In order to make a successful story, I would think you would need a rough draft to plan ahead before writing your story. I want to know. Do you usually type your rough draft, or write it out with a pen or pencil? Or do you not have a rough draft at all?
I usually just go ahead and start writing the story, but also I type my rough copy when I do do one.

Hmm..Well I write it out at first but let the story go along as it feels on my hand. Whatever appears before me I use in my stories.

Same - I usually don't start doing anything until I know what the story is going to be about after I plan it in my head - then I type it.

I think of really good lines or plot or twists but usually forget some of them unless I write it down somewhere. So I have a workbook which i write all my ideas. I also do rough drafts of everything so i don't go off course (which i do alot). 3nodding

About a quarter of the time I write my stories out, and the rest of the time I type them. I'm faster at typing than writing. They're not really ROUGH drafts (my friends all say I should go ahead a publish them even though I haven't edited them yet) they're more like the first version of the entire story. But you could call them rough drafts if you really wanted to. JAS

I write everything out first, I preffer writing with a very sharp pencil, but sometimes I need to type, so I had to get ok at typing, now I amaze people with my hunt-and-peck really fast typing XD

I do a mix of both. When I want to share, I type it. When i feel its a more personal story, I'll write it. Alot of the time I'll write down a plot, the chracters and any twists I want to put in, out on paper just so I can get the feel of it. No one is perfect when It comes to writing, it can always be improved.

I do a mixture of both too. I hate writing with a pencil, mainly because it's either too light or isn't as smooth as an ink pen. But I usually start writing it out and then I realize that I'm going to want to type it up, so I switch to typing it. And sometimes I just get the urge to write, so I turn on my computer and radomly start typing stuff up. I have a lot of those types of files.
As for rough drafts, I dont really know. I write something, and then I'll go back and edit it. I don't always have it planned out in my head. The hardest thing for me to work with, is when I have this awesome story in my head, and it has very detailed characters and plot lines, and I can't inspire myself to type it out. Does that ever happen to any of you?

I write out scenes that I think could be useful, and often times when I'm planning out characters the notes become short scenes that I use in my stories.
However mostly I don't write out the entire thing by hand, just bits that I work into my story later. Most of it happens by computer, so mostly typing.

I sort of write out the basic idea at first, I save a copy of that and then I go back, add details re word things make all the revisions I have to until it feels right.

I tend to write it out first. When I feel I've gotten far enough, I'll start typing it, editing it (deleting it, starting all over... stressed ) I'll write a few pages, type it out and modify it, then write some more. It's a weird system but it works. 3nodding

It depends where I am, if my computer's not handy then I usually have a notebook on me to start writing, but I prefer typing because it's faster.
