I know it's blasphemy to say that and it might be because I'm having to play on an unplugged electric guitar, but really does anyone else ever get times when they're bored with there guitar? And how do you become unbored?

Even as i'm obessive at it i get over my bored by listening to music and putting musical goals that suprass basic music. When i mean basic i mean music that revolves purely around chords...maybe its just me but i don't find bored much since metal is a pretty intense musical style.
I'd recommending looking for some new music. Try pandora.com and then try learning new music. There is so much do in music but it will take discipline and time. And yea the unplugged electric might be part of it.

I know what you mean, but that only happens when I've been playing the same ol' tired $h!t over and over again.

Learn a new solo (or song if you're not to that level yet). I like to learn new solos because I usually choose solos that are slightly beyond my current playing ability and now have to advance just to be able to keep up. Does that make sense? So you progress in your skills, learn a new solo, and impress yourself all at the same time. Also, in the process of learning the solo you'll learn new scales & techniques you can "F" around with for fun.

Aside from that...get yourself an amp.

I don't get bored with it, but sometimes I get frustrated with it, so I usually either just leave it for a while, or go and try a new instrument. Another thing to do would be to listen to new artists that you haven't before.

Only time i thought guitar was boring was when i was depressed. i never played then, but now i'm so good at it it's fun to play now. besides being depressed gave me inspiration later on.

Try something completely new; a completely different genre or something epicly hard to set as a goal. That should help a bit.

Praise to Him With Strings...

amp will renew your enthusiasm, go to the nearest pawns hop.

also just mess around on guitar, break rules and scales, try figuring out intervals, or look up a riff to a song you love(try cray train or whole lotta love, always excites me)

Lol I get bored a LOT. I don't even practice regularly anymore. I think this boredom comes for most people when they face that biiiiig plateau. There really isn't much room for improvement. All you can really do is just learn new songs.

Then, writing songs is the next step like MAKQ said. It's a saying that "You're only as good as the music you write." Anyone can learn to play a certain song with time. Your true skill shows when you can write a masterpiece and not just play one.

Definetly get an amp. Anything will do. Just as long as it works.

One thing that keeps me happy and occupied is when I go try different guitars through different amps at a guitar shop. Trying for different sounds is a great way to create your own sound.

I try and make my own tune. (:
Or try a completely different genre of music.
Or pick up another instrument.

i typically find that the best way to get rid of boredom playing guitar is to try changing your tune. it opens up so many more possibilities.
