What is the True Meaning of Christmas?

Presents, Santa Clause, snowmen and snowball fights, being with those you love, decorating a Christmas tree. These are all great things, tradition in my home. But they aren't the true meaning of Christmas.

What about you? What are you're family traditions? Would you be happy not having those? What about those this year that have lost so much, will they have these great Christmas traditions? What can you do to help?

I know its only November but I want to prepare your heart and have you prepare others for what Christmas is all about. So now is the time to learn and to begin.

This first posting is to get everyones minds racing!
What am I doing this Christmas to make a difference to God and the world? How can I put a smile on someone's face?

Think about it. And post you're thoughts and anwsers!

Well I just had to post this, this has always been a favorite Christmas poem!

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
by Clement Clarke Moore

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On Cupid! On, Donder and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

But not what Christmas is all about, I always think of this jingle, He's the Reason for the season! Here is the Christmas story at its best. It might take some weeks but we'll slowly process it and have some fun along the way!

These are found in Matthew 1:18-2:23 and also in Luke 1:1-40. I believe that its important to read both accounts of Jesus birth. They differ in many ways not because one is right and one is wrong but becuase the men that wrote the books on his birth had to research it! They weren't there when it happened so of course they would vary but they do not contradict themselves.

We'll start in Matthew 1:18-25. This is not found in Luke. Mary is found with child! And when shes engaged to another man! Could you imagine Joseph when he first found out! And as he way lying in bed that night with doubts, and angel appeared to him and said do not worry for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Joseph had to have been confused and shocked at this point but he believed and when he got up (verse24) he took his wife and did as the angel said.

Also what about Mary, what was she thinking during all of this, she knew she had never slept with anyone yet could you imagine what peolpe were saying! She did not for an instant doubt the Lord(as much as we know). I'm sure she thought why me, I'm just an ordinary girl, why me?

Yes that would of been something for Mary to explain to others that she never slept with anyone. Guess that's why she was hidden from all to see and know

To me Christmas is a day for Jesus.Like that song I used to sing in children's choir."Happy Birthday Jesus" I loved that song.

The Christmas story I've come to know and love sad my dad reads it to me every Christmas eve...after my mom died...before that mommy'd read it to me)

Luke 2

1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David smile 5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. 15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. 17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. 20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

21And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Christmas is about Jesus.

Not about anything else. We give presents to one another as a tradition that started a long time ago maybe even from the wise men that gave Jesus the three gifts of Gold, Frankensense, and Myrr.

There is nothing wrong with presents but look at what the holiday has become, is it still Christ centered? I really don't think it is. Maybe in our homes, at our churches, maybe at some schools and colleges, but for the most part, its not. So what do we do to fix this? I can't offer you solutions except make it as Christ opiented as possible starting in your homes. Make sure before you open presents that your children and or family read through the birth of Jesus, and thank God with prayer and Thanksgiving that he sent his son unto us. No child is too young to know the true meaning of Christmas- and that is Jesus.

So this year spread His love, the easiest way I can suggest is by and through your family. Start there and spread out to neigbors and friends. Thats a great start!

"A Mother’s Cry"

Long ago and far away
On a very special day
In Mary’s womb
A child did bloom.

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
How can you be my little one?"
I could hear Mary cry.

Shepherds came, angels sang,
Wisemen from afar, gifts they did arrange.
Dreams of warning, trips afar
To save this bright morning star.

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
Why do they seek my little one?"
I could hear Mary cry.

A king did die,
The threat no longer nigh,
To Nazareth the family roams,
The place that became His home.

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
Why was I blessed so, my little one?"
I could hear Mary cry.

To Jerusalem to celebrate,
But they did not rightly estimate
How much the child had grown.
Three days He was gone, if only they had known.

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
I was so frightened, my little one!"
I could hear Mary cry.

Many years of peaceful life
Before the beginning of the strife.
Baptism in the Jordan was the start
Of His ministry to heal every heart.

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
How was I to know, my little one?"
I could hear Mary cry.

He healed the sick, raised the dead,
And made the blind to see; the prisoners He led.
Many sought Him out
But some against Him did shout.

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
Why do they hate my little one?"
I could hear Mary cry.

The leaders then did conspire
To stop this new fire.
In the dark of night they took Him
And proceeded to nail Him to a limb.

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
Why must you die, my little one?"
I could hear Mary cry.

Into the tomb, dark and cold
His enemies thought would hold
That spark of hope
That helped so many cope.

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
How can I go on, my little one?"
I could hear Mary Cry.

Three days went by,
Women came nigh
To prepare Him for eternal rest
But found the tomb an empty nest.

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
Where have they taken you, my little one?"
I could hear Mary cry.

Angels in white raiment
Came to make a statement.
"Do not seek the living among the dead.
He is risen, this tomb is no longer His bed."

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
How can this be true, my little one?"
I could hear Mary cry.

He appeared to His followers then.
The great good news did begin.
To them He did say "Believe all the prophets spoke.
To conquer sin and death is why I awoke."

"Oh my Lord, my precious Son,
You are my Savior and King, my little one!"
I could hear Mary cry.

Heres a favorite Christmas song of mine heart And its actually a movie as well, thats very good!
Newsong
The Christmas Shoes

It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin' to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing 'round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes

His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say

Chorus:
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here"
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes

So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out
I'll never forget the look on his face when he said
Mama's gonna look so great

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

Bridge:
I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about

the true meaning of christmas is celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus. also giving to those that truely need it & not wanting anything in return. family & friends. church service. these are what make christmas great not some cartoon santa & flying reindeer.
