The year is 218 a.f.c. -- After First Contact. For years humans of Earth have been trying to reach out to the stars and, in the not-so distant future, something out there reached back. Extraterestrials, beings from beyond our galaxy, responded. Many of these beings were benign, some of them were even friendly, but one of those races proved to be the most dangerous enemy earth had faced. We called them the Jeth.
In the first year of the war, two thirds of the population of earth had been wiped out. In the second year a group calling themselves Regenisis emerged. A handful of survivors from a top-secret government facility demonstrated super-human abilities that proved to be instrumental in turning the war. The alien technology of the Jeth that had seemed indestructible next to Earth's primitive technologies proved to be especially vulnerable to the psychic abilities of the Regenisis.
The turn of the war picked up in momentum until humans, allied under a united front, began pushing back. Eventually the war was won, and Regenisis emerged as a governing body for the survivors of Earth.
It's been two centuries, Regenisis has become a dictatorship and Earth has become isolated. Exploration of space has been abandoned in exchange for focusing scientific prowess towards unlocking the secrets of the mutant genes. Two-hundred years later Society has evolved....

Vast emerald pools stared out of the window she sat in, one foot propper up in the window seat while another dangled loosely towards the polished wooden floor. The immense city proper was visible from her lonely seat in the parlour she occupied, the city where she moved through the shadows, the city whose blood stained her hands. It was she and she alone that convienently removed any human obstacles from the path of success for her cowardly owner. Reacting to the hormonal change of her emotional her beautiful rainbow colored streaks through her hair became a dark burgundy. A dangerous look to match her pupil-less emerald eyes. After her last "job" her return home last night was made worse by her master needinghis more carnal needs attended too.
Kaliwen had never felt so empty before in her life. Her soul felt...just empty. Which was a feat for her considering her mutation was that of a human battery, to draw in and manipulate the excess energy that surrounded her. She couldn't create it, just use it. The soft subtle clipping of highly polished boots broke her reverie as the owner of those boots entered her little sanctuary. As much as the mutant hated it, the rush of residual malicious energy that surround the person immediately invigorated her body and returned color to her palid cheeks."Haven't you even bathed since last night?" came the masculine sneer from behind her.
Biting her tongue she refused to be baited by her owner. Lord Gabriel Ashford Dalton; politician, humanitarian, Regeneris shareholder, and one of the most eligible bachelors in the human world, and owner of extraordinary commodities. Namely her, Kaliwen. His own personal assasin for those who stood in his way and his whore when he was in the mood. His comments were focused on the fact that rather then bathe once she returned from his rooms last night after servicing him, she had merely sat and stared out her window, so his fluids still covered parts of her body."Had I known you liked my essence all over you so much, Kali I'd have had you more often," his greasy voice trying to seduce the young mutant and digusting her all in one moment in time.
She stood abruptly in all her naked glory, still facing away from him, "I take it you need me to still accompany you to Triton?"
One could practically feel the smirk of triumph coming from Gabriel but he let the disrespect pass from his pet, as he so affectionally called her, "Yes, you will be accompanying me. So get bathed and presentable. We leave immediately."Without bothering to look at the man she hated above all others, Kali stormed off to her opulent bathroom to scourge herself of that man's presence in all forms. Most days like this all she wanted to do was allow the hot burning tears flow down her cheeks, but she found out early it did no good and only depleted her energy stores. So tears hadn't been an option for a very long time. As the petite woman wasn't one for dawdling, it didn't take her long to bathe, dry, and dress in one of her many sheaths that her owner insisted she wear. This one albeit tight and uncomfortable was nonetheless a glamourous deep plum that made her emerald eyes stand out againsther fair skin.
But that was as "presentable" as she ever got, she refused to spend anymore time then necessary for her owner or any of his lackeys as she so politely called the men who ran in his social circles. She made no comments to Gabriel as he helped her into his limosene and she situated herself as far from his grasp as possible once again allowing herself to stare out of the window into the city.
Stopping at a traffic light, as they passed a more medium class of town, Kali sat up and took noticed as she locked onto a pair of eyes staring out their own window. Two bright, glowing almost electrified eyes boring holes into her own. The pull of residual energy just in this one spot was almost salivating to her own powers, but her stare never wavered, not even when those eyes turned and seemed to lock into her through the darkneed windows. The small jerk of the car to indicate its movement was the only thing that made her look suddenly to see what street she was leaving. Sanctum Road. But when she turned back a split second later before they had left the intersection, the eyes had left. Swallowing hard she tried to locate them again as they pulled farther and farther away until the building was too far away even to be seen.
It took far too many hours to get to Triton from the mainland in her opinion. It was not a roundtrip to be made in a day, more over a few days. Which of course meant a mutant chamber for her to sleep in, while her owner wined and dined with the best of Regeneris. Closing her eyes, Kali tried to remember every detail of her encounter with the "Eyes" as she could while in the helicopter to Triton. Boats were not allowed near Triton due to the nature of the water-based facility. Landing softly on the helio-pad, Kali quickly stepped out first to secure the landing pad for her owner as was her job during these trips. One lone individual stood at the edge of the pad. If she thought Eyes had energy waves, they had nothing on the young girl in front of her. The mere heat energy could've kept Kali charged for at least 4 days just on the leftovers. It was quite intriguing.
"Site is secure Lord Dalton," her belle like voice chimed to her owner, as he took his place behind her in relative safety. Relative of course meaning, he knew she couldn't retaliate against him due to her neural collar and therefore knew she would protect him as long as he had her remote.
A short walk brought the pair to the "Energy Woman" as Kali named her in her mind, "Lord Dalton is here to inspect his shares."

Her short and unstyled hair was disturbed unrelentingly by the whirlwind of the helicopter's landing, but she failed to react to it. Truthfully, Núria was indifferent to the stings on her cheeks and her eyes from contact with her rough fringe.
As the group approached the lone sentinel to the Triton Facility Núria straightened to attention. In one sweep she took notice of the lone bodyguard, unmistakably a mutant. The fellow mutant's mutual interest in Núria herself and less that of the matter at hand was noted. Her indifference was marked for later for whatever it would prove to be a result of, and Núria addressed the Lord Dalton as she escorted them into the roof access of the facility.
"As you know, the Triton's visible buildings are for the ushering and housing of guests and residing Regenesis agents only. If you'll follow me I'll be escorting you deeper into the facility than your previous visits Lord Dalton, that is where the director of the facility is waiting for you to begin the real negotiations."
The roof access the young woman led them to led to the inside of a wide elevator, the steel beams supporting thick glass windows that, during their entrance, displayed nothing but the deep red brick of the surrounding building. Once the trio was settled within, Dalton situated slightly behind the two women, Núria continued.
"Once we reach the facilities main areas you will only be able to enter the meeting room with the director alone. The matters you will be discussing are most sensitive, and as such the facility appreciates your compliance in this matter. Once the negotiations are over the tour may recommence."
At this Núria fell silent, uncomfortable with the long introductory speaches that this posting had brought her. Not that many visitors made their way out to the Triton facility, but the other escort services that she had been contracted into had been no different that this other than the view it provided.
As the elevator fell it reached incredible speeds, although the pressure within in the chamber protected those within from falling victim to any physical consequences. The darkness of the brick building was soon replaced by the startling clear waters of the surrounding ocean, its depths reaching on beyond even superhuman sights. The outsides of the elevator's conduit sported the occasional growths and collections of star fish and other sea creatures nesting on its surface, but the main interest was in the facility itself. Nested on the sea bed miles away from the facility's exterior buildings atop its tropical island.
At first the facility could only be seen as lights along the ocean floor, lighting up the schools of shimmering schools of fish and nearby sea-flora. Once within the glow of the facility the elevator's occupants could see that the facility was a network of round, pressurized chambers, connecting into a myriad of almost fay-like constructs. The material that made up the outer walls of the facility were opaque, clouding the business of each individual chamber, but in Núria's experience that was always for the best. In many of the Regenesis projects it was better to not know what was happening beyond the scenes, and it was even better not to ask.
The elevator slowed finally, affixing itself to the side of the largest of the chambers under the barrage of hisses and groans as the chamber was secured and pressure administered appropriately to ensure safe transition from the pod to the facility.
"With me please, Mr. Dalton." Núria said as she stepped forward through the opening and activated the hatch to expose a most grandeur welcoming chamber featuring surface grown decorative plants, comfortable looking furniture, and a richly embroidered rug that encompassed the entire floor. The walls were opaque only on the other sides of the chamber's walls however, as the large round room supplied a breath taking view of the surrounding ocean.
Núria stood to the side and was joined by a tall, regal looking man dressed sharply in the dress one would not expect of a science director. Silver hair waved back from the brow and swept down to meet a neatly kept beard. Piercing grey eyes looked down an eagle inspired nose at the Lord as the director took in the sight of the Lord and his 'pet'.
"Thank you Núria. Please wait here with Lord Dalton's.. companion while we take this matter to the next room."
"Yes Mr. Snow." Núria replied, taking position near the doorway, rigid stance and far away gaze as she withdrew to wait.

Daring not to roll her eyes at the constant, innate no-doubt pre-ordained speech given by their guide and added protection, Kaliwen simply stayed alert, tuned out the other mutant lecture and did her job, albeit a boring one. She could honestly only think of two differents time, she and her...owner had visited a facility where she'd had to actively protect him from another mutant. Both time were relatively painless as she'd just absorbed the energy around the attacks and/or mutant. Kali was more then positive that while there was a slim chance she'd be needed here, once again her presence was meant to make an impression for Lord Dalton.
Leaning back against unbrekable glass that showed off the beuaty of the underwater world, Kali pinned her pupil-less gaze on the only other company she had in the room. "Energy Woman" or Núria as the Director of Triton had called her, after sneering at Kali's mere presence.
Time seemed to slow down, pass incredibly slow as she just stared at the woman...girl, who seemingly had withdrawn to wait, like a android that had internally turned itself off to re-charge.
"I'm Kali," the silence shattered with that simple statement, "Are you always this abominiably silent with company?"

Waiting came naturally to Núria, a side effect of living fourteen of her years life in isolation surely. Also a byproduct of those years was the ability to instantly withdraw into her own mind to pass that time waiting, a place to reflect and think.. much more than her superiors ever thought her capable of.
Of course is was never difficult to separate herself from that place when called to, and so when the woman (who had in that same moment designated herself with the name Kali) spoke, Núria was at once alert. Her eyes lowered as she listened and mulled over the words silently, apearing dumb in those moment, until she finally spoke quietly in response.
"Yes."
It was all she could think of to say. Naturally the question must be followed by an answer, and the young woman could think of no reason to not supply an honest one. After reflecting on her answer a moment she realized that in the same circumstance she would expect another to reply in a more explanatory response, or even a manner of equal wit, but by the time that she had come to the conclusion that more should be said Núria found herself at a loss of what more exactly to add, and the struggle with the loss of words began a sense of frustration within her. Before the feeling could grow into an actual physical expression however, Núria met the woman's bright green eyes and her attention was diverted neatly to the device at her neck.
As ornamental as it was it had a reading about it that no mere trinket would ever lay claim to. Núria's eyes rested on it for a moment before rising back up to the woman's pupiless eyes.
"What is that on your neck?" She asked, ever abrupt in her mannerisms.

If it were possible for her body to tense anymore then it already was, the young mutant would've been stiff as a board from that simple and innocent question. The anger enduced hormones flooded into her hair follicales causing her hair to blend into an angry orange. But she kept her voice steady and her face an expressionless stone, "It's a collar."
Blunt and matter-of-fact. It's what it was. No less, and much more, "It keeps me from running away or disobeying my owner or doing anything he's not particularly fond of at any random moment on a whim. Most importantly, it keeps me under his thumb to do what he wants or needs me to do."
Folding her arms across her chest, Kali tried to get across a calmer emotion. It worked enough to have her hair faded to a tranquil periwinkle white. Cautious to make sure no one of consequence was watching, she settled herself into the chairs that were for guests. It wasn't often she got to converse with another mutant, especially one of such energy. Oddly she didn't look that old.

"A collar." The girl repeated, her voice a bland flavor compared to the relatively emotional one of Kali.
Núria was once again at a loss for words, but this time was indifferent to any expectations for her to continue with the conversation. Question answered, dialogue complete. Or so she would have thought if her mind wasn't instead wrapping itself around the effects of the collar. When Kali described Lord Dalton's intentions for the device most of it meant to Núria not much more than her own job had on occasion entailed, security, escort and protection.
The shift in hair color from the woman did not escape Núria's notice, although it did escape her interest. She couldn't pull her eyes from the collar as she continued to wonder over it. Finally she found herself wondering if it would stand up to her touch, a touch that had up to that point never failed to instantly incinerate anything that made contact with her body.
Finally she remembered someone along the way mentioning to her that staring was considered rude and in some social situations could initiate confrontation. As it was not within her assignment details to confront anyone as of yet Núria looked away, to the side, and then down to the floor.

Had she been on a better mood, Kali probably would've laughed at the other mutant obvious inability to handle social situations. But considering her jobs the night before, Kali was in anything but a better mood. Pursing her lips she conintued her gaze of the girl trying to figure her out, but it was like gazing at a stone statue and trying to figure out what it was thinking.
"So what's your mutation?" she asked just as blunty as Nuria had of her just moments ago. She had a feeling if Nuria saw someone else being just as blunt in their manners it might relax the girl a bit from feeling awkward.

Question. Would it be too dangerous to show the woman rather than tell her? The facility had them both under careful study while they waited, two mutants with no hint of an escort, Núria was certain they were simply waiting for something to break out. Insurance policies.
"Pyrokenetics. I've been programmed with some shadow based powers, but only as a means to control my original mutation."
Answer.
The young mutant moved, not at all stiff for having stood in one place even during the discussion, and stood next to one of the tall standing plants that adorned the round chamber. It was rich and vibrant, thriving in the well-kept surroundings and the careful care of the facilities' workers. It was lush, thick, full of life. And then Núria raised her hand to it, barely brushing the closest of leafy fronds and setting off a fire of consumption.
Hairline fire-colored fissured bled out from the contact, spreading across the broad leaves and entering the main stem in seconds, the fire replaced the veins that carried nutrients throughout the plant, green becoming black and then falling apart altogether. In all it took less than half a minute for the entire plant to fall to the floor, ashes spilling over its wide pot and the surrounding floor.

"I got the idea," Kali replied sardonically quirking a pure white eyebrow at the younger mutant, "didn't need the visual."
Sighing she stood up and moved by the girl, before kneeling and running her hands through the ash that used to be such a beautiful plant. Now the soft, chasmere ash simply rubbed softly between her fingertips and disintegrated even more. Standing up she brushed her pale hands together ridding herself of the residue.
"Such a disregard of life," she murmured softly, her own memories of using her mutation to take a life just the previous night coming forefront to her mind. Of course the next thought was wondering if she could rid Kali of her collar that easily; until she remember how it was twisted into her brain to control her. So ridding herself of it like that would kill her.

Kali's displeasure made Núria uncomfortable. She was wrong when she had believed that this mission would be just like any other escort and stand-by mission. As the situation slowly grew more uncomfortable so the grinding of her own teeth increased until she started to feel a soreness developing.
"I'm sorry." It was really all she could think of to say.
Finally she was disconcerted enough by the proximity of the woman to move to the side, shuffling slightly as she did so, and putting at least an arm's length between them. It wasn't the woman that bothered her, and her apologetic glance was enough to say so, but the nearness was too much. It wasn't even a fear of her own power really, the nearness was just so.. so alien.
More uncomfortable silence.
