I'm getting married in the next year or so. (there is no date set) This leaves a girl thinking of all sorts of wedding plans. I've changed my mind about what I want at least 10,000 times about what I want.

WHAT ABOUT A STEAMPUNK WEDDING?

Some one link Damsel in this Dress and now it's all I can think of.

Suggestions? Links to cool stuff? Any people who are married in the guild, Gaia weddings don't count, sorry, it's not personal, it just means you don't have real advice about florists and wedding favors.

I don't have any advice (never been married, don't think I ever will), but congratulations all the same! (^_Q)

Never say never. I thought the same thing and then I got swept away.

My someone on Gaia, embarrassingly enough. We've been living together for the past year. He's like...a rowdy skin head though. All boots and working man pride and what have you...

I wonder if I could talk him into it.

Have two weddings? One a steampunk-theme for you and the other a whatever-he's-interested-in for him? biggrin
Or have the steampunk wedding and have a big party/reception with his interest as a theme afterwards.

Well, most times he doesn't care, as long as I'm happy with it. However, he's been vehemently against Disney Princess and Hello kitty. It's a bummer.

Most especially when it could be a period Hello Kitty wedding.

If that isn't flash then I don't know what is.

Ohh I want one... in purple! whee biggrin
But yes... Disney Princess and Hello Kitty aren't "manly" men things so I can certainly see why he's opposed to them.
You could get a group of your girl friends together and do a bachelorette party with either of those themes. 3nodding

I'm not the manliest of men, but still something about the thought of a Disney/Hello Kitty themed bachelorette party strikes me as... unsettling. Only if it's one of the crazier varieties of bachelorette parties, though. xp

Erm, I have no actual advice about steampunk weddings. I personally don't give a hoot what a wedding looks like as long as it isn't emasculating for the groom or humiliating for the bride, and steampunk is neither of those.

Hi! well I didn't have a steampunk wedding but I had a victorian/lolita theme. We had a private civil ceremony and then a small party. It was really nice. I couldn't imagine having a regular white wedding dress whee it's just not my thing. Steampunk would have been another choice of mine but I just couldn't pass up this dress. I have pictures here if you want to see them. wedding pics

I think if your guy is really into manly/rough stuff then steampunk is the way to go! It can be so tough and so elegant at the same time! It's perfect. good luck!

Always a bridesmaid here... I've got 3 gowns. Depends on your tastes of steampunk. An ivory gown with gold accents is classically beautiful. If you're a fan of Girl Genius the "Cinderella" side story gown is gorgeous (in my opinion)

Congrats on getting married. Sorry, I don't have much to add except I want to see your dress.

(If someone gave me a Disney princess bridal shower, I'd probably shoot them)

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but perhaps this can be an idea for the catering

What you can do with is request modifications in colour (some brass or copper fabric). And this can give the alter theme a little "oomph" if you want:

I think a Steampunk Wedding would be AWESOME. I want one!
(Mind you, I should probably get a fiance first, preferably one that is also into Steam... and since I am not even dating, yeah, maybe I better hold off on wedding plans. But Still!

Look at this Minister Dude's Monogoggle! http://offbeatbride.com/2007/12/a-steampunk-wedding#referrer

This cake is adorable http://offbeatbride.com/2008/09/steampunk-wedding#referrer and so is her dress. The pictures are great. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiefrancescowedding/ (I do some freelance photography, including weddings, so I like looking through albums.)

I GOOGLED AND FOUND THAT TOO IT WAS BOOOTYFUL!!!

Xeigrich- The hello kitty/ disney princess was supposed to be a joke. I never ask him about it being serious, just to rib him a little. I'm just like that.

mutantmint-that's cute...lolita just...isn't my thing. It creeps me out. It's like pretend ***** imo. idk why I feel that way. It's a really cute dress, I just have a hard time understanding why a person would want to look like a 4 year old. I mean if you can explain I would love to hear it.

I don't want it to be so steampunk that it puts off people and they are confused by it, but enough that it's fun and nice and not too "theme wedding."

I'm a fan of being a dork too, but I think themed weddings are tacky...

Thats just my opinion though.

Best of Luck to you though!

First off, congradulations on getting married. I don't pretend to be any kind of expert but it seems to me that the easiest way to arrange a steampunk wedding would be to find stuff or go to an arranger that does historically based weddings, and then add in gears, timepieces, bronze, etc. to make it steampunk. I am a girl, but even I cringe at the thought of a Hello Kitty wedding, no offense. I can see why a guy might have a problem with ethier of the other suggested themes. Unless he just doesn't like themes altogether, he should be o.k. with steampunk. Especially because the grooms outfit probably won't end up looking that much different than in a traditional wedding. Good luck.
P.S.: Have you decided on a date for the wedding yet, will we get to see pics?
