Her.
Shani had spoken, taken her pick of just who Enzi would befriend. She'd won their bet so he had no choice, he could only avoid it for so long. Shani was stubborn, at least about this. They were all grown up now, there was only so much she could do for them now and Enzi was aware of it. He would do it because Shani was right and it would make her happy.
So he had reasoned before Shani finally made her choice of just who Enzi was going to befriend. Now he was edging forward, his mother left far behind him, working up the courage to say something. Anything.

Kafara was the target of the blue lion, though she had no idea of it. She was out taking a walk- and a break from her family. She had a lot of family and sometimes it was hard to keep up with. She spent quite a bit of time trying to help Angavu, she had fun with her cubs- there were fewer of them than Shiri had and they didn't have a daddy to help so Kafara had felt more useful and involved. And Anga seemed to accept her help well enough.
Humming quietly to herself, she decided to pick out a nice place and just relax. She was aware that she was not alone, but that didn't bother her. She had no idea anybody intend to talk to her. She walked lazily, keeping an eye out for a good spot to relax.

She slowed down, that was lucky- he could catch up. There was no reason to be anxious, this wasn't malicious, he was only trying to make a friend. Of course, his mother was the one trying to get him to make a friend and he was sure she was still around somewhere watching..
That in mind, he paused a moment to turn and glare off in the direction he had left Shani. But there wasn't much else to do but get this over with. What he would say other than hello was to be seen, but for now.. it was a start.
"Hello," he called out, smiling sheepishly and fighting the urge to run away and he hesitated without giving an introduction. Was this a natural way to start a conversation?

Kafara was startled when she realized she was being approached. He wasn't as large as your average Pridelander but he was a very pretty blue color. He also looked rather anxious, which made Kafara anxious. Why was he approaching her like that?
"Hello," she responded quietly, tilting her head and taking a moment to let him respond but not getting an immediate answer, "I'm Kafara, w-who are you?" She offered an introduction shyly, still wondering but willing to go along and chat nicely. Most lions were nice here, she could be too.

Awkward.
Awkward awkward awkward ..
"'M Enzi," he muttered, but quickly realized he was speaking too quickly and there wasn't much hope of making a good impression that way, "My name is Enzi." He coughed and pawed at the ground, trying to think of something to say to stop the awkwardness.
"I was wondering," he started, pausing more than necessary and worrying about what he said the entire time, "I was just, I was just going for a walk to the waterhole, would you like to come with me?" Awkward, strange and rather quiet, Enzi fully expected to be told that she was busy, whether or not it was actually true. But then Shani couldn't say he didn't try.

It took her a moment to figure out why he was being so anxious, but once he invited her for a walk- in a very nervous, jumpy way- she could make a guess. She could be suspicious but the waterhole was a busy place, it wasn't like he was trying to lure her away from where anybody else was. She could be a worrier but she could also be reasonable.
"OK," Kafara responded, adding a little white lie, "I was going there anyway." She hoped he didn't notice she hadn't been moving too quickly in any particular direction when he approached her.

Enzi was ready for rejection, he almost flinched when Kafara spoke up- then he felt an excited flutter in his stomach. She agreed to go with him, that was a good thing. His anxiety was eased for a moment, breathing a sigh of relief, until he realized this meant there was even more opportunity to mess up and look weird. Still, he managed a sheepish smile and a nod.
"OK, great," he said, swallowing his nerves but unable to find his voice to try to make small talk. He took a couple awkward steps ahead to start them on their way.

He was rather funny, she noticed. Kafara followed after his awkward steps, going along with it and wondering if he was going to say anything. She wasn't too good at small talk, or any talk, really- she was surprised she had gotten this far, but then maybe Anga and the girls were rubbing off on her a bit. So she took a deep breath and took a chance.
"I haven't really seen you around before," she commented, hoping to get him talking about himself. He approached her, he should speak first, "Tell me about yourself."

He was a bit flustered when she initiated small-talk, especially since it was about him. He cursed himself for not being able to say anything, but he would have to loosen up and just be brave. He didn't have to be good at anything to answer questions about himself, it was the topic he knew the most about. Better than anybody, even.
"Umm, I have five sisters, I'm the only boy," he started, deciding to start with the least complicated part of his family and realizing too late that even it wasn't as simple as it seems, "Except, well, if you count my older brothers and sisters, I have two brothers and seven sisters. But my- my sister raised all of us so it's complicated."
Enzi's ears turned back and he glanced over at Kafara, worried he might have said too much, made him and his family look so odd. The problem was that it was the truth.
"I don't know," he stammered, "What do you want to know?"

So! He did have a voice. Kafara felt quite proud of herself for getting him to speak, especially when it was a rather revealing bit of information. It was kind of hard to imagine he was not being sincere, saying something like that. She sighed thoughtfully, feeling unexpectedly at ease.
"I have one brother and one sister," she returned an insight into her own life rather than acknowledging his stammering, "My brother, Kutunza, is my age but my sister Shiri is quite a bit older than us. She's already a grandmother herself. Which.. makes my parents great grandparents." It didn't necessarily say a lot about her family, it was easy to become a young grandparent and great grandparent.. but that wasn't the case in her family. She glanced over at him curiously, wanting to ask why his sister was raising him- and presumably his sisters- but deciding that probably wasn't a very good question to ask someone you just met.

At first, Enzi was surprised to hear that Kafara was from a small family. Only two siblings, that wasn't very many! But then she said her sister was a grandmother, which meant she had to have at least one cub that had .. at least one cub. That made the family seem a bit larger, but he couldn't be sure. Kafara was making it easy to chat with her and Enzi loved his family so much, it wasn't much of a problem to keep going.
"I have a niece and nephew that are both older than me," he said, thinking perhaps that was the case if Kafara was also an aunt, "But that's about as big as my family is, except I guess I have a bunch of cousins around here but we don't really know them well." He shrugged, wondering if he should even have bothered mentioning them but going on anyway.
"S-so, your sister, is she much older than you?" he asked, curious about the age differences. He already made the age difference between him and his sister fairly clear, he mentioned that she had raised him and his sisters. That also implied that none of his siblings could be younger than him, since his mother was absent from the list.

Kafara smiled at the mention of having a niece and nephew that were older than him, wondering if he was trying to point out similarities in their family. Though it wouldn't be impossible for a niece or nephew of hers to be a bit younger and have cubs.
"All of my nieces and nephews are older than me, though some of them aren't very much older," she agreed, "I think it's, uh, eleven I have in all. My oldest niece is the one with cubs, four girls." Her tone changed a bit when she mentioned Angavu and her four daughters, she was very especially fond of them.
"Shiri is quite a bit older than Kutunza and me," she said thoughtfully, not sure about an exact age difference, "I couldn't say exactly." Her family situation was a bit unusual, her parents had two litters so far apart and yet they weren't really together.. she'd just as soon not say anything about that.

Eleven nieces and nephews sounded like a lot. He really only had the two, and four of his sisters were also nieces.. but that was too complicated to worry about. They were his sisters. He noticed the change in her voice at the mention of her oldest niece and four great nieces. He didn't comment but took it as a sign that she had a rather happy family. He was feeling fairly calm and confident for once when he realized he'd led the conversation into a dead end and now it's his turn to think of what else to talk about.
"Are you close to your brother and sister?" he asked curiously, trying to take the same topic in another direction, "And, and you're niece?" He wanted to seem perceptive, he only hoped he wasn't completely misreading her.

She didn't mind the break in the conversation, she enjoyed a bit of silence and went through her thoughts. If this was what most of the lions were like around here, it wasn't so bad. She almost felt bad she had focused so much more on just her parents and extended family. Maybe she was missing something after all.
"I try to help Anga as much as I can, so I'm pretty close to them. Her cubs don't have a father around so Kutunza and I wanted to help her," she said brightly, not hesitating to mention that Angavu was a single parent. If Angavu was shy about it, Kafara wouldn't mention it so easily but the older lioness didn't seem bothered at all, "Kutunza is my best friend, though." She wasn't sure how it sounded, her brother as her best friend, but it was the truth.

"Anya is my best friend," Enzi said without thinking, then stammered in an effort to explain, "I mean, she's my only full sister, I guess we've always just been close." His family was complicated, full blood relationship didn't matter but it was the truth about him and Anya. They shared something the others didn't, but so did the other four girls. He was getting confused trying to explain his close relationship with Anya, it just was how things were.
"Not that that matters so much, I love all my sisters," he mumbled, trying to recover a bit now that he's rethought how he's said it, "I just, I don't have any other friends." Just his sisters, his family.
