Rules for the debate forum

This place is for extended discussion and debate on various issues. Keep in mind that if you make an argument, you may be asked to provide evidence or logic to back up your viewpoint. You can, and will, be challenged. If you are uncomfortable with this sort of thing, you may not enjoy posting in this forum.

Having said that, I would like to keep the atmosphere here fairly pleasant. I don't want anyone to be afraid to venture in here if they have something to say.

Rules are subject to change.

Keep in mind:
- If someone challenges something you have said, it is not a personal attack. Try not to take offence.
- Your beliefs are not under attack. It may feel that way sometimes, but try to distance yourself and look at what people are saying, not what you feel like they're implying.
- If you feel attacked, question in order to determine whether or not you have misunderstood.
- People questioning the word or title you use (like "Wiccan") are not questioning the validity of your beliefs and practices. They are questioning only the word you are using, unless they say otherwise.

Rules:
- Personal attacks are not an argument. Ad hominems are not allowed.
- Avoid logical fallacies wherever possible. Not everyone has studied or participated in much debate - I know I haven't - so you may be unfamiliar with logical fallacies. If someone points one out to you, think of it as a learning experience.
- Challenge and question beliefs, but don't attack them or tear them down. Challenge and question actions, but not the performer of the action.
- Don't overuse the phrase "culture rape". The word "misappropriation" exists and is less inflammatory. Save "rape" for when someone's actions are really unforgivable. Overuse of the phrase degrades its power.
