it depended on them...it depended on her. Her fate...she needed to accept it. Fate...A savior. Nothing seemed more important than that...The evil that was now present...Myu was going to stop it. She would be one of this world's saviors. She would protect them. Her life...was theirs...That's what was most important.
"Thank you for that...It explained a lot..." Myu replied still deep in thought. She needed to be stronger...both she and Nyx. If they were going to save the world, they had to get stronger...but how? Nyx would suggest a group...but could she possibly be...correct?
*
"I hope I've helped!" Perla said happily. "Oh, and I want you to have this."
Perla holds out an amulet, about the size of a large hoop earing. It's green colored jewel and golden exterior glitter in the light.
"It's called the 'Windfish Jewel'. It will be useful to you someday!" Perla laughed tossing it over. "Now excuse me, I have some other matters I must clear up." She walked off, heading in the direction of her office. Mag snorted.
"Oh, boy. Little Miss Ambiguous, isn't she?" Mag sighed in disdain. "I wish she would just say things straight out, instead of just hinting around."
Snow shifted restlessly with his guardian's voice.
*
Myu stared in awe at the jewel that was now in her possession. It was simply beautiful, but she wondered what it was for. Lady Perla said it would be useful someday, so it had to be used in someway. All the while pondering this, Myu began to twist and turn the amulet, looking at it in all directions. She looked at it so closely that you would think that she hoped that it would tell her what it was for. No luck. It was just an enigmatic amulet that teased her whole mind and being.
Though, Myu had to agree with Mag. Lady Perla herself seemed like a mystery. She seemed like a cheerful-type of person, but then she seems to become something different. Lady Perla then becomes a very intelligent...living mystery, a mystery that you yearn to figure out. Though at times, finding out the mystery isn't at all that pleasant, so Myu, too, wished that Lady Perla wouldn't play her mind games. Lady Perla knew so much...and it seemed she basically waved it in front of your face but then pulled it away. Nice. Though, Myu knew that one day she would understand all that Lady Perla has told them.
Nyx too had been pondering though what she was thinking was very different than Myu's thoughts. "So...what do we do now?" Nyx asked out of the blue. It seemed that they had accomplished their goal here, but now they had something new to start. She wondered how everything was going to go into place and turn out...
*
"Y'know, that's a damn good question," Mag affirmed. "Not like Madame Mysterious gave us any clues either. I suppose we should just wander around and wait for something to happen."
Snow began to come to, shifting slowly on the floor. Eyes still closed, he pushed himself into a sitting position, wincing at the pounding in his head. He carressed the back of his head gently, sending shooting pains into his skull.
"Welcome back to the world of the living, sleepy head," Mag drawled, secretly very glad that he had woken up. He opened his eyes, shaking his head to clear it.
"What happened?" he asked, voice still somewhat dazed. Mag laughed.
"You just had your first flying lesson, birdy boy," she said. "Your score: F minus." Snow groaned, wishing he could lay back down. Instead, he rose to his feet, somewhat unsteadily, almost falling before he caught his balance.
"And the monster?"
"Dead and deader," Mag replied triumphantly. "It collapsed, Lady Perla gave a history lecture and left, and now we're just sitting in a pile of knowledge with nothing to do with it."
"Hmmm..." Snow mused on the possibilities. True, it was good to have plenty of information for later use. Perhaps they should seek out more knowledge before taking any action. That would be the best course, provided that nothing else came up.
"Man, I'm bored of this place! Snow, let's just get out of here," Mag whined, impatient. Snow nodded, acknowledging her request.
"I think we'll go see if we could find more information on Zahdl and guardians. Miss Myu, Miss Nyx, what will you be doing?"
*
What were they going to do next? That was a good question... Myu didn't think about this when she actually made it here. She hadn't really thought about it at all. She thought that coming here would provide her answers and lead her in the right direction, but all it did was give her facts and no path laid out. What was she going to do? Where was she going to go? She didn't know. Should she too look for more information? But where would she look? Myu simply didn't know, and this whole "not knowing" thing of made her a little angry...It made her feel lost...
"I'm not quite sure..." Myu pondered out loud. She continually racked her brain. She wanted to leave, but...
"Should we stick together? Or..." Nyx asked directing her question at Snow and Mag. They seemed to know what they were doing, and Myu was still pretty small. She thought it would be good to stay together, but...she wasn't sure if Myu wanted to stay around them or even if Snow and Mag wanted them around either. Were they just slowing them down? Were they just a burden? Nyx just quietly pondered these thoughts while justifying her question. She felt that they should be together. Myu had little magic, as did she. They were both Zahdl...and if they were both going to beat this thing, shouldn't they be close by? It seemed like a rational explanation, but Nyx's opinion didn't matter though. It was ultimately Snow, Mag, and Myu's decision...
*
"At the moment, I believe the best thing would be to relax for a moment and regain our strength, before attempting more heroics," Snow said, sighing. "Speaking frankly, my head feels like it has been put in a vice, and I am rather exhausted from the whole experience." The truth was, he just really wanted to lie down and put an ice bag on the back of his head, and maybe pass out for a few days or more.
"Speaking frankly," Mag said, mimicking Snow's voice, "You look like hell."
"We are going to head home first, in order to regain our strength. It is unwise to rush into a situation without being prepared or at full capacity," Snow said, nodding. "But afterwards, I would like to meet back up with you to search for more information." He smiled gently. "If that would be okay with you, Miss Myu?"
*
"Now that's a plan!" Nyx chirped happily. She was still unsure about Myu though. Nyx wasn't sure if she would bite the bait. Sure, Myu didn't trust people and what not, but come on. It's good to have allies when you are fighting for the same thing. People you can rely on. People help you grow, which Myu needs to do. Nyx just didn't understand why Myu was like the way she was. It was a quick and sudden change. Why...?
Nyx brushed the thought aside. She figuratively looked to Myu for her response. Nyx felt that Myu might not want to wait. She just seemed to gung-ho when it came to things like this. Myu was logical, but when it came to a battle or things a long those lines, she just seemed to do what she felt was necessary, which sometimes were very rash...and just wrong. Regardless, Myu was still very intelligent. Nyx just wished that she would be...more...No. Never mind. Nyx was just thinking nonsense. Myu was a good person...you just had to chip at her wall. Then...you would see. She's just scared for some reason. Little Myu.
"I believe that is a good idea." Myu said simply with a slight nod of her head. She slightly looked away and closed her eyes. Yes...a good idea...
*
"I will send you a message as soon as I restart my investigation," Snow said, grateful for their help.
"The post is damn convenient," Mag agreed, thinking of the post office and its decidedly strange mascot and delivery person.
Snow began to turn and walk towards the exit. Then, he stopped for a moment, recalling something.
"Miss Myu, if you are searching for a place to stay, there is an area just on the edge of the plains area that has some empty buildings. You'd have to dust a little, but they can be converted into some good living spaces," he said, wondering where the younger Zahdl was, in fact, staying. He had set up his own little area in one of the complexes, and it was actually quite cozy, or would be when he added a bit more furniture.
"I called it 'the barracks' 'cuz it reminds me of the summer camp barracks I stayed at when I was a little kid," Mag said, laughing fondly at the memory. Snow nodded.
"I hope to see you soon, Miss Myu, Miss Nyx."
And on this final note, he exited the building into the sunlight at last, heading home.
*
A smile slowly crept on Myu's lips. It lingered there for awhile as she watched Snow leave. Snow...really was a nice person because at this point, she and Nyx were just wanderers. They had no definite place to stay, but now...they had somewhere to go. They had a place that they could call home. Home. This whole feeling was odd to her, and feeling...everything was so...weird. Was she being weak? Was she letting her guard down and cause her just to get hurt? But regardless, Snow had gained her trust...He had helped her so much. Saving her. Telling her a place to stay. He was a person she would be glad to call an ally, for the time being, and fight by his side...to win this thing...not alone but together...Then, they will...leave. Good-bye.
"Thank you..." Myu whispered as she watch Snow began become smaller and smaller until he finally disappeared. She then quickly batted her smile away and began to look at the ground. All this emotion...feeling...it was grotesque. She needed to remember what was most important and that was completing her goal. Emotions...feelings, they will just get in the way. Petty.
Myu then closed her eyes...focusing herself. One can never lose track of oneself, and she felt that all this feeling wasn't her. Focus...Don't get hurt.
"That was nice of them..." Nyx stated simply. She was glad that they would have a place to stay. Now Myu could be cautious of an "attack" while being sheltered. That made Nyx very happy.
"So...are we going?" She continued unsure of Myu's decision to go.
Myu's blank face nodded while she made her way out of the temple leaving everything behind her...
*
Meanwhile...
"You didn't have to come. I do have everything under control," Perla said, smiling weakly at her guest. Her visitor shrugged, shutting her office door behind her.
"It's not often that you call on that great amount of magic in such a short while," they replied, in a voice obviously male.
"Oh? Were you worried about me?" she teased, laughing slightly.
"I'm just a little suprised you were so careless. Was it truly necessary to allow things to become so out of hand?"
"It wasn't my doing," Perla replied, eyes downcast. She moved over to her desk, perching lightly on the edge, hands gripping it. "Something interefered. I had to be sure that..."
"I understand." He turned to leave, magic opening a path before him. "Just...be careful from now on."
"No problemo!" She saluted his retreating form playfully, smiling brightly. As he vanished from sight, her face fell.
"I can handle myself."
