A roleplay between n e v e r l a n d - - xx [Trystan & Crux] and Jynk [Faolan & Ziazan]
Location: Farstep
Time: Early evening.
Weather: Cool and clear.
PostPosted: Tue May 26, 2009 10:14 pm

It wasn't his fault.

Trystan gritted his teeth and sighed again for the thousandth time, hands shoved into his tattered jeans. He was hardly dressed to impress - after all, he didn't expect to have been shoved into a social situation like he had. Wait, stop, rewind. You see, this is what happened. The poor hitman had just gotten off from a job - he needed some money after all, right? - and had been driving around the lower districts like the bored man he was. It was only early evening, and hell, he didn't have any work at the bar until late night, early morning. With nothing else to do, the aristocratic half demon prat had parked his delectably delicious car - one of many owned by the family, really - and started to walk. And he swore - he absolutely swore that it was not his intention to actually stride past Farstep's entrance while, in fact, going in circles. On his third passing, he'd been... intercepted. Trystan flinched at the mundane word.
More like kidnapped. he thought grudgingly, though he didn't have it in him to be mad. Just somewhat confused at how he'd forgotten the ability to say no.

The hit man had been "persuaded" into enjoying a night at Farstep - they were after his money, he swore it! - by a few clowns who'd been juggling or aweing the crowd, perhaps even making them laugh. Trystan just guessed that they'd recognized him from the night he'd gotten drunk in their tent, but couldn't make sense of why they went through an entire truckload of trouble just to get him to go enjoy some time at the carnival itself. And thats how he'd made it here. Wrangled by two clowns into hanging around, fearing that a baboon named Rosco was going to attack him at any moment. Trystan sighed for a thousandth time, his breath appearing in clouded forms of white as he stepped around two running children, their hands filled with cotton candy and their mom trailing a few meters behind. She gave him a once over, stuck her nose in the air, and tromped off. Trystan snickered a bit and looked down. He really wasn't dressed to impress. However, style was not beyond him - he simply looked... younger. His tight, ripped and shredded jeans clung to his hips like glue, disappearing beneath the cowboy boots he'd shoved his feet into earlier. Luckily, there was no blood on them. His shirt was sheer black, just as tight as his pants and folding around his body in leveled folds. It was a turtle neck - tight one at that - and the sleeves fell down to his elbows. A design was imrpinted in blue and neon greens against the obsidion canvas, bringing out the bright color of his eyes. He looked much more like a college student then a hitman. And oh, lets not forget about the best part. His bookbag. It was ordinary, save for a few stitches here and there. But what was in it was much more mysterious.

Crux curled as usual in the bag, his thrum loud enough for Trystan to hear but muted out by the talk and walk and excitement of the carnival crowd around him. Like this, it would be near impossible for him to find what he was searching for. And Trystan was almost to proud to ask for directions. However, this had to be the third time he'd passed that seductively dressed woman, and this time she was practically flaunting her exposed chest for him to see. Sighing, Trystan rubbed the back of his head. This was becoming ridiculous - the vardo wasn't where it had been anymore and now he was almost completely lost. If it went on this, his legs would probably fall off before he even found his destination. If he'd said that out loud, Crux probably would have told him that the statement was highly over exaggerated. Turning to the flirtatious looking woman - Trystan must have guessed she was off work, or something, he put a hand on his hip, watching her flaunt her lips, but mostly her chest.
That, Trystan thought to himself in mild disgust. Has got to be the work of god. Locking eyes with the girl, Trystan put on his most flirtatious front. "This must be an act of desperation." He said loosely, and the girl threw him a wink. "Honey I'm all about that." She said in a high accent, crossing her legs one over the other. Trystan almost walked away.

I'm so glad I'm pansexual.
He thought, almost wishing he was talking to a man instead of a woman. The girl just smiled as she saw what almost appeared as reluctance on the others face. "Dont worry, I'm off my shift honey. We can play all night long." Trystan made a face, thinking about some of Faolans words from before. They were all family. A weird, weird family, with burlesque girls and monkeys, and men who threw boots, but thats what they were. Maybe underneath her sexy exterior, this woman was just a nice warm fuzzball like Trystan was sure Faolans father was. Not really. Waving a hand lazily, he smiled at her. "All night? Play? I was just going to ask for directions." Watching the womans face faulter, her strawberry blond hair tickling her throat as it fell from its loose ponytail, Trystan bit back a snicker and a bit of foreboding. Hopefully she wasn't like some of the women Faolan had described to him. "I see." The woman said, looking dejected and leaning to the side with a bit of a pout. Trystan watched her chest bounce like it was some sort of alien before realizing she had snapped her fingers in his face. "Up here, honey." She said, regaining some of what Trystan could only imagine as her dignity. "Where you want to go?" Trystan shrugged and measured how tall Faolan was with one of his hands. "Nae tall, a bit of a trickster, works with tarot cards. Where's his vardo?" The woman blinked and tilted her head to the side in thought, mulling over the details in his head. Then she smiled flirtatiously at him. "Looking for Faolan Grady, boy? Down that way, take a turn after the checkered tent." She chuckled. Trystan just copied the information in his head, and turned, beginning to walk away. Stopping, he looked back just as the woman was blowing a puff from a newly lit cigarette. "One more question," He said lazily, looking at her in contemplation. "I'll not be sleeping with you later now that I know who you're associating with, boy." The woman said without turning to look at him. Trystan snorted. Women. Always thinking they were going to get in your pants. "How do you - how do they stay so..." The hit man patted his chest, looking questionably at her. The blue eyed girl turned her eyes on him, and with a devilish wink she whispered "magic."

Mumbling some sort of thanks, Trystan stroked his chin as he turned away.
"Shouldn't I get to ask you one question as well?" The girl said, stopping him in his tracks. Trystan turned his eyes to the girl. "How old are you? No lying." The woman blew a puff from her cigarette and smiled at him. "Twenty eight." Trystan shrugged, glancing the woman over. She shot him a look. "I said no lying - " Trystans eyes flashed a bit with amusement. So he really did look that young. "I wasn't lying." He said to her with a grin. "I always tell the truth." With that last comment, he stepped forward and walked away, leaving the woman wondering about the stranger after he'd left. Trystan wandered down the way thinking about his last words to the woman. It was contradictory, really, since that one in itself had been a lie. He hadn't lied on his age however, which was even more contradictory. With a satisfactory sigh, Trystan turned the corner as previously instructed and found a vardo that looked slightly strange, but strangely familiar.

Sighing, Trystan considered knocking as he reached the door, but it was better left to his pride and dignity. Or what remained of it. So instead, he simply kicked the door open with his foot, his cowboy boots surprisingly tough and his toes used to the abrupt, painful treatment. Settling on the lamest attempt at asking whether or not one was in instead of simply knocking on the door, Trystan called out into the vardo as Crux finally seemed to come awake and pop his head out of the messenger bag, scanner shimmering. He'd been unusually silent all that time though.... Trystan faintly wondered what was up with that.

"I just got hit on by a woman with breasts the size of pineapples for you, so you'd sure as ******** be home."

He called into the trailer with a slight hint of teasing sarcasm in the words. Way to say hello, Trystan, way to say hello.

Faolan came out of the bedroom, clad only in well-worn jeans (it was amazing they were still an article of clothing, really) looking all the world like he was about to beat someone for intruding, then stopped in shock at seeing Trystan there. Letting out a whoop, he bounded over and hugged the other man. "Good to see you here again, brother."

Zia came out of the bedroom as well, holding a large crystal in its hand. It smiled at seeing that its "Uncle" Trystan had come for a visit and, best of all, brought Crux along. It came over to them, setting the crystal on the table as it passed it. "Come out, Crux."

Sizing Faolan up and down, Trystan cocked an eyebrow at the shirtless wonder before smiling a bit. "Yo," He began, raising his arm in a half careless wave before the other let out a whoop and bounded over, nearly bowling into him for a hug. Biting back a yelp, Trystan lost footing for a moment and wrapped his arms around Faolan in return, awkwardly using him to balance out, even though he wasn't as keen on the hugging part. Not yet, but this was... well it should have been expected. "Yeah, you too." He said dryly, but the hint of entertainment and amusement that he was seeing Faolan again made him slightly better then he had been before. Ruffling the others hair, he disentangled himself from the fortune teller and grinned. "So, other then getting married and becoming a father, whats up?" He looked around the vardo, cocking an eyebrow. "Not with your mon cheri today, I take it?"

Crux, who had still been strangely silent, tilted his head up in the darkness as Ziazans voice sounded out. A thrum came from what could only be described as his throat. Opening the bag, He poked his head out before fluidly taking a leap and landing on the ground in front of Ziazan, his head tilted ever so slightly.
"Good.... evening, Ziazan." He thrummed loosely, as if a smile were playing on invisible lips. It was nice to see him again. "How are you?"

"She's out with some of the ladies. They've been talking things over with her so she can be prepared for the baby." The fact that he was proud of his impending fatherhood was clear. He gave Tryst a friendly punch to the arm, no real strength behind it. "And what brings you to my home, boyo?"

Zia knelt down before the other Essentic and wrapped its arms about Crux's neck, giving him a hug. "I've been well, friend. It's good to see you again." It withdrew a bit to sit on its haunches, a few tarot cards flitting down from its wings to the floor. "Have you practiced with the deck I gave you much?"
PostPosted: Wed May 27, 2009 1:14 am

Trystan nodded lazily, hanging off of Faolan a bit as he watched the Essentics greet each other once again. Snorting a bit at the mention of the baby, Trystan snickered a bit. "I see. Sounds like fun." Thinking about the woman he'd talked with before, Trystan shuddered a bit, but decided against saying anything about it. "You know though, babies dont come just like that... she's got some time to still be a free woman. Woman without kids, I mean." Trystan hand flapped and sighed, letting go of Faolan once he asked why he had been brought to wonderful Farstep. Wonderful was a weird definition for it. "I was kidnapped." He said dramatically, waving his hands in the air a bit before returning them to his sides and planting them on his hips. "He's lying - he was persuaded into coming to Farstep." Crux said absently before returning his attention to Zia. "Whatever - look, two clowns decided to hijack me and I wound up wandering around here. You moved your vardo so I ended up... discussing where it was with a.... very busty woman." Trystan shuddered a bit, remembering the woman having to tell him to look at her face, not her breasts. "After all, I'm already here, why not pay a visit?" Trystan shrugged. It sounded like a good enough answer to him.

Crux thrummed into the hug, raising one hand to greet it and return the favor before glancing up at Ziazan with a red glitter of his scanner.
"That is... good to hear. It is good to see you as well." He cocked his head to the side, another soft hum making its way from his throat. Sitting back on his haunches as Zia withdrew, he lit up a bit at the mention of the decks. "Yes, quite. I practice. It is... amusing." Crux cocked his head to the side a bit. "I have tried to convince Trystan to try it, but he keeps refusing. It is entertaining to see him so flustered." To which the man in question sputtered and told Crux to promptly stop talking like that.

Faolan gave a cat-like smirk, eyes closing slightly. "Aye, well, it's true enough the baby won't come for a bit, but I'd hardly say she's free. She's my wife, after all, and we promised to be true to each other." He held up his left hand to show Trystan the length of red ribbon tied there. At the mention of the woman, he laughed. "Sounds like you met Gretel. She's a right bampot, but fun. Pretty sure she's a wee touched in the head." He looked about the main room and shrugged, turning back to Trystan. "Not moved the vardo, hinny. Just got a bigger one. Had to with the baby comin' and Zia gettin' bigger."

"Did you manage to do any predictions with the cards that came true?" Zia asked, curious, rainbow eyes glittering like jewels in the lamplight of the vardo.

Trystan watched the other in slight amusement, a fanged grin forming on his face. This man didn't seem to have any qualms against the fact that he'd be a dad. However, maybe that was where he and Faolan differed. "Free of kids, I should have said." He retorted dryly, lightly whacking the other upside the head in a carefree manner. It was hardly a brush of the hand, but enough to be more then a ghost. "Promises and keeping them are two completely different things." He chided jokingly, leaning against the door frame. "Just dont get carried away." He said with a vague, smart a** grin. Looking up as the woman was mentioned, he cocked a brow. "Gretel? Right scary woman you've got there..." Trystan made a hand gesture over his chest, showing just how big hers was. "I'm starting to think fun is a matter of perspective." Trystan said dryly. "She thought I was an eighteen year old. A horny eighteen year old." Of course, Trystan knew the woman hadn't said what age she'd thought out loud, but by the way she had been sizing him up, he could only imagine. "Bigger?" Trystan glanced around. "Hell, it looks the same though. Just as messy." Trystan cocked a bit of a grin and glanced back at the man. "Is this the part where I'm supposed to say congragulations again for getting married and becoming a dad?"

Crux cocked his head to the side, scanner playing glimmering red light over Zia.
"Not yet. I am still getting used to the cards... I hope to though, once I am more familiar with such an interesting thing." Crux nodded, and it almost seemed as if a smile was shown through his words. It was good to see Zia again, and even better to see that he was doing well.

Faolan smirked and nodded. "Aye, now'd be the time, yeah. And I have no doubts on keeping promises to Elle. I really do love her, Tryst." He glanced at the two Essentics, then back at Tryst. "Let's go over to the south field and talk for a bit. I've got some questions to ask and I don't want Elle comin' back and hearin' it. We'll get some beers on the way. The kids can come along, too."

Zia looked up at the two men. "Are we going for a walk?" At Fao's nod, it looked at Crux and grinned. "You'll like this. No one in Farstep ever looks at us or thinks we're strange. We won't have to hide." It hugged Crux again, making a small happy noise.

Trystan snickered a bit once again at the mans declaration of love and looked to the side, wondering just how he could think about it as such a lighthearted thing. "Then good, I wont have to worry about you doing something incredibly stupid any time soon." He said teasingly, turning towards the other. "How many times are you going to announce that to me? I already know. I dont think its more obvious then the back of your head." Trystan grinned a bit and shrugged when the other mentioned the south field. Sounded like fun. Though questions.... "Regarding your family?" He offered, eyes hardening slightly before resolving to an almost soft exterior. "Lets go. Beer sounds good, you'll need it, and I will too." he whistled and stepped down and out of the open Vardo, patiently waiting for Faolan to come along and lead.

This would be interesting.

"A walk...?"
Crux repeated, instantly hovering on the edge of uncertainty. A walk, crowds, stares. Humans. It did not fit correctly in his mind. But Zia was saying that it would be alright.... A soft nod came from him. "If you... say so, then perhaps I'll agree." Turning to the other, it thrummed in content. "Hiding.... its nice not to have to do it. Shall we go then? I'm sure those two are eager." With that, Crux gestured over to Faolan and Trystan, who was already out the door.

Faolan just smacked Trystan in the arm as he stepped down outside, too. "Can't help sayin' it, Tryst. Something so true doesn't hurt to be repeated, eh?" He nodded as he started walking, leading the other halfbreed and the two Essentics to the southern field. "Yeah, I wanna talk about my family. With a child on the way, I need to know some stuff that I never thought much about before." He paused at a vendor and got two cases of beer, handing one to Trystan to carry, before continuing to the field.

Zia walked alongside Crux and it was clear that, though people noticed the strange child in costume and its be-costumed dog, they didn't give them a second glance. "That's what I love best about living here. No one thinks I'm odd." It laid a hand on Crux's back as they followed their owners.
PostPosted: Thu May 28, 2009 12:38 am

Smacked, Trystan growled a bit in a friendly manner, sidling beside the man as he was led along. "Yeah, you're just like a lovestruck fool. I guess thats a good thing though." He announced in a tauntingly teasing manner, shrugging his shoulders a bit as he turned his head towards Faolan. "What about your family? Dont you think they might be better left in the past?" He asked, a flash of slight.... concern!? wavering in his eyes before folding into nothing. "What exactly is it you need to know?" He asked, hoisting the case of beer onto his shoulder and following the other man away.

Padding alongside the other with a soft thrum, Crux glanced at Zia for a moment, scanner shimmering faintly.
"It is nice, not being looked like something... revolting." He said, the word having come from an encounter with a man he had been ordered to kill. The Proto had stared him down without thought, but now, it wore on him in the slightest. "Odd?" Crux tilted his head a bit. "Everyone is odd... it is just a matter of who cares, and who does not."

Faolan led Trystan over to a tree near the borderline of the main grounds and the field, then sat down, his case of beer before him. "It probably is better left in the past, but I'm gonna be a father and I'd like to know more about what I'm passing on to my child." He opened one of the bottles and took a long drink, then looked at Trystan. "You said my father's not someone to mess with, but what about my mother? What's she like?"

"I don't think you're revolting. I think you're quite nice," Zia said quietly. Once they reached the fields, it led Crux a bit away to give some privacy to their owners, but staying within sight. The alter flopped down on the ground, a few cards and feathers drifting to the ground and looked at Crux. "You can see the stars really well from out here." It pointed up to the sky.
PostPosted: Thu May 28, 2009 1:32 am

Trystan sat down, taking out a beer almost instantly and clicking it open with a satisfied thrum. The conversation would take a turn for the worse quickly if he believed it was heading where it was, and he wasn't exactly keen on being the one to deal with it all without at least some alcohol in his system. Placing the cool metal to his mouth, he took a long sip and listened to the other, wondering half heartedly if he had any smokes in his jean pockets. "Your mother?" He repeated after the other, and sighed, watching as the sun set over the grassy hills. The dying light cast shadows against Faolan and Trystan, and the man closed his eyes a bit as he took another drink. "I dont know what she's like." He said loftily, not glancing at Faolan. "I just know that she's dead."

Crux thrummed a bit at Ziazans comment, looking at the other for a moment. If he'd had a face, his eyes probably would have shot a look of skepticism.
"Quite nice?" He repeated, and glanced ahead. "You have... a strange way of thinking, Ziazan." There was a bit of something that sounded almost like a laugh coming from the Proto. "I believe I like that, though..." Turning his head upwards the sky when Ziazan explained the scenery to him, carefully placing himself on the ground as well. "Stars..." He repeated in a far off tone. He liked stars. He'd researched galaxies before.... But Drente did not usually allow for the sky to show itself. To see it in reality was like a dream. "I've never seen them before." He said loftily, tilting his head back further.

Faolan tensed at the man's words, then slowly relaxed and let out a soft sigh. "Somehow . . . I think I always knew that." He looked at Trystan, sadness in his eyes, but also acceptance of the news. There would be no tears for his mother. He'd never known her to cry for her. "Don't suppose you know how long it's been or what she died of, eh?"

Ziazan looked up at the sky as well. "Not often, but sometimes they can be seen here." It leaned over, resting its head against Crux's shoulder. This was nice and Zia wasn't sure why exactly, but it knew it liked the combat Essentic's company. Tilting its head slightly, Zia looked up at Crux, watching him.
